We recently relocated from that state that everyone in Idaho hates (insert a sorry emoji with a peace sign) and have tried a few different sushi places. This place has become one of our favorites. They have fantastic food, great location, and although they are sometimes a little understaffed, they still manage to get those orders out. First time - i orders stuffed mushrooms with spicy tuna and crab meat, salmon skin hand roll, and salmon hand roll for my lunch. They only had one lunch combo for $13. So ordered a few thins off the menu. Just to note - I'm pretty picky about seaweed when it comes down to rolls as I grew up with many different types of seaweed. So here are my thoughts on what I had: - Stuffed mushroom - four pieces of deep fried mushrooms. The first bite was divine. Just enough spicy tuna and the crab meat with the perfect crispness of fried light Japanese breading. By the fourth one though, I felt like it had a bit too much sauce. Just one piece will be plenty so I would order it again only if I am with others to share the dish with. - Salmon Skin - not too much rice and right amount of salmon skin and cucumbers. One thing though, salmon skin strips were a bit too skinny for me - I like to taste more meat for this dish. And the seaweed...please refer to the next item. :) - Salmon Hand Roll - Perfect amount of tasty salmon and not too much rice. But the seaweed was NOT perfectly crispy!! It was a bit on the stale side. If it wasn't for the seaweed, this hand roll could've been one of the best ones I've had in town. read more

If I were reviewing strictly on quality of food alone I would hands down give the sushi here a solid 5 stars. All of the rolls we ordered were very fresh, decently sized, fair ratio of fish to rice and flavorful and creative combinations. Ordered the J-Bomb for an app. It was very good, but is small. Its only 2 pieces so hard to share. Ordered the Kill Bill, Romeo & Juliet, Samurai, Firebird, and the Del Mar. Each one was distinctively different than the rest. My favorite probably Kill Bill or Samurai. Firebird was probably my least favorite. I really prefer the taste of raw salmon over cooked. It had a very distinct smoky flavor. If I were reviewing strictly on customer service I would give my experience a 1. It really was that bad. We had reservations ( which really weren't necessary as the place was very slow the whole time we were there) and yet they seemed to be ill prepared to handle our group. A very unreasonable time passed before we were ever greeted, compounded with even longer to get something to drink, and almost no chance of a refill. The ordering system of filling out your own menu cards for a sushi order proved disastrous. Picture 5 couples each with 4-5 rolls per order card trying to decipher who's roll was who's when they started coming out. Even our waiter seemed to struggle with keeping track of who had what. Overall there seemed to be serious lack of urgency in service; like we kept getting forgotten about when I'm almost positive we were the only table assigned. It was so odd. It got to the point when all we could do was just joke about it and make the best of the situation. I feel like a true fair rating would be a 3.5 stars. 3 seems too low, because the sushi was that good. And a 4 seems too high given the ridiculous service. So what to do?!? I'm giving the benefit of the doubt and hoping there was some kind of random reason the service was lacking that night. Thinking it would be worth the 10% up charge to order the food to go, to eliminate the need to chance bad service again. Their rolls are a little more on the high side than some of the other places locally. The rolls are usually pretty small which is why I'm giving four stars. by far the best SUSHI place in the area! I love the nigiri sushi!! The fish taste amazing, in a generous portion, and seasoned well. Can't go wrong with nigiri here! We've tried pretty much the whole nigiri menu and love everything on it. The most memorable roll would be the Fire Bird! It's a must try! It has cream cheese, shrimp tempura, crab on top, smoked salmon, avocado, and a special sauce. When it's served it's literally "on fire". Customer Service: depends on the server. Disappointing take away service. Told me one time at first on phone, then told me reduced time when she realized my order was small, then told me I was early when I arrived as told at earlier time; calling me out and pointing to pickup time on receipt I didn't even get yet. Then also found at there's a 10% Covid surcharge after all that. Considering we all tip 20% on carry out these days, the surcharge sucks and you would at least expect good carry out service. (Or an apology for the confusion instead of blaming me.) My first experience certainly was not great and not sure I'll return. read more

Oh my goodness it is hard to eat at a sushi place when you can't have raw fish (pregnant) and have to limit carbs (gestational diabeetus)! Hopefully in a few months I can try again and will order ALL THE CARBS! Every roll was unique and delicious according to my meal buddies. I did try a few slices of seared salmon, super good without any sauces. The buddies got "firebird," the fire part was impressive, and went for a long while. See pics! I did have the salmon skin salad, which was not my favorite. The dressing and greens were good, as were the tiny pickled carrots hidden throughout. I don't appear to be a fan of salmon skin! But what made me want to review was the flexibility the chef allowed in the rolls, converting "pink lady" to a hand roll without rice. She even did it with the soy paper, though was reluctant to make it a hand roll because it wouldn't be as pretty. At a certain point I don't care what it looks like, too hungry! For sushi restaurant, I'd put 3.5 stars, but their additional Japanese meals like sukiyaki and yakisoba moved this place to 4 stars. Pretty nice Japanese restaurant at the corner of small mall in apple street. My son loved the firebird, which is the salmon sushi with cream cheese on fire... Literally. Like so much sushi places in Boise they use medium grain normal rice. The sushi would be much better if they used true sushi rice. Short grain. After living in Japan for many years this is one of the better places in Boise so three stars is very high for my scale. read more

Best sushi I've had in Boise! They had a large variety of different kinds of sushi. I really loved the Fire Bird (it was on fire when they brought it out, which was amazing) and Samurai. The location seems a little random, but it has a very nice environment inside the restaurant itself. I definitely will be taking friends here from now on! read more

Clean and cozy environment. Staff was friendly and professional. After discussing their menu with them I could tell that they still had a passion for what they make. They take the time to also put a little creativity into some of their own unique sushi items. The fish cuts for the nigiri were a little stringy, but the roll was delicious. Wow! Didn't even know this little gem was near us. There is a wide array of Sushi places in Boise and only a few impress... thankfully I get to add Wasabi to my list! We started are evening with Edamame and Cucumber Sunomono (a must). My wife had a Veggie Maki Roll, I slammed down the Samurai and the Rolls Royce (delicious)! Had our hopes up for this place since we can't find great sushi anywhere in Boise. Asked them for their most popular rolls. The fire bird was way to Smokey tasting from the smoked salmon. Regular salmon should be used instead. The kill bill and the mammoth were not impressive either. Instead of very thinly sliced jaleoeno the roll had thick chunk of it. And did not care for the raw asparagus either in the one roll. Guess we will keep looking. read more

Not the fanciest or nicest sushi place in Boise. But despite the lack of opulence, this place has a great atmosphere that is far from a dive. The food and service was also good. Very affordable for a sushi dinner and the chef even hooked us up with a free half roll! Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a good Japanese meal, without going too over the top. read more

First I give my regards to the people that are working at this establishment. Seriously, first class customer service. Everyone in the restaurant went above and beyond. Our server Kelly made me and my girlfriends experience one to remember. The food is so delicious we had to order for different roles, salad, and soup. And we could not help but eat all of it. I've been preparing sushi for 30 years....suffice to say, I rarely go out to sit at a Sushi bar. But I did, while waiting for my Chicken Yakisoba take-out. Just had some Maguro and Tamago nigiri. Maguro was clean and tasty, but a bit chewy. The Tamago, I have to say, was the best I've ever had!! It had such an awesome balance of Mirin, soy and Dashi! Loved it. Bottom line $11 (that's without tip) for 1 small roll, I could get sushi at Albertsons across the street for less and have more sushi. Been here on weekend and weekday. FOOD: Honestly, I go here for their katsu curry. I've never tried the other menu before but this is where I get my katsu curry fix! The menu looks pretty varied and I would like to try the other food on my next visit. PLACE/AMBIANCE: Saturday lunch for 2 people-quiet (3-4 other tables). Tuesday lunch for myself-dead quiet (1 other table). 'm not sure whether it's because of the location or people just don't know this place exists. I actually like the fact that it's such a quiet place to enjoy my food. But I want this place to stay in business so check them out! The ambiance/decor is nice and unique. Love the lanterns! Sushi and tempura was decent. I prefer a couple other local places. I came here for the ramen. It's terrible. They have no business serving it. My girl and I were the only customers at 11am. The noodles were soggy. The broth, if it was even prepared in house, was cloudy and flavorless. There was a decently undercooked hardboiled egg. There were two tiny slices of pork loin or substitute. I like this place but the problem with it is that it's forgettable. Been here twice and while the food is good , the fish seem fresh ( but not entirely enough vegetables within the entrees ) , and the Service is prompt , it's weird when you walk in because you don't know if you're supposed to go grab a table yourself or be directed towards one . I've done this on both visits then watch the rest of the general public try and figure out the same thing once they step foot in here . I just moved into a neighborhood right down the road from Wasabi. I went here last Thursday and found myself back for dinner on Saturday night. Seeing as though I try not to eat out very often, that makes this quite the exception. Let me start with the sushi itself. I ordered a sampling of the nigiri and tried the salmon, yellowtail, albacore, white tuna, scallops. The cuts of fish were large, fresh, and very tasty. Some places tend to overdo it on the rice portion of nigiri--Wasabi nails it. They have a smaller portion of rice so you're able to better taste the fish. That being said, the rice itself is seasoned perfectly; just a touch sweet, with that nice hint of rice vinegar. Every piece of nigiri I tried was terrific. The rolls are large, plated well, and priced affordably. The service, too, is terrific. I have gotten accustomed to waiting ~30-45 minutes from time of order until food begins arriving at my table. It wasn't more than 10 minutes or so from time of order for the food to arrive. The servers are pleasant, quick, and attentive. It bespeaks a well-staffed establishment that the food comes out in a timely manner and it's never hard to get the attention of a server. Even though I have not seen more than 2 servers nor 3 chefs behind the sushi bar, this level of service is maintained. Every table gets their food promptly and even when it looks like it's filling up, the level of service is maintained. The decor is pretty subdued here. All of the windows are covered by wood paneling so there's no headlights shining in while you're trying to enjoy a bite, and when it's night you don't feel like you're in a fish bowl. I'm somewhere between 3 and 4 stars. The ambiance is great, you do not feel like you are in a strip mall at all. As the other reviews said the service needs improvement. We were there on a weekend evening and they seemed to have a hard time keeping up with typical service wait times. It took a while to receive water and menus once seated. We received our miso and salads fairly quick, but the seaweed salad wasa either missed with the kitchen or behind. The food was all very tasty. According to the husband the seaweed salad was fantastic. There were 2 different prices for the rolls with no explanation of the difference and no differentiation on the order slip (you complete your own for the rolls). The rolls we received were all 8 pieces but they were small, not much in them. They had large gaps between bringing each roll out to us. Midway through our service they seemed to realize the slow service on the floor and I assume the manage came out to assist. If they can improve their service and either make the rolls a bit more robust or explain the menu better we will likely become regulars. I'm hoping they do. read more

Went here last night with a party of 6, and the service was great, always on top of filling our drinks but our server was not very helpful with recommendations. I hate to assume, but based on body language and verbiage..our server seemed to cared more about getting the order in, then being personable, and talking to us about the menu. I had two sushi rolls and wasn't impressed..the sushi was mediocre at best (if I'm honest, the worst sushi I've ever had), despite the nice atmosphere. Really enjoyed the sushi here, all the rolls were very good. The Kill Bill was my personal favorite, but the Del Mar was a close second. The service was a bit slow, other tables got their rolls before we did even though they were seated after us.
