My wife's diamond came out of its mounting while we were on vacation in Miami. When we returned to Arizona, a friend recommended Walt's, so we brought the ring there to have a new setting made. Initially, the ring came out beautifully and my wife was very happy with the result. However, after a couple of years, the band started chipping, so we brought the ring back to Walt's for repair. After they had the ring for a couple of weeks, we went in to pick it up and immediately noticed the diamond was not positioned the same way it had been when we dropped it off. It was clearly crooked and had been changed from its original position. My wife tried to explain this to Cheryl, but instead of listening to our concern, she insisted it was our issue. She repeatedly told my wife that because the diamond has a unique cut it would always appear crooked. The problem is, the original jeweler at Walt's had the diamond set perfectly the first time, so we don't understand why it couldn't be done again. What made the situation worse was the tone of the conversation. When a customer raises a concern, it shouldn't be met with someone speaking down to them. For over a month now, we have asked multiple times to speak with the owner, Javier, but we keep getting the runaround. On top of that, we asked them to have the ring appraised while it was there. When we received the appraisal back, the ring was significantly undervalued. The carat weight was listed as more than a full carat lower than the actual diamond, and the clarity and color were also incorrect. When we asked why the appraiser didn't request our GIA documentation, we were told we should have brought it ourselves. As customers, how would we know that was necessary if no one asked? Lastly, while my wife was there looking for a 10-year anniversary band, she felt like she was treated as if she wasn't worthy of being a customer. Ironically, she ended up purchasing a beautiful $8,000 band that matches her ring set. At this point, we are having another jeweler correct the issues with the ring, and possibly even create a new setting because we've lost confidence in Walt's. We have asked repeatedly to speak with Javier, but the staff says he is in the reserves and they never know when he'll be in the office. It's disappointing that a business would handle customer concerns this way. Unfortunately, because of this experience, we will be taking our business elsewhere going forward. read more

I've heard so many good things about this place and was a bit disappointed in the customer service. I walked in and saw 2 ladies helping customers and 1 lady sitting at a desk ...another customer waiting for someone else. I was not greeted up in entry which was a bit awkward.....did I need an appointment? Neither one made eye contact or gave any sign they knew I was there. Very strange. I was not dressed poorly, I was actually dressed up which made me feel more awkward. I continued to walk thru the store for about 15 mins just looking at the cases being patient as I had the time. No one glanced at me though I tried to catch their eye. I eventually sat near one lady who was working on a necklace fitting with her customer. Still no nod or anything....no "I will be right with you". 2 older gray haired people walked in and were immediately greeted by the counter lady I sat near and I thought.....am I invisible??? The counter lady went to the back and the remaining sales lady finished with her customer, looked at the older couple then me as she couldn't figure out who was next ‍ The couple knew I was here because they smile at me when the walked in....I raised my hand to ask my question and then left. I walked into Walts today hoping to shop. There were 3 very mature sales people with customers. NOT A MASK ON ANYONE OF THEM!!! The salesperson who approached me seemed friendly enough as she spewed THEIR OWN MISGUIDED INTERPRETATION of "CDC guidelines for small business" so I guess it's true, Ignorance is bliss. Unfortunately, my last experience here will make it hard to return. I have used this jeweler in the past to fix a very old ring and replace a few small diamonds in my wedding band and the service was great and the quality seemed great. I would say the feel when you walk in is not always super welcoming, but it wasn't a deal breaker. This time I needed a new head on my engagement ring to hold my diamond. I went to pick it up and my ring didn't fit... it was a half a size too small. They weren't supposed to do anything to the band, just replace the head, however the jeweler misread the note and sized my ring from a 7 to a 6.5. While the person helping me was obviously confused as to why it didn't fit bc they weren't supposed to do anything to the band, another person walked over, she seemed to be more of a manager and insisted that it wasn't touched. That maybe my fingers were swollen, when it actually wasn't even close to going over my finger joint. Never did they apologize or even take blame for the mistake. She woman actually heckled me for wearing my rings while I worked out or in the pool. After speaking to the jeweler in the back they said it must have gotten sized by mistake bc they misread the note, no apology just to come back the next day. I went in today and paid and got my ring. They said " sorry about that" as I walked out. Mistakes happen, but how you handle the mistake shows the integrity of a business. I would expect in a situation like this to not have to prove that the ring clearly got sized by mistake and to empathize with the customer. Apologizing and owning the mistake would also be a great customer service skill. Unfortunately that did not happen here today. read more

If I could give this place negative stars I would. They sold my fiancé an engagement ring with a faulty setting and the center stone fell out within 24 hours of wearing it. The prong broke off and nothing even happened to the ring. Mind you I'm 10 weeks pregnant so I've pretty much been on bed rest and I didn't even as much as knock the ring on the bathroom counter or snag it on a piece of clothing. Nothing happened whatsoever - poor craftsmanship or a manufacturing defect caused this to happen. We went in to try and come to a resolution and they insisted that the only way this could have happened was with intense blunt or strong force. They wouldn't work with us at all other than an option to buy another Diamond at a "discounted" price and have them repair the band. Why on earth would we still want this band and why would we trust them to make it properly the second time? I've worn real diamond rings, I've worn costume jewelry and pretty much everything in between and for years on end and never have I seen anything like this happen, let alone in 24 hours of wearing something. As much as I realize it's our word against theirs in terms of what happened, we instead asked for a refund of just the band then and they wouldnt even refund that! They said the ring was damaged and against their return policy! Lol!! Well yes, it is damaged! Because of the way it was crafted and this would have been a decent compromise but nope, so we are just out thousands of dollars and have absolutely nothing to show for it except a busted ring band. This is absolutely TERRIBLE business. Defects happen from time to time and the fact that this happened within 24 hours and they won't take ANY responsibility for it is just shameful and SO WRONG. read more

This place is a joke and I feel sorry for the people that work there. The owner is condescending and rude and refuses to take ownership and/or accountability. A family member had a horrible experience with the ring that she purchased, and I witnessed the owner put all the blame on her. Not once did he apologize for anything. What's worse is when we posted a negative review his ego won't allow him to just leave it he HAS to respond and argue. If I could give this place 0 stars simply due to the customer service alone I would. My mother's watch needed a new battery and a thorough cleaning so I took it to Walt's Jewelers since I knew that was where she had gone for years. They remembered her when I mentioned her name. A couple of days later I got it back, fully working and clean as a whistle. I was very satisfied with their customer service and could see why she liked them. Plus they were just down the street from her house. I drove past this place while in town in April/May this year and was sorry to see it was closed and empty. A victim of the economy probably. Incompetent or liars. Either is completely unacceptable if your telling customers you perform watch repair. My watch stopped working. I brought it to Walt's. They told me my battery was fine. They didn't know why it wasn't working. They sent it to "watchmaker" ha ha! "Watchmaker said it needs a tune up and will cost $90. I declined. I picked up my watch and took it to Walmart. The lady there helped me open it. We found a battery for my flashlight on the watch and a second battery for the movement. We replaced the battery for the movement and the watch worked. Walt's "watchmaker " is incompetent or a liar! Either is unacceptable if your telling customers your sending their fine jewelry to a watchmaker!!!!!!!!!! To your response..... Blah blah blah!! DON'T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER!! I have 4 high end watches that needed batteries. Since my jeweler had moved to downtown Mesa upon his semi-retirement, I decided to try Walt's since it was closer and therefore, more convenient. It was only batteries after all. Now granted, my visit this afternoon was after both going to the gym and receiving a facial. Though not at my best, I was not a slob. Upon my arrival, there were 3 associates: one was helping customers, one doing what appeared to be book keeping, and a third gentleman sitting and doing ... really nothing. After a minute or so of just standing there, I was "acknowledged" by the woman doing the book keeping who said she'd be with me in a minute. I thought no big deal and proceeded to browse. Immediately I spotted a sapphire/diamond necklace that would be perfect to replace the one I lost, as well as a beautiful peridot circular pendant. One of my downfalls is that I have never been a hard sale. After several minutes another customer came in to pick up a repair. The man sitting immediately got up and asked if he could help her. I was pretty disgusted. In disbelief, I incredulously looked at him and the lady doing book keeping, then shook my head as I proceeded to turn around and walk out the door. The customer service is lacking at best. To endure such an unwarranted pretentious attitude from a small jeweler in a dink Gilbert strip mall is absurd. Should anyone choose to visit this establishment, I would suggest not doing it after the gym!! You will be judged. They had a great sale going and I was also able to utilize the Yelp check-in offer for an additional $20 off. Not only was the staff helpful and nice they called me 2 minutes after I left and informed me that they hadn't taken the Yelp discount off. I returned and they had cash waiting for me. I took my custom engagement ring here for a sizing. Our jeweler lives in Chicago and I needed the ring tighter on my finger because it kept moving side to side. I took it to Walt's who sized the ring. Within 2 weeks, the splice began to open and my ring completely lost its shape. I went back in to express my concerns that it wasn't sized enough and it had ruined my ring. Their solution was to charge me another $90 to fix it. I originally paid $100 for the ring to be sized, but they didn't even do that correctly. I had to bring my ring back to the jeweler who made it in Chicago, who had to redo the entire setting because it was so bad. The splice opened all of the way and I even lost a diamond. This jeweler charged a ton of money for a very poor job that ruined the integrity of my ring. 10/15/18 - I've responded to your message just now with my contact information and date it was repaired (mid December 2017). I returned to the store mid January when the splice started opening and ring had lost its round shape (because diamond bands were not reset). There are diamonds about 8-10 on each side going down the band. It is made of platinum and the band is thin as you've stated. I was told initially the sizing cost was more expensive at $100 because the diamonds on the side of band needed to be reset. The jeweler sizing the ring clearly just cut the splice, removed some platinum and attached the two ends. You can see because the ring no longer has the circular shape. I was quoted a further price (somewhere between $60-90) to reset the diamonds so the splice would not open again. I'm not sure why that wasn't done in the first place. I didn't want to spend more money fixing the problem when I had already lost trust. read more

Dropped my ring off Monday, so one week turn around on average. Price was a little over $200 for my engament ring and wedding band, so not unreasonable. Overall excellent, prompt customer service. Always greeted by someone upon arrival. Definitely get the sense that these people have been in business for awhile and know what they are doing. i brought my husbands watch in for a new battery and when i got it back the second hand no longer worked and after going swimming water got inside. i took it back and she told me the gasket was not put in correctly. the also told me they do not guarantee that watches will be water proof unless you send them to the 'watch maker" , a service that i was never told about when i dropped it off. they are very nice people but did not do right by me. i was told they could try to fix it but it would cost $250.00. needless to say i wont be returning. read more
