Whenever I shop here, I feel like I went back in time to the 1990's! In addition to the sad, outdated look, the store is dirty, has poor service at the checkouts and is often out of what we need. Walmart is the largest corporation in the world by revenue. They have deep pockets. Surely this company can afford to address the abysmal appearance of this unit. It stands in stark contrast to many of its newer sister stores in the area. Additionally, Vernon Hills is a prime retail shopping destination for Southern Lake County and although the demographic of the immediate area is higher income (the type more likely to go to Target), there are plenty of middle and upper middle class shoppers that still shop here. Maybe the reason for the current delay in remodeling is a discussed potential closing of the store and move to Mundelein - but that has been debated for several years and nothing is being done. Whoever is in charge of the Midwest region for Walmart would do well to address this location sooner than later. The adjacent Target is a much more modern and pleasant shopping experience. read more

This place is awful. I called to ask if they had a water raft in stock and right off the bat the guy said no without even checking. I decided to go to the store anyway to see if they actually had it and it turns out they did. And the checkout lady didn't seem very willing to price match to the clearance price online. read more

This Walmart is one of the few that's not a Super Walmart, so the selection is not nearly as good and they try to cram as much as possible on the valuable floor space, so the aisles are way too small/narrow. They need to get with the times and expand, instead of making the aisles annoyingly small, so that there are constant traffic jams or shopping carts getting t-boned. Super Walmarts are much better and they are so much more inviting, which is important, considering how often I need to go shopping. This Walmart is dingy, old and uninviting. The set up is terrible here too. The checkouts are always so slow and it only seems to be getting worse for some reason. I always go on a weekday and sometimes I have to wait in line for a good 15 mins. The last time I went, I had 2 small items in my hand and the guy in front of me had a jam-packed cart....and, of course he didn't care to let me go ahead of him....all the other checkout lanes were super long, so I had no choice but to wait. I bounced around from line to line for 20 mins...something needs to give here and they need to figure out how to get people in an out in a reasonable amount of time. Occasionally, there's an issue where the manager needs to be called, but most of the times that the lines are so long, it seems like they're just under-staffed at the checkouts. Also, 1 out of every 3 or 4 times I go, they're super slow to restock their shelves and I can't get what I needed. That's frustrating, because this is the closest Walmart to me, so I don't really have a choice. Lastly, the bathroom is always out of paper towels or else they never put the roll in the dispenser, they just leave it on the garbage can. That's disgusting and that's what the dispenser is for, to use. The bathroom is also in a terrible spot....you have to walk through the people that are waiting in the customer service line/area....it makes no sense/it's illogical. I wish I didn't have to come here, but it's not possible right now. read more

The greeter during the day is a guy named Timmy. He is just about the most worthless choice for a greeter I ever seen. He's seldom greeting anyone, instead he roams around flirting with female workers as well as some customers.Today as I entered he was on his cell phone checking whatever and never looked up even as I walked by.Top it off, this idiot has been there over 15 years!! So I grab a cart and it made a racket so I grabbed another one. Then I push down the aisles where I find large displays of crap dumped right smack in the middle of what used to be spacious aisles. If someopne coming toward you one has to give cuz you both won't fit. Their always out of something, and today was no different....no dental floss................other days I have found no 2% milk, no Fiber One cereal, no Egg Beater, no Broccoli Crowns, etc etc,Last week was the worst.....I needed a microwave, found the one I wanted (Oster 1100watt , 1.3 cu). But it wasn't in a box so found an employee who came over and said the one I picked was a "dummy model" just to show the product. But guess what, there wasn't any in stock!!! How this company is profitable is beyond me. Just on the items out of stock they lose revenue since I then go to the Target down the street to finish my shopping! read more

Worst Walmart every.!lines are always long, store is gross and dirty, employees are slow. It is also not a super center so often out of stock or missing inventory all together. Overall, this Walmart is horrible. Target is taking share in Vernon Hills. read more

I really dislike this Walmart and usually go to target instead. Their selection is limited, the customers can be down right grumpy rude on top of what else Walmart is known for. The bathrooms are nasty, but there are some things that target doesn't carry and some things like my vacuum bags are half the price here vs target. read more

The customer service area is very inefficient and unorganized. There is always one employee at the customer service yet a long line waiting to make returns. Another employee cannot hop on and help out. There is an employee doing side tasks but cannot think to assist with returns. In retail, it should always be assist the customer first and then do side tasks to close out the day. Just FYI...if you have a return, you will be waiting a long time in line to process it. read more

Before we moved, I shopped almost exclusively at Walmart- groceries, toiletries, random household odds and ends were only purchased there. I'm all about saving money and being able to get everything in one store. Then we moved to Vernon Hills and I've gone from weekly Walmart shopper to stopping in there maybe a handful of times in a year only out of desperation. This Walmart is an absolute dump. I don't understand it, being in such a nice area. Store is dirty, they never have anything I'm looking for as everything always seems picked over and totally disorganized. Pretty silly they have these signs outside now, urging you to buy online and pickup in store. The 1st time I tried that, nobody was at the desk and I couldn't even get my purchase retrieved (granted it was late at night, but they were open). This is probably one of the most unorganized Walmart's I've been in. Nothing is ever in the right place and the clothing section is horrendous. It's also not a super Walmart so they have a lot less items than other Walmart's. You would think that since this store is located in the middle of Vernon Hills, it would be a bit more classy, but I guess not. I stopped in this Wal Mart the other day. The store seems very run down, and (hard to believe) it smelled strongly of sweat or body odor. The smell seemed to permeate the store. Furthermore, two of the people that helped me were unfriendly and unprofessional. I would rather pay double than shop their again. read more

I went In there yesterday to pay off 2,500 worth of Layaway FRIST couldn't find anyone to help us asked for store manager he was to busy to help then they took us to back of store and left us in line this whole time I'm thinking why would I want to give my money to this establishment then I said it's for the kids stay in line ok I stayed then they where acting as if we were holding them up paying off random peoples layaway for the children for Christmas never would have thought it would've been so hard to give to the children but there was one we got through it only took 30 minutes after that we were done we went down to Toys "R" Us where they were friendly helped us immediately brought us a list of all of their layaway and children that were on that list and we paid off entire thing go Toys "R" Us Walmart you suck WTF is your problem in future I would never go back there again for anything read more

Walmart - Grocery Near Me - Vernon Hills, Illinois

Usually not that bad for anything I need to get quick but Monday night went in about 10pm grabbed some snacks including a bag of chips with one of those use now coupons stuck on the bag went to the register and the cashier was refusing to use it because it was too stuck on. I asked if I could try getting it off Judy, the cashier, kept saying she couldn't accept it if it wasn't fully intact or "it would come out of her paycheck". What stores now a days take anything out of your paycheck? So I asked if maybe a manager could unstick the coupon sticker, at this point I just wanted to prove her wrong I didn't care for the .50 cents. Judy turned her number light on and stared off into space finally the sticker must have come off magically because Judy wasn't any help. Finally I got my receipt when she tossed it on the counter it even handing it to me didn't look at me or say anything. I She was the worst cashier I've ever had at this Walmart. read more
