Bea-u-ti-ful! a week…read morelong vacation on the lake? uh...yes please! stayed here last summer w/bf for a wedding & family reunion. so. much. fun! during our week at driftwood resort, we... - rented pontoons & took them out to the middle of the lake at sunset (a definite must!) - went fishing - had a ping-pong tournament in the game room - enjoyed bonfires every night by the fire pit - took dips in the lake (which is shallow) - & lots, lots, more! the rooms were clean & comfortable (bed, linens, etc.). the showers have great water pressure & temperature (which maybe people don't care about, but it was a big plus for me). plenty of space to sprawl out & relax. from the person you make the reservation with to the groundskeeper, the staff at driftwood resort is wonderful about making you feel welcome & at home. very kind & very personable. the rooms, maintenance of grounds, & customer service are absolutely top notch. if you are looking for a little getaway, check this place out!

Nice common area with a fireplace and comfy couches. The views were amazing. Cons: The front desk staff seems unhappy and passes that along to you. As other reviewers have mentioned, they aren't flexible when it comes to changing your stay or checking in/out earlier than the stated times, so make sure your plans are very solid before booking, even in the dead of winter. Parking is very limited. We were expecting guests to drop by for a quick visit (two hours tops) and asked where they could park. We were directed across US-31 (a busy four-lane thoroughfare) to an overflow lot. We asked if there was anything closer, as one person is in a wheelchair, but they didn't budge. (The parking lot in front of the hotel was empty except for our car at that point.) I'm giving this four stars because it is an impressive property and the winter prices are quite low, but keep in mind that the customer experience wasn't great.

A beautiful spacious apartment, with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms. It easily slept the six of us and we did not feel the least bit over crowded. As there was a group of us the price really was pretty reasonable for the weekend. While family friendly, it could be a bit pricey. The kitchen comes with everything you need from dinner ware to dish soap. There is a large grill on the private porch besides the stove top and oven. Two fireplaces (one is gas and the other you have to light for which they provide all needed materials). There are two flat screen TVs in the main rooms, another in the master bedroom and a small one in the bunk room. The shower in the master bath is huge and there is also a separate large tub. The best part is the large porch that overlooks the beach and Lake Michigan. It wraps around the side around to the back. the view of the lake and Sleeping Bear Dunes is beautiful. The resort also has a gym, outdoor pool and hot tub. Blu, a restaurant I highly recommend, is attached. There is also free wifi (they provide a password). The staff was also amazing, expect to be treated like an honored guest. They take care if anything you might need, even marsh mellows. The only slightly negative thing is that Lebear is a bit off on its own in Glen Arbor. The wineries are about a half hour away which was reasonable. Glen Arbor is small but charming. There are several shops, a couple bars (try Art's Tavern) and a grocery store. The resort is a very short walk from the town.

We have stayed at the Homestead in years past, but the Lebear location really sets it apart as it is a quick walk to the grocery stores, restaurants and shops in Glen Arbor. My only complaint is a minor one, and it's just that the bedroom situation is a little funky. In all three of the units I saw, the master bedroom was perfect, but the two smaller guest rooms left much to be desired. One of the bedrooms has a nice queen bed and bunk beds and the other has a double or queen-sized trundle bed. I would think to put the trundle bed in the room with the bunk beds (making it more of a "kids" room) and leave the nice queen-sized bed in its own room. Also, the hallway lighting outside of the two smaller guest rooms was extremely bright at night and made it very difficult to sleep.

I have never encountered such expectations at other resorts, vacation rentals, or hotels. Additionally, the owners have a clear preference for individual cabin rentals. This focus on maintaining a serene environment may not suit everyone's vacation plans. However, if you're a retiree looking to go fishing or kayaking this is your place. This was our second summer at the resort and will be our last. Our family group rented 6 cabins, some traveling from out of state. Our group ranged from grandparents to young kids. We are a fairly quiet group that doesn't "party", nor do we stay up late. We did our best to stay out of other guests way and share the communal areas. The owners made us feel like a bother and unwelcome during our stay. We cleaned up after ourselves and cleaned the cabins before we left. Even still, we received emails after our stay indicating toilets were not cleaned and a couple of crumbs were left on a counter. While I can appreciate the owners' high standards for cleaning and grounds maintenance, they do not have enough staff to maintain those standards and instead push the responsibility onto their guests. Overall, Betsie Riverside Resort is a lovely destination for those seeking a peaceful retreat in well-kept surroundings. Just be mindful of the owners' preferences, expectations, and the presence of active security camera monitoring if you're looking for a more relaxed and private experience.
