Dry, flavorless, and undressed salad. Need I say more ? I'll start with the positive. The food was packaged well, with the curry separate from the chicken so it wouldn't be soggy. However the chicken on its own was beyond dry, almost like cardboard with zero seasoning. The salmon miso was also dry and over cooked. The side salad was not dressed and had no dressing included. It was simply chopped kale. I also ordered the teriyaki chicken, which had a brush of sauce and mound of rice. The best thing I ate was the curry sauce but even that was very sweet. A cool place serving Asian fusion eats. I love finding neighborhood restaurants like this one and I didn't have to travel far cuz it was within walking distance from where we stayed. Ordered the teriyaki chicken bowl with brown rice and kale salad side and shared a tuna sashimi tostada. Food was fresh and tasty. The tostada came with a generous portion of tuna, it was delicious! I happened upon Warude on a Sunday night recently, during one of Tompkins Ave beautiful block parties. I was so impressed. After 10PM and the cooks at Warude were serving up tasty Asian Fusion and cold beers to the crowds in the most unhurried, cool as a fan fashion. I sat outside at one of their sidewalk tables, people watching for almost an hour, before and after my order. I decided on soft grilled shrimp tacos and an ice cold Japanese, rice based IPA. Warude is a very interesting take on Japanese Mexican fusion. All of the dishes I tried were delicious and very Instagram-worthy. The fried chicken taco and the guacamole were my favorites. There is a wait because they do a lot of takeout orders. So you will see dozens of orders go out before yours. The staff is working hard but it just takes a while. This is not fast food. Seating is very limited. So one person should order the food while the other negotiates with people who are almost done with their food. If you are alone, good luck. read more

Hit or miss food. Warude is a fast casual restaurant with limited seating where you order at the counter. I tried the eggplant and okra bowl with roasted cabbage. My dish was served warm but was completely lacking in any flavor. It is possible that the cook forgot to put the sauce on. I tried the my wife's curry sauce as well and I thought the sauce was more interesting with a strong ginger flavor. One of my go-to places to order from. I spotted it a few months ago when we were looking around the neighborhood, and got super excited because it's the love child of our cultures (Japanese & Mexican). Given COVID hit and we haven't been able to eat out and such, my husband and I have made this a go to for ordering food. Unfortunately, I had an unpleasant experience here. My friend who lives in the area heard great things about this place, so we decided to check it out. We both went on a Monday around 1p. There was no line at the time and the cashier quickly took our order. I ordered a fried chicken taco and rice/beans. My friend ordered chicken curry. We placed the order together. We decided to dine in a sat outside awaiting our food. When our order was called (took only about 15-20 mins) we noticed they only had the curry and rice/beans not my taco. I alerted the cashier and he said it would be coming out. I waited another 15 minutes for my food then inquired on the status. He told me the kitchen was busy. I waited another 10 mins and inquired again - still no explanation as to why half of our order was ready and the remaining was it. I waited more than 30 mins AFTER half of our food came out before asking AGAIN about my taco. While I was asking two tacos came out, the cashier took one off (essentially from another order) and gave me my food. I was highly disappointed in having to wait almost an hour for one taco. What made it worse was my friend finished her food and had to wait for me. No one from the staff apologized or explained what happened. I'm pretty chill about food and waiting and can't remember having an experience like this recently. It's disappointing and you guys (if you're reading this) should do better. read more

Finally tried this place and WOW! Outdoor seating was so nice and the employees are really friendly. I ordered the nachos with guac and it was SO good.. that sour cream, I kid you not, best tasting sour cream I've ever had. Lol I'm picky about sour cream. I had the Warude Curry with extra Panko chicken. The curry sauce was delicious with the brown rice. The dish had eggplant and okra which i usually hate, but it was blended in nicely. My family had eggplant okra and they both enjoyed it while my last bones daughter had the miso salmon and it was delicious. Don't get me wrong, the tacos are delicious and made of high-quality ingredients. However, when you spend $20 on food...and you're still hungry, that's a problem! At Warude, you end up paying New York prices for Japanese portions. Don't even bring up "hara hachi bu" (eat until you're 80% full), that $5 side order of Japanese pickles are a GARNISH and should be free when you order 2 tacos. The decor and ska/reggae/salsa music makes for a great atmosphere. Warude attempts to turn fast food on its head, literally by hanging the Golden Arches of the McDonald's logo upside down to form a "W" for Warude. Ironically, I walked over to McDonald's right afterwards because I was still hungry after eating two of their tacos. I want to love this restaurant, I really do, but those prices don't make sense. Okay okay this place would have gotten 4 stars if my bowl was a little cheaper BUT I have to say it was one of the best bowls I have ever had . I had the tofu and zucchini bowl . Normally when you get tofu it's Bland but it was covered in this textured sweet chili sauce and with tomatoes bursting with flavor zucchini sweet potato and with organic brown rice and it comes with the side I got the roasted cabbage .. it was so freaking (excuse my lingo) sooooooo good . This place is super cool and they sell tacos as well . It's such a cool spot with a Japanese twist and I love it so much . I went on a weekend at lunchtime and it was packed! It still felt pretty safe since it's totally open-air and they have a good amount of tables set out on the sidewalk. My boyfriend and I both got rice bowls - salmon for me and vegan for him. They were both really tasty and at a reasonable price point for a large portion. The food came out pretty fast considering how busy they were. We saw a lot of people getting ramen so I'd try that next time. A solid healthy option on a lively block.
