Short Answer: We finished all our apps and our ramens before our first round of drinks. Long Answer: The service was prompt, our apps came out in record time too. We ordered the Tako Yaki (not pictured) which cane with a shaved slaw. The dough was cooked through with a slight crispiness. It was sweet and salty with the sauces. The mussels were clean with the red curry broth. Very rich and very spicy. The popcorn chicken came with some sort of aioli, pickles, and mustard, All three ramens were perfect too. My friends duck ramen was heavy on the spices with a strong sweet duck flavor from the broth. They serve it with a full confit leg on the side. I ordered the 30 hour ramen which, if you're upset about Kens closing, this ramen is a perfect replacement. My friend ordered the Miso Ramen which tastes like a more toned down version of the 30 hour ramen. We had a hankering real bad for ramen and the line for Ken's was out of this world so we decided to try Wara Wara. I must say as a back up ramen joint this place was pretty good! The appetizers were awesome! We got the cauliflower and the porks buns. I loved the cauliflower!! I seriously could eat a whole bowl of it! The pork buns were a good size, but not as tender as the Ken's pork buns. The ramen was pretty good. I got the roasted pork and my friend got the spicy ground pork. The ramen itself was good, but the roasted pork was okay, not a ton of flavor. The spicy ground pork was really good though and I wished I had gotten that! This place was not crowded at all on a Sunday afternoon and the parking was definitely much easier than Ken's. Next time info I will try different things, but my first time I thought was pretty good! read more

Don't bother with takeout. really, just don't. They are not set up for it. We just ordered on a Saturday evening. Our estimate given was 45 minutes. I walked in after 15 minutes, they had not started our food. I stood in the front for 30 minutes. And I just got home 90 minutes after ordering my food. So really: just don't bother with takeout they might be really good (we really like their food) but they prioritize people in the restaurant and don't follow through with their takeout commitments. read more

May have had something to do with the fact that the restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday evening so we were able to sit at a table rather than a bar. Service was just OK this time, which was a bit surprising given the empty state of the restaurant. I got the ramen burger and it was heavenly!! Definitely recommend!! The place itself is visually pleasing, but the food was terrible and the service was awful beyond words. We were recommended through a friend so we had high hopes, but we were left extremely disappointed and pretty much disrespected. We ordered the oyster sample, ceviche, tan tan ramen, and pork belly bun. The oysters tasted warm and as if it was frozen then thawed. The ceviche was a small portion and was not seasoned and dressed correctly. The ramen tasted as if it was from an instant noodle packet. The pork belly bun was decent though. The waiter did not pay any attention to us and didn't even ask how we were doing or asked if we wanted our check. He just brought us our check. When we asked where the origin of the oyster was, he said "Rhode Island" with a clear attitude in his voice. I could barely ask what part of Rhode Island it was from. He just walked away and ignored us. When we asked what kind of dressing the ceviche had, he said oyster sauce and ceviche sauce. That didn't make any sense at all. Overall: the service is trash, the food isn't fresh, and it's not worth the money. A huge disappointment. Bring your money and your kindness somewhere else. They don't deserve any attention. How incredibly disappointing this place was the second time around. I had high hopes from my previous experience but let me tell you, the experience of dining out consists of everything from the server to the food, right down to the libations. The sangria I ordered was practically cranberry juice. I had one sip and pushed it aside. The seafood ramen was bland, expensive (15.00), and a waste of carb real estate. I would have had a better bowl of ramen from a Maruchan packet for less than a dollar. The duck poutine was completely void of seasoning and not worth 12.00. In addition, the server lacked personality and failed at basic customer service. The lack of eye-contact and acknowledgement of barely eaten meals and full drinks coupled with his ignoring of a comment made that the food was a waste of 50.00 dollars should have been more than enough to illicit some concern on his part. When you ask your patrons how their food is, please do not immediately walk away, so you don't hear what they actually have to say. I was told to stay away from this place from a couple of friends but I needed to experience it firsthand. Lesson learned. Wara wara, you will never ever be what Blaze once was. Go away. read more

Was once my favorite restaurant, had I reviewed a year ago I would have given five stars. This year, its been nothing short of a mess. The food has come out cold, sloppily prepared, garnishes have lacked finesse and it just seems as if they no longer care about the simplicity of great food. The last two times, ive woken up physically ill. Im not sure is there is some sort of cross contamination going on in there or what, but the kitchen needs to deep cleaned to a higher standard. And, they are family friendly too boot, with a yummy selection of kids food that don't dumb down the palate. I'm slowly making my way through the menu, but so far have loved everything I've tried. It's also surprisingly hip for this side of town, which I appreciate. (Sorry this side of town....not meaning to offend. Love how gluten free friendly this place is. One of the few ramen/asian places that offer gluten free ramen. Been here twice on my two separate trips to RI. Once for lunch and once for dinner. I think I prefer lunch on a weekday because it is quieter and the lunch bento is such a good deal. Their salmon bento box came with salad, beansprouts, fresh cut pineapples, pickles and white rice. I'm not sure how they are able to provide such a great meal at $14. The gf ramen uses rice noodles (like wide pho noodles) but my gf allergic son was so grateful to have ramen. One of our dining party had the miso ramen with pork belly and he said it was very good. Deducted a point as I do feel servers should not wear strong perfume. I ordered the spicy edamame, takoyaki, spicy pork bun, 30 hour ramen, and duck thigh ramen. The spicy edamame was very flavorful and addicting. The takoyaki was well cooked and fresh. I am absolutely in love with those pork buns! Super soft bun and deliciously spicy pork belly! The 30 hour ramen was delicious and though I'm not personally fond of the seafood, they served pretty substantial portions of shrimp and scallops in the ramen. Now for the duck thigh ramen, I was slightly skeptical because I can't handle duck that is too gamey. However, I don't know how they did it but the duck was unbelievably soft and not gamey at all! Fantastically creative Asian fusion -- like eating jazz (but only if you love jazz). They make everything savory and umami-filled -- the best cauliflower dish I've ever eaten. Popcorn chicken that's my friend's favorite dish (and her parents are from China!) And a flight of ice creams in unusual flavors--is that not the best? I loved mine! My friends who are international students came to this restaurant the other day, and one of them forgot to say " Thank you" after he ordered his dish. The waiter became so pissed and he scream at the table "The first thing you learn when you come to this country is respect!" HMMM...Could you believe it? All my friend did was forgot to say "Thank you", which could happens to everyone when they have something in their minds. And what does it have to do with " When you first come to this country stuff?" When I heard about this, I thought that maybe the waiter just had a bad day and he cant wait to release his anger to someone he thought could be easily pushed around -- the international students! So we went back there again with some other friends after couple days to test whether it is DISCRIMINATION or the waiter just had a bad day last time. Well, the same waiter served us at the beginning and switched with a different server ( I did not know its on purpose or not), and when we got our bill, 20% of group tips was automatically added! We had only five people, and on their menu, only a party of 6 more will be applied with 20% tips. What can I say??? Maybe we ARE not welcomed by this place. What a shame! I had one bite of one of the scallops in his and it was sandy. Pass. Friend had the Miso Ramen and hated it. Actually said the $0.50 package of Maruchan Ramen was better. I had the special Duck Thigh Ramen. First of all, the duck was cooked horribly. Second, my broth tasted like dish water. Third, the duck breast was served on a side plate, whole. Awkward. Visited a second time around, this time during lunch with a coworker. Service was much better, something that may be attributed to a much smaller crowd (only two tables including ours). My past rating was mainly because of the experience I had with the service on my first visit which was very unpleasant as I felt completely disregarded. I recently received the Rhode Island Monthly for November and the cover grabbed my attention - "Cheap Eats, Going Global". My boyfriend and I recently said to each other - "I'm getting so sick of the normal restaurants that we go to, they're all the same - pizza, pasta, burgers. Let's start trying different restaurants around the state!" So, this magazine came in at the perfect time. Yesterday, during some down time at work, I decided to go through the magazine and do some research into some of these places. Take a look at their menu, ratings, reviews, etc! I narrowed it down to about 7 places that I wanted to try. Gave the boyfriend the list and he picked Wara Wara to start our "Global Eats" adventure. My first impression of Wara Wara was that, "wow! It looks like the owner of the place actually responds to and appreciates the customer's that come through his place of business by commenting on the reviews on both Google and Yelp. That's an immediate A+ in my book. We went to Wara Wara last night for date night without the kiddo. First impression of the place - it's so unique. From the atmosphere, the dim lighting and the awesome light fixtures. We were immediataly greeted by one of the servers as soon as we walked in, and proceeded to take us to our seat. Talk about choices on that menu! I didn't know where to begin! I wanted everything. From the cauliflower to the calamari and the pork belly buns - jeesh. Give me it all! Our server was VERY informative of everything on the menu and helped us along since it was our first time there. She gave us her favorites, as well as the popular items on the menu. I started myself out with a carafe of Hot Saki, because, why not?For our appetizers, we ended up with the Pork Belly buns (OHMYGOSHH, delicious! Where can I get those buns at?!), the hanger steak (I think that's what it is called, which also was delicious) and I got the special - Soft Shell Crab deep fried in a tempura batter with a coconut curry sauce (my mouth is currently watering again). Everything was so good. We both ended with Ramen for dinner - I got the Chicken Shio Ramen with bok choy added and it hit all the right spots on a cold, rainy RI night. My boyfriend got the Tan Tan Men since they had ran out of duck (he really wanted that one). He's not a HUGE pork fan, but he said it was delicious, despite the overly pork taste. I of course always save room for dessert at any new place we go, so I took my ramen in a to-go container and decided on dessert. It was a hard choice between the specials on the board (some sort of homemade caramel ice cream with salt, etc), the green tea molten lava cake or the red rice pudding. I wanted all three, but of course could only fit one after dinner -- so I went with the Green Tea lava cake (I read a review that said you couldn't go wrong with this dessert, and boy was that review right!) So, all in all, we left Wara Wara with full bellies and a great new place to choose from for future date nights! Wonderful service, wonderful atmosphere and great food! I am so excited about this restaurant I don't even know where to begin. The fact that it's a five-minute walk from my house had me buzzing with anticipation as they were renovating and preparing for opening; then they finally opened and I jumped at the first opportunity I could go. The interior space is gorgeous. They have done such a beautiful job transforming the dated and dreary interior into something exciting, interesting and current. The service was impeccable -- warm, friendly, helpful and attentive. Our server even helped me pick out what ramen to have, which was very sweet and on-point. I started with the crispy kale salad, which is PHENOMENAL. The flavors are so colorful, bright, fresh and forward, I am going to go on record as saying that this is the best salad I've ever had. An incredible combination of fresh greens, herbs, and fried kale combined with a garlic-chili-lime dressing had me (and my one-year-old) gobbling this thing up our of sheer pleasure. It's fabulous! I followed that up with the pork bun -- sweet, tender, juicy and delightful. The pork was cooked perfectly; I felt like it was dissolving in my mouth with only the slightest bit of chewing, and the honey-miso sauce was succulently sweet and a perfect pairing with the tangy kimchee topping. Two come in an order, and believe me, you'll eat them both. My ramen of choice was the sesame chicken, which was delicate, slightly sweet and very well-balanced. The noodles are perfectly-cooked and beautifully tender, and the mushrooms balance the sweet broth well with their earthy, umami flavor and slightly meaty texture. The service was, as I mentioned, great. Not only were they attentive and kind, but they were great with my small daughter, which is alway so appreciated. They have a nice beer list, including a few Hitachino picks which I highly recommend pairing with your pork buns (the sake barrel-aged one is particularly good). All in all, a truly fantastic spot that I know I will be frequenting time and time again. read more
