It sucks to see how much this place has changed, and after what I saw a couple months back, I won't be going back any time soon. I usually go to see their shoe selection because before I've gotten some pretty good finds of Adidas and Nike's, but recently it's just been a collection of fancy converse collecting dust and a splattering of designer shoes that get circulated from outside the case to inside if they aren't doing well. What really put the nail in the coffin for Wasteland for me however was when I saw this pair of "Off Whites." I have seen Off-Whites pass through Wasteland every now and then, so I decided to check this pair. I attached what the actual off white looks like as pictured form StockX, and what was in store. Not only was the print coming off, but the converse logo wasn't even in the correct place. For a consignment store that prides in its buyers knowing the latest trends and styles in designer, it is an absolute disgrace that a pair of genuinely fake off whites even made it to the glass case, and further confirms that the buyers at this particular Wasteland are simply hype hungry designer chasers who will fall for anything with a Gucci logo or an Off White paragraph, even if it isn't real. On top of that, marking all designs from a specific brand as the same price makes zero sense, and also devalues their collections because people start to expect that the designer slide should be the same price as the designer boot. These guys seriously should work on putting their pretentious attitudes into better endeavors, like confirming all their supposed "designer" inventory even is authentic or just a well made Chinatown bootleg. read more

Hold on, kids, this is a long one... I've been going to various Wasteland locations since I was a teenager (over a decade), and this one is now my favorite since the Santa Monica location closed. Admittedly, the racks seem a little thin in terms of the amount of items on them, but I'll chalk this up to the pandemic. If people aren't coming in to sell decent stuff, there isn't much the buyers can do about it. That's my feeling, anyway. That said, I still manage to always find something here. Recently, I came into the store to finish putting together a look for a night out with the dolls in drag for the first time back after the pandemic. An amazing vintage leather and ripstop jacket with "DRAG RACE" on the back immediately caught my eye. "This--THIS--is for me," I thought. I tried it on, it was perfect... and then some random (male) employee behind the counter sniggered under his breath "God, who buys leather in the summer?" as I walked away after putting the jacket on hold. I wanted to turn around and say "Leather fetishists like me, you dolt. And if you know anything about retail, which you presumably do, this jacket would be marked up more had it come in during the winter months." I restrained myself. HOWEVER, after that awkward encounter, I returned a few hours later after a meeting over coffee with a friend, to get the jacket and try to scrounge up a shirt to go with it. I'd decided to go for this kind of "poking fun at Americana and actual drag racing" denim look, and when I saw that there was another non-binary/genderqueer human at the counter, I made a beeline for them. I believe their name is Patrick. As I've come more and more into my open queerness, I tend to seek out employees who are similarly genderqueer and might better understand my point of view. Rather than directing me back to the women's section, we headed over to men's and looked at some cool Western shirts that were sadly all way too big for me and would need serious alterations. They then helped me find a cool, motocross-related men's T that had been cut into a crop top. They even asked about my pronouns and preemptively apologized for possibly mis-gendering me. I deeply, deeply appreciated even the fact that they asked, since I've been struggling with my pronoun situation for awhile, and since I don't bind my chest, I continually get female-pronouned even with my hair up in a baseball cap, a minimizing bra, and a packer in my jeans. Patrick (I really hope I got their name right--I asked when I went back a week later to browse and they weren't there, so had to ask another employee) was really amazing. It's rare I feel "seen," often even by other queer folks. Thanks for making my shopping experience fun, comfortable, and highly genderfluid. It meant the world to me. The store gets 3.5 stars for being pretty limited to small sizes on the women's side (the store is split in half by gender, like many), but Patrick gets 5 stars! read more

I have Sounds and amazing things with tags on them. They have colors and styles for everybody. From shoes to coats, jackets, pants and they have a great men's section as well. One of my favorite consignment shops! They have such a great selection and something for every budget. Some of the pieces are super expensive, but everything is authentic and unique. Service is great, love the staff and the vibe here. Plenty of free parking in the back which is pretty hard to find in the area, worth checking out. read more

This store has a decent selection of items for both men and women. However, a lot of the prices here seemed inflated. If you want high end designer items, you can check out this place and find them for a fraction of the cost. There's a lot of YSL, Gucci, and CDG here being sold for a decent price. However, I found there were several items that were being sold at the same price as retail. There were a pair of adidas Stan smith shoes with scuff marks being sold for $70 which is just under retail. I'm addition, I found some Brandy Melville tops that were also being sold at $20-$25 a piece. There were some cute items here, but I would rather go to a different shop for shopping items that are just as good as the ones here (excluding high end designer pieces). read more

Come on down to Wasteland Studio City, where both your eardrums, and your soul can be assaulted simultaneously by the skull shatteringly loud music describing degrading scenarios you'd have happily died never learning about. Sure it's a public space, open during daylight hours that sells secondhand clothing, but leave the kids at home my dears! This secondhand store is XXX rated and has been doing this for YEARS (look through the other reviews including the word "music", dating back to 2012). And they ain't changing. When I wrote to corporate, I was told that I should "ask them to turn it down" and that there's no way I could've heard "WAP" playing in there because it's not a part of their "official playlist". It's legitimately the only time I have ever heard that song, and it was against my will. So I guess I'm the Manager of Wasteland Studio City now. I'm being asked to do their work for them. If you have any moral compass at all, do not shop here. read more

This store needs some serious attention. I left after about 10 minutes in the store. The music was so loud I couldn't hear my friend who was standing about five feet from me. Worse yet they were playing rap with ongoing use of the "N" word and salespeople were mouthing the words. It was insulting, racist and I left immediately out of respect for my friend who is black. I will never go back to this store. Their employees need serious sensitivity training and the music must be turned way, way down. read more

Yesterday was the first time I went to the one in studio city and was very disappointed. Almost half (if not more than half) of the clothes was from fast fashion brands Ohpolly or Prettylittlething... which I HATE. If I wanted fast fashion I could've easily bought it from those stores. But nope here they are at a vintage store I have much respect for. Not to mention everything there was SO overpriced (for fast fashion at that). Anyways, the one on Melrose is better, has more taste and less fast fashion brands there. read more

I got here with my friend at 11am to sale our clothes, when we got there they said they would put us first on the list but they didn't start buying till 12pm. I'm not sure why they do that when the store is already opened to shop around in. Once it was 12 they called us up and some different employees that weren't there in the morning started going through our bags. I didn't realize how picky they were until I got back my bags back. The items they did find, he wanted to price way below ticket price.. and the other items that he wanted he went to a manager to tell me that they loved the shoes I brought in but they don't buy in size 5 shoes. Makes sense cause I couldn't find any shoes in my size there, also disappointed that they don't buy in my size. Looking throughout the store, it was very overpriced. A lot of their items in store, that aren't even worth the price tag. On the designer stuff I did see what was worth it, but everything else, could be more affordable. They did however buy in like three items I didn't think they would have. I told the guy I wanted to shop around and use whatever I sold towards my purchase if I found anything and he said that they only give checks not trade. However when we went to go pay, my friend was able to use what she sold as trade to purchase some items. I ended up having to pay out of pocket, not sure how that is fair. But you should get your staff all on the same page. read more

I absolutely love this wasteland! I've been to the other wasteland boutiques but this one has the best customer service! All the staff that works there are sooo nice and very accommodating. They're also hands on when it comes to organizing the floor. So it's always easy to shop. The selections are good! Can't complain! Found amazing pieces too!! One person stood out to me and that's my girl Jameca M! Today was my second time around visiting but the first time I met her, I instantly clicked with her. She's fun to be around with, she's so polite, and over all a gorgeous girl!! She makes me want to come back and shop with her again!! This is a very upscale consignment store. I bought a black leather jacket for $88 that was genuine leather! Great deal. Some of their items that are name brand, like chanel, obviously come with the higher price. Nice atmosphere and ppl aren't snotty if you don't buy something. This location is absolute trash. Not only did they sell me FAKE Jordan's once but they also offered me $60 for a $400 designer suit. I watched them accept all items from people of a different race and not accept anything from me and I shop there often. My items are quality as I am very passionate about fashion. They buy from friends. I have been visiting all of their locations for years and in the sales line you will find either old coworkers selling H&M and Zara for $50-$60 dollars and I've seen them turn away people selling real Christian Louboutin and real Chanel. It makes absolutely no sense except to think that the buyers are running a scam and purchasing from relatives and friends they get the cash and real patrons get screwed Also "they "do not authenticate therefore there is no guarantee that what you purchased is real that was a quote from a manager If you can get it over having an intoxicated sales person ignore you and talk to his coworkers about how hot the guy in the tank top is . I have found some great stuff here and really love the shop! However, I am giving 3 stars because of the staff here! I was just here 5 minutes ago and, as usual, the staff is very 50/50 (50% are kind and helpful and the other half rude af). The staff around the floor, dressing room, and security guard were all very helpful/kind. The worst part of my time here is when it was my turn to sell stuff. The girl helping me was incredibly RUDE. She asked me if I have ever sold anything here and when I said "no I haven't" (with a smile) she rolled her eyes and said "uh do you want me to explain it." She continued to give me so much attitude when she was picking though my stuff. I was under the impression the business relies on people to bring in their stuff. If that's the case, you'd think people like that wouldn't be working here cause i'm never bringing my stuff here ever again. read more

I used to go to wasteland to find secondhand designer, but recently it's just become a place for gaudy rejected designer clothing to die. I came in today and saw what was being prepared to be put on the racks and could only see glimpses of band shirts and costumey "designer" pieces. Never thought I'd see the day where i find a flinstones t-shirt for 20 bucks at wasteland while simultaneously watching a pair of gucci glasses be rejected because that style of sunglass "didn't do well". Didn't know Linkin park shirts and beat up Alexander Mcqueen shoes that look like they barely survived edc were what's considered "secondhand designer"... i must have been at buffalo exchange or something. #dobetter read more

Just had a great experience selling today. Thank you Amanda!! It's my first time back in the store during Covid-19. I'm super cautious when I go out, but took a chance to go in today. I was ecstatic and relieved to see that they are being very very cautious. Everyone's got masks, everyone's distance properly, there's plexiglass up for protection, huge marks on the floor so you know exactly where you're supposed to be, they separated selling clothing and buying clothing. I feel completely safe. Plus Amanda bought a lot of the clothes that I brought in and got a great deal as always. Highly recommended going in to shop or sale. read more

Then when you call them out on it they come up with very half assed excuses as to why they priced items so low. I sell at Melrose all the time and always sell 10+ pieces for a decent amount. Came to this location this morning to do some shopping. Store hours posted on front door clearly stated 11am-8pm with no additional postings of a change of store hours. Was waiting outside at 11am along with their third party security guard for over 15 mins just to be greeted by a female employee stating they are not going to be open today for no explainable reason. I asked if I misread any of the hours of operation and she stated no that it was a last second decision on their behalf in a rude tone. Staff here seems miserable compared to the Melrose location. Just because you showed up to work late doesn't mean you can lock down the store so you can get things ready as an opener smh! read more

Oh, Wasteland. The selection has gone downhill in the last few months, the prices are outrageous, and most of the employees have always left something to be desired, but today you really fucked up. A few minutes after I came in, an employee approached me, very apologetically, telling me I needed to check my bag at the register. I told him I only had my purse, and he says purses have to be checked. Whatever, I'll check it (even though this is the first time in over a year anyone has ever said anything to me about this). I walk up to the register, trade my $500+ purse for a little keychain and watch them put it in a cubby in plain view behind the counter. I said to the cashier "it's just going to sit out in the open like that? My wallet is in there..." and he assured me no one would have access. Ok, whatever again. Not thrilled but I kept my eye on it. I also watched how every other woman in the store had their purse while shopping, and one even had a shopping bag. Oh HELLLLL NO. Time to go. A woman gave me back my bag and I asked her why I was the only female customer in the store who had to check their purse - and I pointed out at least one customer had her purse AND a large shopping bag. She said *oversized* bags and purses had to be checked and "it wasn't personal; security must've missed some people." Sure, Jan. I told her that the employee said *BAGS* had to be checked and I was confused why I had been singled out. Wasteland, you are free to have store policies but they should be implemented across the board and not when your staff picks and chooses when to enforce them. Preeeeetty bad business. Tsk tsk. I'm kind of torn with this place. You can find some really good gems here! I bought my absolute favorite joes jeans from here for $20! In fact, a lot of my designer jeans are from here now ever since finding that pair. They have really good quality jeans. There are tons of jeans for sizes 24 and 25! Also, my boyfriend loves the men's section for its classic vintage items, like racer jackets, graphic tees, etc. Sadly, the staff is composed of outcasts who have found their one place where they can feel superior to the rest of the world. I find it really off putting...but if I keep my distance from them, I enjoy browsing around the racks. Unfortunately, I can't avoid them if I need a fitting room. So, just a heads up - if two employees are having a discussion you'll have to wait until they deem your existence is worthy of addressing. Bottom line is you should check this place out for yourself. This is one of those places I just pop into if I happen to be strolling along Ventura Blvd. A girl like me loves a good deal, and am always on the hunt for the next cute thing.... however when I'm here I feel out of place. Perhaps too hipster/pretentious for my liking? The employees are like models, I never see them smile or talk much for that matter. The plus side is the set up here is very organized and clean. They do have some quality stuff, but it seems like a normal store versus a re-sale/consignment store. They also have a pretty ample guy section, which is good for your beau assuming you're dragging him along with you. I'm not saying its bad, but I'm not saying it's amazing. It's alright in my book. Will I come back here? Probably. Will I find anything? Probably not. Do I suggest this place to others? Sure why not, at least check it out to see if you dig it or not. read more

I had a good experience at this location w the staff a few years ago, I remember them being super chill and down to earth but the vibe w the staff has totally changed in 2021. The staff at this location were soooo unfriendly; no smiles, no greetings, even security gave me bad vibes. Not an ounce of warmth in here. Contemporary, chic, clean interior. The clothing selection is pretty decent, but I'm still baffled at the fact that they are selling h and m clothing there for a pretty high amount... I felt really compelled to write a review, which I haven't done for a while. The store has NEVER looked better. The inventory was absolutely amazing. I had that feeling of not knowing where to go first! Lauren and Cat helped me and they are so amazing, the staff is incredible at this location. What I love about the staff, they remember your name, they greet you by name and it really makes a difference. The store is really remarkable. The store looked bare and a little sad before. It sure has picked up steam! I scored some amazing items today. I am literally going back tomorrow as I feel like I missed some goodies. The pricing is wonderful and fair as well, which is incredibly important. Sellers are happy, but buyers are happier!!!!! read more

RACIST --- PRETENTIOUS ---- BUMS. I wouldn't advise to go there if you're a person of color. My ex returned a FENDI clutch purse to me after we broke up. Very nice of her, given that I paid nearly $900 for it. Not being to able to use a purse, I decided to try get it off my hands here. I take the purse there in its original fendi box, with original receipt and authenticity card. I go there and after waiting about 30 mins, I finally go up to the buying counter. The associate explains to me that they give 30% of the value. I was ok with it, whatever. I get up there and the associate takes the bag over to the manager who I see watching me and noticeably uncomfortable. After inspecting the purse, she returns and says they can't take it because they couldn't very its authenticity. I questioned how they couldn't verify its authenticity when they had an ORIGINAL RECEIPT from Fendi and an original authenticity card also. In addition, the customer directly before me sold them a LV bag, no problems, no receipt, no card and they took it. That led me to the conclusion that I was being discriminated against. When I made them aware of what I saw with the previous customer, they had no reasonable answer. I would highly recommend NOT SUPPORTING this business because of them being discriminatory as described by other reviewers and my personal experience. read more
