First of all, the front desk person is almost always late to work, which is EXTREMELY annoying. Secondly, while I appreciate the convenience of the new online booking system, the front desk person is always unaware of the online reservations, even if the reservations are made days in advance. In addition, the online system allows you to choose a specific staff member. But I am told by the front desk person that the staff selection actually doesn't show up on her computer. This time around, Cindy, was my masseuse and she was great. Really great pressure, and definitely felt like I got my moneys worth. The woman who did the facial left in the middle of the facial for a good 20 mins and the mask she had on me made me break out and she didn't once check in on me. So I had to knock on the wall for someone to help me get the mask off. At the end, when I was paying I was still giving a 20% tip despite how horrible the service was. Don't expect access to a shower to wash off all the oil, don't expect a quiet massage room (you'll here the therapist in the room next door) or a space to relax before or after the massage. The massage therapist Lina was nice but I was not pleased. She did not give a deep massage. First she was late then the massage were mostly pushing and squeezing. I got my coupon through Groupon so I guess you get what you paid for! If you're a good therapist you'd know where the tension is and you'd ask if client needs special attention. However the first question she asked was "did you tip your massage therapist?" It's apparent that it's not about customer service given the reply to my review. Pretty disappointed in the service we received here recently. My husband and I booked a couples massage and facial here a few weeks ago and did not have a good experience. We arrived 10 minutes before our appointment time and were told to wait on the seats near the entrance. The staff seemed so confused when we were checked in--over 15 minutes after our appointment time. We were talked into paying an extra $9 each for hotstone, aroma therapy and a salt bag. We were led into one room with not so much as a word before the person left. We started setting our things down and the another lady came and told us we needed to go to another room. She led us to the room and then left without a word.. My husband and I decided to just get ready and lay on the massage beds. 5 minutes later an older lady came in to do my facial while a man came in to give my husband his massage. Again, no words were said. They just started without telling us what was going on. Both the lady and the man kept swallowing loudly or clearing their throats throughout the sessio The man especially kept having to go outside the room to cough. It was so hard to get relaxed because you could tell that these people were trying to hide the fact that they weren't feeling very well. The man kept grunting and breathing heavily and the absence of any kind of soothing or ambient music was obvious. We then moved on to my husband's facial and my massage. The girl who did my massage was good at least, but again with all the throat clearing and loud swallowing it was hard to relax and enjoy it. They used hot stones but not once did I smell anything that could be considered "aromatherapy" nor did they do or say anything about a salt bag--which we paid extra for. For some reason my husband's facial was ridiculously quick and while I was getting the last leg of my massage -- someone kept coming in and out of the room and saying something to my masseuse. My masseuse rushed through the last part of the massage, and they just left my husband and I there without a word. We realized we were jipped over 15 minutes--probably because we were checked in late by that amount of time. Which to me is unfair because it wasnt our fault they weren't ready--we should still get the length of service we paid for. Lastly--when we were leaving. I asked about the extra items we paid for and said the only thing we seemed to have gotten was the hot stones but the lady just dismissed me. I asked for an envelope to leave tip (which was already me being kind after the service we were given) and the front desk lady demanded we give more tip. My husband was pretty upset that a minimum tip was demanded when the service was absurd. What was supposed to be a relaxing time for my husband and I ended up being a really bad start to our day. I paid for 90 minute sessions, but they would only massage for 80 minutes. The second time I paid for a card, they offered a free hot stone treatment. I've been here a few times now, maybe 4 or 5 times because I had a bunch of class pass credits roll over. I've always had good experiences and relaxing massages, and always raved about how theyre good and cheap. This most recent visit, I understand why people would shame on this place. It really is hit or miss on who you get. I arrived on time and the front desk lady was one I haven't seen before. She asked if I would like a male or female masseuse, and I asked for female. I was brought to the room and I like to fully undress for my massages. When my masseuse came in, she must have forgotten something and left the door wide open and was talking loudly in the hallway- bad start and not relaxing. After then, she would continuously be so aggressive or rough with her movements- yanking the blanket and sheet off me, pulling my arms and legs and throwing them back into place, massaging me so painfully, I had to ask her to stop. At different points in the massage- she had me completely exposed and I had to repetitively ask her to cover my bottom/private areas. The first 5 minutes she was only patting me over the sheet. The next 10 minutes she was digging her elbow into my back, and this was so intensely painful I told her to stop. She seemed to have no training, no care, not any bit of grace or gentle movements.] When I complained to the front desk lady, told her how terrible of an experience I had, and now I was not relaxed and it was painful, she completely disregarded my comments and demanded I tip! I gave her $5, and told her how she could improve. She looked at the money, and said that it wasn't enough. After having been to this location quite a few times and reading many of the Yelp reviews I felt it was time to address the main issue I have with this place, which is the Asian woman who runs the front desk. Unfortunately, she sees it fit to be her place to chastise customers who have Groupon passes. Every time I come in with them she always says I could have got the same price from me directly. She puts on this big frown and makes a fuss over it repeatedly. The last time I was in I said it's not up to me to come in and negotiate anything with her on the side and then she backed off. It's always like a garage sale deal with her when it comes to trying to push the soak salt options for $10 extra. A couple of days ago when I came in, she asked me If I would like a regular massage or deep tissue massage. After I opted for the deep tissue massage without even asking she tacked on another 10 bucks. Once again, I had to talk money with her and call her out and then she reversed the $10 charge. I see from other reviews here she's all over people for not tipping enough as well. I always tip 30 bucks for 90 minutes because with the exception of the masuers milking the clock for 10-15 minutes with an unnecessary amount of time to soak my feet they do pretty good work here. Lastly, there was a conversation I had with her this last Easter Sunday that I feel needs to be addressed by her supervisor as it still bothers me. We were making small talk about the holiday and out of the blue she indicated Biden was choosing that day as a LBTGQ recognition day with a very condescending tone and disgust on her face. It bothered me at the moment and all I could say is that here in the Bay Area people are able to let their freaky flags fly and I could tell she took unbridge with it. Such an ignorant take on a reoccurring date that just happened to have fell on Easter Sunday, but why try to explain the obvious to someone so dumb that talks to a stranger with a loaded topic. The other issue is that you can often hear her from the the massage rooms as she is either upset with other staff or customers for their groupons or tipping practices as you can hear her critical tone whether it be in Mandarin or English. At the end of the day, this lady needs to fade into the background, take appointments and the rest but stay away from constant attempts at trying to bleed the customers for more of their money. This was my first ever Spa experience! I stopped by here with my best friend who is a frequent spa-goer. We were on vacation and decided to do a couples massage together. Knowing that Groupon takes a fraction of money from businesses- we communicated with the spa to see if we can meet a middle ground. Which we did! We opted for a 90 minute service which would include a sauna, massage with additional hot stone massage and a shower. Truly such a surreal experience. The spa is HUGE. My husband and I purchased the couples special which included a 60 minute facial and a 60 minute massage. The spa is located on the second floor right next to 24 hour fitness. The lobby and spa area is huge. Not like the usual small foot spa places that I have been to recently. They offer foot massages, body massages and facials here. The room my husband and I went to was the couples room. When one is getting a facial, the other us getting the massage then vice versa. Lei worked on both of our facials and my skin feels great. I used a Groupon for a 120-min couples massage and facial. Booking the appointment via phone was super easy and they accepted the Groupon happily. They mentioned that next time, they would honor the Groupon price without us having to purchase it, most likely so that Groupon doesn't take a chunk of it. They have a parking lot underneath but it was full so we parked at the shopping center lot adjacent and it was fine. Our appointment was at 2pm on a Saturday and we arrived about 20min early. We checked in and were brought back immediately. Our masseuses were Joanna and Mary. I'm not sure who I had but they had good technique and targeted all my knots (almost too well as I ended up really sore afterwards). My boyfriend had a different experience and said the technique was lacking and she kept putting too much pressure on his spine. The massage lasted about an hour and we were hurried barefoot to a different room for the facial. The facials were done by a different set of ladies. Overall, it was much better than the massages. Our faces were cleaned and steamed, pores extracted, and massaged. We also got some type of clay face mask for about 15min. After a couple of serums and moisturizer, we were asked about sunscreen to which we thankfully accepted. Overall, good and timely service. The deal we found on Groupon on sale was $178 for two people for two hours so I really can't complain. We tipped $20 for each of the four people who did our services. However my one hour body massage was almost 50 mins long. There is a clock in the private room so I don't understand why my masseuse didn't go the full hour. I didn't complain however and I still tipped $20 just because I know these folks work hard. And the massage was decent but I've had better (and go the full hour). There are other Asian massage (foot & body massage) places nearby or a bit further up El Camino in San Bruno that offer deep tissue at a lower cost (minus the spa facilities). It seems like every post has discussed the same thing ...the "suggested tip amount". Upon a recent massage, I made sure to read it carefully when I was leaving. I had a one hour massage and for that it said you should leave between $15-$20. Below that it wrote something else, that anywhere between %15-%20 gratuity is expected. Well, when I did the math, my massage that was priced at $69, if I take %15 of that price that's $10.35. twenty percent would be $13.80. They are saying two different things and asking for a lot of tip. I actually did try to tip them %15 percent, I rounded up to $11, and the receptionist says to me while pointing at the tip recommended amount, "is everything ok?" Massage was good, I have been a handful of times and they have been consistent. What is bad and after reading reviews I would agree the receptionist is HORRIBLE!!! My husband and I got a massage and decided to try the salt sauna room. They left us in the sauna room without directions on what to do after the 30 mins, we had to stand outside and try to wave someone down to help us. We asked them to show us where the shower was because we were super sweaty and when we got to the shower area there were NO towels ‍‍‍ so once again had to flag someone in the hall down to get some help. After that horrible experience we went to the receptionist to let her know there should be an intercom or a bell or something to notify we are done sweating. Her response was yelling at us and telling us how busy she is and that she is the only one in the front and can't do everything. Another questionable comment is that she said we should have known it was only 30 minutes... yah we knew but we didn't know what to do afterwards! It was my first time here on 12/27/21. After a day of exploring in DTSF (and skipping my weekly massage in Seattle for 2 weeks in a row!), I had to get a massage. I came across this spa (15 mins from my hotel) so I called and reserved a massage. The facility is clean, the massage room is clean as well. I was not given a sanitizer or a robe as what their website says. I requested for a male massage therapist and I got Leo. He asked me first what pressure I prefer (I booked for a Swedish massage for 90 mins $99) and I said hard. Leo is pretty good and knows the correct strokes, and hits the tight spots on my upper back. The only constructive criticism I can give is that the people outside (in the lobby) can be really loud and I can hear them -- which disturbs your relaxation if you're all about peace of mind while getting a massage. I'm not sure if the women were talking right outside the massage room (when it is a HUGE space or lobby away from the massage rooms)-- that's why I'm giving it 2 stars for now. I believe that people who work in a spa should be 100% considerate of the noises they're making either in the lobby or in the same space where massage is being done, because if not all all, most people go to the spa to relax (and that could mean blocking all the outside noise). After the massage, I was given water in a small cup. I'd expect at least a hot tea esp if paying $99 for a massage. I plan to come back again this week before I fly back to Seattle and hopefully can give more than 2 stars. If you prefer a male massage therapist, I can definitely recommend Leo - he reminds me of a male therapist I used to request/book named Kai at Four Seasons FootSpa in Millbrae.
