Overall a pretty good experience. Very friendly and attentive waitstaff. The atmosphere is casual and fun, as is the decor and ambience. Tried a bunch of the tapas: Favorites were the Brussel Sprouts and chicken skins except the portion is quite small even for a tapas menu. The eggplant was delicious as well, and the pork buns were just on par. The bun could have been steamed longer and the meat could be more tender, but pretty good for Providence, slightly below Kens. Also tried the spicy edamame, and chicken thighs, both were good, but not worth the dough. The pork sausage sounded good but the consistency of the meat was not appetizing, and the casing was tough and crunchy. The Ramen is a bit too fusion, why mess with a good thing. Similar options as their sister restaurant Ebisu. Good choice of alcohol including a rarity Orion from Okinawa (sure some former marines will enjoy that) and a good selection of sake. For those in the know of amazing Japanese keep looking, but this is still a fun hangout with decent grub. read more

My husband and I love Hope Street. We'd seen this place and heard good things, so for our anniversary we stopped and had dinner. I cannot say enough how much we both loved this restaurant. The decoration is cute. Modern, with--robots. Yes. Robots. Service was really prompt and friendly. They have all the regular stuff on tap, decent wine selection. The menu is small, but that is always a good sign to me, because it means they know what they're good at and stick to it. We got the pork belly bun as an app. I thought the sauce was a little overly sweet, but the pork was delicious. The texture on the buns was perfect. My husband and I both got a different flavor of ramen, so I tasted both the tan tan men and the miso ramen. Both were delicious. The broth is rich, the noodles perfectly cooked. This is probably the best ramen I've had in Providence so far. We capped off our meal with a green tea lava cake, which is actually more like a slightly warm cake with green tea jelly in the middle, accompanied by ice cream and whipped cream. It was not too sweet, good flavor and wrapped up the whole meal flavor-wise perfectly. Price was excellent for the quality of the food and service. I live right down the street and have been dying to try this place for a while now. The waitstaff was super friendly and our waitress gave many awesome recommendations. The food was OUTSTANDING! We started with the veggie bun which was perfect for 2 people to share and they were super flavorful. For the entree, I ordered the roasted root vegetable udon; I ate the entire bowl because it was that good! One of our faves in Providence!!! The ramen is about the best I've had for the state. If you're looking for good ramen in the Providence area, just stop reading and go!!!! 30 hour ramen is well worth the money for the creamy broth with seafood. The chicken and miso ramen is also good. If you're lucky, they have shishito peppers for appetizers!! These are not to be missed! We also love the beef tongue apps and mushrooms. The have great Japanese beer on tap and in bottles. I tried the pork belly buns and the miso ramen. My companion had the tan tan men. Taste wise, we did not see any problems initially. The pork belly was soft and tender and the buns were perfectly steamed. The ramen was chewy yet firm. The problems began a few hours later. Stomach cramps and terrible indigestion. I prayed to be spared, or for the sweet mercy of defecation. I defecated without relief. 15 hours later, I still feel stomach twinges. Searched Yelp for a new ramen spot and found Wara Wara. I have driven by many times but never eaten there or even looked at the menu online...weird. Went on a Friday night before 6:00 and was quickly seated. The atmosphere is so good, loved the design aesthetic. We got the crispy cauliflower as an appetizer - VERY good! The ramen (we got the Shio and the vegetable) - both were good and filling. The crispy brussel sprouts were good but the sauce that had collected in the bottom of the bowl was strong (not in a good way) and the Japanese popcorn chicken was ok. I cannot gush enough about this place. My dinner partner and I wandered in on a total whim, having no idea what to expect. The ambiance is hip and funky, but with a down to earth family friendly vibe (there were at least 3 families with kids when we came). The meal was huge, satisfying and affordable. We started with the lotus root poutine, which was a totally happy surprise. Tasty lotus fries were covered in duck gravy, giant chunks of duck, tender mushrooms, and two soft cooked quail eggs. We are huge poutine connoisseurs and we both agreed this was one of the top three best takes on the classic we have ever had. Next was the bok choy app, which was somehow meaty and hearty despite being vegetarian. My buddy got the fried chicken skins with pickles and polished them off so fast I didn't have a chance to try them - clearly they were pretty good (will have to order them again next time). We shared a veggie ramen, which was the right way to go because they are HUGE! The fixings are all done perfectly, including a delicious soft cooked egg. I'm not typically the biggest noodle fan, usually preferring broth and veggies/meat, but I made an exception here because the noodles (we got the GF option) were al dente, savory and flavorful. We polished off the soup with just enough room to share the Sakura Mochi - sweet rice wrapped in cherry leaves. Wasn't my thing, though it wasn't bad at all. My dinner buddy loved it and declared he would eat it next time too. Already planning our next trip - can't recommend the place enough. Seeing such positive reviews maybe I should give this place another shot, but my first time here left me feeling unsatisfied. We ordered a few appetizers, the eggplant was delicious, but the kale was almost too salty to touch. I ordered the ramen burger, it seemed like something tough to get elsewhere and was thoroughly disappointed. The meat was hardly seasoned and over cooked and the flavors of the rest of it just didn't seem to mesh well. Even the chips it was served with were undercooked and soft. Tried a bunch of dishes here that we really liked. The fried cauliflower was sweet and crunchy. The brussel sprouts were soy lime. The mushrooms had a richer sauce that was good. I really like the variety of the dishes and how unique each one tasted. The ramen was good. I did not have the ramen burger but it looked good and the person who had it said they wanted to come back for takeout every week for that burger. I'll get to the bottom line: this place is good but not amazing. First, there's an odd smell to this place (at least being seated at the bar). We started with the brussel sprouts and eggplant. I thought the brussel sprouts were okay and the eggplant was delicious. My husband thought it was the other way around. We then had the pork belly buns --- now those were amazing! And then we each had ramen. Both were okay. I thought the egg in the ramen was sweet flavored and gross, my husband liked it. Also, I got the spicy miso one but it wasn't spicy at all! They gave me chili oil to help remedy that. And we ended with dessert -- miso donut with ice cream (choose either vanilla or green tea) -- I also found this absurdly delicious. What a wonderful addition to hope street! Very cool and comfortable atmosphere, that has appeal for everyone. A cute bar with various Japanese nick nacks, a ramen bar where you're upfront and center at the kitchen, along with standard dining room seating. I had the Sesame Chicken ramen. I came here for the ramen. I will say I didn't expect not to like it. Which I don't think is Wara Wara's fault. I think I was just expecting a different taste. I didn't get that Naruto stuff down feel for the ramen. The dish looked very fresh and had a great vibe to it, but I just think I'm not a ramen person. Their apps though - I got the pork belly buns and fried chicken skin... Amazing. I enjoyed my visit and my food. I had the Taiwanese popcorn chicken and a bowl of miso ramen, both of which were very good; the chicken was actually excellent. I recently have been watching a lot of Youtube videos about food in Taiwan so I was happy to see this item - the presentation was cute (a spilled over red and white takeout container on a board) and it really did live up to the expectation that it would be juicy and crispy with a good bit of salt and pepper. The ramen was well within my wants and needs as well; the broth was excellent. Their menu is a very good take on Asian fusion as some things appear very traditional with tweaks and specials to others. I saw everything from okonomiyaki to halo halo and I think I'll be back to see and try more. The vibe was casual and quiet as it was relatively early in the evening; I received prompt and friendly service though it did start to get busy later into the less early-bird dinner hours. I'm knocking one star off because I asked about something to drink with my meal that wasn't water or soda and was told "Hmm...I don't know". Now, I'm not anti-alcohol, but a lemonade or fresh-juice beverage item on the beverage menu would help. Also, although the addition of a K-drama playing on the screen during my meal was kind of cute, the second movie was actually kinda violent as well as explicit. Kinda like the time I had to ask to move at another place where I couldn't avert my eyes from the zombie movie that was playing while I was eating. Just my .02... Last night, too, I was struck by something: it *really* bugs me about food in Providence that the prices seem to reflect some sort of upmarket disdain for real-world pricing. I've been to this restaurant a few times since its opening. When they first opened, everything was great! The last couple of times the service has been atrocious. Nobody seemed to know who our server was. It took about 15 minutes for anyone to come take our order, and that was AFTER we stopped someone and asked who was taking care of us. When someone finally came over to take our order, she basically just said "are you ready?" and stood there smiling. One of our appetizers was either not put in by the server or the kitchen lost it. Not sure. But when our entrees arrived and we mentioned it, the appetizer showed up a few minutes later with not a word of apology or explanation. All of the food was absolutely delicious, which was the only reason I gave two stars. I would give zero stars for the service. The owner needs to revamp the front of the house, for sure. read more

My fiance and I went to wara wara last night and it was fabulous. The inside is intimate and detail oriented without feeling cluttered or busy. They have some interesting cocktails. We tried the Mexican Samurai, which was delicious and a hot sake/ disarono mixture which we both loved. Our food was impeccable. We had lobster buns, pork buns, crispy cauliflower, chicken ramen, pork and miso ramen. All of which was filling, interesting and absolutely delicious. I really loved the interior and set up of this place, very cute! The servers were friendly and good. I was disappointed by the food however. I got the vege ramen which was pretty good, can't complain. Others at my table got the chicken tapas which came out on a cute display but had a texture similar to jello... another meal ordered was a different ramen that had chicken in it, this chicken was rubbery and a very unpleasant texture.
