Going out for ice cream is def not a cheap treat anymore.... I stopped by & ordered a single scoop in a cup of big face coffee affogato. Naturally, not knowing what big face coffee is..... I asked the girl what it was. She didn't know. Soooooo I sampled it and thought it was pretty good & settled on that. I don't know the caffeine amount for strength of the coffee they used in it, but I thought the flavor was very creamy. Anyways for 2 ice cream it was $22. granted the second ice cream was in a waffle cone in a cup with whipped cream. I still was shocked about $22 ice cream for 2 people. lol maybe that's just me. Delicious ice cream next to the water. Grabbed a double scoop of black Cherry chip and their seasonal hazelnut cookies and cream. Sad times they don't do split scoops and the double scoop was a bit small. Both were very delicious though. Best sweet treat surprise! While walking around 2nd & PCH, I was excited to find this ice cream shop tucked in the corner of the shopping center. At around 6:30pm on a Saturday, there were only a couple groups in front of us, and it didn't take too long to get to the front. Like any good ice creams shop, they let you try a variety of flavors. We ended up getting two scoops for about $9 to share, which felt like a much better value than paying over $7 for a single scoop. I ordered a scoop of coffee affogato and seasonal dulce hazelnut cookies and cream. Wow, such high quality! Both flavors were creamy without any artificial aftertaste. I liked how the cookies and cream had real cookie pieces mixed throughout, and mixed with hazelnut worked surprisingly well. It was delicious premium ice cream, and I can't wait to be back in the area to try another scoop! read more

The brand was created in 2008, but wasn't known on the westside until just before the pandemic. I had them on my radar, but never visited their brick & mortar shop. Most recently, I purchased some Blue Jasmine Tea ice cream bars at Grocery Outlet. Decent floral jasmine flavor, but dry texture, possibly freezer burn? Thought it might be better at the store because it's fresher. It was a rainy day so there weren't too many customers interested in ice cream. My son & I stopped by after dinner to check out their current flavors. There was a couple ahead of us, just finishing their payment. It didn't take very long even with one person behind the counter. I asked to try a couple of flavors: Mango Sticky Rice & Strawberry Matcha Latte. Both were pretty tasty, definitely better quality & flavor than the market's bars. My 10 YO stuck to classic Strawberry & choose 1 scoop with rainbow sprinkles; you get 1 free topping which made it slightly more bearable at $7.45 for a 1 flavor serving. Their formula is a simple combination of milk, cream, eggs, & cane sugar for happiness of good-good, not good-bad. I like the strawberry ice cream, but it didn't contain any strawberries. Was it strained? IDK, but I didn't see any strawberry pieces or bits. There's been an issue with their authenticity, & were accused of misleading customers into believing that labeled "honeycomb" ice cream contain actual honey when they don't. Prices run from Good ($7.45/1 flavor), Gooder ($8.95/2 flavors), Goodest ($10.45/3 flavors) with toppings between $1.25 - $2.00 with a couple dozen flavors to choose from. If ice cream scoops aren't your thing, there's also a make your own sundae, milkshake, ice cream sandwich, or root beer float. The shop's interior is average size with cute, clean decor, booth seating in the back, & counter seats near the entrance. Service is friendly & quick. Visited here after lunch for something sweet. This spot is located inside 2nd & PCH on the first floor. Parking: There's a parking structure with free 90 minute parking. There's free street parking, but it's difficult to find. There's also a free parking lot across the street. Finding a spot in the lot can be a hit or miss. Ambiance/Environment: They have a small space with very few indoor seating. The tables are located in the back of the store. All the ice cream flavors are organized and labeled. Service: The worker was simply nice and efficient. They allow you to sample any ice cream flavor. The worker that assisted us was knowledgable about the flavors and recommended us her favorites. Ice Cream: After sampling a few flavors, I decided to go with one scoop of the Vegan Cookies & Cream Caramel Swirl. The caramel flavor was very faint, but the cookies & cream flavor came through. The texture was creamy. It was good enough to satisfy my sweet cravings. Pricing: Prices are definitely expensive for a cup of ice cream. Considering where it's located, I'm not surprised. I sampled three flavors: honeycomb (listed as their #3 most popular on the website, and the one I ended up choosing!), praline butter cake (a little too sweet for me), and bigface coffee affogato (really good, though I wasn't in the mood for coffee that day). For my two scoops, I went with the honeycomb and my trusty go-to, mint chocolate chip. The honeycomb is described as sweet cream ice cream with gooey honeycomb candy pieces. Honeycomb itself is a caramel-like candy that tastes a lot like dulce de leche--rich, sweet, and a little chewy. The mint chip, while not spectacular, was a solid classic. The chocolate pieces were plentiful and on the larger side, which I actually enjoyed. Customer Service: The staff member who helped us was friendly, patient, and allowed us to try a few flavors. She even informed us of her favorite, the bigface coffee affogato, which was tasty! A few Indoor seating options are available. I've had Van Leeuwen ice cream before from the grocery store. However, this is my first time in one of their scoop shops. According to Google, The company Started as a single yellow truck in NYC in 2008, they have grown to nearly 100 locations, including recent expansions into Chicago. Their products are also available in over 12,000 grocery stores. This location is in the popular open air shopping center at 2nd and PCH in Long Beach. They are located in the center by the fountain and the large outdoor seating area. There is more than one parking garage near by. Grab a ticket at the gate. Parking is Free for the first 90 minutes. And $2 an hour after that. The interior of the shop is modern. The walls are painted in a fresh lavender color and the floors are tiled in a black and white floral pattern. There are a couple of tables and a window counter with a few stools. It is lively with some popular and adult alternative music playing in the background. They offer ice cream by the scoop, sundaes, floats, as well as lots of different toppings. They serve over 30 signature flavors, including dairy and vegan options, along with unique, limited-edition collaborations. They offer taste samples. For people with allergy concerns, they have a barcode that you can scan for allergen details by flavor. Which i thought was pretty cool. I originally wanted the Sicilian pistachio, but they were out. So, I had a vanilla bean sundae with a pistachio cream, hot fudge, almonds, and whipped cream. It was a simple combination. But overall, it was really good. The pistachio cream was a great compliment to the vanilla, but it was a little too sweet for my taste. They have several interesting flavor combinations. I am looking forward to trying the Sicilian pistachio, honeycomb and Big face coffee affogato among others. The staff was very friendly and helpful and they let you try samples so you can figure out what flavor you like before you order. I ended up getting the single flavor of the pistachio for $7.45. It was so good! A rich, roasted, nutty flavor (not like the other store bought ones that use almond extract) and I was happy to hear that no artificial colors or flavors were used in the ice cream. My only complaint is that part of my ice cream had hard ice on it. My guess is that when the scooper gets rinsed, the water from that gets on the ice cream and it freezes. This review is regarding Door Dash order, ordered their Carmel Cone Sundae. First time it was sent with 4 cups, one with the ice cream, one with the caramel, one with the cone crisps, and one with the whipped cream. Brilliant packaging for the trip! Ordered again the next day, expecting that this way of packaging was standard protocol. NOPE! This time it was packaged like if you ordered it at the store location. All in one cup, a soggy mess of the crisps, Carmel mixed all in with ice cream-ruined. I already expect a semi melted ice cream as delivery app drivers rarely keep cold items cold and warm items warm via proper insulated chests. But this was on the establshment. Came here after grabbing a bite to eat nearby with my girlfriend and it was exactly the kind of sweet finish we were looking for. The shop itself is nice, clean, and bright, and the staff was welcoming and patient, which goes a long way when you're standing there debating flavors at 9-10pm. My girlfriend ordered the Coffee Affogato, and that ended up being the star of the night. The flavor was spot on it was rich, bold coffee without being too bitter, and just the right amount of sweetness. We both loved it and would 100% order it again. I decided to go completely left and tried the vegan Banana Bread Pudding ice cream. Texturally, it was super creamy with a great mouthfeel and honestly if I didn't know it was vegan I probably wouldn't have guessed. The only miss for me was the banana flavor which fell a little short of what I was hoping for. That said for a vegan option I was pleasantly surprised and wouldn't hesitate to try more of their non dairy flavors. My only real knock on Van Leeuwen is the portion size. For the price point I definitely expected just a bit more in the cup. It's not a dealbreaker but it's noticeable especially if you're used to more generous scoops elsewhere. Overall though this is a great spot for quality ice cream, creative flavors (including vegan), and friendly late night service. I don't know what kind of customer service that is, but if you're getting annoyed of customers trying different flavors maybe this isn't the job for you. Icecream was honey. That's really something to work on as a team because when someone is looking forward to getting ice cream or treating themselves for some ice cream, but then the experience is bad... what's the point for giving bad energy for?
