First-timers (and out-of-towners). There was private parking and we enjoyed the vibe this pub had. Our waitress was pleasant, but she couldn't answer a question about the entree special and later could not say what the soup of the day was, so I feel like management needs to go over this with the servers pre-service. We had the bruschetta for an appetizer and I know they claim a Guinness reduction is drizzled over it but all we could taste was balsamic vinegar and it really ruined the otherwise quality ingredients. For entrees we had the shepherd's pie and 14 oz ribeye. The shepherd's pie was as good as we'd hoped it would be. The ribeye was cooked medium rare as requested; it just didn't offer anything memorable, and I'm talking seasoning, or being able to top it with a sauce, compound butter, sautéed mushrooms, etc. Why not offer those?!?!? Strangely, I enjoyed the sautéed vegetables almost as much as the steak, as they had color and flavor compared to most other places that seem to boil or microwave the veg and toss it on the plate. The owner stopped by to check on us, and the personal touch was refreshing. We absolutely loved the live music from a local Irish band and stayed the entirety of their show. It was certainly a fun night even if the food did have a few hiccups. read more

Very cool space with rustic beams and stone walls ... the menu has plenty of options. I chose the deep fried risotto balls, and shepherds pie. The risotto balls arrived, frozen in the center, and the remedy was to microwave them. Al dente doesn't begin to describe the texture of the risotto, and the garlic aïoli dipping sauce, definitely packed that garlic punch. I wasn't a fan. The shepherds pie was tasty... my personal preference would've been a better balance between the amount of filling in the amount of potatoes, but it was good Our server was very friendly and did a fantastic job taking care of our table. We were very disappointed with our experience at Doc Kelly's Public House. When our group of six arrived, we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes. The hostess told us we could wait outside in the rain because the bar was full and there wasn't even standing room inside. We understood and were willing to wait. After waiting in the rain for over 50 minutes, we watched at least 23 people leave the restaurant. We went back inside to check on our table, and the hostess seemed surprised to see us. That's when we realized our name hadn't even been put on the waiting list. After finally adding us, we were told it would be another 30 minutes. About 45 minutes later, we were finally seated. By then, we were soaked from the rain and were seated directly under two air-conditioning vents that blew cold air on us throughout the entire meal. Service didn't improve once we were seated. It took a while just to get water, and of the six glasses, five were full while one was only half full. It took roughly 40 minutes for someone to take our order and another 40 minutes for our food to arrive. The food was equally disappointing. Three of us ordered the fish fry and received what looked like three small frozen fish pieces sitting on top of pub chips that had become soggy underneath. Most of the fish was eaten by the time the waitress arrived with our tarter sauce. They were also out of coleslaw. Another person ordered the tortellini, which arrived cold and was missing the sides that were supposed to come with the meal. And a cold cup of soup. We also planned on ordering the Pizookie for dessert, but they were sold out of that as well. Throughout the meal, no one checked on our table or offered drink refills despite the long wait. Overall, the experience missed the mark at every level from the wait list and customer service to the food quality and hospitality. Our group camps nearby and always enjoys trying local restaurants. The food and service are fine but each time I've been here the wait for the food was over an hour. They need a bigger kitchen. The cooks are at it non stop they just don't have the capacity to cook for more than a few people at a time. read more

Party of 6. Put our name in the list. Was told 30-35 min wait. After about 45 min., went to check and see where we were at on the list. Then was told it'll be "at least another 40 min. We finally were seated and we placed our orders. We were then told that they were all out of coleslaw and they didn't offer any other option. We waited an hour to get our food. So, 3 hours of waiting. Ordered clam chowder. Waitress brought back a cup filled probably 3/4 of the way and said that I was a lucky girl because they'd just ran out of the soup. Food was mediocre...definitely not worth a 3 hour wait. We went to order dessert half way through dinner because we knew it would probably take another hour. We ordered a cookie skillet. Waitress came back and said we just ran out of cookies. This place was referred to me by a friend. I wouldn't recommend it. Terrible experience and completely disappointed with how the owner handled it. Took over 40 minutes for appetizers to come out! The ahi was still frozen and the spinach artichoke dip was barely warm. Another long wait for entrees and we were discussing if we should just leave when they finally came out - Shepherds Pie was straight up cold in the middle (couldn't eat it); the burger was requested medium rare and came well done; the veggie burger came dry and the patty was crumbling apart without the cheese that was requested. We told the server about the issues, and she told the owner who came to the table. He apologized for the long wait, and when we told him the issues with the food, he began to give excuses about being short staffed and felt bad that the cooks were "working their butts off." There was no accountability for the situation, and no offer to make up for the terrible food. He just asked if he could get us anything else. I felt the meal should be comp'ed at that point, or at least offer something to show remorse. Being backed up can happen, but communicate that up front and then at the very least make sure the food is good. We will not be back. read more

Waupaca, WI. It is 7:30 pm on a Tuesday night in downtown Waupaca and it is cold out. The choices for food without driving was Simpsons or Doc Kelly's. I am not a fan of Simpsons so Doc Kelly's it is. It was a nice warm room and very inviting. The hostess led us to a nice table and our very friendly server arrived soon. This used to be the home of T Dubs that had the nations best hamburger. So I thought maybe I'll try Doc Kelly's version. I did this absolutely knowing I wasn't going to get a burger like T Dubs, after all that is now ancient history. So I'm not going to compare the burgers, I'll just tell you what I got: The burger was larger than the average you might expect, with a decent bun. The patty extended beyond the bun all the way around and was about 3/4 of an inch thick. It was a bit more rare than the medium I ordered but it actually became a bit more cooked during the time it left the grill. The meat had a flavor like it had been cooked over wood, it was very tasty. The $3 slice of cheese was not noticeable at all. As good as the burger was, it fell short of a $21 burger. I probably won't order it again just because of that. Also, if they could simply put lettuce on the bottom bun, the juices won't turn the bun to mush. Oh well. The roasted potato's that accompanied the burger were perfect. The Duck Won Tons were good but not at all excitement inducing. At $14 they are a no go. The Harvest Salad was a winner, it sported fresh greens, a very nice raspberry dressing and real grilled chicken, not those crappy chicken cubes from a bag a lot of restaurants put on their salads. The chicken was grilled perfectly and had a nice flavor. $20 Was the salad price, I know a bit high, it is just a salad after all. The Cran Citrus Spritzer was excellent and quite tall, fairly priced at $6. I had a delicious Irish beer (Smithwick's) for only $6. The Brown Cake with ice cream was a highlight, I loved it, typical pricing at $8 and worth it. The menu is extensive and requires more exploring, I shall be back. read more

Came here in July and loved it. Wanted to visit again Labor Day wknd but we forgot to check hours. They are closed on Sundays. The drinks, fish fry and service were excellent in July though! They make their own Irish cream and it is so good! Nice little Irish place. Definitely recommend visiting. read more

The appetizers there were pretty good, and the waitress was nice, but the food wasn't that good. My brother's burger was undercooked and didn't taste good, my dad ordered a rib-eye steak and asked for it to be cooked medium rare, but got it rare, and me and my mother ordered fish and chips. The fish and chips tasted pretty good, but all together the meal wasn't the best. It was quite noisy in there, but the space was small so you could expect it. We gave the waitress a tip because she tried to make things right with us and even gave my brother a free slice of chocolate chip almond cheesecake and extra mints, but we won't be returning again. It could've been better and was kinda disappointing. read more

We ordered the haddock/mashed potatoes with gravy because for some reason on a Friday night they had no fries. The haddock was HALF the size of any other place we have been to. But husband said it tasted good. My daughter ordered the tortellini. The cheese they used on top was full of flavor but the actual tortellini was tasteless. My kid wouldn't eat it so she went home hungry. I ordered the chicken with spinach and artichoke sandwich with no bread. ( They offered no gluten free options.) and mashed with gravy. So let's start with the chicken no flavor could have been anything with a little burn on it. Not badly burnt just a little. The spinach & artichoke. Zero artichoke. NONE Spinach well very little. You could see a little but no flavor. Mashed potatoes & gravy about a 3/4 cup of mashed potatoes with some tasteless gravy. So I left hungry also. I was so disappointed! T Dubs was an EXCELLENT restaurant with very good food. We always looked forward to the drive to go there. Now I wouldn't do it again. They talked online about how they got recipes from T Dubs. Well I think it was very little. They claim fresh produce. I don't know their source but it is NOT equal to Tdubs who got local and organic when possible. To say I was disappointed really is an understatement. Even if the prices were half I wouldn't go again. Let's not forget the incredibly sticky handrail. Ate at Doc Kelly's with friends last week. The food was average at best. Had the crabcakes as an app. and it had so much filler we couldn't taste the crab. The glasses of wine were not great pours for the price. For $25 my salad wasn't on par with the cost and the dressing and salad were just average.
