Every time I make the mistake of stopping here, I am quickly reminded why I don't shop here! Stopped in on a Wednesday afternoon ~2:00 to return something. One star: because zero stars is not an option. I visited this Walmart over 4th of July weekend. I have been looking for words that encapsulate this experience for weeks now. And I'm not short on words. I have two English degrees. But, I cannot leave society without my honest opinion of this Walmart. Trust me, you'll thank me. Here goes... *Title for this Walmart: West Coast Gangsta Walmart. Why should you believe me? 1. I grew up in the area. This is a VERY questionable part of "Torrance". VERY. It has a Torrance PO, but it's Harbor Gateway that boarders Gardena/110/405/91, and the only reason I'd semi-visit this area of town (besides to access the freeway) is because the Toyota and Kings Hawaiian Bread headquarters are there, so there are a fair amount of the business crowd. If you're from LA you know in two blocks you can be on the "wrong side of the tracks" then go two more miles and be in a posh area. It's part of the charm and experience. But my dad always told me to avoid Florence & Normandie (LA riots), so given the WM is at Normandie & 190th, there you go. 2. Sources. I have three reliable sources that told me to avoid this WM. I know that sounds sketch like some "National Inquirer" article that says "Sources close to Kim Kardashian confirm she lost her baby weight eating donuts." My BFF told me not to go there & the day after I went, I met two friends for coffee who said that this WM is über sketch. Local opinions cannot steer you wrong. 3. Personal investigation/semi-ethnographic study. (You might wanna grab a glass of wine and snuggle up to your electronic device at this point.) I was staying at the Extended Stay America in the same shopping center as the Walmart (see my profile for the review on that "gem"), so unfortunately, I ended up at WM. I was coming back from a class at Torrance Crossfit (review in profile as well), when I realized I forgot a few hygiene items. I was hoping to run across a CVS, but no love. I was running on a short sched to meet my BFF and her family for lunch and not smell like a 13 year old boy, so I reluctantly went to the Walmart. As I pulled into the parking lot I told myself, "You need to see for yourself." Sweaty and in full crossfit gear, I marched inside. I've been to many WMs. I now live in The South, and well, unfortunately, I feel folks associate WM with the South because of the "People of Walmart" blog. As someone who has lived in greater LA (where we didn't have WM in the mid-late 90s...you had to drive to Oxnard for one) and the greater Atlanta area, and went to college in a southern college town, I've been to many a WMs. They all have some kinda seedy element that comes with the "Roll Back" prices, but rest assured that this Torrance/Harbor Gateway WM is in a class of its own. It's kinda like the Bloods & Crips of Walmarts. I have NEVER been in a Walmart this packed. I showed up on a Saturday between 10-11am July 4th weekend so maybe that's why. You know how Walmart never has very many cashier lines open? This Walmart had more than most, but not enough to accommodate the large crowd. On top of that, I have NEVER--NEVER--seen pretty much every shopper in line with a full cart to check out. There's merchandise everywhere in this Walmart & nothing is organized--alas it's a WM. After a what felt like a scavenger hunt, I found the four shower items I needed. Then I was stressed out about checking out. Everyone had like 1000 items and every line was long. I felt relieved to find the self-checkout with NO LINE! However, there were no bags. I didn't care, as I had so few items. However, I thought this was just the cherry on top of the sundae illustrating the ghettoness of this establishment. Actually, this WM is in the part of LA County that is on the plastic bag band, so damn it, I cannot hold that against them I guess. :( The best part? Wait for it.... The SECURITY GUARD at the door who checks your bags and receipt upon exit. I've NEVER seen a WM with a security guard. Upon further conversation with my sources, A LOT of shady shizz has gone down here, even in daylight. Luckily, I didn't have a bag, so checking my items was a breeze. All-in-all, only go to this WM if you are desperate. Seriously, pay higher prices elsewhere if you want to live to get married & tell your grandkids about this place. read more

I refuse to shop at any Walmart, but I was there with a friend of mine who still insists on shopping there. This place is ghetto as hell, and I don't see any reason to give this company any of my money. You would be well served to shop elsewhere too. Just say no. Typical trip to walmart. The store was crowded, as it's the beginning of the month. And as usual every other isle was blocked with junk. I couldn't even maneuver my basket around. I felt like a rat in a maze. I quickly remembered why I shop more at Target (clean stores) nowadays. Crowded, associates always seem to be harassed and therefore ill-tempered. Did I say crowded? Shelves are almost always empty, definitely always low on stock. I prefer the one in Cerritos on my way to/from work. I come here only when I have absolutely no choice. read more

Reading the other reviews on this place I am glad I was in and out quickly. I can't say I had many problems here. I would rate it as a so-so place. Came to this Wal-Mart because the one on Crenshaw closed down unexpectedly. I purchase an item online that I ended up not needing. The customer service associate was nice and explained their online return system is down so I had to call the store first and get an approval code first then they could accept it. Funny I went to the long beach Walmart and their online system was down also. I called the number and waited in their que for 9mins. When they rep answered the line he sounded irritated then hung up on me. 9mins waisted. I called back again and had to wait 12mins. He finally helped me but it took him so long to process everything. He also explained that it was purchased online but the stores online return system was not working then it HAD to be sent back to the online store via the return label he would send via email. All-in-all this process took 40mins and 4 different people which is unacceptable. The only reason this Walmart gets 1 star is the nice employee who tried to help but Walmart's broke system wouldn't let her. read more

Okay so my experience wasn't great. BUT, then a woman named Victoria who was in management came to help me and turned the whole situation around. She went above and beyond and told me her mission was to make he customer happy first and foremost, which is how it should be but unfortunately some places don't go by that anymore. I should have read these WARNING reviews before stepping into this store. I've never been a fan of Walmart but decided to go there for the first time. Second time actually. The first time was to purchase an item and the second time was to return it. HUGE mistake. Customer service is SO bad!!! Never again. Period! Went here to get my tires rotated since I had paid $9 per tire to get free lifetime tire rotations. The idiots put the hub caps on wrong, so that the stems were not aligned with the opening for them, and on one tire they completely covered the stem with the hub cap so that I wouldn't have been able to access it without removed the hub cap. My husband checked the tire pressures and every single tire had a different pressure, and all of them were wrong even though the receipt clearly says they adjusted them to the correct pressure. My husband was so pissed. He read the automotive manager the riot act and they fixed it (while we watched), but we never got an apology till the last minute and it was like an afterthought. As we were leaving, I saw the technician and the manager laughing together. I'll always wonder if they did the actual rotation itself. read more

I purchased a vacuum cleaner abt 4 months ago and I got a protection plan for it. The vacuum got ruined electrical issue not Walmart's fault it was the manufacture but when I tried to call the insurance for a replacement the send me to the manufacture because it had not been a year while my protection plan said it cover right away. They were giving me the run around until I got pissed and ask to speak with the supervisor. They issued a E-gift car for a smaller amount than what I paid for the vacuum and told me to purchase another one, well at least I got something back. Today I call the store and they have the worst customer service. I called to ask a simple question and the operator on shift (9/19/20 at around 6pm) couldn't give me an answer.! Why have her as an operator if she can't answer a simple question?! She transferred me over to a manager that wasn't available and it just rang and rang. I called back and told her the manager wasn't available and that I needed that information and she put me on hold to later hang up on me. I called a 3rd time still trying to get a simple answer in regards to the E-gift card I had been issued and I guess they must have a caller ID because she never answered. I called blocked and she answered I was like hello I'm trying to get this information and she said oh hold on and transferred me idk if to the same manager that wasn't there and with no answer the call got disconnected. I called back now irritated because the "operator " can't answer a simple question.! I tried calling back a couple times but she just didn't answer. We went to WalMart on August 4, 2013 ~8:30 AM, this property was SOOO disgusting - we have NEVER seen a parking so littered with papers, cups, even bones with shopping carts all over the place and even the parking lot smelled of bad odors. Even the inside was not clean like you would expect. The only reason we go to this WalMart is there is not one in the area where we live. Avoid this place. I don't expect to walk into anything fabulous when I go to a Walmart, but this particular location is just horrible. I don't know if it is just the ghetto clientele, or a lack of recovery standards, but this place usually looks pretty dumpy. I have shopped this location for a few years, but try to shop other locations. This one is a last resort. I went on Sept 14 in search of some costume accessories I had seen earlier in the week at the Buena Park location. Their Halloween section is already TORN UP and TRASHED. I don't imagine it has been out for more than a week. I did not find what I was looking for, which was okay as I am sure they are still stocking. BUT- the fact that it was so sloppy looking and not recovered is what bothered me. Costumes were spilling out of their packages and the merchandise didn't look like it was set to plannogram. I have no problem with Wal-Mart itself this location is always busy and let's fave it this is not the cleanest WM but I come here when I absolutely need to come being it's 20-25mins away. The bathrooms are disgusting I dare to go in there unless its an emergency lol. Its your local WM has everything you need and want. The employees are 50/50 some are friendly and some are not they're always moving like they are doing something which is why I cannot figure out why its always dirty could be because the store is always busy. I know its impossible to have the store immaculate 24/7 but it would help to have some of the displays off the floors being once again its a busy location. I avoid this Wal Mart. I live closest to this one and usually drive to the Cerritos location. Well, my mom bought 2 items of clothing that needed exchanged because of the size. I went in on Monday, February 14th and went to the return desk. And it was just like I suspected, similar to a DMV. They should film this area and use it on how to provide poor customer service.heir were no customers in line-just me. There were 8 or 10 employees milling around that area. I waited a few minutes to be called to one of the registers. No one said "we'll be right with you." They were comparing dates on their cell phones on when they would get their tax returns. Another associate with a yellow vest was complaining to another associate about the backlash she received for trying to help another associate balance their till. Another two associates were discussing the correct pronunciation of a security guy that checked in. To me, it felt like I was annoying them to have to wait on mer. When I did get called to a register on the right, the agent became irratated that I wanted a receipt to leave my items. They were gifts as I had explained and I had no receipt to begin with. She insisted to just leave my items at the desk and go back and get the items I wanted. I said not without a receipt. It has happened to me before where I did this only to return to the desk and the agent that helped me had left. She said, "ma'am, we are being filmed" as she pointed to the screen above. She said it in a rude tone and the whole "ma'am" thing, she may as well have been calling me the B word to my face. Unless you were raised in the south, "ma'am" is offensive. I have taught my employees to use "miss" instead. I replied I didn't care about being filmed and I wanted a receipt. She ended up telling me to keep my items with me and to go on back and get my items to exchange. RUDE, RUDE, RUDE. I hate this place. The other thing that was bad was that their were alot of shelves empty of merchandise. The shower curtain and bath towel shelves were really empty. So were the office product shelves. Good experience in this store. Very cheap prices compare to other stores. Very big store. With huge parking space. Good customer service, nice and friendly. Found everything I was looking for. They have everything cloths, food. Very clean and organized even when it is crowded. Definitely will be back.
