I'm a decent computer person (install software, edit cfg files, dabble in the registry, remove malware, replace RAM, etc) but lost my Windows 8.1 hard drive recently due to it beginning to fail before I could transfer things to a new system (and hadn't been backed up in over 6 months). I tried everything I could and it seemed to be a lost cause. So for only the second time in my 35+ years of computing, I called a computer repair company. I explained the situation to Dory over the phone and he took his time to listen to everything I said and form a hypothesis. I dropped off the computer, he ran some tests while I was there, and then gave a recommendation which would take a couple days. A couple of days later he said things were not looking good and he could recommend a couple of data recovery places. But the next day Dory called me again after figuring out a method that ended up working.
