Great chill, and upscale date night spot. The first time we went I got the chicken gyro with sweet potato fries and I remember really enjoying it. My partner got the hot honey salmon? which was also amazing. We came back last night and I got the alfredo, which had a lot of vegetables (I guess a mediterranean twist) and it was decent, but I would definitely get the gyro next time. I also ordered a lemon drop martini, which wasn't on the menu but a simple drink to make. Definitely recommend this place for dinner! I got the salmon and it was probably a top 5 salmon experience for me. It was well cooked, while most places tend to overcook salmon. We also got the dolmas as an appetizer, which were very good. I also really like the interior, very vibrant and well designed. Only a few things to improve on. First, way too many gnats flying around trying to commit suicide in my wine. Second, this place feels pretty high end, so I'm not sure why they need to have TVs on playing Two and a Half Men and Stepbrothers--it brings the vibe down a notch. I understand if there's a game or something on, but lowbrow sitcoms and movies don't improve ambiance when we're trying to have a nice dinner out. read more

Had a fish dinner. It wasn't very tasty and the fish was definitely overcooked. It was expensive too, so I thought it must be good.

We were welcomed graciously and attended to well all through the evening. Food was excellent. One of us had walleye and I had the swordfish with lemon coconut sauce. I don't like coconut so it was served on the side. I could not see any coconut and it was a perfect addition to the dish. Otherwise, the swordfish may have been a bit overcooked. We chose to check our Waverly based on suggestion from a friend. It was a Monday, early evening around 6:00. They were not too busy, but we enjoy dining at the bar, and there were some open seats. The bartender was attentive and friendly. They offer a fair number of draft beer options as well as cocktails. For dinner I had the Arugula and Goat Cheese Salad. This had gold raisins, apricots, cherries, cashews and Goat Cheese served with a Lemon Vinaigrette dressing which was very tasty. The salad itself was very fresh and tasty. I order the salad with Chicken as a protein, and the chicken was just ok, it had a weird texture. I later learned they use Chicken Thighs which was probably the reason I did not personally care for it. My wife had the Waverly Smash burger. It was cooked to Medium, served on a good bun and had good flavor. Overall Service was good. No complaints. Food is average and what you would expect for a Gastropub. The inside is really nice and feels like it has a lot of potential, but we don't go to restaurants just for ambience. AVOID this location! I am usually not one to complain about at restaurant. I fully understand places get busy and most do their best to make customers happy but this restaurant was BAD, BAD, BAD. Let's start with the wait. We were told 30-45 minute wait. It was busy when we got there. Our party went for a walk downtown Holland, when we came back 30 minutes later we were told we were 3 parties away from being seated. 45 minutes and 7 (yes I counted, 7) parties were sat before us. When we finally got seated we placed our drinks order and received those pretty quickly. We then order and wait 1 FULL hour to get our food. At this point the place was 1/2 full and not busy at all. The food was gross! My smash burger was dry and over cooked. My wife's salad had hardly any cranberry's nor goat cheese. So a $20 salad probably cost about $3 dollars to make. There are SO MANY great places in downtown to pick from I would seriously consider any other place to eat. From the wait to the food. This entire experience was not great at all. We've been here before and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. As always had a great dinner and a nice bottle of wine. Shortly after ordering our after dinner scotch we were informed by the manager that we were reaching our one and a half hour time limit. I informed him that we had just ordered our after dinner drink and asked if we could take our time finishing our drinks, noting open tables around us outside. Perfect location, after shopping around this is very convenient right in downtown. We got the perfect table as well, if it's available I'd highly recommend asking for the window table, it's the only one! The rest of the place is kind of dark. Service was fairly fast, our server was nice and friendly, gave us some recommendations as well. The pretzel appetizer was very good, quite salty but we shook the salt off and dipped it in the cheese. We tried the pork dish and chicken piccata pasta, and both were very good. The pasta dish wasn't what we expected but still very good, not your typical chicken piccata. I'd recommend the place for sure, their menu is pretty big lots to pick from. read more

I was at the sidewalk sales in downtown Holland and I thought I'd stop for lunch. The Waverly Stone Gastropub is right in the middle of it all, right on 8th street. When I walked in, I was asked if I would like to dine inside or outside on their little sidewalk area. There didn't seem like a lot of space left, so I chose inside. Inside was a charming, middle sized restaurant. They had a great selection of drinks, one of them caught my eye. I chose the downtown farmer's cocktail which was a tart cherry flavored drink that was quite refreshing. And I settled on chicken piccata. Whenever I see chicken piccata on the menu I have to try it. The dish was not the best I've had but it rated probably second best. The flavors were well balanced, but didn't have a richness I had come to expect with butter and lemon flavors prominent. On the menu it seemed like there was something for everyone. There were starters, sandwiches, salads, main entrees, and deserts. There were some really good things in each category and were it not for the chicken piccata, I would have had a hard time deciding. The service was perfect. My waiter was prompt and checked on me just the right amount of time without overwhelming me. Over all I definitely would eat here again, and it is an excellent place to eat while downtown. read more

I was genuinely excited to try Waverly Stone because cooking in beef tallow is rare and the idea of a proper smash burger with tallow cooked, clean ingredient side options sounded perfect. My wife and I have been hunting for a place like this for years. We've now eaten here twice and both times the "smash" burger was anything but. The patties are extremely thick, nowhere near the thin, lacy-edged, crispy smash burger people expect when they see that name on the menu. I called after our second visit and the staff member I spoke to said this is a "very common complaint". I get that they might just prefer a thicker patty, but if that's the case, call it something else (double cheeseburger, tavern burger, whatever). Labeling it a smash burger is misleading and it's turning away customers who specifically come for that style. Despite that, the burger just really just isn't very good (4/10) at best. If the smash burger was actually smashed (thin, crispy edges), we'd easily be in here two or three times a week. We live close and want to support you. Right now we can't. Hope this feedback makes it to the owner and the burger gets fixed. We'd love to become regulars. read more

The menu offered something for everyone - but definitely a different take on dishes that people are familiar with, which could surprise people if they are expecting more traditional pasta dishes. Had a traditional gyro. Looked great. Too big for me to pick up and eat though. I had to eat it with a knife and fork. The gyro was dry. I had to wave to waitress to ask for some sauce.
