I'm not sure what happened here. This used to be one of my favorite places to shop and occasionally sell. But recently, they have moved away from (non-designer) vintage, at least according to one of their buyers. This is really disappointing. This has been the route that Buffalo started down a few years ago, which made shopping there kind of disappointing. There's little fun in sorting through racks and racks of new, poorly made stuff knocking off old designs. To be perfectly clear, I don't necessarily want to sort through racks of "typical" vintage, but in Wasteland's case, I always felt like they did a good job of stocking exceptional pieces, designer or otherwise. It seems limiting to shy away from anything that is visually striking, unusual but interesting, etc. Can't quite wrap my head around such a limitation, perhaps it was just misinformation from my last buyer, which brings me to... Selling here used to be a kind of bittersweet fun as it meant I was broke and parting with beloved items or sending them off to be replaced by something new. Always worth the trip over but for the last year now, I typically get the same buyer who doesn't look at my items, but rather, lifts one corner of the entire stack, psychically determines their fate as markdown rags before stuffing the carefully curated goods back into the bag. This is frustrating, to say the least. On the rare occasion that I get one of the longer-tenured, friendlier buyers, I usually leave with a 50-80% lighter bag. Pretty remarkable. As someone who's spent many years doing their job, I know better than to argue, ask for another buyer, nor am I deluding myself that my ten items are all can't-miss items, but this is the first time that I have ever seen a buyer NOT look at items during a buy and it happens each and every time with this one. As far as merchandise for purchase goes, well, without a regular intake of vintage, I'm not their target customer at this point and I am fully aware and accepting of that. I could care less about designer or modern in general. Give me vintage denim, chore, motorcycle club, native american, americana, etc but all I really see on the racks are items inspired by the goods that I actually want. Their bread and butter customer is probably thrilled to hit this place up. Unlike many of these other reviews, I have never encountered any rude staff, most have provided the right balance of noticing/acknowledging me, being available if needed but not up in my face the entire time. I always liked their level of service. Most of the staff I have talked to over the years have all been friendly and helpful, so no complaints there. Overall, the staff earn the stars, but until the moratorium on non-designer vintage is lifted, I'm kinda wedged out of this place. I'll still, warts and all, recommend this store over just about ANY Crossroads and their staffs of child laborers. read more

I went into this location on a Saturday to get rid of unwanted Fall/Winter items before the season starts! I had a couple of bags and particularly wanted to be in & out rather than going to their popular Melrose location...GREAT DECISION, as "John Cueto" the Store Manager/Buyer made my day! He helped me sell a majority of my clothes and was extremely hospitable and knowledgeable on a lot of higher end pieces I brought in, giving them great prices...I definitely will go out of my way to sell at this location in the future, especially because of the customer service read more

I had SUPERB service today. I am a wardrobe stylist for a living so I am in clothing stores about five days a week. I know when people can and can not do, when they just choose not to and when they bend for ya. Today not only did Emmit bend and make a huge exception for me that I will not share because I don't want you all to wear him out. But I just want to let everyone know that he and the entire staff were very accommodating and super polite. I looked like a homeless person so I definitely did not expect to be treated like royalty the way I was today. Kudos to you all! read more

The items here are fine, if a bit pricier than they're truly worth. Lots of neat things to look through, and a very nice selection of shoes. However, the overall atmosphere of this place is unwelcoming, unfriendly, and conceited. Workers here are never forthcoming or particularly helpful, and I always feel as if I'm outsider trespassing on a private party. Sorry, am I not on the list? It's a shame, as the selection seems pretty solid to me, but I much prefer the friendliness of the Melrose location. The staff there had no idea about authenticity of an item, I took a white lace authentic Valentino dress & this guy (with short hair & mustache was not friendly at all) he looked at it suspicious went inside and told me he can't take it. It made me feel so uncomfortable. Overall the admosphere wasn't nice ! I have a lot of designer wear which I wanted to take in future, but would never set foot again. read more

First of all, I have to say that I love second-hand clothing stores. However, I'm not impressed with this place at all. I wanted to sell some REALLY expensive, cute clothing to them and they rejected everything. I should point out that my clothes were hardly worn. I was only selling them because I had lost weight and they didn't fit me anymore. The girl said that they only take DESIGNER clothing. I was told by someone previously that these people were snobs, and I would tend to agree. The "designer" clothes they had were actually not only boring, but overpriced. The staff here can be little cold and aloof. The selection of clothes is quite random, being a send hand clothing store but it is still really easy to find your way around the store because they are constantly organizing it. The shoe section is my favorite. There section of new clothing is quite small which disappoints me a little. read more

This review is strictly comparing the other local area Wastelands (Melrose, Santa Monica) to this location: The selection and overall vibe at this particular Wasteland location is miles better than the other locations. The store is about twice as big as the Melrose location, and similarly sized to the location in Santa Monica. Parking is FREE and directly behind the store (parking lot), which is reason enough to go to this location over others IMO, and the store itself is less packed as the other locations (in my experience) which is great for sifting through racks of clothing without being bothered or bumped into. (Seriously, at other locations people usually look through the same rack as me but on the other side and pull clothing right out of my hand which is super annoying but definitely another story...) Staff have been way more welcoming here (less snobby and cold than staff at other locations, always asking if you need help or want to start a fitting room, etc.) and are just a lot nicer overall. Only qualm is the location is pretty far out from central LA and the shoe selection is a little lacking, but other than that, I love this Wasteland. read more

Personally I like this particular location. Better than the one in Burbank for sure* Lots to look at and I like they're show collection as well. Every single rack had something to catch my attention. And I hate that I'm pretty picky. They have a good selection of denim shorts also, which I love and I give them pointers for it:) The staff is friendly and not hoovering over your shoulder like a voulcher. The accessories are also basic and cute. Nothing too over the top and they're also inexpensive. read more

the items that wasteland has to sell are all amazing. Very cool looking clothing, they even have designer! I discovered them while walking down ventura and I always stop by earning mornings on the weekends to see the new items they got it. It is a little pricey, but its a lot of amazing clothes all in one store. read more

This Wasteland location is decent. It's not one of the bigger ones but they do have a lot of cool stuff I don't find at others. This location is in a shopping plaza so parking is free! You can enter through the parking lot which is the back or you can enter through the front which faces the streets. They have the new stuff towards the registers and then the men's stuff on one side and women's on the other. They don't have as much as others since it is smaller but that does make it easier to dig through everything and isn't as overwhelming as the location in Melrose where everything is there and takes hours to find what you're looking for. I found a lot of random cute things here like hats, dresses, and shirts...both used and new for great prices. You are also able to sell your clothes here, which I haven't tried yet but I heard they buy more unique,vintage looking stuff or of course, name brand stuff. There is not enough good things for me to say about this store! Every employee is so friendly, is very personal and I basically don't shop anywhere else.. Emmett and Lex are my faves! I leave about 90 minutes away and if I am in the valley, I don't leave it without stopping in! Hoping wasteland puts snobby retail stores out of business! Like any other resale place you'll have to scroll through several racks to find something in your size that is cute, but considering that it is a resale store you are likely to find something. I read other reviews about the employees at this place and it seems pretty accurate. They don't seem to care much about their customers. read more

I found this awesome pair of boots here, but the price tag fell off so they couldn't sell them to me. They put them on hold and said they expected the boots to be $50-60. The next day, the manager upped them to $75 and refused to negotiate or compensate me for having to return. I ended up buying them for a total of $80, and even though I like the boots, it always sucks coming home feeling like I overpaid, especially for such an off season item. Bummer! read more

I'm a huge bargain shopper, and this place is fooling their customers. From over priced Forever 21 (originally a $15 blouse brand new, they sell theirs for $12 used) to faded Hanes tees that somebody screen printed in the 90's they then try to pass off as "vintage" and sell for $22 and up. I saw several pairs of FAKE True Religion jeans, and quite a few obviously FAKE designer handbags. I wonder if they know it's illegal to sell something that isn't authentic? Then when I finally did find something awesome, the price completely deterred me, I mean $95 for a USED skirt from Urban Outfitters? Why don't I just walk a few doors down and buy it brand new for $115. (yes, these price comparisons are true.) Aside from the over priced merchandise, the staff doesn't seem to know they work there. The employees even seem like they're trying to avoid the customers altogether. When I came out of the dressing room with the things I had tried on and asked if I should leave them with the attendant, her exact words were "uhhh...i guess", like it wasn't her job. She even looked a little confused. All in all I don't really understand how they can call this a "thirft" store. There is nothing thrifty about it. Generally when I here "used clothing" I think "great deals". I'm almost convinced the people who shop there have NO idea about Buffalo Exchange (Where I've been shopping for years now). I even saw something that I bought at BE selling for over $20 more then the price I bought it at. So if you're looking for Urban Outfitter prices on USED GARMENTS this is the place for you. I have been instructed that this platform is an excellent way to document experiences one may have when utilizing said businesses services . In this experience the only service utilized was setting foot on there store front . The description of my experience herein is not intended to be any sort of communication to the business, but a documentation of this businesses behavior towards me . I was walking past this business on my way to work In studio city . I heard an alarm go off and thought nothing of it . seconds later a security card was yelling "excuse me " "excuse me". I stopped , turned around , and he walks up to me and asks if I'll " go back to the store "... I replied "wrong guy " . As soon as I said that , another guy whom was not a security guard popped out of the same business and said " you can go " "pardon me " I asked . He says again in the most arrogant way " you can go " ... No sorry , No oops , just " go " . He had no idea who or what he just screwed with . I'm no tough guy , but I could definitely ruin his day I thought . I was running late , and decided not to fight both of them ... . I said nothing and walked away . I have almost the entire event on video . Obviously I have passed this on to my advocate and now you . I live 3 minutes away from them. I cross the street when I'm not driving to avoid catching a case . As soon as I resolve this legally ... it may be time to go Into end of zen mode . read more

Wasteland does a great job of bringing designer labels at a discounted price all under one roof. I'm a regular here and have picked up some great outfits and shoes to match in here. There's so much to browse in here, and the stock is constantly rotating, so it pays to be a regular here cos you never know when that piece of clothing you just have to have is going to arrive. I hate the mall. It's just no fun for me and I don't ever find pieces I really love. All my favorite pieces have come from small boutiques and second hand stores just like wasteland. The clothes are interesting and unique. It just sucks that when you find something you like, there's usually only one size available.- the one in your hand. Finding a favorite piece here is definitely bound to happen when you do some digging. Whether its a purse, shoes, clothes or jewelry, I'm intrigued by their stock. read more

I really love this Wasteland, every time I go into this location I find something new and amazing. I really love their selection of designer and vintage items, I have found some great deals on some high fashion items from YSL, Marc Jacobs, Missoni, Chloe, DVF and Pucci at these stores for much less money then at Saks or Neimans, and it is much more fun to shop at as well since it requires a hunt. The prices for designer items are generally more then Buffalo or Crossroads, but the selection is 100 times better. The sales people at this location are very sweet and always friendly and chatty. The location of where it is much easier to park at then the Melrose location.The only wish I have for this location is for their designer purse/shoe selection to be as big as Melrose, but that is about it. read more

Overly priced !! Clothes are definitely unique but seriously some of them don't even look appropriate to wear in public. (My opinion) I just really get bothered by the way they price their forever 21 items. I can find them brand new from the original store half the price wasteland sells them for. The clothes are a mixture of good and alright in quality. Items I sold were later priced higher then the amount I was quoted they paid me out on. They purchased about 80% of what I brought in. There picks are more on designer brands and very picky on the usage of your designer brands. Pricing on Robert Rodriguez dresses range about $120 ish used and in ok condition. I suggest buying new on sale from the dept. Stores and spend just a little more then spend the amount they have items priced. read more

I've been shopping here 10 years, and this was my go to spot for interesting pieces, and now the store is crammed with a very uninspiring mix of hundreds of boring and cheaply made contemporary pieces like Equipment type blouses, Instagram type fast fashion, and a hilariously overpriced nordstrom-esque designer section which by the way does not inherently make clothes interesting or have skyrocketed resale value. I have not found anything interesting or unique here in years. Wasteland used to carry clothes that were special, not necessarily trendy and it didn't seem to matter what they were as long as they were dope. IMO the buyers here are way too inexperienced in their approach to fashion, in that the buyers I used to vibe out with at this store it seems have been replaced by people so immersed in their own persona they can't asses fashion outside their own personal style. I know I may sound like a hater, but I'm just sad this store is not the spot for me to shop at anymore since I have collected such interesting pieces for 10 years, such as my eggplant purple velvet Prada platforms for $38 that I got 7 years ago. Today's platform trend aside, if the buyers saw the prada label today they would probably price them for 2.5x or 3x what I paid for them. As a seller too, I've seen a lot of people's entire haul get straight up passed on even thought I saw some really special things inside, meanwhile the next buyer over is taking some guy's entire suitcase of 20 pairs of knock off Soda shoes. So messed up. Their vintage selection sucks now too, and is comprised of busted ass dresses they want $40-$60 for. Just so overpriced, and poorly selected. read more

Let me start by saying that I love resale stores and have been to many over the years. I just can't fault places for not buying XYZ from me; every store has to cater to its demographic and build its own look. I am cool with that. For me, I LOVE the vibe of this place and what the buyers buy. YMMV on that count, but if you dig a mix of Missoni, Allsaints, punk, grunge, luxe gypsy mermaid vibe, you may be pleased. :) For service, I can't say enough good things. I am a stylist and brought my client here to shop. They let me start a room for her before my client even arrived, and they let us bring her own clothes in so that she could find jackets to coordinate. They paid attention to what we brought in and did not even bat an eye or make us feel at all uncomfortable about it. They also were super helpful regarding items with minor damage, checking the jewelry cases, et al. The only star off is because they are very particular about what they buy... it would be amazing to waltz in and sell everything, that is the dream. But then you'd have a store filled with stuff you don't want, right? read more

If you look at how they dress it's pretty clear they don't know fashion...like the one girl who needs to eat a hamburger dresses like she is stuck at Forever 21 so how are you supposed to trust her pricing. Just awesome. Will be frequenting this place.. It's got pretty well selected designer clothes for cheap. Some of the contemporary designers were super cheap.. found a lace jacket with fur trim for $35 that retails for at least $500. Probably because it was a lesser known designer, but it was in practically new condition and I was happy as hell to find it. Everything else I looked through were priced very reasonably.. the jeans rarely exceed $60-70, most were $35-$55, and there were a bunch of Earnest Sewn, Ksubi and the like. There was a pair by Thomas Wylde going for $10, granted it was ugly but that's really cheap.. I keep saying it's cheap, but I don't mean they are pricing everything like they are giving them away..the buyers know what they are doing. But compared to what they would cost retail they really are marked low, especially since most things were in barely used condition. If you look thoroughly you probably will find something that's pretty much like a giveaway though. I definitely think the store is worth looking through every once in a while. The costume jewelry however were pretty much retail price, current season selection of Alkemie when I went. The shoes and bags were cheap, pretty nice selection too. It doesn't have an unpleasant odor, things are in neat order, nice staff, good fitting rooms, large shared parking lot in the back.. can't find anything to complain about, really. Except that their new selection is mediocre hipster garb, but who cares when there's great secondhand to look through. read more

I am all for used clothes, but wasteland is by far my least favorite used clothing place. What struck me first was the prices. if you're looking for discount used clothing which you'll actually find at Crossroads trading co which is right down the street, don't go to wasteland. when i first walked in i immediately fell in love with the clothing and its edgy cool style, but i'm not paying 20$ for a used shirt. And on top of all this the clothes smell as though they haven't been washed, and the whole store picks up this scent. The employees were intimidating and didn't seem friendly. i felt like i was being judged while i was trying to shop there. read more

Solid 3-star. Some interesting clothes and good labels, but high priced and poorly organized.

I'm not especially fashionable or well off so I was pretty surprised when I made about $100 off some old stuff I was going to take to the goodwill. Nothing designer, just some nicer American apparel, top shop and Zara stuff. The girl even picked up some vintage stuff I bought that didn't fit me. I get what people mean about the staff not being the most welcoming but what do you expect? It's a bougey higher end thrift store in la, and here if you're the one selling what incentive do the sales people have for dealing with your bullshit? Sometimes I think people forget where they are and expect to be fawned over and doted on. Wash your stuff, don't be rude if they don't want it. My only complaint are the crazy prices and lack of continuity in pricing. Two pieces of denim from the same brand in the same condition and one is $32 the other is $58? I do wish the prices reflected used items here on planet earth, it's very disheartening to see non designer pieces here upwards of $60. Sometimes stuff doesn't move off the floor for long periods of time (pricing maybe?) so I come by monthly rather than weekly. read more

Waste of time. I dont want to buy someone elses stained clothing even if it is designer. The music was atrocious. Rap (which Im not usually opposed to but...)blasting with lyrics about F-ing somebodies sister with a stick while she sucks my d----. There were children in the store. I dont know any business that finds that appropriate. Some of the clothes were stained. I dont want to buy any persperation stains whether on designer garments or not. I did see mens jeans that I would have considered purchasing for my sons if I didnt need to flee bacause of the music. My friend had a headache by time we left. Lost two customers that day.
