An eye-catching north Bishop, CA, casino/filling-station complex on U.S. 395, the gas-price tower first drew me to its pumps. However, the electronic billboard for the casino, especially as it ballyhooed Friday-Saturday prime rib dinners, failed to goad me inside because it was never either of those days. With spare time both ways of a recent SoCal-to-Reno round trip (on consecutive Mondays), it was opportune to finally explore the former Paiute Palace Casino, now named Wanaaha, and it gradually achieved go-to casino status. It's attractive inside, moderately illuminated, and you don't get hit by a wall of smoke on entering. Smoking is allowed "only in the dedicated areas," says the casinos.us website. I found no such areas, and didn't ask. Wanaaha has some table games at the center floor, but these days I prefer penny slots in casinos, and ask only that the displays, game sound and control-button lamps be in good order, and that the cabinets are clean. Check, check, check and check. No ashtrays sitting on the control panels. This place is REALLY clean! I'd have no reservations (just *had* to do that) about trying any of the dining options, and plan to do so next time. On the northbound visit I browsed in the gift shop and chose an $8 (no tax) engraved-logo, weighted-bottom shot glass. On the flip-flop I became an Arrow Club member (bronze level), received slot-play credits for $10 and $5, and cashed out $10.20 (on IGT's "Kitty Glitter") when the combined ducats hit zero. I decided to leave Reno at 3am when there were no restaurants open for breakfast for the next 4 hours until I got to Bishop, with that said I pulled over to use the restroom without realizing there was a casino there with a full dinner and everything, I was in heaven with fresh ingredients and a calm relaxed atmosphere. When I've stayed in Bishop (where they often roll up the sidewalks at night) I've gone to the casino for a nighttime adult activity. The casino has a few table games and a respectable selection of contemporary slot machines. There is a bar and a restaurant. I haven't tried the food there. The cocktails and beer are reasonably priced. As with most casinos, the house generally prevails, and I consider my slot play entertainment. There is a small player's club which gives out $10 or so to new members. Overall, the employees I've encountered (including at the player's club where you'd think they'd at least try to be friendly) were indifferent at best. If you're staying at a hotel in town and want a late night activity, pop in to try your luck with gambling and grab a drink. read more

Reviewing for the gas station at this casino. We always stop here to refuel and to stretch our legs. The gas prices are always cheaper here. Often times, long lines of vehicles, especially RV's and trailers. The casino itself is small. The meal I had was GREAT and even the veggies were cooked better than some other steak houses I've been to. This is a great place to relax. The food is tasty, especially the shrimp scampi, and the calamari was excellent. We didn't play the tables, but, we did play the machines. There is quite a variety, of slots a few older machines, but, mostly all new. After about 15 minutes of playing, and not having much luck, the machines started paying off, and nicely I might add. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium rare. The kids shared the spaghetti and meatballs. The kitchen was kind enough to split it in half for them. Everyone enjoyed their food. Service was friendly and prompt even though they were short staffed- we heard two people called out. The restaurant itself was very clean and bright. Most Casino allow you at least 30 to 60 days to redeem your voucher, but 3 days... They offer no credits, etc. beyond the 3 days. You just totally lose your money in 3 days. Very unsatisfied patron. I visited the casino yesterday. I came to the casino for the Saturday Prime Rib dinner. My first visit to the casino and restaurant. Parking was easy. It's a small casino. I arrived about 5:30. Casino staff didn't seem very welcoming or friendly. I figured out how to play some video gambling games for a bit before going to dinner. The restaurant host and hostess were seated folding napkins. I approached as they didn't rise to greet me. They also were not very welcoming. Customer service doesn't seem to be their top priority. The restaurant has a cafe look. Then my server approached. She was very nice and has a great attitude. I ordered the Prime Rib medium rare. When she brought my meal; she smiled and said you will love this, and I did. The Prime Rib, fresh vegetables and loaded baked potato was very good. I'll be back next weekend. I would give the casino and restaurant hosts 3 stars last night. I give the server and dinner 5 stars. This morning, I realized I misplaced my hat somewhere last night, so I went back to the Casino to check lost and found. Not too many of the games I really like to play, mostly the Buffalo series, but they did have one version I have not seen anywhere else that was really fun while I was winning... not so much when I wasn't. We stopped here on the way to Lone Pine from Mammoth Lakes considering gas price is lower than in Mammoth ( it was around $5.25 a gallon in mammoth ). Here at the Casino , it was $3.75 or something like that. It's a cute little casino on the Paiute tribal reservation land in the town of Bishop , California off hwy 395, Eastern Sierra. There's a mini mart at the gas station. There's a casino next to it with a parking lot in between. Inside the casino , there's a bunch of slots and, way in the back there's a cute little diner. We had breakfast here and the pancakes were some of the best we've had. My boyfriend was even asking them what they put in the batter to make it so fluffy and tasty. He got two huge pancakes with fresh blueberries and some whip cream , eggs, sausages for $8. Great deal. I had a cup of seasonal fruits and a piece of English muffin. Everywhere you go , those things taste the same lol. Cut up cantaloupe , grapes , etc.. not the tastiest but what's a girl to do when she's on a diet ? Unfortunately this place is getting only two stars because we were greeted by a very rude person at the door a woman.She asked us if kahuna was a service dog and my husband was honest and said no just emotional support dog, she's like no he can't come in. So Bob explained that I needed to use the restroom and she goes she ain't going anywhere before she gets scanned. I was ready to leave at that point but I had to go potty so I stepped up to the scan and she's like take your glasses off move your bangs and then said look up there at a camera.
