For decades, I have been a sporadic visitor to Mahé. But my visits were limited to refreshments at the bar, and maybe sushi and rolls. In recent months, I have been ordering entrées from the menu. With this in mind, I am submitting this Yelp. Clam Chowder: The menu lists this soup as "award winning". Staff assured me that they make their own clam chowder (it does not come out of a can). The chowder is very good. The taste stands out from chowders I have had at other restaurants. It has a savoriness, which I assume comes from bacon. Surf & Chips: This entrée has 3pc of white fish and 3pc of shrimp, fried in a tempura type batter. There is a small bowl of sesame slaw, and a lot of shoestring French-fried potatoes. I "feel" that the pieces of fried fish are a bit small. I suspect that the fish is sized to match the size of the fried shrimp for presentation purposes. But at $25, I think the pricing is reasonable in the current environment. Grilled Ribeye & Nate's Fillet: I have ordered both steaks (ribeye and filet mignon) on different occasions. The steaks here are very good for a restaurant which is not steakhouse. Service at the bar has always been good. If the pace of drink orders isn't too brisk, the bartenders are entertaining. Wife and I decided to have dinner before the Gary Owen's comedy show in Long Beach. We ordered 2 rolls a sashimi platter, oysters and asparagus fries.try the asparagus fries they are great the tempura batter was perfect. The sashimi platter was a great try as well. The 2 rolls we ordered were great as well. The restaurant does get packed and reservations are recommended. Small parking lot as well. I always get the tataki wraps. My friend loves the Jose's tuna. They have a nice pairing lot which is rare in this area. I usually make a reservation on Yelp. They have a nice happy hour. My husband and I went Friday night around 8:15p not busy in the dining area but some people in the bar. Waitress was very sweet and pleasant but my 1 star rating comes from the food and quality of the food. We started with miso soup, oysters and edamame. Miso came first and it was lukewarm. I asked if we could get one hot and she was super nice about it and apologized. Oysters came next. We got six. All of them were good quality except the last one. The liquid in the oyster was tinted grey and when we smelled it, it made us gage. I've never smelled a bad oyster before and I would not recommend it. We asked if the head chef could smell it and see if he was smelling what we were smelling. We watched him kinda shrug at the waitress. She came back and told us that he wasn't sure and she doesn't eat oysters. I proceeded to tell her you don't need to eat oysters to know that this smells rank. They decided to give us one more oyster to replace the bad one, but at this point, our stomachs were turned so we did not eat it. After this, the edamame came and it was not hot. It felt like it was hot at some point in time, but then it sat for 20 min. We Didn't say anything about the edamame. At this point, we should've cut our losses and paid for what we got and left, but we decided to stick it out and we ordered a couple pieces of sushi. The sushi was fine but nothing to gloat about. With having two food items sent back you would think that the manager on duty would maybe want to come to our table and see what was going on but they did not. We ended up being paranoid all night thinking we were going to get food poisoning. We've been here before a couple years ago and I'm not sure if there's new owners but the low quality of food is very noticeable. We will not be coming back in fear of being food poisoned. read more

I came here for a nice dinner get away and I choose it because the menu looked amazing and it was off the main street strip. This place is easy to park at and the staff are very nice. However, the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered the cooked salmon with veggies as well as the Mahe Mahi which also includes veggies. What I found a lot comical is that instead of veggies turns out to be just asparagus. So I suppose it is just "Veggie." When I had ordered my Mahi dish, they server didn't even bat an eye when I said I would like double veggies (as you get one side option as an additional choice). I guess I should have asked, but when the plate was served to the table it was literally a small piece of Mahi Mahi and 8 stalks of asparagus on plate.. for 30 bucks. Unfortunately though the Mahi Mahi was extremely overcooked and dry. No flake to the fish at all. The Salmon was also overcooked, unfortunate. In total this is about a $45 per person kind of meal (tx+tps) and all we got were two entrees, and what a disappointment they both were. Perhaps other food items are a better choices here, but as this price point I expect better than what they served. This place has charm, but I am not convinced the mission of serving good food is echoed throughout every stage of the process.. better luck next time. read more

Very disappointing. To be fair, it has been years (before the lockdown) since we were here. We used to really enjoy it...NOT AT ALL THIS TIME! The cocktails were pretty good, but our Caesar salad was lettuce and "hard" parm cheese; difficult chew. My fish in my "fish and chips" order was mushy and skimpy at best. First time here. I've driven past this place hundreds of times over the years. The service was okay. Our waitress was busy and didn't really check on us and drinks were slow to come out. The food was good but nothing spectacular. I had the seafood pasta and the portions were a little on the smaller size. I took a dear friend there for dinner last Saturday. I hadn't been there since it was the glider inn and back then it was very good. My friend had the salmon which was excellent. I opted for the stuffed chicken and unfortunately although it was very tasty the chicken was dried out. It appeared that my plate sat under heating lamps for some minutes before my friend's dish was ready to be served. Either way I should have sent it back and had seafood instead. My mistake. The stuffed chicken breast had a wonderful mushroom gravy and the meat was stuffed with mushrooms and artichoke. I believe if the dish was served timely it would have been much better. We sat in the corner booth and it was quite noisy. There are so many fine seafood restaurants in the Long Beach Seal Beach area... I don't know that I would recommend Mahé. read more

We've been meaning to check this spot out forever and received a Thank You gift card from some friends, so we finally got a chance to try it. The pineapple martini was great (no where near as sweet as I expected, actually a bit dry, which was quite nice). The Mahé nachos were tasty, though it might have been nice to have eaten them more like chips and dip, since the wonton chips got a little soft in the sauce after a few minutes. I almost got the stuffed chicken (that'll be next on the menu when we go back), since the waiter mentioned that it commonly sells out, but we stuck with sushi.
