What's the hype? Maybe it's the cocktails that make Watershed a five star experience, because it's not the overpriced food. The food was good, but I wasn't blown away. We really enjoyed the pickledillies, but they were so small that we ordered a second round right away. They should consider modifying the portion and price since this is by far the least expensive "snack" from section 1. The waiter told us the only thing he wouldn't order was the burger, even though it's good, just because you don't go to a place like this for a burger. He indicated that the rest of the menu is fantastic. We thought about doing the chef's special, but decided it would be too much food. So I got the fried chicken and my husband ordered the ribs. I was reading the menu and having trouble deciding what I wanted because nothing was jumping out at me. A lot of the descriptions included unfamiliar items, so it was hard to know what to expect. At one point I got on yelp to see if any pictures would appeal to me more than the descriptions, but not really. I settled for a classic: fried chicken. It came out fresh and very hot! So hot I couldn't pick it up to eat it. It came with two small pieces of dark meat, a tiny piece of toast underneath, and some pickles and hot sauce. The chicken was juicy and tender once I was able to get into it. The pig butter on top was weird so I let it just slide off, and I didn't try the hot sauce. I was also able to try the ribs. The hay-smoked scent was odd, and to me, didn't add anything to the dish. The sauce on the ribs was tasty, but the meat was hard to get to. I prefer rib meat that falls off the bones, because otherwise it's just too much work. The sesame seeds on them didn't really fit for me, and the herbed Creme sauce that came with them just added to the odd flavor combination. Maybe we would have been more satisfied ordering from the number three section which is more of the entree section. I'll admit both of our dishes were from the twos, which the waiter described as appetizers. These are not appetizers to share around the table, and at face value, they just didn't live up to the hype. I got plenty to eat, I just didn't think it was out of the park like you'd expect from the price. The complementary champagne for our anniversary was a nice touch. read more

This was my second time here for dinner - first time for restaurant week. The atmosphere was wonderful, though it was a little dark inside which might not be for everyone. Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful. My friend and I each got a couple drinks, shared a wing appetizer and got desserts on top of the restaurant week menu so our total cost was more than double what it would have been if we had stuck only to the restaurant week menu. But, I don't have any regrets because everything was done perfectly. My favorite apps were the fingerling potatoes and brussel sprouts. Both the steak (pictured) and fried green tomato entrees were phenomenal. This is definitely a place to go to if you want something unique for a special occasion. read more

Well-deserved 5 stars. We made reservations a week out, and had a high-top table for two next to the bar. The hostess was sweet, the server was fantastic and appeared to be a seasoned professional. We started with the Peanuts & Crackerjacks cocktail, that arrived with a crackerjack tattoo clipped to the glass. Fun. I also love it when a restaurant leaves you a bottle of room temp water to serve yourselves. We felt the Chef's Tasting Menu at $47 was worth it. It is 3 courses with dessert. I started with Beets & Strawberries, served with a creme sauce, and was amazing. My second course was Watershed Cassolita, a great mesh of flavorful vegetables. I chose the Walleye entree and I've never had a better fish dish. The thinly sliced radishes, herbed couscous with grapefruit and blood oranges accompanied the walleye in a lovely arrangement. A glass of Riesling went nicely with my meal. After 3 courses, I in no way felt overly stuffed, and when our server listed the dessert choices, he had me at the grilled bananas and coconut yogurt. The sliced bananas were coated with something I couldn't pinpoint (and the dessert menu isn't on paper), then grilled, and they topped the yogurt. I think there was a drizzling of caramel. My husband had another crackerjacks cocktail after dessert, and I had the Chin Music (alright, mostly because I like the cocktail glass it comes in). But, my favorite thing is how they pulled our great community together to help the community of Houston a few years ago. My special needs cat had just crossed the Rainbow Bridge & I just felt helpless seeing his now empty cat carrier everytime I went into the garage. Seeing that animal rescue items were on their list of needs, I filled Raymond's carrier with a variety of leashes, collars, etc. & drove it to Watershed in hopes of saving some lives in memory of my Ray Ray. When I got there I was simply overwhelmed by how well everything was organized & to the degree that they were able to pull everyone & everything together to help us help others. Their whiskey and selection is good, several whistle pig and high end options. They have an odd location but definitely worth the stop. We ordered the fingerling potatoes amd they were BOMB. Loved them, and Im sure the rest of the menu compares. Their inhouse distilled products are solid. We have been to Watershed for our last two anniversaries. The first experience at Watershed blew us away. We had the ribs, the perfectly cooked carrots, Brussels Sprouts and the short rib. We ended up in Columbus this year again on our anniversary and decided to return. I'm not sure if it was our order, or maybe we had just built it up so much in our minds, but the food was not quite as stellar. We wanted to try different things on the menu so we tried the Johnny Cakes, the stuffed pork chop, borscht, and the fried chicken. The stuffed pork chop was pretty dry, the meat itself fell off the bone, but the stuffing and the beans were too dry and it was overall too salty. Anyways, we still will recommend Watershed to friends and they have some of the best cocktails around! The Four Peel Gin is incredible! read more

I finally got to try Watershed the last time I was in Columbus and it was just as good as the rumors I've been hearing about it! I met two friends right when they opened on a Saturday around 4pm. I didn't realize that we'd need a reservation so I grabbed us a few seats at the bar (which was also filling up quickly). Their drink menus are so cool- they look like fashion magazines. I ordered a Brandy a la Mode and shared the pork rinds and Brussels sprouts with my friends, both of which were to DIE for. Like I tried (and failed) to recreate the Brussels sprouts at home they were that good. My only complaint about the drinks was that my friend also ordered the Brandy a la Mode, but hers looked and tasted completely different (not in a good way). When we asked the bartenders why, they just told us the drink was pre-made and she probably got the bottom of the batch. They didn't offer to correct her drink. Overall I loved the atmosphere of Watershed, the few food items I ordered were delicious and my drink was good. I'll definitely be back, hopefully next time for a full dinner! read more

I'd probably like to give Watershed 3.5 stars, if I could. It has a great atmosphere -- the front bar room area is very cool, while the back room has a separate vibe-- less intimate and hip but still comfortable and good for small groups dining. The cocktails are inventive, and of course the distillery offerings are excellent. The food menu is unique and appealing, but I've ultimately a always been a bit disappointed in the finished dishes. This most recent visit, they were out of three of the most appealing dishes on the menu (this was early on a Saturday evening). We ended up ordering pork rinds to start, which were fairly flavorless (except when dunked in the hot sauce on the side!). The two small plates we ordered to share were very small for the price (1.5 carrots each for $15 or so!), and my entree, a blackened shrimp dish over corn, was ultimately fairly boring: the shrimp tasted over cooked and the char overpowered any other taste, and the corn was forgettable. The dessert was very satisfying: a perfectly cooked and unique spiced (with cardamom!) chocolate chip cookie and nocino-spiked oat milk. It was the best part of the meal. Our server was friendly and professional, though (through no fault of her own!) seemed to be pulled in a lot of different directions toward the end of the night, and we were left hanging quite a bit toward the end. read more

I went on a Wednesday night, made a reservation which was easy. Not super packed, but definitely full. I love their summer drink menu - all the drinks are haphazardly photographed among a garage sale. It was very whimsical. I ended up trying the bourbon barrel gin Manhattan, which was..different. I think I liked it? I am a gin fan, I am a bourbon fan, this was somewhere in the middle. I ordered the duck which was a "just enough" portion, creatively put with a scallion pancake. I haven't had duck in a long time and found it really good. My friend had the vegan pasta, it tasted...like vegan pasta even with assurance from the waiter that this was "just like regular fettuccine". Went here for dinner tonight with my significant other. We ended up getting the Chefs tasting ($49) since we thought it was the most bang for our buck. It comes with 1 small bite, 1 app, 1 main course, and 1 dessert. We ended up choosing the shortbread and Brussels sprouts, short rib, walleye fish for the main course, and truffles for dessert. I really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere here. The drink menu offers a wide variety of options, to include non-alcoholic versions for anyone not drinking. The menu is a choose your own adventure of small to large plates. Every dish was quite good. The only drawback was one of our dishes had Fresno peppers as a garnish (no warning on the menu) and it was a bit too hot for my partner. Servers are knowledgable about the menu and give great service. I went last week for Sunday Supper - $40 for a delicious 3 course meal. We sat on the patio with our dogs and had a great time.They also have a little gift shop with candles, coasters, t-shirts, bottles and more. The wife and I took the tour here this past weekend (recommended by the way). We decided to go right across to eat at the restaurant and lucky for us there was two seats available at the bar (a reservation is recommended but eating here wasn't part of the plan). I must say the vibe and the food was top notch. The bar tender that night (2/20) was rifling out drinks like a machine and the server we had was great also. This place is off the beaten path near Virginia and King, which is a great location. The service and food were great. The place was packed when we went, which was kind of a negative. Very loud and hard to hear our friends. The decor is modern, but dark inside. We enjoyed a couple of their house cocktails - the Backyard Astronomer (loved the tattoo that came with it) and the Re: Vacation (got another fun straw). My friend got the Bebbo. I liked the novelty of the drinks and the Survival booklet, but they came over-iced and a bit pricey. We got a bunch of appetizers for the table to share and we liked the flavors and uniqueness of the Beans and Bologna the best. Also loved the pig rinds which weren't as greasy as I thought they'd be. The parmesean and dipping sauce made them extra tasty. I ordered the Walleye special for my entree and thought it was a bit salty and the fish portion small. Sorry to say I didn't enjoy the side vegetables either. My husband, on the other hand, LOVED his Bacon steak. When they say it feeds 1-4, they aren't kidding! Super flavorful and fatty, unexpected and wonderful. This dish was recommended to us by the restaurant's chef who we met earlier that day at the Flavored Nation event downtown. Our server Max was super enthusiastic about the place and the menu. He gave us a sampling of desserts since our fish entrees were over-salted, which I thought was nice if the restaurant. A friend of ours was leaving Columbus and we suggested a few places, however Watershed was chosen based on the menu and reviews. We were glad Watershed was chosen as we had a fabulous time. I made a reservation online and the earliest time that was available was 8:30 , we were seated promptly and our server came over and introduced himself. While browsing the drink menu we were talking about what to order. Our table of three ended up ordering the four course chefs tasting along with an extra course of Duck Confit. The four courses we ordered were a root salad, Crispy Potatoes, Bacon Steak and an ice cream cookie sandwich along with the aforementioned Duck Confit. Everything was great and we asked and even got a tour of the distillery. There is a shop onsite to purchase the Watershed beverages. read more

This place is a solid 4. The food is pretty good, the service is alright, and the space is well designed and pretty unique. In fact, it almost reminds me of Wolf's Ridge Brewing with the food and the views of the brews. As for the food, the tasting menu is by far one of the best deals I've seen in Columbus. I walked out of here completely stuffed after a four course meals--with leftovers! And trust me... I can eat. We ordered the parsnip and roots, the Brussels sprouts, the baby back ribs, the bratwurst, the duck confit, and the sea bass. We also had the tater pudding for dessert and the Mille Feulle Gateau. So the Brussels sprouts were absolutely amazing. I don't recall what they include, but it's almost a brown sugar caramelization that coats the veggies. As for the parsnip and roots, I really enjoyed this considering I don't always get my veggies in and there was a delicious honey mustard like sauce complimenting the veggies--my only complaint is that the veggies could be soaked in the sauce a little longer considering it takes time for these root vegetables to absorb flavors sometimes. In terms of course II, we were told these were also small--appetizer sized portions. They were very much not. The ribs were extremely filling (and extremely delicious) and the bratwurst was also a decent size. The homemade bratwurst is also delectable and is complimented very well with the Farro, which was almost a risotto like mixture. For course III, the sea bass was my least favorite dish of the day. It was good, but it was honestly just a piece of underwhelming fried fish. The sea bass was cooked perfectly, but the flavors of the dish somewhat fell flat. The duck confit, however, was phenomenal. Some of the best gnocchi I've had was on this dish! And the pumpkin complimented all of the flavors so well. As for the dessert, the sweet potato pudding was absolutely amazing, and the Gateau was pretty good. The cream is much colder than I've had on other Mille Feulles, but it made for a very well textured cake. Overall, the food is good, the service is good (even though we were served our third course a little early--we had about 6 large plates we couldn't fit on our table at one time), and the vibe is good. read more

Had a large family dinner gathering last night. Service was good and staff was attentive but the food was so disappointing all around. I would not come back here to eat again. The NY steak was so salty we had to send it back. The fish was so salty that we did not finish it. Every dish was so salty that it ruined the dinner. Even the compound butter was too salty. Dessert was ok but the cookie was stale and nuts on top soggy. Not sure if the regular chef was off but the food was a HUGE disappointment. It's quite obvious this isn't their focal point. The food itself is good if not worth as much as they say. If you have had Watershed spirits you know they're the best local products in Columbus. It's expected this place would be popular. That for sure is the case since you will be waiting hours to get a table. If you get lucky enough to be seated you will have some more time to wait to be served. Then you'll have the long wait to actually be able to eat what you came in more than an hour ago and you're so hungry you'll eat it no matter how average it may be. If you just want something to drink you can get a seat at the bar. That is if you're able to find one. If not you can stand at the table in front of it. The cocktails are good of course because they use the best spirits. It's not the cheapest which sucks but the quality is very good. The Adonis is made with sherry and vermouth. It's about $8 if you get it at happy hour, which is another reason to come early. The food menu has few vegetarian options but they have a beet salad which is about $9, so again maybe just come to drink something. I would go to Watershed early. It's always busy so get there as soon as possible. The later you go the longer the wait. read more
