My main work experience is in retail, and every time I walk into this store, all I think about is how the place runs behind the scenes. I look at how the employees talk to the customers, and I look at how items are organized within the store, amongst other things. All of which are things that not too many people even remotely think about. This place is always crowded, no matter when you go, it is always busy. Nobody can expect anything less than that, though. In saying that, the employees that work there are as friendly as they can be but I can always see the expressions on their faces that they are annoyed with somebody. One big thing I've noticed is that in a K-Mart store, if you ask someone "can you help me find something", they will help that customer no matter what department they are in. However, in Wal-Mart, every single employee's response to that same question is: "that isn't my department, I'm sorry." To me, that always begs the question: so who helps that customer? The bottom line is that it's fairly cheap, and it's big enough to say that literally anything that anybody needs can be found somewhere in that store. However, if you are looking to be treated nicely like you are a special guest, this certainly isn't the place for you to shop. read more

Oh my god. I hope you have Xanax, if you don't, you'll need it after this visit. This Walmart... I don't know where to begin. Just the THOUGHT of needing to come here fills me with anxiety. I have been to some great Walmarts and I have been to some terrible Walmarts, but I have never, ever, been to any Walmart like this one outside of Hampton Roads. The employees - if you can find any - drag their feet around and talk to you like they are slave laborers. Knowing how Wally-world can be, they probably are. The noise level is deafening. On one visit there was an alarm sounding in the auto center, you could hear it all the way at the front entrance doors. Though our entire shopping trip took about an hour and a half, the alarm was blaring the entire time. When buying fabric, I asked the attending employee if they planned on doing anything about that alarm, and she told me that it wasn't an uncommon occurrence, and that the alarm will most likely be sounding until the auto department leaves for home. Once it starts, they leave it all day. She was close to tears, as was I, since my anxiety disorder is easily aggravated by noise. As if the noise wasn't the worst part about this place, I'm assuming you came here to find something you needed. Well, GOOD LUCK. On any shopping trip we have made here, at least 70% or more of our items turned out to be incorrectly priced when it rang up. It's not worth correcting because it means another few minutes in this hell hole. IF you can locate what you're looking for on a shelf and not scattered about the aisle, I would nearly guarantee that the price and label is incorrect. Employees must literally just hang or toss the items anywhere on a shelf, paying no regards to the location or labeling. The disorganization of this place will absolutely blow your mind. Finally, when you've decided to just leave without half of your items because you *just can't take it anymore*, you'll be waiting about 30 minutes in a checkout lane, regardless of whether it is express or not. If you read this, take my warnings. Don't walk, run, as far away as you can. This is a nightmare. read more

Ghetto, everytime I see or smell ghetto I walk the other way! I came in this place to buy a gift card for one of our servicemembers separating after 14 years of service. Well, I got the gift card and the cashier told me that I had to go to the "money gram" service desk to activate it, so when I got to the cashier counter, she looked at the receipt and told me that the card was already activated. Okay, so I didn't think anything else of it. I put the gift card in another card, we said our goodbyes to the servicemember and he was on his way. I get a call from him about an hour later stating that the card was not activated, low and behold, they didnt even ring up the gift card...HOW EMBARRASING! So whenever I go to Walmart, I already have an agenda or list of what I need. Never do I go to Walmart to window shop or anything of that nature! Maybe I should give the store at least two stars because it's not the store that's ghetto it's the GHETTO ASS PEOPLE in it and that work there...UGH! read more

Out of the Walmarts in Hampton Roads this is one of the better ones. It's not open 24 hours, but the staff has always been nice to me, they're friendly, and I just think the overall cleanliness and quality of produce is way better at this Walmart than any other one...ESPECIALLY over the Military Hwy location. From now on I will drive the extra miles to go to this Walmart over the Janaf one. read more

I gave this Walmart 1 star because I couldn't give zero stars. TERRIBLE customer service! On more than one trip the cashier doesn't even acknowledge me. One of them just dropped the receipt in my direction. WTF? I was raised to have respect and when I get to the check out I always say "Hi how are you today?" and at this Walmart I literally get a blank stare... I don't get it. When actually shopping good luck finding an employee that knows what your asking or where to find it. When I'm in the home goods side I just go straight to the paint section and can usually find a nice older man that points me in the right direction. Otherwise you're on your own. I stop here when I need to pick up something cheap on my way home. It's not frequent. For groceries I now stop at the Food Lion across the street. Edit: Almost forgot selection could be better. This Walmart is always terrible. They never have what we need in stock. The customer service is always solidly okay at best and that's being generous. I've gotten clearance items that they charge me full price for so I have to return them. We've currently been sitting in line for 20 minutes no exaggeration. It's ridiculous. read more

Wow, the freaks don't just come out at night? It does what its supposed to. They hsve lots of stuff in lots of varying levels of quality and price. Not unlimited by any stretch, but it maintains the ability to be a one stop shop with a wide variety of products and goods. I visited this WalMart today and was displeased with my whole shopping experience. I wanted to purchase a piece of jewelry and asked 2 separate employees to please send someone to the jewelry counter and I waited for over 30 minutes and NO ONE came to the counter so I proceeded to lawn and garden to check out and leave and was met by a less than enthusiastic cashier by the name of "Adrian"? It's unsettling when the cashier seemed ok with everyone in front of you (she seemed real nice) and when it was my turn I was not even greeted and I waited for a minute and after I said Hello first she spoke to me. As I was driving down the aisle of the parking lot a cart collector pushed a row of carts at my car and bumped my car with the carts on the driver side door and then gave me an angry look like it was my fault. Came here after I had a tire blow out. Service guy was nice. Service itself was awful. Took 3 times as long as the estimate. And checkout with my tax ID was a nightmare. "Destany", the manager, was cold and uncaring and generally not representative of how Walmart purportedly treats its guests. I don't expect exemplary service from any Walmart but basic niceties go a long way to smoothing out difficult situations. After a generally awful day being treated with subpar customer service was really the last straw. I mean, it's a Walmart so I didn't have super high expectations before going there. With that being said, this is one of the worst Walmarts I've been to. We were there and were blocked by 3 employees from getting to some items we needed because they were just standing around talking. Didn't pay any attention to us at all. I shop here because it has most everything I need, many choices, and all in one place, pharmacy, hardware, food. However, I am most disappointed in teh cleanliness of the store. Especially the rest rooms. They are always dirty, paper on the floors, door locks broken, faucets not working properly, and only one hand towel dispenser. I only use the restrooms in an emergency now, very unpleasant. I have not gone in there yet to find the restroom clean. read more

Horrible. I just left from there tonight and they had no one running a register that isn't 20 items or less at 9pm on a Sunday. There was one with her light off that we went to because there wasn't any choice for us. I know the light being off means that the register is closing and the cashier sure made that clear to me. See if this has happened to you ? at least three times now in the last year I show and then wait in line to checkout. Get up there and everything rings correct EXCEPT the beer I bought that was on sale. Big signs everywhere ect. I ask them to change it and they go confirm the price to see I was correct and them get a manager. The manager says the can not change the price at the register on alcohol due to ABC state law. This is standard bait and switch. AS you may or may not know that is complete BS and I have even contacted ABC to confirm. This only happens at this location and you always get the same BS line even from the store manager. Anyone know that by law they have to honor the price advertised or that is bait and switch. They have found a way to with a BS story and get around this. I'm sick of it as this is the closest one to me. I will be turning them in. No other Wal mart or store has any issue changing a price that rings up wrong. Something fishing is going on here. read more

I've tried to come here a couple of times to get a simple oil change. They have changed their system in a way that is not apparent when you drive up. This morning I pulled up, went inside and asked for my oil change. The employee could hardly look up from her phone to tell me to go back outside and pull up to the attendant in the yellow hut. (A sign would have been nice.) As I was pulling my car around, someone else pulled in first (okay) and another car pulled through and didn't pull up into the line, but next to it in the drive and sat there. I pulled in behind the first car, figuring being second in line was fine. The attendant came out and started waving at me to back up without the courtesy of saying a word. He told me that other can was here before me. (The one that wasn't in line) I told him when I pulled up no one was here so I went inside. He muttered something under his breath and walked away from me. I don't understand why having a simple human conversation is so difficult. All I wanted was an oil change. First off, if I could give zero stars I would, second off I have been shopping at this Walmart for 4 months and not once have I had a good experience. And from today on I will not spend another dime in this walmart. Three stories, first one is I came here to buy a kitchen table with chairs and was ignored by 3 different employees when asking for a dolly to pick up the 150lb box after I was tired of waiting I started to push it across the store to the register then another employee asks me if I need help I replied yes she said she would get me a dolly I waited 15 min and she never returned so I continued to push it across the store once I got half way to the register another employee offered help then did the same this again so I made it to the register without any help purchased the table and chairs and didn't receive a dolly till I was OUTSIDE ! Second story , I printed some pictures out at this Walmart and tried to pay for them up front and they wouldn't scan. And I asked an employee if I could pay for them up there she replied no! You must go back to where you came from why would you be able to pay for them up here? And looked at me like I was crazy. When I didn't even ask with an attitude or anything. And my third story is I was proceeding to the checkout and was next in like today and an employee jumps in front of me after I waited twenty minutes to buy a phone and they helped him first and took another twenty minutes to help an employee. NOT A PAYING CUSTOMER THAT WAS NEXT IN LINE. I have many more stories to follow on but this is just some. I would not recommend this Walmart to a friend and I will not be spending another dime in this establishment. Very rude and unprofessional. read more

Grrrrrr.... Tidewater Walmart is a joke. They done ticked me off!!! My husband got his oil changed there. And they told him he needs to get his third brake light changed. So we go in today and ask, she tells us they have a book go look. So we do, the book doesn't go past 2010. So I go back up there, I tell her the book doesn't go pass 2010, she proceeds to tell me then we don't have it. I ask can you look it up? She said no. I ask her how do you know what numbers for things you need. She tells me they use the book. Ok so my husbands truck is a 2010, and your books don't go past 2010, did you even put the right filter etc. in there? Makes you wonder?!?! So are they even doing there jobs correctly? Are you getting the service they claim you are? Are you getting the right products? Also, the cashier back there is a rude witch!! She needs to get off her high horse, and do her job. this is about the pharmacy. I had lost my blood pressure meds on a trip , didn't have blood pressure meds. the whole day before and came here last night on November 28,2018. I have had rude service here before but the staff who worked at the pharmacy last night around 6:30 pm were amazing. They went out of the way and were nice about it. The tall black man who was the pharmacist and his crew did a lot. I was on the verge of paying full price on my med because they (insurance) were not going to pay for it because it was to soon. He told me to call my insurance company but I did not have my insurance card. He looked up the number gave it to me and the whole crew waited to see what would happened. After I got in touch with the insurance company, they then had to call the insurance company themselves. As we waited the pharmacist told me that i need to keep my card on me or take a picture of it and keep it on my phone. We live in a world where good customer service is almost forgotten and most people dont care about the service they give to you. Also, you hear so much negative things about Walmart and because of this i want to give the crew the highest praise and tell them thank you for their outstanding service if I could give them a million dollars each to show my gratitude i would but I cant afford that and i want to really tell them thank you. we traveled to cleveland, tn, to see family. they have 2 wm stores there, and the one that was rated "not good" locally was an open, bright and friendly store. almost the same stock, but friendly, helpful (we had half a dozen staff ask if we needed any help finding stuff) associates, and bright, open spaced aisles. nice sporting goods section, and well stocked housewares. a short time after we got back, went to this store to pick up some computer stuff, and it hit me: it was like walking into a ghetto thrift store. horrid, tacky clothing on packed racks greeted me. i had not been aware of how cheap and junky the place looked, and employees that were just hangin' out sucking up a paycheck. and yeh, search WalMartians on YouTube--gotta be this place. 15 minutes shopping and 45 minutes to check out, no one at the electronics cashier desks. go online to any other store (newegg has free shipping) for any product. you have been warned. read more

We came to this store around 10pm on 4/24/15 to buy some boots, we were looking at the boots sizes and my friend decided to try one of them on. As he was trying them on, one employee lady came out and gave us a nasty look and asked us with an attitude what my friend was going to do with the boots he was trying on, we replied and said we were looking for gardening boots and she said a what?? and we repeated it. She said that she couldn't understand what we were saying so we just ignored it and kept on looking for some other boots. About 10 - 15 minutes later the lady came back and we were still looking for some boots. We were actually interested on buying one and then the same employee lady came up to us and asked us if we were done with the boots with a nasty look and an attitude as if she was saying we needed to put it back. We put it back & left and decided not to buy the shoes we were interested in bc of the way we were treated. It's as if the lady saw us as a disturbance to her job. Definitely not coming back! Went to get a couple of goldfish. Had to ask for assistance from an associate. So they paged one for me. 5 minutes later I saw one and asked if they could help since I didn't see anyone coming and no one never did. Got my two fish but she poked a hole in the bag trying to write the sku number on the bag. With a pen since there were no markers available. Sat in the express line, 8 folks ahead of me. Get to the cashier and she can't read the number. Tells me to go get the number and don't worry about waiting in line again. Go get the number and go to the front of the line. Get some nasty looks from the folks I'm cutting in front of and she doesn't even recognize me. I was gone maybe 5 minutes. So we get back in line. Get up there and then she recognizes me. Get the fish and leave. Not friendly at all. Felt like I was in a Kmart. Not one friendly person. I bet if I tipped them I would've gotten better service. Next time I will go to the pet store 20 miles out of my way and pay triple before I go back to that establishment. Oh and a good cleaning could help with the smell too. read more
