This place is a well hidden gem. The sushi is always amazing and reasonably priced (ranging from $5 - $12). Service varies from time to time; sometimes the waitresses are on it, other times you might have to politely remind them to refill your drink. Sushi is prepared quickly unless they are very busy or you have a very large order (we used to have parties of 6-8 and it would take a bit of time to sushi for all of us). I would order an appetizer if you very hungry and either of these conditions apply. I always see people order takeout from here and its usually a short wait and they are happy to sit you at a table with a beer while you wait. My only issue with this place is all the good food makes it difficult to be frugal. read more

The food is good, but forget customer service! I don't know who owns this place, but the one older lady who serves is so rude. I ordered carry out today at 2 pm. She said it will be ready in 15 minutes (215). I arrived at 230. No lights were on, she was sitting behind the register glaring at me. She said "your late, we close at 230". I apologized and told her that Yelp stated that they were open, and there was no indication that you closed at 230. She said, "Wrong we don't have no website". I paid, no tip for her; and left. Maybe its me, but that is not the way to talk to customers who are paying you. I should have walked out and left the food! If they closed, she could have told me that when I called in the order. I have had sushi in many different locations, including Bermuda, Aruba, the Cayman Islands, and the Bahamas. And I have to say that this small simple restaurant in my home town, Olney, MD has some of the best sushi I have ever had. The fish is always fresh and the rolls are seasoned with delicious sauces and fish eggs in a way I have never seen anywhere. You're in for a treat at this sushi restaurant. I haven't had any dish here that I didn't like. The sushi is fresh and they have a lot of selections. I personally love their avocado salad as a starter and my favorite sushi roll has to be the spicy baked scallop roll! My sister doesn't eat raw fish, so I was forced to try this one, but it's 100% better than the other raw options. The service is always friendly and I enjoy coming here or ordering carry-out. I discovered this amazing little gem back in 2004 and have loved it ever since. After going a handful of times and taking off the cabbage on my salad the waitress there recognized me and the next time I ordered she brought out my salad without the cabbage! We went here the night before Thanksgiving and the restaurant was full. There were only 2 waitresses there and we waited for 1 hour and 20 minutes for our sushi. Not once during that time did the waitress come to see if we wanted more water or anything else to drink or to even offer a salad or soup or something while we waited. So, the service was not that good. The sushi was decent. We like almost all the rolls we got except for one, which wasn't bad, just wasn't as good as it sounded on the menu. The atmosphere was cute. This place was recommended from a friend, and i have to say, thank god he did! The food was amazing! I personally love sushi, and I'm also very into interior design, when I first walked into the restaurant I was attracted by the big ship as their bar. I liked the idea and effort in designing it. Beside the interior design, their food were amazing, I had few sashimi and a few rolls, it tasted fresh. If you like avocado, then you should order Green Tree, their avocados are perfectly ripped so the sushi was creamy and tasted healthy! The service was great and the waitress looked super friendly! Well, if you like fried rolls, its good. A bit over priced. The 5 piece Tempura roll was 10 bucks. There is not many places to eat Sushi in the area. Went to Wasabi Zen last night and it was fine. Not the best or worst - doable sushi. I got the flying dragon roll and dynamite roll which were both good. The eel didnt seem fresh and it was very broken up which was the low point of what I had. One thing that has clearly changed is the eel sauce. If you eat eel sushi, you are familiar w eel sauce and theirs has changed which really negatively impacts my experience there. I asked the waitress the last time I was there and she said it looked darker and thicker than it usually does and I noticed the same and left it as a one off issue. It was the same last night. I will give it one more shot and hopefully it improves - others may love it so not a big deal, just not for me and I travel a lot and eat a lot of sushi and never tasted this type of eel sauce. My wife and I are regulars at Wasabi Zen- Really good food (sushi and entrees) Staff and Sushi Chefs are always very nice and provide great service. I see a lot of other reviewers commenting that the entire staff is Korean, well no shit- we are on the east coast of the united states- I'd say 90% of Sushi places in the area are Korean. The important thing is the Sushi is very fresh, tasty, and ample in portion size. I generally get two Nigiri (Yellow Tail and Tuna) and one Maki (roll) and am stuffed. read more

But a friend let us in on our neighborhood secret and I am glad she did! this place is awesome for sushi! My favorite was the Hawaiian Sunset and the Spicy Tuna sooooo good and all at a great price. My husband and I LOVE Wasabi Zen! This restaurant is small with a small main menu (aside from their sushi menu), but don't let that fool you. The sushi rolls and sashimi are delicious and the quality is fabulous. They have the best spicy tuna roll without question! A few other favorite rolls include the spicy scallop and Hawaiian sunset rolls. Don't forget to check their specials board; the "Hot Night" roll is our all time favorite! Their hot saki hits the spot. For appetizers we love the edamame, shrimp shumai and vegetable tempura. We have also tried the chicken and steak teriyaki, both of which we enjoyed. The tempura ice cream is delicious. We have become regulars, the staff always remembers us and gives us a warm greeting. The wait staff and chefs are friendly and efficient. The young woman (late teens/early 20s) who who works there is so sweet, we always look forward to seeing her. We have never had to wait for a seat or longer than 3-5 minutes for our food. If you're looking for a quick stop to fill your craving for sushi or Japanese cuisine, look no further! read more

I saw a lot of complaints on reviews about the shrimp teriyaki, steak, vegetables, etc but I mean...it's a sushi restaurant...so get the sushi and you won't have complaints. Best sushi in the Olney area, hands down. I crave this place and go at least once a month. Spicy Tuna with ponzu sauce is my favorite. The California Yammy roll is awesome. Salmon and Crab Imperial sushi are delicious. I've tried some of their other rolls but am stuck on these at the moment because they're so good. Cute interior. Service is hit or miss which is why I'm only giving them 4 stars.
