I found this place on Yelp when I was craving Korean food and decided to give it a try with friends. It's run by a couple who take your order at the counter and then cook in the kitchen all by themselves, which was very wholesome. The menu is quite large but we all decided to go for some variation of the combo meal with choice of potato or kimchi fried rice, and fried chicken or bulgogi. The combos came with miso soup, which was undrinkably salty. However, the rest of the meal was pretty good and definitely satisfied the craving. We also got some kimbap which was absolutely delicious. The iced coffee was fantastic as well. My coworkers and I had a great lunch here today. Their sushi is fresh and everyone was satisfied. Collectively we had beef ramen, veggie dumpling ramen and seafood ramen all spicy level. The broth was great, but I wish it was a tad spicier (may just be my preference as everyone else remarked how spicy it was). The ramen mine came with was a tad underdone but not a big deal. We also tried the edamame which was good, seaweed salad and sushi rolls. I had a simple spicy salmon which came with the spicy mayo. The fish was fresh and I can't complain. Place is tucked away in a plaza with a big sign advertising lawyers and other specialists. Place looks like a small house, with a few seats inside. You order at the counter, menus are on full display and lots of options are available. The place is a mom and pop operation, with the lady making the helm while the guy does the cooking. The food is awesome, well done and cooked properly. For negatives, the potstickers were deef fried rather than pan fried. That and the Korean fried chicken wasn't tempura battered and seemed frozen. The flavors were solid and well done. The spicy Kani salad and the special roll had a good spice kick to them. The flavors were pronounced and not overwhelming. We are so lucky to have this hidden gem of a restaurant so close. I ordered the egg-kimchi pancake-so wonderful and the veg dumpling ramen and asked for a little spiciness. As a Korean, I am very picky with Korean foods. This place was good and had great flavors and most importantly, great quality. What an excellent find. It's a small cafe with limited menu however what is offered is done very well. We arrived early so we were the only ones there. The owner was friendly and guide us as we explored the menu. We had the chicken ramen (option of mild or spicy; choose the spicy, of course) and beef loco moco and bubble tea (mango and coffee flavors). The ramen was big, rich broth, fresh vegetables, and right noodle consistency and overall balanced. My son enjoyed the loco moco and was obsessed with the sauce (gravy) and devoured the whole thing. The only somewhat complaint was that the mango bubble tea didn't taste of mango but more of vanilla. Other than that the whole experience was wonderful. This is a very small cafe, and a little hard to find. Parking is available in the back but there was a big sign to guide you. It is BYOB if you are coming for dinner. I moved to Vernon 2 years ago and little did I know there was this gem hidden in the corner! The food brings me back to Hawaii along with a deli section. That is not supposed to be a breakfast food. But the owner gracefully accepted to make it if I can wait for 15 minutes. It tasted a bit different. Do not be deterred by the quiet, quaint atmosphere this place has. The food is reasonably priced, and doesn't skimp on size or flavor. It took me a while to try this spot out because the location seemed strange to me, but after going in for Ramen yesterday I'm going to become a quick regular here. The curry rice is perfect. Drenched in flavor, perfectly crispy meats are served alongside a perfectly cooked egg over easy that rests on top of fluffy rice, covered in yellow curry. The ginger sauce that comes as a palate cleanser over cabbage is not watered down, or muddy, as I've had at other places. I had the pleasure of trying the ramen as well. If you order spicy they're not kidding. It's not an overwhelming spice, but it builds. The noodles were slurpable, and the broth was warming. I had the beef, which is a simple roast beef presented neatly over the ramen, nestled among crisp beans, and your basic white mushrooms. It's not the Momofuku of NYC, but all ingredients were fresh, and I'm looking forward to trying their other varieties! A major plus-- FINALLY bubble tea in a slushie, milk style that doesn't hold back on the pearls, and is near me! They have a bunch of flavors. Ask about it! If the food doesn't woo you, which I don't know what about Hawaiian/Japanese comfort food wouldn't, the owners will. They are so friendly! Me and niece went here for the first time last week. The lady at the counter which I assume is either the owner or related to the owners was rude and made me feel like she couldn't be bothered when I asked her some questions about the ramen soups. Little strips of what I'm sure was frozen octopus, squid, mussels and the tinies shrimp I've ever seen. The shrimps were even smaller then the ones in seafood salad. The "fishy" bad taste was gross and I barely ate. My niece shared her dumpling ramen with me. Upon going to counter to pay and ask about a boba tea, the same lady was exceptionally rude to my niece who is a kid and asked about a frappe instead of boba. At this time I said forget and just paid the bill and told her we are never coming back and it's not worth her attitude. We visited 40 West Cafe for the first time today and we loved this little gem. We ordered a couple of curry dishes, one ramen, and one Loco Moco. They used Japanese curry so the taste was on the sweet side. The fried chick, pork and fish that came with the curry dishes were spot on. It's authentic Japanese fried food you would find in Asian. We were not impressed with the ramen with hot broth though. Maybe we should try regular broth instead of hot. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the food. I have always been interested in Asian inspired cuisines and based the on menu itself, it satisfies all of my needs. The food seems freshly prepared and every item I've had has been very comforting and filling. The authenticity can be questioned but the I praised the owner for simply cooking proper, fulfilling meals.
