    Salmon Rice Bowl

I've been to Tokyo's Yokocho alley and loved it! This place in Torrance did an amazing job replicating the vibe and decor. I love all the lanterns. We came for lunch and it wasn't crowded. We were seated right away. Our server was friendly and attentive. She walked us through the ordering process which was done on a tablet. Our food was tasty and we definitely ordered more than enough. I really liked the combo meals; such a great deal with so much food. I had the Ginger Pork combo. It came with a bowl of rice, miso soup, salad, cucumbers, and some dried fish (so good) The Tonkotsu Ramen was yummy as well. The Ramen was fresh and not chewy. My favorite was the Salmon bowl. Something so simple but so flavorful and fresh. I will definitely come back when I'm in Torrance again.

Felt like I transported back to Japan!! My friends and I came here on a Saturday night for dinner. We had a reservation so we had our own private booth area with a curtain. The Yuzu sours were delicious! I saw they have a frozen one too - definitely would try it next time. I got the ume ochazuke - was warm, comforting, delicious! We shared the gobo chips - these surprised me! I like the texture and enjoyed the salty seasoning on it. We also shared the salmon sashimi bowl & the pork - bean sprouts stir fry dish. They also have a game where you can stop the clock at 10 seconds and if it is exactly at 10, you get your whole meal for free! There's also mini games to order to the table to play while you wait for your food. The food is a bit pricy for but I feel like a large part of it is the ambiance / experience. Would recommend!

TL;DR - really REALLY cool interior decor. Food was so-so, sometimes on the salty side. Would still come back again though. The 10 second challenge was so fun! This is a really cool place if you're a fan of traveling to Japan or Japanese culture. The interior decor is REALLY cool. They've designed the place to look like the street markets of Japan. If you've ever visited Tokyo or any major city in Japan, it is common to find many small side streets lined with stalls that serve food. So if you're looking for a place with wonderful ambiance and visuals, then this place should be near the top of your list. The service was decent and they were really polite. Now the down side. This is consistent with the previous reviews I've read. They've dialed up the salt for some reason. The food was so-so. The takoyaki was smaller than normal and the bonito flakes up top weren't waving around as they usually do upon arrival. It was still good though and I happily ate them all. The salmon nigiri was okay. The gobo chips were a little on the salty end. The chips were paper thin when they normally are a little thicker from my previous experiences. We got the teppan butakimuchi teishoku (grilled pork with kimchi set meal). There was a good amount of food on there but the taste was also just okay. A little on the salty side. I think part of our experience was tarnished from reading the previous reviews before we decided on eating here. With the right crowd, mood, and level of hunger, I'd enjoy this place even more. But I LOVE the interior decor lol OH! And at the end of your meal... they have the 10 second challenge. It was so cool and fun. If you can stop the counter at the 10.00 second marker, then your entire meal is free. Good luck!

What a great eating experience! And the food was great too! Torrance Yokocho is unique in that the inside of the restaurant replicates the narrow, lantern lit, streets of Japan. Whether through Yelp or visiting the restaurant's website reservations are recommended. I made mine easily for a Wednesday night, for two. I would suggest that if you're planning on a large party outing, you should consider a reservation. Anyway, my friend and I arrive and were seated in a little booth and the server walked us through the process of ordering. Super easy to do on the kiosk provided. We scrolled through the menu and selected a variety of appetizers, sushi, and a rice dish. What's great about the kiosk is you can order at your leisure. The wait staff was great. They checked on us during the ordering process to make sure we were doing okay, came by to check on us in general, and were just super attentive. After the server explained the ordering process she hydrated two hot towels for our use, what a lovely detail. The food was so good! I've read through some of the other reviews which mention "salty" but I'd disagree. I didn't think the food was over salted but appropriately salted. For example, we ordered the mini cha su bowl and the pork was salty, but that's what I expect from pork belly. For us, one of the stars of our meal was the Japanese yam with garlic soy sauce. The texture was unique and the garlicky flavor was amazing. I think you have to like pickled things to appreciate this. We ended our meal with dessert. I had the coffee jelly with vanilla ice cream and my friend had the taiyako with vanilla ice cream! Will definitely be back!

I recently met some friends for dinner here and am so glad we tried this spot! It was delicious! We were easily able to make a reservation in advance and were quickly seated upon arrival. The menu is digital from a screen at your table and it's really easy to browse all of the options. We ended up ordering items as the meal continued and everything came out promptly. The kids were really excited about the toys you could order to have brought to the table! Such a nice touch. I opted for the Yuzu cocktail and loved it! Another in my party ordered the grapefruit cocktail, which requires you squeeze the grapefruit juice in your own- warning. I loved the hot udon and the dragon roll. The menu is pretty extensive with so many options. The kids loved the edamame. Parking was super easy! Lots of spaces right nearby. They have a fun "10-second challenge" where if you can get a time to land exactly on 10:00, the restaurant covers your check. Such a fun end to our evening!

Food was outstanding, everything is ordered on an ipad Service was good, and food came out quickly after order is placed. We had a private booth wich had a little curtain for privacy.

Vibes/ decor was cool. Food not so much, kinda average. 50% off yakitori on wed. Selection was quite limited. Yakitori was just okay. Both beef and chicken were kinda dry. Karaage was good, crispy chicken on the outside, juicy inside. Fries were okay, went well with an extra side of garlic mayo. We also ordered a tuna roll (not pictured) which wasn't great. Missing crunch texture, rice was mush and the entire roll tasted like it was premade and had been sitting out for a while. We didn't end up finishing the roll. I can see this being a fun hangout for a couple of drinks and some snacks but probably a pass if the food is a main priority. Ordering is done through iPad and service is pretty quick.

Had been planning to come here ever since it opened! I've been to the "real" Tokyo Yokocho alley which is super duper cool - and this place here in Torrance does an amazing job to replicate the vibes and feels of the real deal! We had both the shoyo and spicy versions of the tonkotsu ramen and a ginger pork dish. All were really great. The ramens were as good as any I've had in Torrance or Gardena for sure- although was a little sad there was no egg...? The piece of pork though was really large and succulent! It was a big one piece though - I was kinda missing my Korean scissors...!?!? Same with the ginger pork dish- delicious - but served on large strands a good 5-10 inches long and thick - needed cutting or something very awkward eating with just chopsticks? The included sides of tofu with chili sauce and picked cucumber were perfectly seasoned. The booths were comfy and felt so private with the curtains. Ordering was easy with the iPads and the staff was super sweet and friendly and helpful. We had complimentary green tea at the end - a nice little treat to end the meal. If you can't get to Tokyo anytime soon - get yourself here to Yokocho!

First of all the essence of this place and service here is immaculate. The servers were awesome and attentive. I didnt get to try the ramen but I will next time I heard its great. We went with a more family style where we shared small plates. The star of the show was the tempura shrimp amd squid that comes with a tempura sauce that has freshly grated ginger and daikon radish. Also liked the little fun game they had at the end where your meal is free if you land exactly on 10.00

My husband and I split 5 different things (we were hungry and portions are perfect to share!) and they were alllll delicious!!

The place is very cute and gives the typical Japanese restaurant aesthetic. The service is great as well. The food is average. I think it could really do better with the food.

Found yokocho through social media out of all places and decided we needed to come here! When we came in, we were greeted and taken to our table. Right away I loved the japanese ambiance and privacy. Our booth was adorned with traditional japanese art. I saw other booths had stuff like natuto and Dragonball. You place your order through the digital menu at the table. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen with pork bone broth. We ordered Butter corn and vanilla Ice cream for dessert. So good! The staff was nice and the food arrived fresh. I was impressed by the cleanliness of the restroom as well. I've been to many places where the restrooms are falling appart. After our dinner they gave us a chance to play a game so we wouldn't have to pay our tab. Unfortunately we didn't win! Overall very good vibes and great food so it was a win regardless. I will definitely be coming back to experience the rest of the menu and check out the rest of the restaurant.

Tuesdays are a god day to visit. Our first visit to this resto was on a Tuesday not too long ago. We were in the area and decided to try it. At 5pm on a Tuesday evening, it wasn't full but diners started to arrive soon after we were seated. Unfortunately, I don't know how big the resto is as each table is in its own nook behind a noren (curtains.) They have daily specials, and the Tuesday special is 50% off sushi. So, of course we ordered sushi! We ordered a few skewers, sushi and a chicken paitan ramen. We enjoyed everything but the ramen. There were several chicken paitan ramen options. We selected the one with spicy miso. Unfortunately, it was too salty for me. We'll try this place again, try a different ramen and partake of the daily special. Enjoy!

The food highlights were easily the gobo chips and the skewers. The gobo chips arrived as an impressive, light-as-air mound dusted with seaweed seasoning... super crisp, savory, and addictively easy to snack on. The pork and wagyu skewers were masterfully executed as well, coming off the grill tender, juicy, and packed with rich, smoky flavor. The toasted eihire (stingray/filefish) was another great traditional touch, perfectly chewy and ideal for dipping in the spiced Japanese mayo my favorite.. On the flip side, a few dishes lacked the depth I was hoping for. The chicken karaage was fried well, but the flavor itself was a bit bland and needed more seasoning or marination and soft. The pressed rice rolls also fell flat, particularly the mentaiko roll.. it felt skimpy on the cod roe, and because the mentaiko seemed cooked through, it missed that fresh, raw texture and punchy brine that makes the dish shine. As for the space, it's quite dark, compact, and packed tightly with tables, which makes it feel a bit cramped when it's busy. However, seeing the dining room constantly full tells me that their best dishes keep people coming back. While there were some inconsistencies in taste, the highlights made it a solid experience, and I'm looking forward to returning to try more of the menu and updating my score!

Unfortunately, the food told a very different story. We ordered a wide variety of yakitori since the glowing reviews repeatedly highlighted it as the restaurant's specialty. Instead, what arrived was surprisingly inconsistent. Nearly every skewer had a heavily charred exterior that crossed the line from smoky to bitter. Good yakitori should showcase careful grilling that enhances the ingredients, not mask them with burnt flavors. The proteins themselves didn't taste particularly fresh, and the seasoning was all over the place. Some skewers were so lightly seasoned they tasted unfinished, while others were aggressively salty. Consistency is one of the fundamentals of good yakitori and it was noticeably lacking here. Having visited plenty of izakayas and eaten more than my fair share of yakitori, I'm not claiming Michelin-level expectations. I simply know the difference between properly grilled, well-balanced skewers and ones that miss the mark. Based on this visit, the food was below average and failed to live up to the hype. With the volume of positive reviews, I expected a memorable yakitori experience. Instead, I left wondering if I had visited the same restaurant everyone else was raving about.

Sake was smoooth. Even though it was very busy, the food came out quickly. We ordered almost everything and it was delicious. The grill imparts a great char, especially on the shrimp. Flavors are well balanced and portions are decent sized. Servings are larger than I anticipated as they're larger than other yakitori places. Prices are on point so you can order quite a few things and share. It can get a bit loud with all the people but isn't that what a good yakitori is like? Nice to see a vibrant pippin' establishment.

Firstly, the parking was super easy - lots of space there. Second, it was still busy when we came and we came at an off-time (after lunch and before dinner). We were seated immediately though. Third, decor was super clean and sleek. Seating around the bar as well as tables around the walls. Fourth, they have a variety of sake. We bought a bottle and it was great. They helped us with the decision. Lastly, food value. This is where my main pain point was at - for the amount we paid and the distance we traveled, it didn't feel like it was worth it. We ordered a variety of skewers for 3 and it was hard to divide between us. The skewers tasted good but didn't stand out unfortunately. I would come back though to try more though!

I understand yakitori is cooked over a grill and the smell is part of the experience, but sweating through dinner in a small shop is not charming. Turn up the AC or improve the ventilation. Service also felt cold. There was no warmth, no hospitality, no sense that anyone was glad people were there. The grill master mostly stared through the room, which made the whole place feel more awkward than welcoming. As for the food, some skewers were good, but others were noticeably over salted. For something as simple and focused as yakitori, the execution has to be tighter than that. There are plenty of yakitori spots around. If the food were exceptional, maybe the uncomfortable room and flat service would be easier to forgive. But right now, the flavors aren't strong enough to make the experience worth repeating.

If I had been able to eat crunchier / harder stuff (I had dental work done prior), I would have been more adventurous with the menu. They had so many delicious looking options! The vibes were amazing, the staff was so friendly. I will absolutely be back. 10000000/10

Our server, Yui K, was also fantastic!! She recommended a lovely sake (Shinryu Nishiki) and desserts for my friend and me and was so efficient and sweet! (Mary Kate had already given us a number of suggestions for the appetizers and skewers.) Zoku Q: yummy!! Spicy Karaage: Oh my goodness! Eyes rolling back delicious! Giant Ebi Mayo: shrimp (huge!) cooked perfectly and also so delicious! Elote Corn Ribs: excellent flavor, but there are only four very small pieces so not worth the price (to us). Skewers were all good: Momo Teri, Mune Ume, Wagyu Beef, Unagi, Tsukune. We would definitely order the wagyu beef, Tsukune and Momo Teri again. (The others were good but not as good as these three.) For dessert we ordered the Panna Cotta and the Custard Pudding. Completely different textures but would order either again! I will enjoy returning!

As always, every dish looked so appealing -- the plating is absolutely stunning. The overall balance, colors, and presentation... everything made me want to take photos. Compared to other yakitori restaurants, the selection might be a bit limited, and die-hard yakitori fans may find it a little lacking, but it is definitely worth visiting at least once! My personal favorite here is the Chicken with Honey Mustard! The Karaage sauce is also incredible!! And finally, the desserts -- always something to look forward to! Every single one tastes like it came straight from a fine pastry shop, and I'm always blown away. I'm already looking forward to my next visit! Next time, I'd love to come for lunch and try the Yuzu Shio Ramen.

Soft lighting, relaxed chatter, and that comforting izakaya energy make it feel like a neighborhood hideout. You come here to unwind, snack, sip, and smile. Depending on what part of the day you arrive. Let's talk about the important things. This is where Akatsuki really flexes. Every dish hits that "oh yeah, "this is why we came out tonight" level. * Tempura, light, crispy, and somehow still fluffy. The kind of tempura that makes you judge every other tempura you've ever had. * Sunomono Octopus, bright, refreshing, and perfectly chewy. A palate cleanser that doubles as a confidence booster. * Hard Shell Clams, briny, buttery, and served sizzling. You'll be tempted to pick up the bowl and drink the broth like soup. * Salmon Bowl, so fresh, vibrant, and generously portioned. It's the bowl that hugs your soul. * Onigiri, simple, comforting, and exactly what you want it to be. A rice triangle with main-character energy. * Karaage Fried Chicken, finder licking good, crispy, juicy, and borderline dangerous. You'll consider ordering a second plate before finishing the first. * Spicy Crispy Tofu, Shockingly addictive. Even tofu skeptics will start questioning their life choices. * Yellowtail Sashimi, so delicious, clean, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth smooth. At one point, the karaage was so good I briefly considered writing it a thank‑you card. And the clams...Wow! The inside decor was home-y, with regular seating and a few tatami rooms. Had a rsvp for a booth and was sat immediately. Ordered a few different dishes: - Sweet potato tempura - Agadashi tofu - yellowtail jalapeño sashimi - soba noodles - chicken curry rice Everything was really good - but the chicken curry rice and sashimi stood out. They also did get our soba noodle order wrong and received udon, but the udon was good also. Prices were reasonable for the amount of food you get. Would come back!

The restaurant, with its vibe of a traditional izakaya, is quite cozy with seating for 30 guests max in the front section, plus a small room in the back. Since it was before noon, we got seated without waiting, and the friendly staff brough water and menus right away. The menu was quite extensive, ranging from sushi and simple udon to monkfish liver. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes (food arrived in 10 minutes): 3 Item Combo (Salmon, Teriyaki Chicken, and Tempura): The thinly battered shrimp and veggies were fluffy and crispy. The chicken pieces with light teriyaki sauce were quite tender. The perfectly seasoned salmon piece was fresh and buttery flaky. Miso soup was umami without being too salty. The steamed rice was slightly on the firm side. Grilled Beef Tongue: Every piece was perfectly grilled and buttery soft, and the carrot threads and onions went well with the meat. The portion is on the small side, so it is advised to order it with rice and soup. Overall, it was a very enjoyable meal and we are looking forward to coming back for their other dishes. Highly recommended.
