I've found it a challenge to find someone who does even a decent job shining shoes. None of the shoe repair places I've tried spend time on shoe shines. They clean them up but the shoes don't shine and some scuffs and scratches aren't removed. I used to go to Walter years ago when he was at BH Car Wash, where he did outstanding work. Then he moved. I brought my very well-worn nice expensive sets of three different shoes to Walter today. For only seven dollars each he shined them to a military grade buff and made them look brand-new again. There is a car wash there and plenty of other businesses in the West LA area. If you're looking for some efficiency as well you can have your car done grab a haircut have lunch and do some shopping or whatever. Three rules for fine shoes. Get properly fitting cedar shoe trees. Store them in flannel bags. Take them to Walter when you first buy them and again every few months. With proper polishing and shoes trees, good shoes can be a lifetime investment. I can't imagine going to a big customer meeting without seeing Walter first. He'll put a coat of glass on your shoes. I've been to many over the years, including the best, exclusive country clubs, but Walter takes the cake. He does it right, starting with soap and water cleaning, then multi- layer polish and buffing with no spray-on crud (aerosols have alcohol in them, which dries and cracks leather) taking the shoe to mirror-like appearance (unless you don't want that on some shoes). Finally he dresses the soles, and voila! They look better than new. As a former westsider, where I came across Walter, I drive from Calabasas every couple months with 8-10 pairs of shoes just to make sure my shoes are done right. I'd gotten a terrible shoe shine at SFO by an older guy who didn't realize he was using the wrong color polish on my White's boots. Needless to say, the boots needed to be stripped with saddle soap and re-polished - and Walter did this just now to fantastic effect. He didn't use alcohol, which would have dried out the leather - he did it the appropriate way, taking care to cover the stitching on the edges of the boots. He applied at least 3 coats, and did 4 different passes of polish and buffing. Fully recommend. read more

This dude is awesome with getting that "mirror" shine on boots. And the short amount of time he's able to do it in is awesome. About 15-20 minutes per pair.
