We gave Waraii another shot after a long break. The waitstaff and sushi chefs are super nice and outgoing. The sushi quality has really improved, I think. The yellowtail (hamachi) nigiri we received was closer to yellowtail belly and they gave us a bonus piece (!). The mackerel nigiri and escolar nigiri was both excellent as was the protein roll. Came here and there was only one other table in there besides us. It took the waitress 7 mins to come to the table to even ask for our drinks. It took them so long to bring our ramen we had to tell them to make it to go because we had somewhere else to be. The golden California roll was ok and the salmon maki was good. Whenever we crave sushi, this is our go to spot. We usually call in to place an order for pick up, takes about 15 mins. It is a small place and I feel that they have efficient service. Right when I walk in, I am greeted by the usual Japanese word by the waitress and two Japanese sushi chefs. Lemon drop: lemon and salmon always go well together. Lovely Gloria: lovely indeed. Thinly sliced avo atop the roll is tasty and eye catching. This was a decent sushi place. It wasn't busy at all when we went in. The server was nice and attentive. The rolls were really good. We tried some unconditional special rolls. Some with cheese on top and baked.. I was hesitant at first, but it ended up very tasty! We got spicy mayo with our rolls and it wasn't what I was used to. They mix it with hot sauce making it extra spicy - not my forte, but my boyfriend loved it! I'm sure we'll be back defini here again for another date night. read more

Not only is the food always consistent and delicious, the staff and atmosphere are just as great. We sat at the very back and could see into the kitchen/dish area not very appeasing to be next to. Definitely could've added a door or whole curtain. So we went on and ordered the deep fried spicy tuna roll, it was okay definitely very fishy in taste. The Auntie Mary roll, super disappointing. I'm fairly certain the California roll on bottom was refrigerated because of how cold it was and the rice wasn't fresh. The crawfish on top was overly coated and tasted of oil.... Amazing lunch as always, especially now that we are able to enjoy sitting on their patio. One of the dishes, that I usually order didn't come out as it was usually prepared. We stopped in here for the first time on Friday for lunch. We had the Golden Cali, the Lovely Gloria, the Teriyaki Beef bowl and the lunch Sashimi platter (six assorted fish with miso soup, salad and a Spicy Tuna Roll), along with a pitcher a Sapporo ($14) and some hot sake. Everything was very good but my favorite was the Golden Cali. Wow that was good. I want to try the Aloha roll next since it's "#1" on their little list of the top ten rolls. Service was okay, but a little slow. A couple of times our server forgot to bring out things we asked for (napkins, extra chopsticks and our hot sake). Food is a little pricey I think. Total came out to $70 with tip but we had a lot of stuff and it wasn't happy hour (do they even have a happy hour? I don't think so) The layout of the restaurant is a little strange due to how narrow the space is. But they had TVs and music playing in the background which is nice. I don't like visiting places that are super quiet...feels like going to church. I'd return to Waraii. I think they might just have the best rolls around here (compared to Go Go and Sushi4Reel). Haven't tried Cafe de Thai's sushi yet (they are right around the corner) so we'll have to try that next but for me right now Waraii gets 4/5 stars (minus one for odd layout and slower-than-necessary service, and plus four for the SUSHI). read more

Delicious! Ordered shrimp and vegetable tempura appetizer and everything was so crispy and delightful despite it being boxed for takeout. The California roll and beef bulgogi we ordered were also so tasty. Two thumbs way up! Would also like to comment on the service. A+ in a time when that's hard to find. I initially ordered the tempura and roll separately and the nice young man said he would make it a combo to save me some money. My friends and I came here to check out a new sushi place. The service was good. The place has seating for maybe 30. Our sushi was good but not outstanding. One on the nagiri items I purchased was scallops. The scallops were ok, but not great. They were the tiny thumbnail size instead of slices of nice fresh, large scallops. This used to be our favorite sushi joint to come to since it's close and easy for us to get to, not to mention the food is pretty good for the price. Today however, they lost my business and I'll start looking for a new place to take the family to when we want sushi. I placed and paid for an online to-go order almost 3 hours prior to my scheduled pick-up time, but when I arrived they hadn't even started to make my order. It's not like they were waiting for me to get there and pay before they prepared the food like some places do since I paid online. They straight up dropped the ball and missed the order. They're great at greeting you and telling you they'll see you tomorrow when you leave. Maybe focus more on actually preparing food than saying Hi and Bye.....just a thought? Instead of waiting another 30 minutes for them to put the order together, I had them just cancel the order and had to figure out something else to bring back home to my family. My favorite sushi place for years, pretty much since it opened in its previous smaller location. The quality, taste, and freshness is always consistent. I don't even live in Oceanside anymore but whenever I'm close I make an effort to stop by. The Lovely Gloria is bomb and I don't even like tuna that much. There's definitely been quite the rotation of waitresses here, but service has been decent as far as I can remember. A few major things to note: 1. The wasabi is so weak, like I had to request a blob of it to just give my sushi a kick. 2. The quality of the fish did not taste light and buttery, but dense and not fresh which means it's old. 3. The rice was super hard and just made everything taste mediocre. The cuts of fish have gotten very thin, and rolls are smaller, compared to what they used to be, but the prices have gone up. Now a days, it's sticky tables, watching a bunch of to-go orders get taken care of while you wait at a table without even a menu to look at. Long wait to order at the table. Seems like they are more likely to take good care of a to-go order than someone that physically shows up to enjoy a meal. There is better sushi around. My issue was the amount of fish on the rolls. The rainbow roll had the thinnest pieces of meat I've ever had on a roll. The salmon sliver literally broke in half when I pulled it off the top of the roll to get a better look. The ratio of Krab to eel in the caterpillar was about 9 parts Krab to 1 part eel. Salmon skin hand roll had the least amount of salmon skin for one of the pricier ss hand rolls I've had. One and done for this place. read more
