As written previously, my usual groomer in Queens no longer accepts kitty clients and so I have been desperately looking for a replacement. I decided I must do something about her matted mess recently, but she scowled and hissed as soon as she saw me approach with a Furminator in my hand. At one point, she even scratched my face mercilessly because that is how much she detests being brushed. THAT'S IT, KITTY, TIME TO CALL THE PROFESSIONAL!!! I found Walter's Pet Styles via Internet search and I can't be more pleased with their services. Five Stars! Outstanding! The phone was answered by a polite, friendly and helpful rep. I brought kitty in at 10:30am, spoke briefly to the groomer (a sweet gentleman named Leatre), showed him a couple of photos on my mobile phone of what kitty needed to look like and offered brief instructions (no lion cut!!! careful not to shave off her whiskers!!!). I was told that it'd normally take 4-5 hours because they do not like to stress the animals, especially cats. But as good timing would have it, kitty was done by 1pm. Yeay! Friendly. Fast. Efficient. No mistakes. My kitty emerged after her grooming session looking like a million bucks! She was shampooed, conditioned, smelled wonderfully, had her nails clipped, her ears cleaned, and after her haircut she looked just like the reference images I had shown Leatre. No lion cut, amen! Total bill: $105. A lot more than what I previously paid for in Queens, but eh... this was money I needed to spend on. THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! Now kitty's happy. So is her mommy. PS: There's an in-house vet at the store, so there's no worry about your pet being hurt (it's inevitable, you know? Come on, even humans accidentally nick themselves when they shave). read more

I can't comment on the grooming, but I can comment on the daycare. I was considering sending my dog to daycare here, but found out that they leave dogs unattended. They kick dogs with separation anxiety out for barking when there were no humans present. Why would they leave the dogs unattended when you are paying them to watch the dogs??? They also will not refund the package you purchased if your dog is kicked out for, well, being a dog. Come on! read more

This is the worst groomer I've ever been to in the three cities I've lived in. I brought my dog here one time and the groomer barely even touched his face. Every other place I've brought him, they have had no issue grooming his face. Fine. Not the biggest deal. However..... My boyfriend made another appointment here without knowing I wanted to use a different groomer because of the subpar experience. Well because of their "pay up front when you make an appointment and no refunds no matter what" policy, they charged my credit card which they have on file. I tried to cancel 2 weeks before the scheduled appointment once my boyfriend told me what he did and I'm now out $100 for absolutely nothing. Of course they claimed you can use it towards your next visit, but there won't be another visit based on the previous experience. We explained we don't want to return and were basically told "tough luck." Not the greatest way to do business ‍ You should probably rethink your policies so that they are fair to your customers and the business. You might actually make more money that way. My Scottish Fold kitty, Moses, just went to Walter's for a bath and lion cut. I had been frantically calling groomers in my neighborhood since our usual groomer (who specializes in cats) at Biscuits and Bath had left and Moses was in need of some serious grooming last minute. Walter's was able to take Moses in within 2 days, and from reading the good reviews online, I made an appointment. The storefront was so cute, and it didn't smell of dirty doggies/kitties! Walter does the grooming himself and he did a fantastic job with Moses. Being as anal as I am, we left pretty specific instructions regarding Moses' haircut, and the girl who greeted us in the store wrote everything down. I dropped him off before I went to work, and picked him up on my way home in the evening. Moses came home a handsome boy and it was exactly what I was looking for. We'll be coming back soon for our other cat, and will be visiting Walter's on a regular basis going forward. read more

I love this place! EVERYONE in this store is fantastic! I take my dog there for the fitness program they have! He LOVES going there. They are very loving and caring to your dog! The store has a Fabulous unique and sophisticated variety of merchandise! Marshall the photographer is phenomenal!!!!!!!! I took Jobo for a photo shoot and let me tell you it was the best money ever invested! He did such a great job! He is so talented! I brought my maltese, Igby, here for the first time yesterday and it was not only the best experience I've had with grooming/daycare, it was also just enjoyable. Igby looked perfect (you'd be surprised to see how much difficulty groomers have with grooming a maltese - they often turn out squirley lookin'). He also had so much fun at daycare and the handlers were awesome. You could tell they really cared and had fun with the dogs - everyone was sad to see Igby go home, and he didn't want to leave (usually he's out of there pronto). I've been taking my pup to Walter's for the last two plus years. He attends daycare and gets grooming and baths. In the city, it's the best I've found for these services. The daycare is great, and limited to smaller dogs (under 35 lbs or so). The staff always are very friendly with the pups. For grooming, Walter, does a great job, and always gives the cut I request. People on the street often comment about the smart doo my pup is sporting and ask where I take him. It's a boutique shop, so quirky, but it isn't a turn-and-burn facility. They know the dogs and treat them well, which is more than some other places. I also appreciate that it's one of the few daycare in the city that will walk your dog (not make them go inside) a few times a day for free. Other places tend to charge. Overall, I'm a fan! Of note: those comments about the owner / groomer sending harsh email etc, just to clarify, Walter is the groomer and the namesake. He he isn't the owner. He is an employee. Those emails and many of the funny rules come from Sam, who is the real owner. His staff is great but he can use a lesson in client services. ; ) read more

If you're not going to read the entirety of my review, then just know this: Amazing, totally worth it. After a recent move uptown, my blind, geriatric, Maine-Coons' grooming skills went to the gutter. Whether it was stress induced, or simply a result of his conditions, he managed to acquire an entire back of dreads, and dandruff. While I never even thought of giving him a shave, I knew that my brush and scissors were absolutely no match for his tangled web of discuting-ness. A proper shave would help him to feel more comfortable, make personal grooming easier AND...seriously detract from the amount of kitty tumbleweeds we had blowing around our apartment. (yes...I am the proud, and perpetually lint-rolling owner of TWO long haired cats) Upon calling Walter's, they had fantastic phone-side manners, were courteous, informative and genuinely interested in helping out with my predicament. We made an appointment for that very next morning. I arrived with my nervous kitty in tow just as Walter; the owner; was walking in. The entire staff introduced themselves, and Walter did not hesitate to welcome me, and begin the process of getting to know all about Oscar (my bebeh). The fact that they wanted to know as much about his history and demeanor as possible quelled my fears, as they took extra attention to note that he would behave differently because of his blindness. Another plus...they DO NOT sedate. (Many places will sedate without asking, just to get the job done, thus charging you another buck-fifty.) Walter and his groomers know and love their customers, and are obviously skilled enough to work with any kitty personality. Walter said he would "ease" Oscar into the process of getting a lion-cut, so he wouldn't be scared of his first time. When I came to pick him up later that day, they had all become friends with Oscar, and even shared some very useful kitty-factoids about blindness, which not even my money-grubbing vet cared to tell. He was calm, beautiful, and the cut was absolutely purrrrfect. I also purchased a strawberry shaped kitty bed to keep him warm, which they knocked $10 off the price of at the register. My cat has come out of his little shell, and I see he feels so much more comfortable in his own skin. I plan on keeping the lion-cut on him forever, as it is both aesthetically awesome, and easier for him to groom. For $105, it was definitely worth it. Definitely. Five stars for service, great attitude, fantastic lion-cut...and most importantly one happy happy kitty. read more

If a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Apparently this is the customer service policy at Walter's pet styles. As in, if they didn't see anything happen to your dog they are not responsible. My dog went to daycare there regularly. Until one day I picked her up after hours. When the staff handed her to me she was whimpering. And could barely walk. I took her to the vet and my vet determined she had a back injury. She was not that way when I dropped her off in the morning. I called Walters and spoke to Lindsay. She said she checked the cameras and talked to the staff. And no one saw anything. I brought my dog back to daycare when she was healed a couple of weeks later. Once again I picked her up, she wasn't feeling well. And another vet visit for back X-rays and pain meds. My vet determined at this point not to use daycare anymore because it was aggravating my dog's back. I asked Lindsay if I could get the remaining days of my 20 day package refunded. I had 18 days left in a package that I recently purchased. This is after I had purchased thousands of dollars in packages and been a loyal customer for over a year. And I even had a doctors note from my vet saying Destiny could not go to daycare anymore. I was told no. I asked if I could transfer the $600 to other services such as grooming or store merchandise credit and was told no. I would have appreciated another solution, instead I was simply out the $600 "per their policy." I did like how Walter groomed my dog so I continued to take her there for grooming. He's amazing. However, this past weekend I took my dog to get her back paws trimmed. When I picked her up she had received a full sani trim (which I didn't ask for) and her hair was cut really short. When she does get sani trims I always request scissors. This was very short and looked like it was done by a razor. Destiny laid in bed acting weird the rest of the weekend. I then noticed that she had dried blood near her vulva and red swelling and irritation. I brought her to the vet, where it was determined she has vaginitis from her hair being cut short near her vulva and my dog is now on a RX being treated. I called Lindsay who once again checked the cameras, talked to staff, and didn't see anything. When I asked why my dog received a sani when she was there for a leg trim she said she wasn't there so she didn't know. She was antagonistic and was not the tone I would have expected. I would have appreciated a "we didn't see anything but please let us know what your vet evaluates, and if it's determined she has a grooming related medical issue we'll work with you." Instead I got a "we didn't see anything not our problem." Now after a $500 vet bill yesterday and a prescription I have to apply to my dog's nether regions I just can't return anymore after this type of customer service. read more

First off, I'm not a crazy dog person. You probably think that because I have to state it, I actually am a crazy dog person. But I promise, I'm not a crazy dog person. I went to Walter's for their grooming services, so I can't speak about their other services that are offered. I called ahead and arranged for my pup to get a general shampoo and wash, including nail clipping and ear cleaning. My dog is super loving and sweet, but he hates getting his nails clipped. I told the people at Walter's this, and they assured me that they would be able to meet my needs. I can wash my dog and clean his ears at home without any issue, but I need an extra set of hands to cut his nails, so I thought I would leave that to the professionals. When I came into the store, the receptionist wasn't the friendliest of people, but fine, she doesn't need to be my best friend. I'll look past that. Then the groomer came to get my pup and she too barely said a word to me. I know my pup isn't a person, but be a little kinder to me when I'm leaving him with a relative stranger for an hour! If customer service was my biggest complaint, I'd give this place three stars, but I was shocked when I came to pick him up after his grooming. I returned at the designated time to pick up my dog, and the receptionist stated that they failed to cut his nails! Ridiculous!! They said he was too strong and couldn't complete it. Not only that, but they insisted on charging the full $35 for their services and were not in the least apologetic! My dog has had his nails cut at other places, including petco for $10 without significant difficulty, and I think that it is unacceptable that this institution couldn't provide their services. Like I said, I can't really speak about the other services that are offered at Walter's Pet Styles, but I can say that I won't be coming back here for any of my needs in the future. read more

My wife found Water's Pet Styles on Yelp and was impressed with the reviews. Our Morkie, Jake, is only 6 months old. This was his first haircut so we were a little nervous. We had taken some photos on our phone of what we were thinking for the cut but the front desk person said not to worry, they would give him an amazing puppy cut. We left him a bit worried about what a puppy cut might look like, but when we came back a few hours later, he looked AMAZING! He was also in such great spirits as well. We ended up at Walters because our beloved Ritzy Canine closed. We always heard great things but never needed to use Walters. Turns out this place is great! They gave us a tour and everything looked very cute. We use them for Day Care and Grooming. Daycare: My dog has serious separation anxiety so he cant be left alone much. He always cries when we leave him at daycare but when we come back you doesn't want to leave. He doesn't even pay attention to me on his way out. Grooming: Walter is very attentive to your needs and will always take the time to talk with you about what you want. So far, its very hit or miss, but if you take the time to explain in person you gets it right. My dog just got groomed and I was very very pleased. If you have a small dog and need daycare or grooming... This is the place. read more

Caution: do not take your dog here for any hand stripping services. Walter is a nice man but does not have a thorough understanding of hand stripping and double-coated dogs. Though I tried to resolve it onsite, they would not let me speak directly with the manager. I have a border terrier that requires hand stripping and cannot be clippered or cut. I usually do this myself, but hadn't kept up with it and needed help. Upon retrieving my dog, I could see she had not received a proper hand stripping. The parts I had done were visibly superior than what Walter had completed. And I learned on YouTube. Despite assurance from the facility, Walter displayed total ignorance of the breed's coat and proper techniques. He suggested that on the next visit we use CLIPPERS on the dog, which absolutely destroys a border terrier's coat. I requested that the coat be done by hand, and Walter used a stripping knife. This by itself it's not the biggest deal except it's clear he has poor technique with a stripping knife. The blade is used to strip the undercoat, but otherwise the tool is simply used to give you a better grip to pull the fur out from the bulb. It must be done precisely to prevent the blade from cutting the coat. Due to the very straight lines around her her, it's clear proper technique was not used with the stripping knife. I also feel certain they used clippers despite my clear request. I am basing this on the strong, hard lines I can now see on her fur that have never been there. I tried to rectify the situation onsite, but the woman in the store would not let me speak directly with Lindsay to discuss the situation. They did offer to do additional work on her, but given Walter's open ignorance of the breed and the shoddy work already done....why would I? Why allow more poor work to be done on my dog? In short, they have no expertise in hand stripping, should not provide this service, and do not stand by their work. I've had her hand stripped twice elsewhere (out of state) and was thrilled. Let's pray permanent damage was not done to my dog's coat. I will be posting warnings about this business on all terrier boards in the tri-state area. read more

Fast, Friendly, Great Service. Reasonable prices too! We brought our dog in to have her nails trimmed this weekend. We didn't have an appointment but hoped we could do a walk-in. Luckily, they take walk-ins and they do not make you wait around. They took my dog in within 5 minutes of our arrival and we were in and out of the place within 15 minutes. The most important thing was my dog was not freaked out. She wasn't afraid and didn't seemed to be spooked by them when they brought her back. They did a great job trimming her nails too. Our dog Lily has been going to Walters for about a year and a half and we love it! We go to Walters for just about everything: Daycare - my husband and I both work long days, so the unlimited "VIP" option was best for us. Under that package, they take her out for a walk twice a day (which is often an extra cost at other daycares). And while she loves playing with the other dogs, she's definitely a "people dog" and we appreciate that they always have attendants in with the dogs playing with them and cuddling them. Another great aspect is their late night pick up option (for $10/hr we can pick her up after closing time at @8pm anytime before midnight) - every now and then when we're in a pinch its great to have an option to get her later that night. Boarding - All of the same sweet personalities that take care of Lily during daycare, take good care of her when we need to go away for the weekend. Grooming - Walter gave Lily her best haircut to date and we always request him. We like him so much we advance bought several groomings the last time they ran a sale. My frenchie puppy, Winston, starting coming to this daycare a couple weeks ago since it's an avenue away from my office. He absolutely loves it! Despite fighting through the now freezing winter from Hoboken, he still gets so excited to come to Walter's. He jumps in his dog bag immediately in the morning, and as soon as we enter Walter's he is so excited to get taken downstairs. Although he is shivering from the cold, he's still jumping and shaking his butt in pure excitement cause he gets to spend the day with his new friends. It's nice to know that my new puppy is in safe hands while I'm not around and even better to know that he will be so exhausted when I pick him up tonight, I won't have to worry about having him teething on my furniture when we get home. read more

I called on Saturday asking about pricing/ if I had to make an appointment for a nail trim for my dog. After speaking with Arielle and explaining to her that I just moved to NY from LA and desperately needed a place, she agreed to take my pup and cut his nails on Sunday before the store was open. (Normally they don't do trims on Sunday.) It really showed how dedicated they are to their customers and how much they care about the animals! I am so thankful for Walters. My first day they gave me a free trial daycare with a scheduled grooming I had paid for. They have an actual itinerary for your pup during daycare and they take your dog outside for a walk for no additional cost (unlike B&B) which I have seen them do as I am neighbors with them. When I came to pick him up they gave me a list of everything that he did that day and a description every other dog he played with. They really paid close attention to my frenchie puppy and I really appreciate that. They also provided me with this welcome package after our first day which included hand sanitizer, a collar (which hysterically had Walters face on it!! Lol), a collapsible water bowl, a water bottle, brochures for Walters (including discounts to the store), and my favorite which was a handwritten note from the staff and 3 photographs displaying his day.
