We requested additional hot chocolate and tea the next day, and we got plenty more biscottis too! At the hotel level, there's continental breakfast to get your morning going, a pool and jacuzzi, free parking and a beautiful courtyard to spend the morning or evening reading. Few hotels/motels at this price tier offer this level of amenities and comfort. 5 out of 5 stars!

With some research we found Chien Blanc Bungalows, a part of NapaVacationHomes.com rentals. Pros - Chelsea, who booked our stay, was very communicative through email with our reservation and provided detailed check in and check out requirements for the rental. - Upon arriving there was plenty of parking in front of the rental and our bungalow was easy to find. We stayed in the Avignon Bungalow. - The Avignon Bungalow was very homey and comfortable (they recently updated the interiors of their bungalows so disregard previous pictures and reviews). I love that we had a kitchen to cook and to store any wine or food that we may be eating or drinking. The mini vanity was my favorite! - As the weather warmed up, we were able to enjoy the gardens on site as well as the outdoor furniture. It was uber romantic! - Love the option of the community room, however, we weren't able to use it during our stay. - Also LOVED the option to pre-order wine for our stay. I loved walking into our bungalow to a bottle of wine that me and my boyfriend can enjoy while we take it all in. Make sure to get the Chelsea Vineyards wine! It's one of their own and you can't get it elsewhere! - While the owners of the bungalows were pretty hands off, which is what we wanted, Chelsea was open to suggesting restaurants and wineries to try which was super helpful. FYI-Calistoga offers a shuttle which picks you up and it's only for a buck!!!! - Last but not least, Location! Location! Location! I can't stress how awesome it was to stay at Chien Blanc Bungalows!! No more than two blocks were many restaurants, coffee shops, stores, a grocery store, and most importantly, winetasting rooms! We didn't have to get into the car to drive anywhere and we didn't have to risk drinking and driving! Cons - I own an iPhone 5s, I know it's a dinosaur. So please disregard my crummy photos as they don't do any justice for Avignon. - We couldn't stay an extra day. I recommend that your stay be at least three days. Two days just wasn't enough for us. - That I didn't get proposed to. (hahaha, no pressure!) All in all, I highly recommend Chien Blanc Bungalows!! We will be back! (in the Arnold voice)

The Chien Blanc Bungalows are also within walking distance to the main street of town. There are three bungalows and we stayed in the Avignon bungalow. It had a cool red living room and a 1940's kitchen. While a bit outdated, it definitely adds to the charm and my dad had fun figuring out how to light the stove. The bungalow contains one bedroom and the couch in the living room has a pull-out trundle underneath. Both beds can comfortably sleep 2 people each. There's also a game room, but not in the modern sense. It is a cool space though with board games, videos, and tv, darts on the wall, and a pool table. This place also has a great grill for use and my dad enjoyed cooking steaks and hamburgers for dinner. There's a market in town "Cal Mart" that is a two block walk away where you can find food to cook. Otherwise, those restaurants on the main street are also within walking distance. Cute and convenient place!

Gave advice on what restaurants, shops, and wineries she thought we'd be interested in. Bunkie, who worked at the office, was very helpful. We stayed in an off-site at the Petite Syrah bungalow. It was in perfect condition and so clean. The amenities were great! Prior to arrival, I arranged for them to provide a shower chair for my husband, who is ill. It was in the shower when we arrived. The bed was comfy, and the gas fireplace was a nice touch. We had a small patio and a separate porch, which were so nice to sit on for coffee or drinks in the early evening. There was a hot tub, but we didn't get a chance to use it. There were other bungalows, but we didn't see any other guests. It was a gated property. Shopping, the downtown area, and restaurants were all within a quick drive. Good delivery was easy and quick. It has a full kitchen and a good selection of utensils, dishes, and pots and pans. I recommend bringing your own spices if you plan to cook something special. I wanted cumin for a meal, but I could only find a huge jar at the supermarket. Sonoma is beautiful, and we can't wait to come back. Sonoma Bungalows, we'll see you soon!

But first, the good: their accommodations remain fabulous. We stayed in the Upper Poolside Cottage (Room 10) and it's just wonderful. The Comphy sheets are just heaven. Their bath towels are also plush and luxurious. Two thumbs up for in-room linens! Heated floors in the bathroom and 2-sided fireplace provide nice warmth and comfort. Complimentary snacks and fizzy water in the mini fridge are a nice bonus, too. The poolside cottages are the cat's meow, and just a short hop to the pool and hot tub. But there are several things that I noted during our last visit that made me feel like maybe this may have been our last visit to the Olea. First, there was a goodly amount of trash strewn about the property. At the hot tub, there was a wine bottle cap on the bench (I know, wine country, to be expected, right?), but what truly grossed me out was the wad of used athletic wrap right next to the hot tub. Blech! As I grabbed both of these items and took them to the trash (all of five or six steps from where they had been scattered), I noticed even more bits of trash in the corner area near the planters. Like more trash than would be expected by just one party being messy. (Also, the planter area was weedy and just seemed neglected.) I dismissed it as just not getting some needed attention, until I returned to our cottage and noticed several more pieces of trash right by our front door that I had missed earlier. And apparently so did housekeeping and management. Plus broken tree limbs atop the roof of the main building. And a huge rip in one of the pool lounge chair pads. And a very large hole (~3") in a pool towel. Just signs of general neglect and subpar for this place, especially at their price point. Second and perhaps even more disappointing is how much the included breakfast service has changed. It's gone from a 2-course, made-in-house gourmet affair to a continental style DYI breakfast, apparently now even on the weekends. The only thing made to order is the avocado toast (for obvious reasons). For those guests who hadn't enjoyed the previous offerings, perhaps it doesn't seem too bad. Nice spread. But I sorely miss the delectable morning meals and the awesome homemade chai along with the service for breakfast. I'd give this an updated 3.5 stars but will round up to 4 because I still really want to love this place. Also, Star provided friendly and welcoming service at the front desk, which was appreciated.

Each of the Guesthouses is impeccably decorated, cozy, and welcoming. From the beautiful redwood grove at The Trees to the incredible outdoor dining table at The Hills. Each house is uniquely dreamy, nestled in the picturesque town of Occidental. Barbara is truly the most wonderful, kind, and welcoming host. She attended to every single detail to ensure that our wedding day was perfect (even down to wiping off benches after the beautiful morning mist cleared). She is a dear friend and really makes every visit extraordinary. We know we will continue visiting for years to come. While you stay in Occidental, you MUST get food from the Union Hotel. Between visits, my husband and I dream about Garlic Gold pizza, carrot cake, and the best minestrone around. The pizza crust is to die for- fluffy and just the right balance of perfectly browned. The slice of carrot cake is literally larger than my hand and maybe even forearm! Super rich and velvety cream cheese frosting- amazing! We have visited Occidental once during COVID and the Union has an excellent picnic style menu. The food is ordered outside and nicely packaged for take-out or eating at a table in their distanced outdoor area. As someone who has strictly adhered to distancing and other protocols, I felt safe and comfortable! Highest praise for the Occidental Guesthouses and Union Hotel!
