I wish there was more variety at this store. The prices and hours are great. Parking, especially on Black Friday and leading up to the holiday season needs to be improved. I went with my cousin once on Black Friday and it was so hectic that we had to park across the street and cross a busy highway just to get to the store. Then once we got in, things were not where they usually are, making it harder to find stuff. For example, toys would be in the clothing section, DVDs would be in the grocery section, etc. It just could have been better organized. However, on a normal day, it's fairly easy to find things, and their deals are pretty good. I've gotten whole seasons of TV shows for $10 there before....not bad, when you typically pay $30+ for them elsewhere. read more

Let me start this by saying: Walmart is the last corporation I would willingly spend money at. I needed to get a roll of analog camera film developed. I called Walmart to ask if they had one-hour photo development service (because they provided this the past, but many places have been phasing that out). When I was connected with the store they said of course they still offered that service. So I drove the half hour to Walmart, only to arrive in the photo center to be informed that they no longer provide one-hour photo service. They said they could ship off my film to someplace and I could pick it up days later. I went against my morals in hopes of getting my film developed conveniently and was deeply disappointed by the lack of attention to detail in the call center. Zero stars. This has to be the worst Walmart ever. For months now I walk into this store and the shelves are 3/4 empty and the store is just trashed no matter when I go in. The other day I walked through the hardware and sporting goods dept looking for a flashlight . I could not find one , Nobody around and the signs were all wrong and the shelves were empty . Then went to stationary dept . Once again the shelves were empty . Awful ! Then went to men's dept . Once again no socks and no thermal underwear . It is terrible . It is alwys like this though. I'm done , Target is my choice from now on . So sad . I use to love Walmart but this is so disappointing. I can't keep wasting my time . read more

I just had to post this review after reading Larry's review from 08/22/2006. Twelve years ago, he commented that one of his pet peeves was "having to listen to the employees vent their personal problems to the other employees." That comment struck a chord with me as employee attitude at this particular location seems particularly poor, even by Walmart standards. On dozens of occasions, I have personally witnessed employees gathered to gripe about something or other but most often their topic seems to be management. On one occasion it was two women in the pharmacy area who seemed to think their conversation couldn't be heard by store patrons simply because the screen was closed on an after-pharmacy-hours visit. In a particularly nasty exchange, one employee was following another through a main aisle of the store, each pushing large bins full of what appeared to be trash, with the second employee lambasting the first at a rather fevered pitch for some sort of error in performance. In that instance, despite the presence of children, the 'F' bomb was dropped. I'm not sure what's different between the management of this particular location and other Walmart stores in the area, namely the Manchester store, but I don't see this level of bad behavior by employees at the other locations. My suggestion to management would be that they spend more time walking the floors instead of congregating at the front. On a separate yet noteworthy topic, at the Amherst, NH location it is absolutely essential that you check "sell by" or "pull" dates on each item of merchandise you're considering for purchase. Countless times I've picked up a grocery item only to realize the expiration date was several days in the past. One time it was the entire Great Valley cottage cheese line that had expired, and by more than ten days. That prompted me to get a second cart, load all of the expired product into it and wheel it to the nearest employee. Inexcusable, but it's a frequent problem at this store. Buyer beware. The only reason I still frequent this location is that they're directly on my ride home from work. When I can shop elsewhere, I always do. read more

I go here for the low prices on every day use items and some grocery is lower than a few other stores. Take a shopping cart and sanitize it.all over.then your hands and then sanitize again when leaving the store. I find that putting the water and other items on the bottom of the carriage ok for me to place upon the conveyor belt when at check out, LET THE CUSTOMER DO THIS PLEASE.I notice a lot of them want you to leave it there, I tell them you can easily forget to mention this to cashier or walk out w out paying for.which i dont think the store security would like at all. Walmart,UGH! As if walmart couldn't get any worse,with all the new self checkouts,it just has!! I made the mistake of going yesterday to pick up under 20 items. I am ready to check out and cannot find my usual under 20 item register? Instead there are even more self checks. I refuse to use them because I feel strongly that people are losing jobs because of these,and also, isn't it enough that I am spending money in the store,must I also spend even more time checking out ,and bagging my own items?? If so put me on the payroll walmart! Even though there were a few employee operated check outs,the lines were very long, and no one was running to check out and bag their own items. What a nightmare. The best part is ,the grocery section of the store ,the prices are the same if not more than Shaws,and Market Basket. This review is for the bakery department only. Thank you so much for the excellent cake you helped me design for my sons birthday. It was done from a personal photo and the employees added beautiful color and writing to compliment the photo. It was absolutely perfect and memorable. In addition the cake was moist and delicious. The customer service at the bakery was way above average. Knowledgable, friendly staff went above and beyond. Certainly added to a special milestone birthday. I will definitely come back. read more

Walmart is the king of low prices. American Express even ran a promotion in which they gave me $20 for making 2 $40 purchases at Walmart. In fact, I rated this Walmart 5 stars because they are a great alternative to Market Basket. The quality on average than you'd get at the average Market Basket is definitely better, and you'd spend anywhere 3-20%+ less than at any other grocery store, depending on your strategies and if you take advantage of their price matching policy for competitor's circulars. In terms of service, definitely a step above Market Basket's service, but I'd say other competitors (excluding MB) is better. I like the convenience of being able to go through self checkout if it is busy. read more

You need more human cashiers! Every time I go in there there are only two and they are overworked. We don't all want to do self check out.

This is our favorite Walmart but unfortunately very far away. Everything seems to be cheaper in Cow-Hampsha, and the people seem to be slightly more "normal" there (NOT totally normal, just "more" normal!). We only get up there about once a year, mostly when we are buying large non-food items (can I write a bad review about Taxachusett$ ?). BTW, to the reviewers who gave them one star: IT"S A WAL-MART! On December 9th, 2019 late evening went to Walmart in Amherst ST in order to return two simple items. Unused and new in their original packaging with their original receipt. Thought that would be a quick action but was wrong! A tall, over weighted and very unpleasant lady going by Tammy on her badge approached the counter for customer service without any greeting or nothing looked at me and said: What are these things? I said: Return. Then a long and unprofessional/unnecessary questioning more like an (interrogation) started which I have never seen at any department store in any part of the world. While two items were on the counter she handed me a receipt without any further due. So I asked: Did you do the return for this one too? She replied: Oh, this one too?! Then another lengthy interrogation began as to why I was returning that thing and I was about to look for their manager because enough was enough when a friend approached me saying hello. I just ignored her military style commands and waited to have my receipt and left. I am not sure if these people get any training as "how to deal with customers," looks the answer is NO. The sporting good department AKA ammo buying is another disaster/nightmare where you'll never find someone attending and when they do, they have no (beeping) idea as to items, brands or calibers. This Walmart used to be open 24/7 but they are now just open till 11pm. So to translate, the only reason Walmart was super useful, is now out the window. You can get better value at Target, which has the same hours. read more

Reading some other reviews has made me a little depressed for the state of humanity these days, when I walk into a store be it Walmart or even a convenience store I spend a moment or two finding what I want by thinking for a second about where it might be. If I don't find it then I POLITELY ask for help and 9.9 times out of 10 I get it. I've watched many fellow customers at this store in particular become extremely belligerent with employees and then wonder why they don't get their way, to that I offer a simple pearl of wisdom, misery begets misery, so if you choose to treat someone like a piece of dirt simply because they happen to have to deal with you then you deserve no better from anyone else. We are all human beings as much as some people seem to think that they're better than the rest of the world because nobody has ever told them otherwise. Now that I feel I've made my point, I do not like the staffing levels at this particular store, it is unfair to both we the customers and the employees to have a multi billion dollar corporation have a multi year hiring freeze. read more

I refuse to go here The times i have been forced in the past have been miserable... My bf will now go in and call me to say he is in hell every time- comes back with a headache and we laugh at how awful it is- and he is a super nice person who rarely complains! When you pull in you get the vibe- something is just not right with this store. The layout is insane and they keep changing it so you wander around lost having to spend more time being stuck in this awful store The people there are seriously the most miserable workers ever. Not all of them of course- Ive met some nice cashiers and give them credit for sticking it out there- id have to shoot myself... I don't know what the previous reviewers have been doing with their time to rip apart Walmart (in a novel like way)..........but mine will be short and simple. I have had nothing but good experiences there. It's clean, the employees are fine, the food is decent...................it's WALMART..... people.....not freakin' a 5-star boutique and restaurant. You get good prices and stuff is easy to get and find. When you diss the employees there (which i am not one by the way)..........that's kind of mean. Yes....most Walmarts have mullets and freaky people......but that is the way it is at every Walmart. Imagine how many fewer jobs there would be without Walmart and imagine having to drive to 10 different stores to get a bunch of stuff that you could get in one trip. Staff is friendly and polite, management not so much. Store is so overstocked that it is almost impossible to navigate. Inadequate parking for store size. Food is often spoiled - sour milk, smelly chicken, etc. Virtually impossible to find assistance, lines are at least 1/2 hour wait any time I've been there. I am extremely disappointed in my experience with Walmart purchasing from the electronics department. This past season my elderly mother has been in and out of the hospital. In an effort to keep a better eye on her we purchased a home viewing device by My Dlink. We found it to be unreliable, constantly dropping communication, freezing up. We sought to return it, but we only had the receipt from our credit card co. Walmart refused to give us a store credit, but instead shoved another useless My Dlink in our hands, ($148) item.
