I was in town for a close friend's promotion ceremony and the reception was held here. The decor, ambiance, staff and staff were all amazing. Our servers were quick with recommendations, and as stated-everything on the menu was great. We had a somewhat large party of about 15 people and reserved the private room. I was there shortly after it opened. It has a very nice ambience and neat decor that matches the nautical and military connection to this place. They have live music, a nice assortment, which is not overpowering, but reflects a casual yet pleasant low-key style. The sangrias are delicious. The food was very good. It did seem to be more of a light meal or lunch type menu. But now it has probably expanded Into quite an extensive foray. I love that it is owned by a retired Navy officer who decided to stay in NORFOLK and open a business here. Update on my review!!! I have been here twice now. I was not quite as impressed the first time but this time was much better!! They've got a new menu, with more wine selections, and more fun foods! Went here for a date night with my boyfriend. It was quiet and as always, extremely clean. Brayden was our server. He was extremely friendly. We had the crab cakes, chimchurri steak, and pulled pork sandwhich. All phenomenal. I read a review saying the crab cakes were mostly filler, and I disagree. I thought they were 85/100. Pretty tasty! Both of our wines were fabulous. Then we got a bubbly flight, which I was able to substitute the almond sparkling for another Brut. Thank goodness, because I don't love Almond champagne. The pulled pork was so yummy. Not overly sweet but just enough. And the French fries.. lord have mercy. My FAV. And the ranch yummmyyyy AF. We took the lemon marscapone cake to go. Went here by default since the other winery in the area wasn't open. This place is owned by a prior military veteran. This is an upscale winery with a casual vibe. We didn't eat here, but the service we received while tasting was the best. The atmosphere and ambiance was spot on. The wine wasn't too bad either. Enjoyed the food; the music was extremely loud and my husband and I struggled to hear each other over the music. I personally didn't like that you can't pick your own wine for flights. Also I don't think the Rose should amongst the wines for the red flights. I have never experienced going to a winery that you have to pay for tastings. Our server was fantastic. I love the aesthetic of the restaurant. It was refreshing, large, and full of light. It gave a type of vibe perfect for a date night. Our waiter was attentive and did everything right. We came at trivia night accidentally and I've never attended to something like this before. The facilitator asked us if we wanted to jump in, but we decided not to because we thought we would be horrible at it. But surprisingly, we still tuned in and had a lot of fun guessing and discussing the questions privately. There were 2 big factors that kind of lost stars for me. The first one is when we first entered, the host took awhile to greet us. We stood awkwardly and tried to look around the front half of the restaurant with souvenirs and other things to buy for what felt like 10 long minutes. We saw other workers peep over at us but didn't do anything. Honestly, I was getting a bit irritated and tried to tell my husband that we should just go. He tried to calm me down and attempted to look for the host. Before going all the way into the actual part of the restaurant, we finally see someone rushing over to greet us. The second is the food. It looked amazing! I was drooling and almost didn't want to take pictures because I wanted to just jump into the first bite! But the steak was dry and unseasoned. I expected more from the chimichuri sauce but it just wasn't.. giving moisture to the meat? It looked like it was drying up and no longer a sauce on the steak. The fries were decent and so were the scallops. The scallops were seasoned well but it was chewy and not melt in your mouth like I expected. Overall, I had a mid experience. It wasn't the worst experience I've had at a restaurant, but I don't feel like this was meant for me. The food was the ultimate disappointment - the fries looked like they're straight out of a frozen bag from the grocery store. Similar to the chicken added on the burrata sandwich, just looks like packaged pre-cooked chicken bits. The food took quite some time to come out although the restaurant was mostly empty. I noted a birthday celebration on the OpenTable reservation but that detail seemed to slip through the cracks. We went to Water's Edge for an early Mother's Day dinner with our toddler, another couple and their toddler. I wish I could tell you how the food was, but unfortunately we didn't eat anything after being there for nearly 2 hours. Not only was service unbelievably slow, there was not one ounce of accountability taken by the staff.  My wife worked in the restaurant industry for 15 years in various front of house positions. She knew that an experience like the one we had is not the fault of one person. It was a complete failure on behalf of the entire team.  While our server was friendly at first, and we got the toddlers quietly playing, things started to turn when we waited an extremely long time for our drinks. Yes, it was Mother's Day, so I would expect a busy restaurant to be a bit slower than usual, however the place was not that busy at 4:45. The restaurant was not busy whatsoever. The experience continued to go downhill. Everything took forever, and we could not get anyone's attention despite our efforts. When 6:15 rolled around and we sat with empty drinks and no food, we had to throw in the towel. It was time to get the toddlers home, fed and to bed. It was incredibly disappointing for the two mom's in our group and as one of the husband's who planned this, it felt like a total failure.   We saw other tables searching around for servers, and one couple seated near us got up and left after sitting without attention for quite a while. I can understand being short staffed, if that was the case. What I cannot understand is that nobody came over to our table to check on us, acknowledge what was going on, or take any measures to make our experience better. I walked around looking for someone who may be a manager, but there was nobody. The server checked in once, probably 20-30 minutes after taking our order and said our food was coming up soon. That was about 35 minutes before we paid for the drinks with the bartender (since we couldn't find our server) and left. Nobody else ever came to our table... not a manager, not a busser or food runner, host, anyone. Lack of accountability in a restaurant like this is pathetic. I can solidly say I will not be going back, or recommending this place to anyone. What an unbelievable disappointment. Avoid this place until they get their ish together. read more

There was little geographical variance, and what they did serve was overpriced all things considered. As for the food, I was a bit confused. I think there was nutmeg in their crab dip? Wow! What an amazing new spot that opened up in Norfolk! This was such a trendy and clean space. As soon as you walk in, your greeted with very hospitable service and can even browse through the little shop they have located just in the entry. Even though they were new and settling in, the staff was very informative and helpful with the menus and even suggested a few of their favorite items which didn't disappoint! We ordered 2 wine flights (white & Italian), Burrata Bruschetta, and the California flatbread. All of which were delicious! The wine was phenomenal! Truly, it felt as though I transported to a cute Tuscan village and joined a local family for a meal and wine. I have to say I was a bit hesitant due to the location, but what a diamond in the rough! The outdoor seating is what tempted me to try this place and I'm so glad we did. Great service. The food was hands down the best food I've had since moving to Virginia almost two years ago. The charcuterie boards were amazing and had a wonderful variety of flavors. I had the steak, but honestly, I wish I would've gotten the pulled pork sandwich, it had a mustard tinge to it and the flavors lingered with a hint of smoke. I am so glad my brother-in-law let me try his. Seriously I think I could eat almost anything on this menu. It is definitely going to be one of my favorite spots and the prices were reasonable.
