I've driven past this restaurant sooo many times. This past weekend was the day we walked through…read moretheir door. From the moment you walk in, the bar sets the tone--dark wood, warm lighting, friendly bartenders who make you feel like a regular even if it's your first time. Seriously, if I lived in Stevens Point, their bar would be my go-to day drinking hangout. I will note that they make a well made cocktail from their drink menu. Further, their brandy old fashioneds are perfect, and are sizeable. To start, the goat cheese bruschetta is a must‑order. Creamy, tangy goat cheese paired with perfectly toasted bread and a nice garlic topping. I don't even like goat cheese but, there were plenty good. For dinner, Michelle's has all the supper club with the surf and turf classics. The beer‑battered walleye is exactly what you'd hope for: crisp, flavorful, and somehow not greasy at all. If fish isn't your pick, the planked salmon with a sweet pecan topping to provide contrasting flavours and textures. All in all, Michelle's is everything you want from a Wisconsin supper club: welcoming vibes, great cocktails, knockout comfort food, and that timeless charm that keeps you coming back. They do lose a start because of service...it was so slow, and I don't quite understand why because there were a number of empty tables. The other curiosity that I would mention is that when we played the leftover salmon we left it on the plank. They asked for the plank bank to reuse? They're only good for a couple uses tops before the oils are gone...and that is not entirely sanitary...but that is just me perhaps. If you're in Stevens Point, hit this place up. It's worth it.

We had our 7 month old daughter who they informed us upon arrival should have been included as a 6th person. We have never had this happen at a resteraunt and the hostess made it seem like a major inconvenience to them & almost did not seat us. The food was great, but we felt like we were walking on eggshells the whole experience.

My husband and I are on a mission this summer, searching for the best Friday Fish Fry near us…read more After 10 Friday meals, Cattails is leading the way. The place is newer and very comfortable with a great bar, if you need to wait a bit for your table. We waited only 10 minutes and we did not mind. At all. A cut WAY above the rest are the Classic Old Fashioneds, served the way they should be -- heavy on your choice of bourbon and very light on the soda. (Definitely NOT Wisconsin Style.) I had a smoked Old Fashioned that was one of the best I've ever had! But the meal got better! A salad bar is not a requirement for a fish fry, but it sure goes a long way. Fresh, tasty, and a great way to start the meal. We both ordered the perch. I had a baked potato side and he had the fries. Best perch we've had -- light on breading, hot and not oily at all. Service was excellent and we decided to have a second Old Fashioned back in the bar for dessert. We'll be back!

You can't get that every where. That's why we love this place, the staff and owners are so friendly, a great hometown feel. Also they make great muddled old fashions and if you want something different try a smoked old fashion. You go to Cattails once I know your going go back.

Let down, and more than a little surprised by some of their business practices. Never heard of…read morequalifying different prices on the check compared to the menu by saying that it states (something like) "prices are subject to change" in small letters on the menu!! I honestly most likely would not have noticed if it weren't for the brand new waiter giving our bill to the wrong table (who actually paid for it... what a mess!) By the time we got our bill we noticed that it seemed to be much higher than we expected. Waiter wasn't much help, so my wife asked for the menu. Sure enough! Prices were different! Manager explained that it says that prices may change right in the menu. Never heard that one before!! Plus no refills on tea or soda. (Not shared by waiter) I've driven past this place a number of times and thought that a "train car" restaurant was pretty cool. Made a note to try it out. In this evening there was a packer game starting at 7:20 so I thought it would be reasonable to think that we if we were seated by 6:15 I wouldn't miss much of the game. By the time we got our bill settled it was 8:15. And there were only 3 tables with customers! Crazy slow service and our food took forever. I also couldn't understand how the 2 tables seated well after us were done and long gone well before we were. Must have known I wanted to get out to watch the game! Food was on the low end of average. Service was weak, but it was his first week. Actually felt a little sorry for him. He got flustered when the bills got screwed up. Caught hell from those customers too. Made for a tough night for him. Thursday Night at prime eating time and there was one other couple in the whole restaurant when we walked in. 2 more couples came in later. The restaurant up the road was packed. Obviously a reason. Love to help small businesses, but this was just too bad of an experience to want to go back.

Inside, though, it starts to feel like someone's just given up. You're greeted by a messy hostess stand (why?) and other signals of a lack of attention (a bag of linens on a bar table?). The bar is cute enough, giving train car vibes but, like most of the restaurant, could use a good scrub. I'm not saying the place is dirty... but it's definitely sticky. Why are the bar table tips smeared? Shown to the dining room, the charm ends. Vinyl table coverings and laminated menues (both sticky) are anything but special (and like most laminated menus - it was inaccurate). On the positive side, after a wan "Caesar" salad, the steaks were quite good and perfectly cooked. Mine was accompanied with vegetables that still had tooth and were tasty. The prices are not for the faint of heart. Steaks hover around $50. While the plate itself was delicious, for this price I expect a much more special experience.
