Despite clearly stating multiple times that I was not there for a cleaning or full exam (and that I have no history of recent cavities) I was still encouraged to proceed with a full mouth series (FMX). I explained that I had already completed one within the past two years and even offered to provide those records. However, I ultimately felt pressured into repeating the imaging. From my understanding, ADA guidelines generally recommend full mouth series every 3-5 years in the absence of clinical concerns, which made this recommendation feel unnecessary and not aligned with standard practice. I am particularly concerned about being exposed to additional radiation that did not seem clinically indicated based on my reason for the visit. This contributed to the overall impression of a bait andswitch experience. I'm glad I declined the CT scan, as that felt excessive in my situation, but I remain frustrated about the imaging that was already completed. Additionally, communication within the office was inconsistent. The hygienist who performed my testing told me my results could be reviewed over the phone, but I was later told by another staff member that this was not an option and that I would need to return in person for a consultation. Overall, the experience felt unnecessarily pressured and disjointed. I will not be returning

My wife has a condition that causes her jaw to ache after dental work is done and the amount of advance thought and planning that they do to help make exams and treatments comfortable is the best/most I have ever seen. What I love about Dr. Hanley and Fran is how they give the kind of small town care that I didn't think existed. I found Advanced Dentistry through my dental insurance provider. I called and booked a 'routine…read morecleaning'. As a new patient I had to fill out an online form and provide a copy of my insurance card. The pre-filled form they sent me had my name completely wrong, the first sign of trouble, and their terms and conditions were filled with all the ways they'd charge you penalty fees if you were late, missed, or tried to reschedule your appointment. None-the-less, I kept my appointment. The following week I arrived on time and was quickly taken back, though I had requested a regular cleaning they started with x-rays and photographs. Having provided my insurance card, I assumed this was all part of my coverage. After completing the x-rays and taking photos their office manager came back to inform me they couldn't verify my insurance coverage. When I asked how much the procedure normally is, they said they get reimbursed $120 from contract providers, but my cost would be $316. Knowing I had insurance and simply needing to get the current card, I said we can proceed with the cleaning and we'll sort out the details. After photographs were completed they started with gum measurements, which I later learned was part of a separate 'consultation' fee for $123, where they provide a sales pitch on all of the services they'd like to perform, such as removing my wisdom teeth and molars, despite no issues with either, and talk about fillings and chip repairs. Having provided additional information we were able to learn that my current insurance was not accepted by them, even though I found this office through the Delta Dental website. At this point I had been in the back room for over an hour and a half, having not a single tooth cleaned and instead 3 services performed that I did not ask for and a bill of $316 out of my pocket. I pleaded my case, that I should never have been brought back without them verifying my insurance coverage (which I provided a week in advance of my appointment), that I didn't get the service I request (nor was anything explained to me beforehand) and that since I did infact have insurance, and I found them THROUGH that insurance, that they should atleast honor their contracted rate in light of the mistake made on their end. They offered a 30% 'discount' (still double their contracted rate) and failed to return communications after I again insisted the right thing to do would be atleast honor the rate they otherwise would have been paid had they actually verified my insurance beforehand for this one time. While the staff was friendly during my visit, the follow up was poor and my overall experience made it seem like they prioritize the upsale on procedures vs. standard care.

I wish I had done more research before choosing this place because it has been nothing but a nightmare in hindsight. In the beginning, I had a lot of dental work done--weekly appointments that dragged on for months. Looking back, I always found it odd that I had a different dentist for every major procedure (tooth extractions, crowns, etc.), but I was naive and didn't question it. Fast forward just three years, and one of my crowns COMPLETELY broke off at the root, leaving nothing to salvage. Absolutely devastating. When I brought it up to them, they gaslit me, claiming that crowns and bridges "only last so many years." Excuse me... what?! That level of manipulation is insane. On top of it all, Stefanie at the front desk always had a snobby and rude attitude, which made every visit unpleasant. The only redeeming quality of this place was the sweetest dental hygienist, who honestly WAS THE ONLY REASON I came back for a cleaning after all of this. They told Cigna the office manager was out sick, and to call back in a few days, but then she called me 10 minutes later to bitch me out and tell me I'm not getting a refund. 2023 they overcharged me $240 and refused to give me refund. Said I'd have a credit until my daughter came back for more services. NOV 2024 they refused to do my daughter's fillings until I paid $663. Got EOB from my insurance, I only owed $95. Called dental office, getting run around saying I have zero balance and can't refund me until the office manager is in. She is who I talked to and refused to provide services until I paid $663. Last year getting a credit from overcharged x-rays was absolutely ridiculous, they REFUSED to refund me, now over 600 they are trying to fraudulently keep.*** *** When we originally spoke and she collected the 663, she said it was because the insurance would not cover the 8 cavities (@80each) because those teeth had cavities filled before and they won't pay for 2-4 years on same tooth. I asked if the fillings fell out and she said no, they are new cavities on a different spot on the tooth and that's why she needed to collect in full, she'll submit to the insurance and refund if they pay them. I knew the insurance would pay them because we have only had Cigna dental since March 2023, and they were "new cavities " so I paid the 663 (cavities and fluoride). ** Now after getting my EOB I called for my refund, and she is falsely saying my daughter got a mouthguard molded, SHE DID NOT. I was told the money was for her cavities in case insurance wouldn't pay it. She claims she sent me the treatment plan, SHE DID NOT. when I was on the phone w her the first time she said emailed me twice with the quote which I never received and even told her on the phone I didn't get it, but needed to go back to work so I paid it. Somehow got the receipt emailed no problem. She never once said they were molding a mouthguard or doing anything to have us purchase one from them, but she did mention at the beginning of the call she needed to wear the one they gave her. And I told her, and so did my daughter, that she never got one from them. She did not say anything about the funds being collected for a mouthguard, it was strictly the 8 cavities and fluoride. I sent my daughter to CVS to buy one as soon as she left. My daughter said they did not do any moulding for one, the dentist never mentioned one and never stated that's what they were doing. He took an X-ray to "see the cavities on her back molars" After hours of fighting with them, the front office lady says she needs to investigate if the moulding was done and call me back. This also happened in 2023, they overcharged, tried to keep it, I fought and they would only give me a "credit" for her to use up. (Absolutely ONLY reason she still went there) * I seriously doubt she even had 8 to begin with, this is a fraudulent business and I strongly urge everyone to avoid * This is common practice for them, look at their other reviews!

I was a long time patient here before it was even Herring Family Dental and it used to be great. I…read morelike Dr. Herring and Krista, but over the last year the new manager just astronomically raised prices on me. On top of that, my last cleaning was absolutely terrible. The hygienist was a nice person but it was like she just roughly jabbed my mouth and gums and did little to nothing to actually clean my teeth. I didn't even have an exam and they tried to charge me $300. After I questioned why I'm paying more than ever, they said "oh, you were getting a 50% discount, we'll honor that this time. It's $180." Are you kidding me that's the average cost for a normal visit anywhere! What finally broke the camels back, just a month after my last cleaning, this June while traveling I had developed an infection around a 30 year old root canal and had to get an extraction and bone graft. When I got back to PHX I inquired with Herring about help to adjust my flipper and they said $180 dollars for him to look at it and he won't do anything to "another Dentist's work" and it'd be an additional $300 on top of the $180 to make me a new flipper. I told them I'll find another dentist. I found 2 who quoted me -~$100 for a visit to adjust it. I feel so absolutely uncared for by Herring Family Dental. I have been a patient since literally day one and I was treated with no concern for what I had been through. No call back. Nothing. I didn't want to get work done outside of my city, but I had no choice. I would think my long time dentist would care for me more than others, but no. I found random strangers to do better... well, Thompson Peak isn't random I had been a patient there years ago when I was closer to their office, the service was great. Sadly I can't say the same for Herring. Definitely do not recommend.
