During the 20 years I lived in Poulsbo, I had only one serious concern involving a medical provider. Otherwise, I found the staff to be knowledgeable, prepared, and professional. At my first appointment of the year, I arrived on time but was told by the receptionist that I was early. I explained that I had been instructed to drink contrast before my CT scan. Rather than checking on the issue or helping, she told me to sit down. I asked her to speak with a manager. She left briefly, returned, and again told me to sit down and wait. As a result, I waited nearly 45 minutes, was able to drink only a small amount of the contrast and then had to receive the rest by injection. On another visit, a staff member came from the back and called my first name. I could not see who had called me, but I quickly turned around to pick up my bag. He then called my second last name twice. When I raised my concern, he did not appear to take seriously the privacy issue this created. I understand that the waiting room layout may make it difficult for staff to see every patient clearly. However, I later saw another staff member go farther into the waiting room before calling a patient's name, which seemed like a more appropriate approach. On a separate occasion, I received a bill the day before my appointment, so I wrote a check and expected to pay it at the reception desk. I handed the receptionist the bill stub and a check for more than the amount due because I expected the current visit to create additional charges, since I had not yet met my deductible for the year. She asked for my name and date of birth, then stated, "You owe X," without any greeting or explanation. I explained that I was prepared to pay the bill I had received, but I would not pay charges for statements I had not yet been sent. She said I had to pay for what appeared on the computer. I repeated that I would pay any additional amounts after receiving the appropriate statements. I gave her the bill stub and check, but she handed the check back. When I asked why, ends up that she had never seen a check before. After someone helped her process it, she charged a few cents too much and could not correct the error. Because the manager was in a meeting, another staff member eventually came and gave me the change from the overpayment. I also explained that the same receptionist had been involved in my earlier concerns and appeared to need additional training. The staff member agreed that more training was needed. Because of these repeated issues at the reception desk, I have chosen to go to imaging locations farther away, any time I could, including Tacoma, Seattle, and Edmonds, rather than deal with reception at the Poulsbo location. The staff who perform the tests seem knowledgeable and capable; my concerns are primarily with reception, the wasting my time, me having to get needles instead of drinking medicine before a procedure, HIPPA violation and billing-related communication. When I received the first bill, I called Billing, which is in another time zone, twice. During the first call, we discussed my bill because this was the first time I was paying my yearly deductible. This was on or about the 15th of the month. The billing representative told me what the bills would be the following month on the 15th. I explained that I would pay the deductible and that my insurance would pay the remaining amount after receiving the bills from Rayus. My second call to Billing was necessary because the check I gave the receptionist had not been credited to my account, and I received a 30-day notice stating that my bill had not been paid. I asked the billing representative to look elsewhere for my payment. She eventually found it and said it would be credited the following month. The next month, I received a 40-day overdue bill for the amount I had already paid. Although the front of the bill stated that the balance from my insurance company had been received but was pending in the system, the total amount requested included both the check I had submitted and the amount my insurance was expected to pay. I am sending this letter to the doctor in charge of the Rayus Poulsbo location so that he is aware of what has been happening. I am concerned that I may not be the only patient experiencing these problems, and I hope these issues can be addressed through improved staff training, clearer billing procedures, and better communication with patients. I have not called Billing since getting their 40 days overdue statement. Nor will I call them again.

I was early to my appointment so I was called within 30 minutes. I met with technician, Monica. She brought me into her office to ask for some basic questions. She then took me into a single private room. Explained that I should use the wipes in the packet to wipe off my deodorant (forgot I wasn't supposed to use), I can leave pants on, take shirt and bra off and use the medical gown. I entered the mammogram room. Technician, Monica explained that it would not hurt but that there would be an applied pressure. She pressed on my chest to show me as an example. She guided me through each step and advised me to hold my breath at every change of position. This part of the procedure took less than 15minutes. The wait time in the lobby was longer. I went back to the single private room to dress. There are two chairs right outside of the mammogram room and the private room should you have any family members accompany you. Lastly, technician Monica advised that I would receive my results within 7-10 days. I opted to receive my results via email. The email would be sent from stmichaelimaging@vmfh.org and what my passcode would be. Technician, Monica made all the difference in my great experience in having my first mammogram. It was not as bad as I thought it would be based on hearing other women's bad experiences. It's just a slight pressure ladies. Thank you Monica!!! =))

I mean truly. With a family history and an estimated 52% chance of getting breast cancer, I have been doing annual mammograms since 1995. In those years, I've had dozens of breast ultrasounds, MRIs, biopsies, mammos. The actual medical part of Rayus did feel like I was in the Four Seasons of breast care. The doctor spent a LOT of time walking me through why they were concerned about the two anomalies and even gave me her direct phone number and even was the person who called to review biopsy results. (spoiler alert: both biopsies were benign) Admin / part 1 scheduling: Mixed bag; 1 STAR. AVERAGE on-hold time was well over 20 minutes. One time I held for 25 minutes and then they hung up on me. :( Longest hold time was 38 minutes. Truly unethical, IMO. We aren't doing imaging for sport. We are doing imaging because we are searching for bad agents and/or something isn't in the right place and it is stressful and can you not pick up the phone? Good god. Was bad enough that that I DROVE (20 minutes each way) to the nearest Rayus and walked into the reception to book the appointment in person. Admin / part 2 referral bermuda triangle: 0 STARS. "the doctor didn't send the referral yet" seems to be a pat answer, followed by "call back in a week; doctors always say they sent the referral but they lie." Another pat answer. One Rayus rep went so far as to say "the referrals come in by fax; there's a pile on the floor, it takes us sometimes a week to sort through them all." (Are you F***ing kidding me? As a weird aside, I got a nearly identical answer 8 years prior when they kept "losing" or "not finding" the doctor's referral.) Again: I'm doing this because I have a family history of breast cancer. Must I also suffer through the indignity of knowing that my time-sensitive pre-auth form is relying on 100-year-old fax 'techonology' ? Billing: Wait, is Bernie Madoff your accountant? -17 STARS. I arrive for first breast MRI and receptionist informs me that my "copay" is $500 since I haven't met my deductible. Hmm. I'm not sure this is correct, but she's very concise: "If you don't pay up front, then you don't get the imaging done today." Oy. I asked who I'd contact to work this out, saying that I had already met my deductible. "Um, no, there's no one to contact. We don't give refunds." So then I return the following week and I'm given the exact same shpiel. This time I'm told that I need to pay $335 for my "copay" and, again, no money, no imaging. "You'll need to call to reschedule." Then they send me an invoice for $301, claiming on the invoice that I had paid them $0. Feeling desperate (because who has an extra thousand dollars laying around?) I call my insurance company. Who, thankfully, is appalled on my behalf. "Oh, no, no. You *never* prepay imaging. That's not part of our contract with Rayus." I'm on hold about an hour total. But the good news is that after the one hour with insurance, Rayus did refund me the $835 they 'overcharged' me (or stole from me, depending on how precious you are about word choice). Other good news is that the money was back in my account in about one week. That was one month ago. (cue Jaws music) Yesterday I got a Rayus invoice informing me that I stilllll owe them $301 and their invoice still shows that they have received $0 from me and $0 from my insurance, which is wildly incorrect. I think between the four visits and eight procedures insurance has already paid them a few thousand dollars. And, yes, I will owe 20% for the first $1,000 billed. But something's rotten in Denmark when the medical billing is that insanely incorrect. Weird p.s. to all this: I got frustrated that I could not find a billing phone number for Rayus and went down a rabbit hole or two and learned that Rayus is owned by a venture capital firm that has offices in NYC and West Palm Beach. Curiouser and curiouser.

I'm in some of the worst pain I've ever experienced in my life but she had me laughing on the phone and well on my way to scheduling an urgent MRI. I've been on a lot of medical calls in the last month, advocating so hard to move forward in treatment and testing. Most offices have made me feel like I'm swimming upstream. Liz went over and above to help me schedule, to provide information about the procedure, and to assure me that she'll do all she can to help. I'm shocked in the best possible way today - and I just want to say thank you. She really takes the cake! I have had nothing but INCREDIBLE experiences here. I've been in for two separate spinal MRIs and the front desk staff, the radiology techs, and the reports after have been thorough, professional, and incredible. I really love their open MRI and it was a great option for me. The radiology tech jammed with me to some classic rock and checked in frequently about positioning, how much time I had left, and made sure I was comfortable.

A DEMOLISHING COMPANY WITH A HEART!…read more I can't say enough good things about Affordable Environmental, the owner Tony Chase, and his work crew. I've been trying off and on to leave a review and finally figured it out. In Spring 2023, Tony was hired to demolish a condemned 1930's farm house on my property that needed to come down. Everything was done on time, responsibly, and by the book, with asbestos abatement included. All for a very competitive price. And then the big twist happened, which really confirmed Tony's stellar reputation: After being told by the asbestos workers that there may be an old log cabin underneath the farm house, Tony took his time and "skinned" the side off, rather than just demolishing everything. He was able to do so because he is very skilled with a track hoe; it was like watching an artist at work! And sure enough, underneath was a solid log cabin structure that our local historical society estimates to be an old logging cabin from circa 1870's. Intact cabins like this are very hard to find and a historic preservationist is currently conducting research to confirm the age and ownership. But Affordable Environmental, aka Tony Chase, didn't stop there. Tony felt very strongly about keeping this historic find safe during the winter so it wouldn't deteriorate. He volunteered the materials and staff time to construct a roof structure, wrap the building in plastic, and install one of his own large dehumidifiers to keep it dry inside. And it's working! Research on this historic logging cabin can continue and perhaps grants can be found to preserve the structure for the long term. Thank you Tony Chase and the AE crew!
