The family took a trip to Kobe Asian Bistro at around 5:30pm on a Friday night. Walking in, there was only one family enjoying a show, so we were seated right away. The decor looks modern, but a little neglected. There was a sign that said "don't play with the fountain" but there was no water in the fountain. As far as food goes, it hits the spot. Nothing out of the ordinary from a hibachi place. 3 of us got steak while one got chicken and we enjoyed it. Because my wife said she has an onion allergy, we were not served the starter salad, though our chef had to be reminded not to cook the onion. So just be on high alert if you have allergies. Note: choosing fried rice in the hibachi dinner is $2 extra (per person!), word to the wise. But seriously, who would go to hibachi to eat place white rice? read more

Stopped in for some dumplings and was not disappointed! What a pretty place- beautiful chandeliers and a massive fish tank. The ambiance was perfect. My friend and I were here on a Wednesday at around 12p and we were among maybe two others. The scarcity of customers was concerning, however the dumplings were perfect and the rice was scrumptious! Wanted Asian food tonight so at stopped in as we were shopping in the area. Seated right away although the booth we sat in has very worn and torn cushions. And the table although clean, it was well worn. I think it's time they renovated the place for nicer furniture. We were served right away. Loved the mushroom soup, salad was typical Asian style. Sinai for appetizers was a little like warm, almost to the point of sending it back. So there is a little noticeable difference between the regular steak and the fillet mignon steak, not much though. Take 291 to the Tolland Turnpike exit, and look for the big plaza with a McDonald's as your landmark Kobe has it all, large dining rooms, large hibachi rooms, and a big bar. After some shopping at the cool At Home store (we bought a new coffee table), we were in the mood for lunch and hadn't had Asian food in a while. So when we saw Kobe just a hundred feet or so away, well, that sort of sealed the deal for our plans. Kobe's menu is a work of art with hundreds of choices among soups, salads, appetizers (how about Korean Fried Squid?), sushi and sashimi, dinner entrees,, noodle and rice dishes, a slew of hibachi choices, and 35 or so lunch specials from 11:30 - 3:00 every day except Sunday. The lunch menu is broken down into categories. The "Set Lunches" with miso soup and a salad have your traditional Asian fusion choices, with things like Pad Thai, Lo Mein, General Tso, and "Broccoli with" dishes. White or Brown rice is included with all but the noodle dishes. Other categories include three Sushi Lunch Specials, six Bento Lunch Boxes, Maki Lunch Specials with 2 or 3 of their 24 rolls, and ten Hibachi Lunches. Lunch prices range from $12 to $19. We both went into the $12.95 "Set Lunch" section and ordered a Pad Thai and a Thai Basil Chicken, which I asked for double spicy. Our Miso soups were a bit larger than I expected and were good, as were the iceberg and bok choy salads. I liked my Thai Basil a lot. First of all, it had quite a bit of tender chicken slices among the scallions, mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, pea-pods, carrots. The rice was soft and well cooked, and that zippy double spicy sauce was excellent. I had half yesterday and will finish it today. My wife's Pad Thai looked like a pretty generous portion with a nice garnish of crushed peanuts sprinkled on top. After tax, our total was $27.80, and that will yield four meals for us. Picked this place because it was near Dave and Busters. Upon entering we were immediately greeted and seated. Super nice staff. Place was popular tonight for hibachi but the rest of the restaurant was empty. We had to wait for other people to show up to the table and started with gyoza. Wasn't bad wasn't great. Not a lot of filling or flavor really. The hibachi, unfortunately my boyfriend and I were at the end of the table. The chef was entertaining, offered sake and put on a show. Didn't do the vegetable catch like the other tables were doing. Since I was on the end I ended up eating my food within 15 minutes as there wasn't much on my plate. My favorite noodles gone in two bites. Vegetables gone in three bites. Very disappointed more wasn't brought out or portioned correctly. The steak was really tough as there were a lot of tendons making it hard to eat and chewy. First things first the ambience is pretty amazing and has plenty of space to accommodate many people. The walls are filled with wine bottles, and luminescent lighting. Scary enough that I was 50% certain I was going to be in gastric distress before I got home. Oddly, the presentation was good. Ambiance is super nice. Hibachi area is huge and dining room is big and pretty. Food is decent but service stinks. I've been here for lunch and dinner and service is soooooooo slow. They can't seem to keep their staff. The hibachi food is good and much better when you order it from the kitchen versus the hibachi table from my experience. They do overcook the red meat a the female server once argued with me about medium cooked steak. She had no idea what medium meant. There's definitely a language barrier with the servers so orders get messed up or missed altogether. The bar is huge and very pretty. Their happy hour menu is good for food and drinks. Recently I saw the health department posting on this restaurant and wish I never ate here. I'm so disgusted by their lack of cleanliness. Oh Kobe. One of these days you're going to make good food, I know it! I've been to this specific locations multiple times, and every time I go I expect the food to be better this time. Kind of like a specific burger place that I go to hoping it gets better, but being disappointed each time I go. Kobe is that for me, only with sushi. The problem is, they actually put out pretty food. Like they actually put effort in the presentation. But every time I go, the food is lackluster and underwhelming. On this last attempt, I got their surf and turf lobster and filet sushi roll. We also got their spicy jalapeno popper, their Avocado ball, and their Sushi Pizza. There wasn't anything that was a stand-out dish out of all of them. Usually I can find something tasty out of everything, but as always it was all just meh. The avocado ball had a good amount of crab in it and the seaweed salad was not old. The Tuna pizza was difficult to eat and messy. The smear of eel sauce and spicy mayo was the only real saving grace for a chewy, limp base and warm tuna bits. The spicy jalapeno popper was mush, and the tuna was canned. The surf and turf roll, the beef was flank steak cut thin and the lobster - if it was lobster - was nothing but mush due to the batter it was fried in absorbing all the water the fish bits were soaking in. We did opt for a dessert, figured they couldn't really mess up a frozen cheesecake. the cheesecake was warm mousse, the crust was still frozen and they gave us plastic forks to attempt to eat it. Given the price, I honestly cannot recommend this place. It's clear that they know how, the presentation is on point. But it does seem like they just don't care enough about how things taste. Tonight was the 3rd or fourth time I've been to this restaurant. The first time I had hibachi with a couple friends. It was great. Love the table set up on half the side of the restaurant. Great chefs and friendly staff. The other times I've come for sushi. They do a wonderful job. Tonight I tried the soup. It was very good. Was the Malaysian coconut soup. My husband ordered the Tom yum soup, and honestly they were the same thing. His had shrimp and mine had chicken. Lol. Our friends ordered the wonton soup that looked very visually pleasing. Our friends ordered the general tso chicken which honestly looked incredible. I will be ordering that the next time I go. The portion was enough for 2 people. Overall, it's a great setting, pretty inside, and great staff. The seats could use some love at the booths. Careful when you go to sit down, you fall into a big dip. I used to come here all the time but I cannot justify spending $8 for the simplest roll on the menu. $10 gets you all the ingredients for a cali roll at the store. I'm a fan and really like this place and the atmosphere here! I've only been here twice and I was just so impressed on my most recent visit this month (prior to restaurants having to close). The sushi/sashimi was sooooo good and to be quite honest, there is less rice in the rolls and under the sushi than most places, which is just amazing to me! I don't come out for sushi/sashimi to fill up on rice, so if you do you might have to order a side it. If you like sushi, you won't be disappointed here. I ordered edamame which was delicious (though I've only had two experiences that were bad out of maybe 50, pretty hard to screw that up) and tried my friend's spicy garlic edamame, which was also good but it was so spicy I would've spent a lot of money on beverages to wash that down! Maybe next time! Happy hour ends at 6 and we arrived at maybe 5:45, so I was happy to at least get one half price cocktail before 6pm. That's right, half price! That means I had a strong saketini for only $4! That's an amazing deal, and if I lived nearby I'd be here often for that deal! All drinks are half price for happy hour, with the exception of bottles. Kobe Asian Bistro was such a good find, I was staying in the area and after looking over the dining options in and around Manchester Kobe Asian Bistro caught my eye. I arrived a little after 7:00 PM, the restaurant was about half filled at least the section that I was seated in. My server greeted me immediately after being seated and took my drink order while I browsed the menu - I was hoping there would be a few Korean options and although I quickly realized that wasn't the case I looked for something that was extra spicy. Once my drink arrived Esther my server asked if I had any questions, which I did. I finally decided to choose the Ginger Scallion Beef with 3X spicy, not clear on the intensity of the spicy levels I figured that would probably be enough - this was a beautiful and delicious dish, although I'll definitely raise the spicy level to 5X my next visit and hope for the best. I also ordered the Hong Kong Style Wonton Soup and I must say it was a stellar choice, the broth was incredible and the wonton's were so tender and delicate (if you're a wonton soup fan this is a must try). If that wasn't enough I decided to try the pork dumplings as well, I know it seems like a ridiculous amount of food for one but I really wanted to see what this place was all about, again another exceptional selection tender and complex served with a wonderful dipping sauce. I was so impressed with the food here. Although the restaurant was filling up with customers the later it got and I was occupying a four top near the front window I never felt rushed, Esther was very timely with her check-in's and asked several times if I was enjoying the food and she keep a filled drink in front of me. After I finished most of everything I ordered while waiting on my check one of the owners / manager stopped by my table and asked about my meal, he also mentioned the spice level I requested and we laughed when I told him I will order 5X spicy my next visit. He asked where I was from and agreed my southern roots probably justifies my tolerance for spicy food compared to most from the northeast. I came here with some friends on a Saturday night for my friends birthday. We were able to find parking outside easily despite the place being very full, a popular place! We got a table inside and our waitress came to take our order quickly. We all got a drink and then an entrée and were pleased with the large bar menu as well as the sushi types. I recommend the shrimp dumplings as well as the vegetarian hibachi entrée, definitely large portions. I was very disappointed with my family's visit to Kobe for a Hibachi dinner. Let me preface by saying our chef was phenomenal and super kind - he was a rockstar. Unfortunately, the rest of the staff was quite rude and felt frustrated with any ask from our family. One of the children has a severe allergy and the waitstaff did not relayed to the chef. In addition to the impoliteness of the staff, the bathrooms looked to not have been cleaned in days. This was our first time dining at Kobe. We enjoyed it very much. We popped in around 9 pm for dinner - late, right? There were 3 other tables occupied as well. That's a good first sign, I think! Make sense? Apples & oranges, I tell ya! I ordered the chicken satay with peanut sauce. The satay is seasoned nicely with a flavor that seems along the lines of Indian food flavor. It's a touch spicy but tender & tasty. (I wouldn't recommend for kids.) Hubby ordered chicken lo mein - it was good. The flavors were developed well, almost like how good lo mein tastes the next day only this is freshly made. Delicious! I opted for some sushi and so cannot tell you how THRILLED I was to see Crunchy Spicy Tuna roll on the menu! I love the crunchies in my sushi but typically I only see them offered with the more expensive chef rolls. $8 for 6 pieces. They were on the smaller side for spicy tuna rolls but they don't skimp on the fish for sushi rolls. Very little rice. I also ordered the Volcano roll which has spicy tuna, avocado, cucumber topped with tobiko, spicy mayo & eel sauce. Again, this was mostly fish and very little rice. And it was gooood! It has a little heat from the spicy mayo, which one might expect from a Volcano roll, right? Yep, perfect amount of heat. I was unable to finish everything although I tried & hubs helped. Overall, we were very happy with our experience here and will return. I have to give props to the employees here as well. The restaurant has two adjacent dining rooms, chandeliers, and bar seating. We were just stopping by for a quick dinner and restroom break but ended up staying a bit longer because we felt so relaxed at our table. Social distancing wasn't an issue at all because the tables were so far apart, imparting an intimate atmosphere. The Volcano roll and basil fried rice we ordered hit the spot! The basil fried rice is served as a massive mound, and the spicy tuna in my roll was fresh. Prices are fair given the venue and portion size.
