The food had a great smoky flavor and was definitely the highlight of our visit. We came with friends that have come before :) Mac & Cheese - Creamy + cheesy Spud Bud - Really good lots of flavor BBQ - Tender with a very smoky taste. The reason I'm giving 3 stars is mainly because of the service. It wasn't horrible, but it also wasn't very welcoming. The staff wasn't the friendliest, and the overall experience could have been much better with warmer customer service. Good food can bring people in the first time, but great service is what makes you want to come back ! Overall, the food was worth trying, but I hope the service becomes a little more friendly in the future because the food is good.

We got the pork ribs, cole slaw and mac n cheese. All delicious. The ribs are tender and juicy after you get past the hard and dry surface that was exposed directly to the heat. Cute restaurant with a cabin theme. Service was alright. They do their job - take your order and bring your food out asap.

Sorry to say it but we thought Holy Smoke was pretty overrated. I can't help but wonder if some of the high ratings come from how remote it is given the options rather than the food itself. The barbecue wasn't noticeably better than what we've had at the chain Dickey's BBQ which is disappointing given the reputation on here and the price we ended up paying. The brisket was pretty dry even during dinner time and had no bark really. Then the loaded baked potato was also a surprise. It came topped with a large amount of diced yellow onions instead of green onions which if you have ever been to Texas and had BBQ out you know it is much more common, so that was weird. Also the shredded cheese was simply slapped on and wasn't even melted making it feel unfinished. The only good thing was their bbq sauce and the mac and cheese. It was creamy and the best thing we ordered. Overall we left very disappointed. We expected a much more memorable experience. given the ratings since we chose to come here over Copper Top.

Popped in for dinner and ordered the sampler platter. Tried 3 different meats: brisket, tri tip, and the regular sausage. For sides, I ordered baked mac and cheese and the beans. The meal also came with a piece of cornbread. The cost of the sampler is $28. Brisket had a decent bark, although im not certain both sides of the brisket was seasoned but it was pretty tender. The smoke on the brisket was pretty aggressive, leaving ALMOST a bitter taste. Thankfully, I like a pretty aggressive smoke. Nice smoke flavor on the tri tip but also seemed to lack seasoning. Was otherwise pretty good. The sausage ended up tasting pretty good! The beans might have been ever so slightly undercooked, but otherwise tasted good. The mac and cheese says it is baked, but honestly, its hard to tell aside from the burnt cheese on top. Other than that, it was alright. The best part of the experience was the servers. They were super friendly and regularly checked on the guests. All in all, the food was just ok. Not sure it would be my first choice in eating spots in town though, especially considering the prices.

There's a couple of BBQ spots in the area and so glad we tried this one! We tried the sampler platter with tri tip and brisket with baked beans and potato salad as our sides, since the mac and cheese was sold out (big bummer). Added a sweet tea as well! The platter also already came with the corn bread, so yummy! My favorites were the brisket and the baked beans, as they were on the sweeter side with pieces of pork in them. Each table also had a variety of sauces, I liked the original best and my boyfriend enjoyed the spicy one. They do have a system where you can't sit until you order and I like that as it keeps everything very efficient. Definitely a must try if you're in the area or heading to Mammoth!

Still the best! We stopped here on our way back from vacation and as usual all of the the meat was delicious. The macaroni is baked and has crunchy cheese crust on top. The sweet tea is yummy. I also enjoyed the cold potato salad. I would comment on the cornbread, but my husband ate it all :( We visited for a while with a lovely employee and agreed that stopping for dinner in Bishop is our smart vacation move

Who would've thought I'd find such good bbq otw to Mammoth. Ordered the sampler platter with brisket, tri tip and ribs. All of the meats were extremely tender! ribs fall of the bone. The tri tip was juicy and tender almost to the point where I thought i was eating the brisket, but then I had the brisket and that one literally melted in my mouth!

Sampler platter $28. Everything was delicious and perfect for my daughter and I to share

Everything was absolutely delicious!!! Service very friendly. Food came out quickly. Patio area is great if you're traveling with dogs. Will definitely come back whenever I'm passing through.

We were in Bishop around dinner time looking for somewhere to eat. We looked on Yelp and saw this BBQ restaurant had pretty good reviews. I love good BBQ and it's hard to find in California. My sister lives in the south and they have great BBQ, but we noticed they have tri-tip on the menu which is not a cut you find in the south, so we decided to try it out. There was a line to the door when we walked in. The line moved fairly quickly and we were still deciding what to order when we got to the front. My son only wanted Mac N Cheese. My sister and I decided to split a sampler with tri-tip, brisket, and hot link with mac N cheese, cornbread, and a baked potato. We found a seat and there a few BBQ sauces on the table. Our food came out within 5 minutes. The food looked great. My son who really only likes chicken for protein saw the tri-tip and thought it looked great. My son ended up eating as much as we did, he loved it. The tri-tip and the brisket were perfectly seasoned and smoked. They were some of the best I've had. The hot link, was good, but not my favorite thing. It was quite spicy which was fine, I didn't love the texture as much. The mac N cheese was good. The bakes potato was over cooked and the skin was a little tough and not edible. The cornbread was good. The sauces were quite tasty. I liked the spicy and even my picky son loved the spicy. Overall it was a very nice meal and the service was great. The employees were very friendly and welcoming.

Came here for dinner and the food was very good. The Mac and cheese is heavenly, and I could have gotten full on this alone. I got the tri tip sandwich. The meat was tender and fell apart in your mouth. There's nothing fancy about this spot (it's BBQ, kind of a given), but it was a good spot to meet with a group of people and have a yummy dinner. Service was whatever, otherwise it would have gotten 5 stars from me!

Called in an order as I was driving down from the lakes and it was ready by the time I got there. Ordered the sampler with brisket, ribs, and chicken along with cornbread, cole slaw, and potato salad. The brisket and ribs were really good. The chicken was on the dry side but that is typical with breast meat. The BBQ sauce was really good. The cashier up front was pretty nice. I would come back here again.

Tri-Tip Sandwhich at Holy Smoke Texas Style BBQ.
    Elizabeth S.

This is a great stop when traveling through Bishop. You order at the counter and then your food is brought to your table, so although I wouldn't consider it fast food, the service is pretty quick. I had the Tri-Tip Sandwhich. The Sandwhich is a generous size and it comes with one side. I tried the Coleslaw, which was really good and it made a good contrast with the BBQ flavor. At the table, there are also several BBQ sauces to choose from. My only gripe is that the bread wasn't toasted enough, so it got a little soggy, but the meat was tender and it had really good flavor. The restaurant itself is cozy and does have that rustic vibe you would expect from a Texas BBQ Restaurant.

This place is excellent. I haven't been in Bishop for over 35 years! Traveling through from Arizona to Chico. I decided to stop here. No regrets! I had the sampler platter 28 bucks! Tri-tip, brisket, and rib ribs. Came with two sides and a huge slab of cornbread! The ribs and the brisket do not need any sauce whatsoever. The smoke ring on both of them was perfect and gave it perfectly good smoked flavor throughout. Hopefully it won't take me another 35 years to swing through Bishop to try this again! Service was great you order at the counter and they take your food to you. Quite a good bottled beer selection.

Are the meats locally sourced ? They have so many farms around we only eat grass fed beef.

I don't know if they are, but I do know their food is delicious.

    The grills are outside?

They're smokers and they're located in the back. Not really visible.

What's the parking like? We have 3 motorhomeS with trailers attached

Not going to happen, but they have RV parking at Carl's Jr. Next to them.

Is any of the meat kosher or halal?

I'm sorry but no they are not

For a party of 9, do we need to make reservation or is it only walk-in bases?

    Walk in only

Are dogs allowed in the outdoor seating area?

Yes they are if they are friendly to folk and other dogs.

Good bakery, mediocre sandwiches, shitty service…read more It was a long line and wait before getting to the front of the sandwich line to order, which was understandable since it was lunch time. Once getting to the counter to order, the lady helping me didn't seem that pleasant. As a matter of fact, no one at the sandwich counter was smiling or seemed like they had a good attitude. I ordered a Turkey Club Sandwich and the BBQ turkey sandwich. Once my mom and I got to the register, it took a LONG time before the employee at the register (Ruiz) rang us up. She seemed like she was doing other tasks and had no urgency WHATSOEVER in continuing to help the next customer in such a LONG line. Once she finally got to the register, the first thing I did was point to the Turkey Club box to let her know it was Turkey club and she immediately CUT ME OFF and said, "I know what it is" and then a second later said, "oh I didn't realize there wasn't a label." She was incredibly SNAPPY and didn't smile, which ruined my day. Overall, I wasn't content with the service at the sandwich counter. The inadequate service plus the BBQ turkey sandwich to be BARELY adequate, was completely underwhelming. Later on, I went to the area with all the baked goods and was excited to see the vast selection! The ladies there were very warm, super forthcoming to help, and absolutely pleasant. Marie was incredibly patient with all my questions and requests for everything I picked out. I was happy with her service since she was very sweet and pleasant. In conclusion, if you're expecting phenomenal service from the sandwich counter, keep your expectations extremely LOW. You'll have better luck at the bakery.

My friend and I both ordered summer roll (pork and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) and spring rolls (shrimp and lettuce wrapped in rice paper) at $12 for 4 rolls. The Vietnamese owner lady was very nice and let us order them as a mixture of 2 spring rolls and 2 summer rolls as one order. Freshly made to order. They look and taste very "home made", also on the smaller side compared to what I'm used to (lots of Vietnamese restaurants near where I live), and these rolls do not come with rice noodles as many others I'm used to. All that aside, we took our very first bite a few hours later and my friend immediately felt stands of hard thin strings in her mouth, and spitting out SEVERAL STRANDS of short hair, which is not the same color as her own long hair. Shocking. Very shocking. My rolls were just fine with no foreign substances, however the more we eat the more we are getting grossed out from the encounter...she didn't finish eating that roll with hair in it and continue to eat 2 out of the 3 rolls left and so did I, since we were both very hungry and it was our only food option during the long journey, but the whole time we were getting more and more grossed out and none of us ate the 4th last roll in our order. Payment: She accepts credit card or Venmo, but any other form of payment besides cash would be an extra dollar of up charge. Instead of paying $13 for a $12 item, we decided to scramble for cash to pay her. A Mexican taco truck each to the left and right side of this Vietnamese food truck. Other: This lady owner says she's had her business here for 5 years now. Had wanted to try several items on the menu but already made a purchase with the taco truck to its right. Perhaps it's a good thing, because the sanitary and hygiene issue here is questionable. I hope she starts to wear a hair net when she preps food. I mean, I understand we all shred hair daily and she must of been working hard to chop the veggies and hand roll each spring roll...but we really don't need that evidence in the form of strands of hair in our food...
