Best Taiwanese pork chop over rice in Memphis!! I'm from NYC and I have yet to have this dish in TN. The dish is served with minced pork and pickled mustard greens. It would be great if it came with a boiled egg which is the traditional way this dish is served but I'm okay without it since the pork chop is so well seasoned. It's Huuuuuuge. I've also had their Beef noodle soup which is pretty good as well. I'll be back to try some more dishes but this place has enough stuff and also enough tables to fit your party. A side note: When we entered the parking lot two 20 ish women in a new huge grey Chrysler 300 started driving on the wrong side - the right - so we went left. Then they backed into a handicapped spot without the tag and entered before we did. We got a quiet table in the back while the women ordered carry out in front. When they got their order they complained and asked for a manager. The hostess left the cash register to get the owner and the duo grabbed the cash drawer and left. Police were using wifi out front and immediately boxed them in. Four patrol cars had them when we left with their lights flashing. What not to do while needing some cash... Don't drive an expensive new car with a paper tag, park illegally in a handicapped space, commit a robbery in front of many witnesses, be females with no purses and run out of a restaurant with a cash drawer..... The food.... Despite the distraction service is good but the food is mediocre at best. I had the ginger chicken and my husband the bok choy. Both were priced about $10.95 with small portion size. Wang's has a small authentic menu, and EVERYTHING ON THAT MENU IS FANTASTIC! Technically speaking, I believe those dishes were already on the regular menu for a while. But pointing those out in a separate menu is definitely VERY SMART. All the noodles on that menu is fantastic. The Zha Jiang Mein and Dan Dan Noodles are definitely somethings that you should try first if you're a beginner in authentic Chinese. For the beef noodle soup, ask for chili sauce and the Chinese pickled vegetables (that typically doesn't come with it) for the most authentic beef noodle soup experience in town. As for the pork chop noodle soup, ask for it over rice instead; that'll be so much more authentic. And the cold sesame noodles is great for a hot summer's day... okay, I'm making myself hungry again and I just ate! The spicy cucumber and the scallion pancakes are also as authentic as it gets, but the favors here are a little bit heavier for the novice. As for the shrimp wonton soup noodle, the only negative I would say about that is that Mosa is pretty close to here. And Mosa has got the best wontons in town. We have two really good American-Chinese places serving authentic items right nearby each other. Yeah?!? Thanks to the fire, decor wise, Wang's has definitely modernized. It's so good that I might take a date here! You will also find the most authentic tasting Chinese lunch buffet in town here. After realizing that it takes me less time to get here from work then it takes me to get to Wang's Express on Highland due to traffic despite being much closer, I'll definitely be checking into here more often. Well Memphis,TN is known for it's ribs but Beyond Benihana which is American Japanese tippenyaki/hibachi and a Chinese Franchise nearby called PF Changs. This Chinese restaurant is very good and delicious if not authentic! What surprises me more is that the natives do not know where to go for great authentic Chinese food especially Mandarin Chinese cooking. It is funny that a tourist from Chicago has to write a review on this but I just had to to give this place a good word if you crave for great Chinese Food. I have been to so many cities both here in the USA and some European towns to try Chinese food and it is so funny for a small southern city that is poor and has high crime rate would have such a hidden underrated gem for Chinese. Anyways it is buy a strip mall and has been there for quite some time. I asked any of the hotel staff that I stayed at Hampton Inn nearby if they knew where to find the best Chinese food and they had no clue. Thank goodness for having a mobile smart phone I was able to find one but I was apprehensive if 1st because I had been to certain cities (Like Minneapolis, MN) That had one Chinese restaurant near the Mall of America that has been there for years just to find out it was NOT as good as the natives say. But going back I was with 2 other family guests and that one guest was craving for great Chinese food as well as myself. I had walked in and was impress by the clean Chinese Inspired Ambiance despite that their aquarium had tetra fish instead of traditional goldfish either fancy or comets or Koi fish but Koi fish is Japanese decor than Chinese. We we're seated promptly by a staff member and had our menu placed. As I ordered I noticed one entree which too me is unusual to see in any Chinese entree. They had Lamb with Scallions or onions or onion leaves. Sounded delicious so I ordered that since most Chinese restaurants either use, Chicken, Shrimp, Pork or Beef.. My other guest had the Family Dinner which came with a choice of 1 main entree and one appetizer entree. They ordered egg rolls and a hot and sour soup. As our order came I was expecting bad tasting food but "WOW" it actually was good. The Hot and sour soup was not full of salt or MSG, The Fried Rice they brought out that my guest shared with me and among ourselves was tasty and not greasy like some Chinese Restaurants that deliver fried rice despite the portion size which was small and my lamb with scallions and my guest Chicken and broccoli in white garlic sauce tasted fresh and delicious. This place whoever comes to Memphis deserves the 4 stars. Reason why I could not give 5 stars was that despite the good Chinese food the portions for the fried rice was a bit small as I mentioned and there was some gnats flying around me out of nowhere when I was eating at our table. Other than that, do come here if craving for Chinese food. The reviews were true since this was on a food magazine rant in Memphis which is why I went here. I do wonder though with PF Changs how competition is? PF Changs is also expensive per entree and this place was reasonable. Just had a delightful dinner at Wang's...noticed there are two, this is the one just a block from Saint Francis Hospital on Park. Easy walk (literally, one block) from Marriott Courtyard, Hyatt Place and LaQuinta, or quick drive if it's cold, like tonight! Congenial waitstaff, very nice decor, food was hot and GOOD! Had the Chicken and Crispy Rice, plenty for two, full of chicken, water chestnuts, snow peas, and mushrooms. I think it was supposed to be thigh meat, but it seemed like it was the cut away pieces they were supposed to throw away, all the fat, skin, and knuckles, not the big chunks of meat that one would expect. I went as part of a large dinner party (around 20, with separate checks) and we used their private room. What was a little disturbing was that the orders were taken within a few minutes of each other but the first group literally finished their food and paid their checks before I got my food. Not sure if their kitchen is on the small side but the rest of the restaurant was less than half full and had substantial capacity so I can only wonder what they would do if they hosted a genuinely large banquet. read more

I actually left and was going to go next door to PF Changs but changed my mind and went back. I had the dinner special for 14.95 which came with soup, egg roll, rice, and an entree. I started with a bowl (not a cup) of wonderful egg drop soup followed by an egg roll. I'm not a huge huge fan of egg rolls.... to me they are a delivery device for hot mustard. Hot mustard---- 10 out of 10. One of the best I have had. I had the Kung Pao which was delish... it had more celery than I like but that is just my preference. I recommend! Eat local! This is some of the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I ordered "Seafood Hi-Lite" and egg drop soup. It turns out, the "highlight" were the crunchy crackers that go with the soup. The seafood hi lite was flat out awful: scallops with a funky odor, rubbery shrimp and IMITATION CRAB MEAT mixed with an over-abundance of vegetables in an oily patina of white sauce. I gave up after a few bites. They get two stars for quick service, but really this place should be avoided unless nothing else is open. read more

We were lied to about wait times. I was told it was 30 minutes for a table of three when in reality it was an hour and a half, just to get seated. From the time we ordered, it took an hour and a half for the food to actually arrive. I understand its Christmas day and its the only restaurant open in Memphis but 3 hours to get seated and for food to arrive at our table in a relatively small restaurant is absurd. We have a young child who was starving, and we are on the road, so finding something open on Christmas day alone was hard enough as it is. When our peking duck arrived, it was not hot, not even lukewarm. It was cold. It was disgusting! The fried rice my daughter ordered had an odor to it. So she refused to eat it. Waste of money. This is my favourite Chinese place in East Memphis. Sure it's right by a PF Chang's, but this is much more authentic, at least for Memphis fare. I've tried many dishes here: General Tso's, Sweet and Sour, but the Dragon and Phoenix is probably my favourite. It's a nice combo of spicy and not spicy, fried and sautéed, etc. Much less heavy than an entire plate of fried meat covered in a thick sauce, not that there's anything wrong with that. They do also offer delivery, and while I can't speak of it because I've never lived within the range they deliver, I did order delivery from their old downtown location, and always had a great experience with it and no issues. So my experience might not be totally valid, but I'd assume the same people run this location as did the downtown one, so I figured it's at least worth a mention. The staff is wonderful, too. First: the only reason this place gets a two-star was that their food was good. Everything else was well below par. Where to begin? I walked in and asked about sitting in the bar area. I was told by the hostess that I couldn't sit there. I agreed to be seated at a table. I went to the men's room and found that a) it was dirty, b) the door to the stall had no latch, and c) there was this strange 3-4" hole in the floor next to the toilet that I can only assume was some sort of drain pipe. Then the toilet was broken... Enough about the restrooms. I almost left, but decided that since they had "Best Chinese in Memphis" signs from a local weekly posted all over, I'd give it a try. After being seated, I ordered a glass of wine. The waitress acted hesitant and confused before finally agreeing to get me a glass of wine. As my wine was delivered, I saw several other people being allowed to go have a drink at the bar (which apparently was not closed). The food was good, but small portions for the price.
