Generally I would have nothing but good things to say. The sushi is usually good and prices are very reasonable. Went there on Sunday at 6:30 pm. The two waitresses were overwhelmed which made for an uncomfortable dinner. They seemed rushed and upset when you asked for anything... Generally more ginger and wasabi. We wanted to order a garden salad and they were out. Out of lettuce?? Ralph's is right next store. The Lovely Gloria roll and spicy tuna hand roll were good. The restaurant has a nice fusion between modern and traditional Japanese design. The menu is rather large, leaving me with an uncomfortable amount of choice in what I wanted to eat. Luckily, the lunch special menu, a single page, caught my attention, and I was able to chose a two roll special without having to gloss through the other, ginormous, menu. For lunch time meals it is crucial that there be a simple, quick way to dine, and Waraii Sushi provided that. As far as food goes, I ordered a Philadelphia roll and a Dragon roll, and I played about $12. The flavors were good, but not amazing. I enjoyed my meal but was not blown away. I get the Cali roll and spicy tuna , nothing fancy but it is good and filling :) I've tried the eel here as well and it's not up to par so I won't be ordering it here again even though it's my favorite:( the noodles are good too read more

This place rocks. My husband and I used to eat there before they moved to this nice large restaurant back then it was a bit small and cream but very good. Now they have a nice big comfortable restaurant they're busy but not too busy that you can't get a seat whenever you want and their food is super yummy. The fish is always nice and fresh and the help is super friendly. The owners always recognize us and are always nice sweet. If you're looking for a new sushi place this place is great. read more

So tonight I was craving sushi when I got off work, I work in the food industry as a server so it was 8:35 and Waraii closes at 9 p.m. from what is states on Yelp and on their hours they have posted outside their restaurant. When I called to place an order, at 8:35, I was told they no longer were taking orders. I asked if I could come in being I was only 5 minutes from the restaurant and just wanted to give them a heads up for my order, I was then told they weren't taking food orders anymore. I asked why and was then was hung up on. I understand it's not fun to have people come in last minute to make orders that keep you later than closing, but there is a reason for a closing time. If you don't want to take orders 20 minutes before closing, close at 8:40. read more

I eat sushi a lot, probably way more than I should. Usually once a week (sometimes more) and definitely at least a couple times a month. Waraii Sushi is my new go to spot. It is absolutely knock your socks off good. I'm actually surprised it only has 4 stars. I've tried a large handful of different sushi dishes and each one has been amazing. Sushi special rolls were mediocre. Most rolls only had one type of fish on it or shrimp in the middle. I like fresh rolls with cilantro, lemon, and multiple fish. We ordered a spicy baked roll and it was seriously a bunch of sirarcha (which I love) but it didn't have any other flavor and didn't settle right with just one bite. My husband felt the same way. The customer service was great and the chefs were friendly but they need a better variety and rolls with more flavor in my opinion. Probably won't come here again. read more

Unfortunately, my experience last night was pretty poor. I placed an order for pickup which they said would be ready in about 20-25 minutes. I drove from Fallbrook to Oside to pick it up (which took about 25-30 minutes). When I got there they informed me that my order would still be about 25 more minutes!!??! They weren't even that busy when I got there either so I was a bit puzzled as to why it was going to take almost an hour for my food. After waiting about 5 minutes I politely asked the waitress if I could get my food a little sooner otherwise I would just cancel the order seeing as I didn't intend on waiting around so long. Without any hesitation, the waitress told me she would cancel my order & I could leave. I was absolutely floored that I wasn't even given a simple apology. I realize that "things" happen but they didn't care what-so-ever to try & rectify the situation nor were they even remotely apologetic. They could have called to inform me it was going to take longer. They could have probably expodited my order or at least offered a simple apology. I had been coming to this place at the old location for a few years but seeing as I already make the drive from Fallbrook, seeing as there is a sushi restaurant on almost every corner, & seeing as they obviously don't want my business, I don't know that I will be returning. I just drove down the street to Love Boat Sushi instead & gave them my $90 pick-up order. read more

This is a great little inexpensive sushi place close to home. Good, fresh preparations - great variety in both sushi and sashimi. They do have other options on their menu as well. We tried them once before they moved to their new location - and were hooked right away. At the new location, the food is just as good - and it seems there is more seating, and it's even closer to home. Waraii Sushi is perfect for what it has to offer, quaint (which I prefer) though never crowded even at the time I come between 1-2 pm. I have been eating sushi mainly in Hawaii and San Francisco, places I lived and the edamame and California hand roll will beat and or equal any fine Sushi Bar.There is a sushi bar area also. Their baby doll rolls are amazing! My aunt drove to Oceanside and on her way back she got some rolls to go and when she got to Irvine the rolls were still very fresh! The sauce was super good and the scallops were perfect! It came with eel sauce too and it made it extra good! Their crunch California rolls were good as well! Here is why I will not be patronizing Warraii again. We've eaten there several times over the last year and a half of living nearby. Most of those orders were avocado rolls, which were always tasty, with good avocado, albeit pricey for what we got. We ordered from there about a month ago and were given a twenty minute wait time for pick up, which is when I arrived. 45 minutes after placing the two-roll order (with fish, not just avocado) I finally got it, all the while watching plate after plate of food go out to the dine in customers. When we got the rolls home and ate them, one tasted off, wasn't good, but it wasn't worth the trip back. Tonight, I decided to give them another try and ordered two different rolls for pick up. Timing was fine, but when we got the rolls home, all of the albacore on both rolls had black flecks in it. I drove back there to ask for my money back. The first waitress I told why I brought it back told me it was pepper! I told her it wasn't pepper, as it was IN the sashimi, not just on the surface, and why would there be pepper on only the albacore? She went and got the next waitress (manager?), who I also showed the fish. Her first response was that it was probably seaweed from when they were making it. Nope. I told her and showed her that it wasn't on the surface, it was IN the sashimi. Then she said it was from when they seared it, because with albacore it made it easier to break up. Whhaaaa? This is sashimi. It isn't seared. I told her I just wanted my money back and she said she could give me my money back, but wanted me to know that the fish was fine and started asking me to come look at some fish behind the glass. I told her I wasn't interested in discussing it and finally she refunded me. They have lost two customers. read more

My wife and I found Waraii Sushi by accident and have been enjoying GREAT Sushi here at least 2-3 times a month for more than a year. The place recommended to us was closed and we stumbled across Waraii Sushi and we're so glad we did. The food is always fresh and the service is always top notch. Our favorites are the Sombrero Roll, Lovely Gloria, Tangled Mango and Uncle Rudy with diced jalapeno added (they have NEVER refused to do that). Just writing this review is making me hungry. May not be 110% authentic, but it is 110% good!!! love the food, people are friendly. Place is a little dirty (stains, probably old?, but the do wipe the tables) very very small.
