Installing of new Water Heater not up to code. I hired Waterheatersnj til install a new waterheater, I was a little apprehensive because of a lot of recent bad reviews, but also a few good once. I made sure that there wouldn't be any misunderstanding about the pricing since a few customers have complained about that. During the installation I asked them if an emergency power switch needed to be installed because I have heard that otherwise it wouldn't pass an inspection since the circuit breakers are not visible from the heater. The technician told me that it was not necessary and that it would be installed up to code. I then found out the hard way that it wasn't the truth and then I had to find an electrician to finish the job. I called Steve the owner who just told me that they don't do electrical only plumbing and I have to hire an electrician. As some other people have written, he is very nice over the phone before the job, but once you call and complain about something he just gets very defensive and not so nice anymore. I would be very careful with hiring them. All this would have been fine if they where upfront and honest about everything before the job. But when you are not any kind of contractor yourself, you expect them to install everything up to code. read more

They did an great job. My plumber wanted $1450. I took a chance and went on line and found these guys and it was $850 total for a rheem 50 gal. Stephen sounded nice and professional on the phone and they came the next day and installed the water heater. I did smell a little gas that night and I called them and Stephan the owner came out that night and fixed it. They do charge extra for credit cards. I may use them for some other stuff that we need. I'd warm water over a campfire before I'd use this company! I was driving on RT 80 and their van was going in excess of 90 miles, swerving in and out of traffic and tailgating. I was driving around 75 in middle lane when he was continuing to tailgate. There was no where to go. He jerked the wheel and went into the slow lane to pass but there was also a vehicle there. Luckily I was watching him and slowed because he jumped back in front of me. He would have hit me otherwise because at his speed and the vehicle in his lane, there was no place to go. I called the number on the van, left a message and received a return call from Steve. He was utterly rude and condescending. Instead of being concerned about his employees behavior, he tried to verbally attack me. Saying that I shouldn't have left an angry message on his machine. Seriously? Hired in the midst of a pandemic to replace our water heater. When speaking with the owner, Steve, to hire his company for the job, I asked that his workers wear a mask inside the house. He agreed and said this was protocol, that they always do, and confirmed they would wear a mask and gloves. When they showed up for the job, I answered the door and both workers were not wearing a mask. I asked if they had masks and to put them on. They begrungingly put the masks on and started their work. As they were bringing the old water heater out, I happened to walk into the house and found one of them not wearing a mask, he quickly put his T-shirt over his nose and mouth. I objected, and said I had asked him to wear a mask in the house, and that I also had confirmed they would do that with his employer. He talked back to me, telling me he had serious asthma and couldn't breath in a mask. I was never told this, not by his employer or by him when he came into my household. Had he told me that prior I would have turned them away and found another company that does not object to wearing masks. This is a pandemic, this is no joke. I too have people I care about in my family that I need to protect. It is my choice not to allow someone into my household that refuses to wear a mask. That choice was taken from me. Both workers were so disrespectful and continued to argue with me even as they were leaving. I had spoken to their employer as this was all going on and he continued to make excuses for them, that they know better, reassuring me that they were not sick - how does he know that?!? I don't know who they are or where they've been - they wouldn't know if they were sick up until 14 days after being infected either. I hope they aren't sick, I hope that we don't get sick either. I called this morning around 10:00am and spoke to Steve, he gave me all the details on pricing and what was required for the water heater be installed to code. I have never dealt with someone who is blatantly dishonest like this. When I talked to the owner of this company Steven on the phone for quote, he said the pricing is $800, when I asked him about what fees, taxes, upgrades etc to garner the worst case scenario just so we can be on a same page in terms of pricing he kept strongly insisting its $800. Because it sounded off, I told him I would be emailing him the picture of my existing unit and its connection for him to confirm everything. After he received my images, he replied to my email "Thanks, we will be there Saturday AM". Their service did not come over until 4:30pm on Saturday. I did not make a big deal out of it since my expectations were not very high to start with. During their service, I asked them what I should make the check out to and they handed me a bill with $175 upgrade charge. I asked the technician this was not communicated to be prior and the tech told me to contact his boss as he doesn't know the billing aspect of the business. When I called Steven, he was aggressively dismissive and kept insisting he communicated this to me and I should have read the fine lines on his website. I told him I do not need him to yell at me about this and I would have preferred him telling me the upgrades from the beginning and ended the call with "thanks" while he yelled "ENJOY MY WATER HEATER". After the call, I heard his employees talking to each other saying he would not talk to her like this if she was a MAN, which itself was degrading. In addition, Steven sent me bunch of screenshots of his websites showing RANDOM prices and wrote that he is "transparent blah blah blah" after our call. Since it was a done business, I left an honest review of the service on Google Review, which the owner called me 10 minutes afterwards to leave a THREATENING voicemail. It seems that this man is used to lying to people then pushing them around when they question his lies. I left a comment on the company's FB page and the owner REFERENCED the snapshot of the text message he sent me AFTER OUR CALL, insisting he sent it prior to the SERVICE (THIS IS ALL WHILE INCLUDING MY PHONE NUMBER FOR EVERYONE TO SEE). Absolutely terrible service from this provider! We had a leak on a water heater that was under warranty from manufacturer, as well as an extended warranty from Home Depot. This provider was the outsourced vendor for that contract. Initial conversation with the owner Steve were very polite and professional. The team that he sent to replace the unit caused damage to my bathroom, flooded two different sections of my basement, and was generally dismissive of my objections and complaints. They were initially unwillingly to clean up the flooding or any damage they caused. When they did clean up, instead of using rags they grabbed good towels off the rack. Additionally, attempts to point out these unsatisfactory behaviors were met with derision and extremely rude responses. After pointing out tile damage caused by them, I was told not to make a big deal because it was "a $3 piece of tile". I do not expect workmen to come into my house, do a mediocre job, and then DISRESPECT me when I raise objections! I contacted the owner who was further rude and unwillingly to even let me recount my experience to him. At the end of the service, I was presented with an ultimatum: either accept their "generous discount of $27 or they would take out the newly installed water heater and leave my 60+ year old parents with no hot water in December. Another local plumber quoted $1700 and said it was a four hour job. When Looking at the water heater I was confident that I could install it myself within two hours even with never doing it before. I immediately went online and found this company which advertised $800 installed for a 40 gallon water heater. I was quoted $900 for a 50 gallon by the owner Steve. My wife had plans and wanted to know how long before the job would be done. I was told by Steve I would be charged only $900 and that the installers would arrive by 2:30. Sam and Mike had the water heater installed by 3:15 pm. Because of high pressure, a 'y' valve to the washing machine bursted due to corrosion. I asked Mike how much the valve would cost. Mike told me $12, but that they weren't charging me. As other reviewers noted, the install was clean and professional. A problem (unrelated to this company) and they took care of it at no cost. I think that some customers must get a combination of sticker shock and unrealistic expectations. Unexpected things happen with old houses when installing equipment sometimes. I feel confident that unless it was a lot of money they wouldn't of charge me. I was charged a fair price for excellent convenient service. I don't understand some of these negative reviews. People should be more realistic. It's too easy for anyone to get on yelp and negatively review any business. Sometimes complains have merit. New Jersey friends, if you need water heater replacement, please avoid this place at all cost. I had my water heater done at WaterHeatersNJ.com and when I have the town came and inspected, I was told it was not installed up to standard code. There is a missing blow down tube (which being the first time home owner, I have no idea what it is) but my inspector said any licensed plumber should have known what it is and got it right. Called the plumber guy named Steve back. He told me he would go back and fix it with an additional charge of $45 and I should be thankful because he doesn't charge me any labor for it. No apologies what so ever. I was upset and wanted to express myself of how unhappy I am to have to waste my time on something so basic that he should have known and he would talk to me like i owe him a favor. He gave me no chance. Every time I was to say something, He went on and said he had 30 water heaters to do a week and he's 52 year old and not taking any complaints from me. They came out to replace my Water heater and we notice the pipes into the old heater were reversed. I asked the installer about correcting the issue but he said if it was working we should just leave it the way it was. The installer said if it was a problem they would come back free of charge and fix the issue. Needless to say I start noticing that the hot water was getting cooler way to quick for a new heater. Despite reading some older negative reviews on Yelp, I found my experience with WHNJ.com to be pleasant and very professional. I found their installers (Mike and George) to be punctual, knowledgeable and polite. These kinds of projects are never going to be as simple as one expects and since we just moved here 14 months ago we didn't know the history of the 10 year old heater. Once disconnected they found the drain was really clogged, Since they couldn't drain it in place they had to move the heater outside to drain it (over 500 pounds!). It's going to leak some no matter what, but it's not their fault the heater was never maintained throughout the years. Despite some mess, they left the area with leakage cleaned up as best they could. Also understand that it is not their fault the codes change. So if you have a 3 inch pipe like we did, you are going to have to pay someone to change it to 4 inches in order to pass inspection. Steve made it clear to us that this would add $125 - $195 to the cost depending on how much was involved. You are not obligated to have WHNJ.com widened the chimney thimble but it's worth the convenience. Beware during Covid: Nino & Owen initially showed up to start work and came to my front door with masks. I directed them to the side of the house where the work was to be completed. They were finished within 30 minutes and I met them outside the front of my house for payment. Nino was not wearing a mask and was less than 6 feet from me. Afterwards, I noticed that they left the water heater's box in the driveway with their PPE inside. That is not acceptable and I should not have to clean up their PPE amidst a pandemic. Cheap price for cheap install that wouldn't pass inspection. Good luck getting them to show up on time. 9a-12 window but they showed up at 1p. During the install when they create issues as a result of their install, they will hit you with extra costs to repair any gas or water leaks that they have caused. I called in another plumber to repair their damages and will seek payment in court. I should have known it would end badly with joint connections when the guy tried to force the pipe to go at a steep incline to accommodate the new taller heater. They will also try to tell you the gas and water leak was there before and somehow you never smelled it or noticed a pool of water. You get what you pay for, save yourself a headache and go with a real plumber that won't cut corners to "save you money". My mistake was going with the cheapest and assuming they wouldn't cut corners. Now I see why the other plumber was shocked at how they could do an install for so cheap. He knew what I didn't, that his job would be complete and this one would be crap. It's like a moving company that loads your house in the truck and then demands more money. No issues with several contractors to remodel a bathroom yet a simple hot water install requires small claims court. Additional charges to pay via credit card. #fail read more

I'm happy with the overall results. One thing that would have made doing this job so much easier would have been for them to ask me ahead of time what the opening width of my water heater closet was. The WH that was brought in did not fit through the opening. After much arguing between the owner and installers, with the suggestion that we would have to remove all the door moldings (I was not willing to do that. Too much damage that I would have had to repair myself), the installers suggested they come back with a different heater that would fit. The new heater fit through the door perfectly, was installed quickly, and works wonderfully. The clean-up was left for me to do. I contacted the installer, and he advised he could come by today to have a look.He stated that based on the symptoms I described, the heater probably didn't need replacing, but rather an easy repair.. I told him I could be home at 4:30, and he asked if I could make it any earlier. I arranged to leave work 2 hours early, and advised I would be home at 3PM. At 4:30, no Stephen. I called, and he said he could be here in about 45 minutes. 6PM, no Stephen. I called, and Stephen had excuses, became belligerent, and would not allow me to get a word in edgewise. I tried to explain that I work for a living, and each hour away from work is lost money. Stephen said he works too. No kidding. THIS IS YOUR JOB! He insisted he wasn't planning to repair or replace the heater today in any event, and that he would do so the following day. I advised again that I could be home at 4:30, and he said that he's "not the guy for the job" in that case, and his people could be here "in the morning" without committing to a time. Stephen was condescending, rude and frankly, a smart-ass. I told him as much, and he then stated he won't do any work for me. I will be contacting Rheem for warranty work with another contractor, and will filing a claim with the BBB for poor business practices, as well as reporting his license # to the proper NJ agency. Rather than attempt to smooth over a situation, he advised me that he bought Riteway's phone number 5 years ago, doesn't use that company name any longer, and to "give it my best shot". They showed up promptly and within minutes diagnosed the need for a brand new heater (even though ours was only 6 years old and without performing any actual diagnostics, just a brief glance at the heater). On 8/26/15 installation of new toilet bowl and tank was not installed correctly. Toilet tank wobbled due to tank not being tighten enough and white plastic washers were never installed that came with toilet. Did not use bolts that tank came with and used their own. They did not use white nuts to hold down toilet to floor. Applied calking to bolt instead of using nuts that came with toilet. They used their own materials instead of using parts that came with new toilet and tank. This will cause a void in warranty. I texted owner Steve and explained the problem to him, I could not sit on toilet as the tank would hit the wall. He was nasty and put blame on me and said I was wrong. I tried to explain the problem and he would not listen or did not want to hear it. He would not answer his phone when I called. On 8/27 Sam the installer called me and he said he would come 11:00 am to fix it but never showed up. I called him and Steve all day and also texted them. They did not answer. They never called me back. I had to pay another plumber to fix the problem they left behind. I lost 2 days of pay from having to take off of work. DO NOT USE WATERHEATERSNJ.COM.
