We had high expectations for Veritas, but unfortunately the experience fell well short of what we expected. First, I want to recognize our server. She was friendly, attentive, and professional throughout the evening. She even apologized for the long delays between several of the courses, so this review is not a reflection of her service. We were seated at 8:15 p.m. for the six-course tasting menu. The portions were extremely small--many were only one or two bites--and the waits between the early courses felt excessive. Although the restaurant had only about four occupied tables out of more than twenty, the pacing was surprisingly slow. The main course wasn't served until 9:52 p.m., just minutes before the restaurant's 10:00 p.m. closing time. After that, the final two courses arrived in quick succession, making the ending of the meal feel rushed. The food itself was simply okay. While it was well presented, none of the dishes stood out as particularly memorable, and the beef course--the one we were most looking forward to--was served lukewarm, which was very disappointing. One thing that surprised us was that during our entire visit, we never saw a front-of-house manager or a kitchen manager checking on guests. Even after our server apologized for the delays, no member of management stopped by our table. At this price point, I would expect management to be actively engaged in ensuring guests are having an exceptional experience. We don't mind paying $115 per person for a fine dining tasting menu when the food and experience justify the price. Unfortunately, between the inconsistent pacing, very small portions, lukewarm entrée, and flavors that were merely average, this experience did not meet those expectations. Veritas always knock's it out of the park with proteins, this was some of the best cod I've had in my life and the lamb kebabs were amazingly tender in a way I've never had before in a kebab. The deconstructed baklava I found a bit dry and flat, not any better than a regular piece of baklava and missing some flavor. That is truly my only complaint, the rest was incredible and our service was friendly and amazing as always. read more

This is our go to place for special occasions. We went to celebrate the holidays with our friends. I love that the menu is seasonal and they've changed the prix fixe menu to offer vegetarian and seafood options. Every dish is Art and tastes even better. The cocktails are fun and pair well with the food. Wine pairings are available but it felt like too much for a weeknight. There's also a chef's tasting menu that is far more expensive but may be appreciated by people with a finer palate. The ambiance and service are sophisticated and perfect. read more

Given the changing menu and ambiance on a quarterly basis, this review is based on the Thailand tasting menu, but would expect that Veritas would be able to continue to deliver a quality experience as we are eager to return. I love that Columbus has a restaurant such as Veritas that provides a new experience in a familiar environment and brings you to different parts of the world. During our dinner, there were 4 in our party and throughout the dinner, we had our waters and drinks kept full with attentive, but not intrusive service. Even after going to the bathroom, our napkins were replaced with a new folded one. The cocktails were very inventive and on theme with the Thai inspired menu. I love that they created multiple interpretations and didn't just either the local spirit or one cocktail - but really had many interpretations. We had a fabulous time walking down memory lane during our visit to Veritas for their Thai Supper Club Dinner. Hubs and I took a multi-week adventure to SE Asia in 2019 where we visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai and Phuket. My favorite dish of the supper club was the red snapper, but I loved all of the seafood dishes where the seasonings and spices like lemongrass, Thai chili, lime/acid were prominent and after the first bite of each dish, we had to tell a story about our trip to Thailand. I appreciate the drink pairing too and having Singha bottles. Special s/o to the bread & spread starter. That dip was incredible! read more

EXCELLENT experience at Veritas! I went for my birthday this year, and it was much different than the first time I visited a few years ago (5 courses instead of 9/I chose between 2 options for 4 of the courses this time/ did not choose when it was 9 courses). I'm not sure which way I liked better, but I feel like I left more full this time around. Parking: Street parking Reservations: required. They do have a bar where you can order food and drinks, FCFS. They also have an upstairs bar in case the main bar fills up. Food: The experience is 2 hours long and includes 5 courses, $75/PP (unless you go for a holiday-- in that case they do their 9 course menu). You choose between 2 options for 4 of the 5 courses. The menu is seasonally updated. I went for my birthday at the end of March, and they had just updated the menu. Our waitress mentioned that they will update it again around July. Flavors were excellent. I tried dishes and flavors that I otherwise wouldn't have thought to put together. The chef brought out one of the courses which I thought was a nice touch. Drinks: they have cocktails, bottles of wine, or wine pairings. Pairings are $55/PP, and the waitress did an excellent job explaining the notes and how the wines pair to each dish. Service: top notch. Our waitress created a nicely timed, wonderful experience. Still Excellent Cooking, Still Worth a Detour It's been six years since I last reviewed Veritas (I don't review often on this platform), and last night's dinner made me want to post an update from my prior review. Throughout these six years (over 18 dinners at the current Veritas location), my wife and I have reliably had some of the best food offered at Columbus restaurants at Veritas. Josh Dalton and Dan Kamel are hitting on all cylinders these days -- last night's 2024 Holiday Menu was fabulous (the wife and I selected different dishes for most courses and so I got to taste over half of the dishes on offer). Portion sizes were exactly right for us -- and cadence was spot on. Service was attentive and warm, without being cloying. And, as always, the chairs are comfortable and the lighting just right for a meal at this price point. One of the things I particularly like about the way Veritas has developed is that the food experience here changes with the menu -- it's still a Veritas dinner, but the flavor and texture profile are almost completely different. You can go back multiple times in a year and experience different food (take note, Cameron Mitchell). We especially liked this year's Thai menu for that reason, and are both looking forward to the upcoming Korean menu. There are too many restaurants in Columbus where the menu just gets boring after the first several visits. I'm a big fan. Eat here, and eat here often. read more

They are definitely doing something very unique in Columbus and I appreciate that. There is a lot of care and creativity put into the food here. I loved the concept of the five course tasting menu and the service was impeccable. You will see by the pictures that the food was presented and plated beautifully. I appreciated how they timed delivery of each course out perfectly, and the wine flight pairing add-on was lovely. As others have noted, the serving sizes are "light" and you may leave her needing a midnight snack depending on appetites. I really enjoyed the overall experience, but there were a few things that kept it from being a five star for me. The layout is tight and the tables are awkwardly placed. You may be sitting VERY close to the table next you. Temperature was meat locker cold, to the point of being uncomfortable. We actually asked the server if the AC could be turned down. I enjoyed the vegetarian dishes here much more than the meat dishes. I think they have a way with making veggies shine. The homemade pasta definitely needed to cook a bit longer before being served. Underwhelming tasting with friendly service in the heart of downtown Columbus. Price is reasonable for a tasting ($75pp base) but definitely not a place I would recommend to a friend. Food wise, do NOT expect anything remotely Michelin quality, you'll be disappointed. The flavors were unrefined. The textures were subpar. The portions are light for a 5 course tasting, especially for the Midwest. (I stayed across the street at the Residence Inn and got a flatbread in the lobby after dinner.) Ambiance is "intimate" aka the basement of the building with a side entrance... the iconic lobby of the Citizens building houses the bar *above* the dining room. They have an open window to the kitchen but food prep was hardly visible from most of the tables. Plate by plate... Course 1: Salmon & Creme Fraiche - Strong start to the meal, almost a tease! Salmon had a great texture & it was fun to eat in a waffle cone. In a good way, it reminds you of a solid hors d'oeuvre at a fancy wedding reception. Course 2: I had the hamachi+aguachile & my girlfriend had the parm+potato+leek+truffle. Definitely go with the latter & add truffle, the hamachi was overwhelmed by the aguachile, it was like drowning sushi in soy sauce but citrus-y. Course 3: I had the green curry, the best part was sadly the chips on top. As with most curry fusion attempts, the curry had a nice texture but was quite bland. The squash and the rice was in a cool little roll but it was form over function.. nice presentation but didn't hit the spot. My girlfriend mentioned her steak was tender with decent flavor but it wasn't anything memorable. Course 4: I had the cappelletti, this I where I just felt dissatisfied. The pasta shell too al dente for my liking and the flavors were confusing. Corn and truffle sounded interesting but I felt like I was eating jazzed up gourmet creamed corn. Course 5: Cant knock it, I loved it... s'mores for grownups, David Chang would approve. We went for their current Mexican Supper Club menu (June 2023). We ate so many vibrantly fresh and delicious things! Ceviche in a fermented prickly pear jus; fish grilled in a banana leaf with banana mash; a crispy quesadilla with a tortilla made in house from blue corn tortilla filled with cheese and squash flowers; make-your-own molé pork cheek tacos with three different sauces, and toppings of fresh radish, cilantro, and chicharrónes; mango and chile power granita; and a chamomile seis leches sponge with caramel and vanilla ice cream. The drinks were equally as tasty: mezcal margarita with fermented prickly pear, a classic paloma, my first clear-liquor old fashioned, and a horchata with canteloupe to pair with dessert. My husband and I have eaten at Veritas a handful of times now and every experience has been nothing short of excellent. I am disabled and I really appreciate their considerate reminder of where the ADA entrance is and they really do everything they can to be accommodating. The service is always spectacular. I always get the wine pairing with our meal and the servers are all so knowledgeable. It's such a fun little lesson about wine. I also highly recommend the wine pairing because it is so thoughtful and really adds to the meal experience. Oh man. Came here for dinner on Valentine's day for the "Love Letter" tasting experience and writing this, I am just a bit sad. We haven't gone out for Valentine's day in many years (we just go out every other day instead lol). It's mostly driven by it being such a commercialized day, the unpersonalized service, and wanting to avoid feeling like the wait staff just wants to get the day over with. I booked Veritas' Valentine's weekend tasting menu after hearing MANY great things about the restaurant. It seemed like a great opportunity to try it -- I was excited to experience excellent food and service. I booked a reservation through Tock which was a $40 per person booking fee and was giddy to go out for a special treat of a dinner on a Monday. I had mentally prepared to indulge even though we were trying to be a little bit more restrictive with our diets this week. We got there around 7:30 so admittedly a bit early for our 7:45 reservation. We were greeted by a host who was really kind and told us it would be a few minutes until our table was ready. Totally fine and normal. We slowly hung our coats up and I perused the menu at the host stand...reading through every red bottle option and cocktail in preparation for my drink order. Was especially excited to see a bottle of wine from Washington that we regularly purchased as members of the winery. We had been standing for about 10 minutes when another couple came in, said they had a 7:45 reservation and were immediately sat (at a table that was already open and set up when we had walked in). I thought this was a bit odd but perhaps they assign seating for parties especially on such a busy night. Another host came to the stand and sharply asked if he could help us. We had already been standing for 10 minutes so I said we are waiting for a table but the party behind us got sat immediately with the same reservation time. To that, he quickly replied something along the lines of "some people come earlier and some people come later... that's just how it is" which felt demeaning and was awkward. He had no idea our reservation time or my name or that we had checked in. A third host came over and took us to our table not more than 10 seconds later which ended up being 2 seats at the bar. I absolutely love bar seating and the casual nature of it and the ability to have easy conversations with your date, but to me it is just not a place to sit for a $200+ per person dinner date on valentine's day. Call me old school but I was looking forward to sitting across my husband with a white cloth and being able to look at each other without twisting our bodies. We looked longingly at the nice fabric chairs while we sat stiffly in the bar seats that had short wooden backs. My husband has had 3 back surgeries so seating in general is tough for him and I would have asked to move but there was literally no other seat available. Anyway - I tried to embrace the bar seating. Alisha was absolutely wonderful as a bartender. She was attentive and accommodating and gave helpful guidance on the drink menu. There was a miscommunication between the staff on the wine glass that was poured which ended up not being the one on the menu that we ordered but no biggie. There was also an incorrect charge on the bottle that we ended up enjoying, but Alisha was apologetic and fixed it right away. Food was incredible and every bite was decadent and thoughtful. Wish I could eat this exact series of dishes once every few days (but seated at a table and not hunched over a bar lol). Tuna, gnocchi/egg, lobster, beef, chocolate/strawberry/caramel - the chef did an outstanding job. Those are all of my favorite things to eat. I can't say I "especially" liked any of them because if I ordered any of those dishes separately at a restaurant, that dish would have been the one I exceptionally liked. All so good. What could have been a really enjoyable experience with excellent food was clouded by the uncomfortable host stand experience and the fact that we were staring at staff taking water breaks and pulling around trashcans at the bar. 3.5 stars that rounds down to a 3 since I emphasize vibes and experience first and foremost in every dinner out, especially when it's one of the most expensive meals in Columbus. Compared to the other 1 star Michelin star restaurants Veritas is much, much more deserving. Stellar menu, ESPECIALLY for the cost. There wasn't a single thing we ate that wasn't superb and highly memorable. Even the shaved ice palate cleanser! That tasted like honey oats. Our waitress was very attentive, we tend to ask a lot of questions and chat a bit and she never made us feel like we were inconveniencing her. In fact, she seemed to genuinely enjoy discussing the food. I loved learning that she helped create the Koji fermented lemon cocktail. It was so unique and really showed how creative everyone at Veritas is. There wasn't a single flaw in the food. The chawanmushi and King Crab with dashi beurre blanc were the highlights for my husband and I. So much so that we've made it a goal to recreate it. Veritas is perhaps one of the fanciest restaurants I've been to in Columbus, and it really does make you feel that way when you step in. The whole atmosphere of the restaurant suggests it's a place you can go to for an especially fancy night out or a special celebration. I came last year when they had a five-course tasting menu with three of my friends. As a picky eater, there were a good number of foods I personally don't like/eat but were set on the menu, so I ended up just giving those parts away to my friends. The food itself is very refined and it's obvious each course was carefully thought out, but I would've liked it if there were multiple options for each course. I know that's not really how tasting menus work... but just my personal preference. At the core of my 5-courses was a sea bass course and an Ohio "wagyu" course. I thought that the flavors accompanying the sea bass was fantastic, but the fish itself was a little dry. Having tried actual A5 wagyu from Japan, this Ohio "wagyu" failed to impress, and was in fact a little tough. I really enjoyed one of the appetizers and the dessert, though, so I'm really conflicted about the food. Overall I think Veritas is a very beautiful restaurant, but I'm not sure the quality of food justifies the steep price tag. I went in with medium expectations, because I hadn't had a good experience in their earlier location, but this was very different. Excellent all around. The only hitch was finding the place because there is some construction going on in the area. Also, taking a $20 reservation deposit per person (for a Thursday evening reservation) is a bit much. I understand their rationale, but the place was not crowded at all when we arrived. Now, getting to the good stuff. The service was fantastic. Everyone was friendly and warm. My wife and I both liked our wines very much. We started with the pork belly which was wrapped in some sort of a fresh dough (which looked a bit like a Bao). It was delicious, although the pork belly itself was a bit too chewy. The lobster mushroom pasta was my favorite. Oh, the flavors --- I could live on that :). Compared to other upscale, pre-fixe restaurants (Chapman's, Agni), Veritas fell short. The atmosphere is lackluster, dark, and the staff seemed a bit uptight. The food overall was lacking in taste, and I left hungry after the 5 courses for a $95 price tag. Myself and my dinner companion ordered 2 cocktails each and they were not great for the $15+ each. Veritas has a staff that cares about the food, the environment, and the experience of what a full course tasting menu should be. That was truly its hallmark; you could tell they had the vision, passion, and enthusiasm. Each individual and their own expertise in a dedicated dance to serve its patrons. It was an honest effort at an expertly-crafted menu that changes every season. Unfortunately, the lack of staff make that experience impersonal and off time. For a full tasting menu with drink pairings, in Columbus mind you, cost me roughly $300 with tip included. I also ate there on a Tuesday night, which was very slow for them where they have time to speak with customers. I received an excellent description of each drink and item served to me, but it was impersonal, dry, and quick. The food and drink parings came out and awkward times and it was not announced. It just felt kind of odd and off-pace the whole meal. I think this could be an incredible establishment; it already is for Columbus. To be a Michelin star restaurant they need to hire some bar backs that give the main bartender more roaming and conversation clearance and well as the head chefs. For this kind of experience there should be an extreme amount of rapport-building with customers that can turn into regulars. I loved the staff and think they should enhance the experience to live up to their personal potential. That will easily give them a Michelin star. read more

Was our first time there for hubby's bday and it won't be our last! Let's start with atmosphere: It was chic and simple. Loved that like fine dining restaurants the service was on point with our meals coming without kissing a beat to the cues of our curiosity The food: If you're a Columbus foodie this place is no secret. We were lucky to try their new spring menu. Seems they do switch around their tasting menu according to the season and this for really well. It was a citrusy and bright delight if I can sum it up in one word. The amuse bouche was an asparagus garlic mini bite that exploded with flavor. We both got a few different things for each of our courses. For the 2nd course we had the fava with pistachio and every bite was a creamy crunchy delight that plays around in your mouth. I really liked my 2nd course: with the garden peas and coconut green curry. I had to lick off the bowl! The 3rd course I had fergola pasta and it was delicious! Had a nice chewy Al dente texture and a flavor that kept getting me to go in for more. For our main I had the cod and my partner had the lamb. The cod was cooked to medium perfection with a citrusy springy salad that complemented it really well. The lamb was so smooth and melted in your mouth And you can't really finish without having only complements regarding the desserts. I had the rhubarb which had a nice sweet and citrusy contrast with me stealing a few bites of his Boston cream. The chocolate ice cream was so mikjy and mooth and rich at the same time! Also as it was a birthday celebration they also gave us a cute extra birthday ice cream cone cake which was a super nice touch. We were stuffed at the end of our meal! Veritas has been on my "To Try" list probably since the very first week I moved to Columbus. And believe me, it was well worth the wait, because this was easily one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. They were serving the Autumn/Winter tasting menu during our visit, which consists of 5 courses; 4 of which have different options to choose from. Our server recommended we each order different dishes from the tasting menu so we could try more, and that's exactly what we did. I was able to taste 9 different plates which made the cost a little easier to swallow. Below is a (very long) explanation of each course we tried. I. Butternut + Wild Rice A savory, toasty, perfect autumnal bite to start the meal. The puffed wild rice added a great crunch for texture. II. Apple + Walnut + Celery + Grape Under the toasted walnut topping were julienned green apples, pickled celery and grapes, and a walnut aioli. This was described to us as Veritas' take on the Waldorf salad, and after trying it, I'm going to start a petition that all Waldorf salads be like this one. II. Sweet Potato + Pecan + Tamarind When we ordered this course, we thought the sweet potato was going to be too sweet, but we were totally wrong. The tamarind glazed yams sat in a pool of the MOST delicious savory and spicy mole sauce I've ever had in my life. III. Pork Belly + Delicata + Sage Just when I thought things couldn't get better after trying that mole, here comes pork belly with fluffy Parisian gnocchi and silky delicata squash puree. The textures in this dish were spot on. IV. Scallop + Broccolini + Chili This dish was the perfect bite: perfectly cooked scallop, lemon-dressed broccolini, and a spicy Calabrian chili emulsion. So good. IV. Prime Strip + Potato + Root Beer Pair a sous vide prime strip steak with potatoes three ways (puree, chips, and au gratin) and you've got my ideal dinner. You really can't go wrong here. V. Almond + Banana + Sourdough I was surprised by the amount of flavor in this dessert - the almond and banana came through in a way that wasn't overwhelming and was balanced by the very interesting sourdough ice cream. V. Dark Chocolate + Cherry + Vanilla This dessert was so good! This was by far one of the best meals I had in 2020. We were so lucky for a last minute cancellation and got the last spot for the cocktail+ food pairing meal. I honestly could not find one thing wrong with the flavors or presentation. In the same token I could not identify a clear cut winner for best plate or cocktail. The only gripe I would say is that the food comes out mildly above warm (but this is the usual temperature I've found at American tasting like this). I'm Asian so I like my food like scalding hot. But really I can't even deduct a star because everything was so good! I will definitely make reservations here the next time I'm back! read more

Excellent meal with interesting flavors. We had the tasting menu for $105/person. The lamb was delicious and the cod was fresh. The dessert was creative and they accommodated the nut allergy that my son had by substituting a different chocolate filling for the pistachio on the phyllo dessert. The little beef dumplings were the weakest element of the meal as they were the size of peas and so small that the meat inside was overwhelmed by the sauce and pasta wrappings. I'm not sure if they used the wrong bacon but the rissotto tasted of maple. We didn't finish it, my suggestion is use normal bacon but it seems everyone else likes it so it's just me... it reminded us of oatmeal. The duck with angel hair pasta didn't have enough duck... one tiny shred. The dinner also took us 2.5 hours for the 8 courses plus two additional ala cartel items we ordered. The service was good but the pace needed to be better. Their cola was amazing. The lamb was perfect except it needed a little more seasoning. The halibut was over cooked but tasted good. Their presentation was amazing but they were either off their game or way overhyped. All in all I wouldn't discourage people from going there but moderate your expectations. The dining area didn't have the elegance of their bar Nextdoor. It felt more casual than what a "fine" dining restaurant would be but that suited us.
