ok so I met the most amazing woman here tonight, one of those nights you wanted to hang out, but it was cold, and with covid, it is what it is, the food was very good and the heaters and plexiglass were great, but the waiter was rushing us out the minute we sat down! if I saw anyone waiting for a table for two, I would understand(there wasn't), but this guy was hurrying us to finish like he had a Mumford and son concert to go to? Got seated outside under a heat lamp, the food came out Uber quick and the service was great. Got the BLT sandwich but subbed the bacon for ham. Home fries were also bomb. Cold brew pretty good too. As a good friend once told me, you can really make a meal at Walter's what you want - there are options to stay on the cheaper side or you can ball out with fancy cocktails, oysters, and steak. We went with the latter. For dinner, I highly recommend the steak. It was cooked perfectly and seasoned well - a bonus is that it is served over a huge plate of salad and crisp french fries with a tangy chimichurri sauce and a delicious horseradish sauce. I wish I could eat this steak every night. It's that awesome. I've been for weekend brunch, as well, and enjoyed it just as much. The blackened catfish and cabbage slaw on a kaiser roll is delicious and dripping with spicy tartar sauce. Also good is the shakshuka and the eggs benedict. I really do not think you can go wrong at Walter's. Great food, a well-decorated and lovely setting and nice service. I've always enjoyed it and never had any problems! read more

Brunch restaurant in front of Fort Greene Park. The wait on a Saturday around 1:30 was real 20/30 mins. Me and my friend were seated right then and served by a really polite and smily server. As soon as you are seated you are served with complimentary small muffins. A really lovely touch. The place is small and cozy, and at the same time elegant. We had a two of their brunch specials and they were both delicious. I enjoyed very much my omelette with a side of salad and hash brown, while my friend had their burger with a mount of crispy and thin French fries. read more

Came here for brunch on a Saturday, around 1130am with my bf. Restaurant was busy but we got seated immediately. There was a group of 4 in front of us who had to wait though. Food is good here. We ordered the chicken waffles and the salmon benedict. The chicken was warm and tender with a nice fried crunchy coating. The waffles were warm soft and fuffy. Bf said it's probably one of the better waffles he's had on a chicken waffle dish (and we've tried many, since I'm a chicken waffles freak). The salmon benedict was tasty too. Good flavors, although my egg wasn't as runny as I would've liked. We ordered the cucumber Mint lemonade and the pomegranate lemonade. They were so sour...in particularly the promegranate. I have been here twice while getting my son settled at Pratt Institute. Excellent service and really excellent food makes this place a top choice in my opinion. Walter's feels like "your" restaurant the first time you eat there. The bartenders- even if you can't grab a seat- are wonderful servers. If you are lucky enough- or you made a reservation- to sit right when you get there, drinks and food are paced nicely, even if you want the time to catch up with a friend. I mostly eat pescatarian- and every dish I've had has been absolutely perfect. Let your server steer you if you need to make up your mind between something and there is always a stop in the back for a cocktail to wrap up the evening. read more

So. Many. Rats. Me and my friends had dinner here a few nights ago. My food (burger + Brussel sprouts) was delicious, but the dining experience was REVOLTING. We sat in the outdoor covered seating area on the sidewalk. The amount of RATS I saw was HORRIFYING. I've lived in nyc for a long time and I know that rats are an unfortunate fact of life here. But this was unlike anything I'd ever seen before. Walters has two open trash cans next to the building and in clear view. These trash cans were FILLED with rats ! It was disgusting. At least like 20+ rats were running across the sidewalk and diving in and out of the trash cans all evening. We could even hear them squeaking at each other!!! It was so gross. I still feel nauseous thinking about all those rats climbing over each other and running around while we sat and attempted to EAT. Can you imagine.... I am shocked that no one working there did anything. The other patrons sitting near us were also so grossed out and talking about it!! It was a disgusting experience and, even though the food was delicious, made me worried about the health & sanitation of the restaurant. Really hope they do something about this because it is such a cute place and a great location, but the fact is that it is basically a rat farm! read more

Walter's is a gift from God. When normal life returns, I urge you to experience their ambience and STELLAR customer service, but in the meantime enjoy your Caviar delivery orders. I ordered the burger and fries first, and everything was a dream. Their fries are magical in a way that really makes you understand what separates chefs from cooks. All of their food has been carefully thought out, and it shows. I assume they must have multiple steps to their fries, because the closest I've gotten to this is Minetta Tavern. The 2nd time I got this delivered the burger was still good but less magical. So I got the chicken next.... BAAAAYYYBEEEEE!!!! The spices they add to the honey for dipping your chicken in just... I mean it makes me want to cry tears of joy. ALSO they read the delivery notes, because I needed 2 in my life to properly experience my Nirvana. The chicken is super crispy and good too, but combined with the honey it's a MASTERPIECE! The mashed potatoes are decent too, it's just that beside the chicken there is no competition. Just save all of your calories for the chicken, because it's that good. Anyway, Walter's has become my go-to spot during this pandemic. We were able to get seated right away (we did come pretty early on a Sunday), but I can imagine there being a wait here as it's a pretty small restaurant with a handful of tables and a few seats at the bar. Hidden off to the side of the Walter's menu, in the "bar snacks" section alongside some good fried green tomatoes and better deviled eggs, are the best wings in NYC. This is not hyperbole. These aren't the standard gloppy sauced wings, they are instead covered in a spicy/salty dry rub, allowing them to remain perfectly crisp. They usually come eight to a $10 order. They're incredible, and yet they're easy to miss when looking over the menu. Don't. You'll regret it. This isn't a knock on the rest of the menu, because it's generally excellent. Basically everything we've tried has been good. The cumin roasted carrots & ricotta is another excellent appetizer, and the fried chicken, the burger, and the bar steak are all great for entrees. I also like the seafood stew on a cold night, but it's comparatively insubstantial for the price (the most expensive entree on an otherwise very well-priced menu). The entrees aren't anything particularly new or interesting, but they're all well-executed with good ingredients. The cocktail list is extensive and full of old favorites, but be warned that they are extremely strong (one old-fashioned is plenty). The beer list is decent but nothing special. The service is friendly, but can be a bit slow if they're crowded (which is often, and it can be a tough reservation), and the seats by the door are freezing in the winter. Walter's would be our neighborhood spot if we lived nearby...yet despite the distance we still make it here once a month or so. We had breakfast at Walters cafe, they asked how many we wanted to seat and when I let her know we had a party of 11 she immediately jumped into action. She was even nice enough to ask a couple if they minded scooting over to seat 4 of us. They were friendly and ready to serve, the hostess was great. On the downside the waiter never introduced himself finally I asked him his name and he said his name was Luis, he seemed as if he didn't care to be at work today. I could've done without him. The food was good and moderately priced, the atmosphere was friendly and upbeat and then IT happened. 2 of the 11 plates ordered had hair in the waffles . The hostess apologized repeatedly and said they were looking into it. She comped us for the waffles and the waiter gave us a complimentary key lime pie. read more

Prices are fair, portions are good. Great for casual mornings with the family or friends, family friendly (although you may need to leave the stroller outside), and tasty all around. Prices are fair for Brooklyn. The waits at Walter's can be quite long on a Saturday morning. But service is always efficient and friendly even though demand is crazy pants for them. The space is small and cozy, but they do have a couple of tables that can support larger parties of six or eight people. The booths are not super comfortable if you're carrying a lot of stuff, so try not to bring the stroller brigade. I've ordered: Pomegranate lemonade - tasty and tart Ginger beer - refreshing and spicy, served with lime for a squeeze of tart. Shakshuka tomato stew - comfort food. Perfect winter breakfast melding rish egg yolks, a slightly acidic tomato stew, and lots of vegetables. Chicken and waffles - the waffles are amazingly fluffy, with a fantastic maple butter. The chicken is super moist, tender, and has a fantastic crisp crust. I came in on a Saturday in September and sat at the bar, where there was an absolutely terrible smell of garbage for the duration of my meal. It smelled like they hadn't cleaned the restaurant in weeks. The chicken and waffles was dry and unremarkable, served bone-in despite nothing on the menu stating as much. Distance only made my heart grow fonder! We still live relatively close to here (about a 15-20 min walk) but we used to live a block away. Soooo, now that we can't just pop in whenever, I find myself actively MISSING Walter's a lot. Especially the chicken and waffles. Ohhhh, the chicken and waffles. Please hurry over and get their chicken and waffles, available for brunch on the weekends. The chicken here is so crispy, so juicy, so delicious. Even the white meat is juicy, which is impressive (each order comes with one piece of dark and white meat). If you can't make it for brunch, they do serve the fried chicken as an entree for either lunch or dinner. The waffles here are really yummy as well - they aren't exactly super crispy but are a little more on the cakey side. This makes the waffles PERFECT for holding the maple syrup and hot sauce. By the way, Walter's serves the chicken and waffles with an apple cider butter and a side of tangy hot sauce. Pro-tip: ask them for their other housemade hot sauce as well - it's smokey and more mild but a nice addition to the other flavors. The most recent time we went, we had Bloody Marys with extra olives, which were very tasty. There was a nice heat to the Bloody Mary that I appreciated. Their (I believe housemade) mix is SO flavorful and not watery at all. I really enjoyed it. For brunch, you may end up waiting up to 45min or maybe even more - it gets PACKED cus it's awesome. Came here some weeks ago and I dunno...this place may be better for brunch than dinner given all of the positive brunch reviews...cuz...dinner was...very MEH. Two stars for service and vibe though, the servers were great and the vibe is nice but - this food is like "tryna be fancy/gourmet" but sort of like a bland, meh diner. It's edible and "fine" I mean, I hadn't eaten all day so I definitely ate - but it's CERTAINLY NOT worth the price tag AT ALL. The octopus was too soft and totally bland, the fish came with a tasteless sauce, my friend's burger looked tasty tho? And another friend said the chicken was extremely bland. It's just not great food. WAY better places to eat in BK (highly recommend Otis in Bushwick, now THAT is quality, incredible food and no - I don't work for Otis nor have any connection there). I have never had such a horrible experience at Walters before. Our reservation was for 945- their website says open "til late" but doesn't say a time. Our entire party of four arrived and was seated by 10pm. Over the course of the meal we felt so rushed. The apps, drinks, and entrees all came out at the same time. I barely ate and the waitress was just pushing to clear our table off (with full plates in front of us). I had to ask her for two boxes because I barely got to enjoy any of my food. She then immediately brought over the check and then a few mins later the portable machine for us to pay. As I'm finishing packing up my food someone from the kitchen comes out, shuts off the lights and that's it. I have many years of experience in the food service industry and have never had such bizarre and rude service anywhere, let alone at Walters. Something they could've done is when we were seated mention that the kitchen was closing, or when they checked on us mentioned last call. The waitress had such poor communication that it was just like, "oh, here's your food, now pay and leave." was the feeling we all had. I was so annoyed since I was bringing out of town visitors for a nice dinner. Anything but...two thumbs down for Walters! I haven't written a review in quite a while but the experience at Walters is definitely something worth writing about. I could write a long drawn out review on the manager Allison but instead I'm just gonna stick mostly to the food because the rest of the staff is very nice. On the other hand Allison the manager should lose her job. My friend and I spent over $200 and the food had gone down in taste and quality. We went there because we wanted to stop in for a dozen oysters and a happy hour drink and then head off into the city. They had on their board Monday through Friday oysters $1.75 until 6 PM so we were arrived about 4:45. The bartender said that was his error and changed Friday to Thursday. We ended up buying a half a dozen at the $3.50 each/approximately. We shared a bottle of wine and then one of the bartenders offered us a free shot which I should've turned down and we should have headed out ... especially before the managers shift. To make a long story short the food isn't like it used to be. There are plenty of great restaurants in the area. The manager Allison it's not even worth wasting anymore time on but in my over 20 years living in NYC I've never been humiliated by a manager/staff. My friend was incredibly confused as was I. I've now been to Walter's a couple of times and can appreciate that Brooklynites like it but, to me, it is still just meh. Brunch was okay, I had an omelet, and service was friendly but very spaced out and inefficient despite what felt like an amply staffed house of hosts, servers, and runners. Mimosas and Bloody Marys at brunch are pretty standard, right? For some reason, mimosas arrived in 10-15 minutes but a Bloody Mary ordered at the same time took 30 minutes (and we had to reorder it two separate times). Rude! Typical entitled/elitist vibe from a place that thinks they're the greatest thing since sliced avocado toast. Their Google Maps description says this place is "hipster friendly" and boy, are they right. Feels straight out of Williamsburg circa 2007, catering to Midwestern kids who move here with their parents' money and think to survive in Brooklyn you need to act like a jerk. You're not the first "too cool" place in Fort Greene and you won't be the last. I'd like to tell you how the food was, but since the staff was so rude we decided to leave before eating anything.
