When I searched for a place for my extended weekend visit, several friends named places in Seaside and the surrounding area for lodging. In thinking about my schedule and likely points of interest, I figured that living in town would be more convenient. In searching Travelocity, this place came up with a 3+ Yelp rating so I read a few reviews to get a feel of why some reviews described it as just average. When I arrived on a Thursday late afternoon, I pulled in from the Foam Street entrance (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=144&select=x_TiU-XsTrAtzR5hyftdjA) and found a parking space straight ahead. I walked to the reception room and checked in, getting two room keys and learning the elevator is key card activated whether going up or down. I filled out a form describing my vehicle and was given a card with my room # and stay dates to validate my daily parking there for $17 per day. I was given a white paper goodie bag (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=HNeAL2Jy9R3weEKnnFtvHw) that I shared with my friends who joined me a couple days later. I went to my car and left this card on my dashboard and grabbed my luggage to bring to my room. I liked that I needed to use my key card whether coming or going to use the elevator. When I opened the door, I found the room layout (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=qsbBQ6wDtRjYpxkqIBTnrQ) comforting and practical. The size of the room made this family friendly. The restroom is spacious and, given the climate here, it was nice being able to open the room and bathroom windows for natural ventilation. There are 2nd floor fireplaces (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=24&select=ZisWZJSaiNeHKg6R2sLTcg), more impressive in the evening when they are lit (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=120&select=t-aktsle5qJL4q9skF1JIQ). I noticed the hotel sold S'mores kits (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=0&select=GVj4M6OLY2IYDLBnbl4cZQ) in case you want to enjoy the fire pits. I stayed for three nights getting a good sleep nightly. Thank you, Jenn, for your hospitality and helpful tips from telling me about the sea lions, the dining options within the block, and directions to and advice on places that I wanted visit. I would stay here again when I'm ready for another trip to the area.

Hotel was clean & spacious. When we walked in it had a slight musky smell, but a crack of the window aired it out. Close to everything & the night time bars

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION This cute inn is walking distance to everything Monterey. This is important because you don't want to have to drive and park in Monterey. We walked to the aquarium, to Cannery row, down to the Coast Guard pier and we could've even walked to Pacific Grove. Staff: John was the best. Not just at this place but the best of all the hotels we stayed at everywhere. There was a female I spoke to on the phone & she was great too but we only had live interaction with John both days. From My notes: Parking $17 underground. No on-site restaurant, laundry or hot coffee, as there is no "lobby". Only 1 elevator. Take the stairs. Use the outdoor fireplaces to chill. Bring earplugs. Lots of street noise. The Wave Suite we stayed in was a 2-room suite directly above the front desk. You walk into the first room which had 2-Queen beds, then you walk thru a doorway which has a living room (sofa bed and seats) attached to the bathroom. The doorway had no door so you don't have much privacy between the rooms. My husband had to do a bunch of zoom calls while we were sleeping, so it would've been nice to have a door. I believe the "family suite" has a door between the two rooms so if you need privacy, that would be a better choice.

I loved it here! It was a walk to the Monterey aquarium. The location is so convenient. It's also across the street from a rite aid. The staff here was so welcoming and sweet. The room was spacious and clean. The parking was perfect as well it's so nice to be able to leave your car and just walk everywhere you need to go. I would stay here again.

The hotel offers a nightly happy hour and musical performances. During our visit we had the pleasure to discover a highly talented artist by the name of Adrea, who has the most incredible voice and presence. We were so impressed by her and were very fortunate that she performed both nights of our visit. It was a performance we would have gladly paid to see, she is a rising talent for sure. I can't state how exceptional our experience was to enjoy the music in such an elevated atmosphere, relaxing by the fire, enjoying the outstanding craft cocktails by their highly talented mixologist. Schooners is not to be missed, the food is as outstanding as the ocean view! The lobby has an older, vintage feel to it, which gave it some charm. Unfortunately, the check in experience wasn't the best. The front desk receptionist wasn't very friendly or welcoming, so it didn't exactly start our trip on a positive note. Our room with two queen beds was pretty standard, but it was clean and had a beautiful view overlooking the water, which was definitely the highlight. The service throughout our stay was pretty disappointing. I called the front desk to ask for extra bath towels, and after waiting 30 minutes with nothing delivered, I had to call again. They finally arrived another 20 minutes later, which seemed way too long for such a simple request. The shower was also confusing because the hot and cold labels were reversed, and the water pressure was extremely weak. Neither of those things ruined the trip, but they definitely made the stay less enjoyable. We also ordered room service around 7:30pm. Jerry, who took our order, was very friendly and told us it would take about 45 minutes. An hour later there was still no food, so I called back around 8:45. Jerry apologized, checked on the order, and said it would be another 10 minutes before offering to personally bring it up. I appreciated his effort, but waiting well over an hour for room service was frustrating. To make matters worse, they already charge a service fee and then tack on an additional 20% service charge. The food wasn't worth the wait either. The ceviche lacked flavor and the portion was tiny, the ahi tuna wraps were just okay and didn't taste very fresh, and the Wagyu burger was dry and underwhelming. The fries were probably the best thing we ordered. Overall, I don't see myself staying here again, and next time I'd rather book the InterContinental instead.

When we decided to extend our stay by an extra night, our harbor-view room wasn't available for the additional night, but they went out of their way to make it work so we didn't have to switch rooms. We really appreciated that! Parking was also very reasonably priced at $25, especially compared to other hotels in the area. The room itself was spacious, the bed was very comfortable (firm, just how we like it), and the harbor view was absolutely perfect. We were a little concerned after reading reviews about the sea lions being noisy, but we actually loved hearing them from the balcony! Once the balcony door was closed, we couldn't hear them at all, and they never disturbed our sleep. One of our favorite perks was the complimentary binoculars available to guests--they were a fun touch for watching the harbor. And don't miss the sunrise from the fourth-floor rooftop terrace--it's absolutely beautiful! There were just a few minor things that could be improved. The hotel only has one elevator, and it can be quite slow during busy times. We also wish the freshly baked cookies were available throughout the day. They were put out around 3:00 p.m., but they disappeared almost immediately because they were so popular. When we arrived, our room temperature was around 78°F. We called the front desk to ask about the A/C and were told someone would come up. Security arrived and explained that the hotel doesn't have air conditioning, so the options are to use the fan or open the balcony door. It would have been helpful if the front desk had shared that information when we called. We left the screened balcony door open while we were out the next day, and the room cooled down nicely. The only other thing we wished the room had was a microwave. Overall, these were very minor issues compared to everything we loved about our stay. Definitely look for that! We loved having our anniversary dinner at The C Restaurant, but that will be another well earned review on it's own. However, we did have two negative experiences, one was that we waited a bit too long for our car at the valet once and there was an accidental spa charge on our receipt when checking out. The rooms were clean, comfortable, and had a warm charm that made it easy to relax after a day of exploring the city. One of the highlights of our stay was how the hotel carried such a unique atmosphere and history. It wasn't just a place to sleep--it felt like part of the adventure. Between the ocean views, cozy spaces, and local touches, it really captured the spirit of Monterrey. And then there were the ghost stories. Whether you're a believer or just love a good tale, they add an extra layer of fun and mystery to the stay. If you're someone that believes (or not), go to the front desk and ask for the "book". It had 78 pages of first hand accounts of unexplained happenings from guests. We had a very small moment ourselves, while I was sharing what I uncovered about the ghosts with my significant other in the morning, suddenly the bathroom light just turned on. Nobody was around and they do run on sensors. Not a significant event but certainly was well timed. Overall, Hotel Del Monte struck the perfect balance between comfort, history, and a touch of playful spookiness. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone visiting Monterrey that has access to a military installation--especially if you're looking for more than just a hotel, but a memorable experience.

Our room had an odd smell to it, and the amenities are pretty minimal. However, we expected this due to the age of the building. Our only negative was that we were given the first room next to the entrance and stairwell, which was not fun to hear folks stomping up and down the stairs and slamming the doors. On Friday morning, several people we knew were awoken by the "active shooter drill" announcement at 8:00am. I understand this will happen on a naval academy base, but I wish we were warned about upon check-in just so we were aware and not startled in the morning.
