If I could give this place more stars I would! I ordered the bowl with white Hawaiian rice, Aloha Chicken, and 808 Mac Salad. My husband ordered the platter with cajun rice, chicken katsu, aloha chicken, Cajun Mac n'cheese, and 808 Mac salad. As a military family, we moved to Las Cruces after being stationed at Oahu, Hawaii about 2 years ago and have been missing the island food dearly. In the most respectful way, this food was better than some of the restaurants on the island and you can tell the owner takes pride in making sure the food is authentic. The Aloha Chicken was absolutely delicious and full of flavor with a nice char, the Mac salad was perfect and not overly drenched in mayonnaise, the rice was again perfect with a balance of fluffy and sticky, the chicken katsu wasn't dry and had a nice crunch with what I believe was a sweet chili sauce which was a really unique touch that brought a perfect blend of sweet and savory flavor, and the Cajun rice was full of flavor as well. Me and my husband enjoyed the idea of the Cajun Mac n cheese which had a good texture but I personally would've loved it more if it were creamier, cheesier, and had a bit more of that Cajun spice. We also ordered a musubi in which I told my husband I would just share one with him. The owner added an extra musubi at no additional cost so we didn't have to share which I thought was the sweetest and most hilarious thing because my husband devoured his in about 2 bites. Hawaiian food in LC! I remember chasing Wavez when they had the food truck, but they would always sell out and be gone before I could get there. First of all, there's no doubt, the food is delicious. However, the portions are tiny, and expensive. The simplest, cheapest bowl is the chicken with a sticky rice or cajun rice base, and it is 9.99. The bowl it comes in is about 3" square. I would say there were about 8 small bites of chicken in it. If you got the same size bowl of the short ribs, you get two 3" ribs that are 1/8" (about the width of the container rim) x 1/2" wide, and a tiny 2" one. Not even enough to feed a mouse. and it's $4 more than the chicken. On a good note, the owners are super nice, and really want to please their customers. They will go out of their way for you. Hopefully, once they get settled, they'll raise their portions to an actual meal instead of mouse portions. Stoped by this little gem on my roadtrip to Texas from California. My finance and I both got the signature bowl. She ordered the chicken katsu delight and the aloha chicken, Hawaiian rice, Cajun Mac and cheese, and Cajun cabbage. I ordered double katsu delight, Hawaiian rice, 808 Mac salad, and Cajun cabbage. All of what we ordered was very good and I believe you get a healthy portion of food for what you pay for the signature bowl ( I believe they were around $14 each) it was honestly enough food to where my finance and I could've shared one bowl. I will say if you're looking for authentic katsu sauce this is not it, their "katsu sauce" is more of a sweet and sour sauce that you would dip egg rolls in or rangoons in. Still not bad and very tasty but was definitely confused by the katsu sauce. The workers were really friendly and the food came out in a decent amount of time considering the amount of people that ordered before us. Can't talk much about the ambiance since we took our food To-go (also the food comes in to-go boxes wether you order Togo or not), however I would definitely sit on their front patio, it looked cute. This is a new establishment as they've only been open for a couple of weeks but apparently they started as a food truck. I've never heard of them before. The entrance is through the gate and around the corner by the tables on the left side. The "front" door is actually the kitchen door. The food is great and when I went in for lunch I had the Signature Bowl with Hawaiian rice, aloha chicken, katsu delight, cajun mac & cheese and cajun cabbage. The aloha chicken is a small grilled chicken thigh. Very tender. The katsu delight is chicken katsu with some kind of sweet and sour sauce on top. I'm not sure what the sauce was exactly but it paired well with the chicken. The Hawaiian rice is just plain rice. The chicken and rice was topped with Furikake seasoning, or something that looked just like it. I couldn't really taste it. I wanted to try the cajun rice as my base but the staff said the next batch would take 30 minutes to prepare. The cajun mac & cheese was average, but it had a little bit of spice. The cajun cabbage was cooked cabbage that was a little spicy. Apparently the cajun fries are only available with a sandwich and substitutions aren't allowed (?) but I've seen pictures of the sandwiches with a different side. I recommend you try the food but be aware that the prices are a little high. The Signature Bowl is $15 before tax and tip. Adding an extra starter protein is $3 each but if you want one of the premium proteins (beef ribs or ahi tuna), it's an extra $5 each. For that you might as well upgrade to the Big Wavez bowl - it's $20 but you get to choose three of any of the protein options and you get a drink, in addition to the base and the two sides. The only premium side is the musubi cake but it's an extra $3 and it's not included in any meal. I'll visit again. read more

Located at the end of a small strip mall they've done a lot with this restaurant. It has decorative outdoor table seating and seating inside along the walls. The menu carries favorites like Katsu Chicken, Aloha Chicken, Asian style ribs and Musubi. The macaroni salad was perfect, the cooked cabbage was just right. They also offer mac n cheese. With generous helpings of rice everything was attractively placed in reusable containers making it easy to take home anything you might have left. A former NMSU Football Player was behind the counter along with his Cajun coworker. Personable service, good food and air-conditioning inside. read more

I just had to stop in to see for myself what all the recent fuss is about. This recently opened little bistro serving a combination of Hawaiian and Cajun food has been receiving rave reviews on the internet. I found that the high praise is well deserved. This restaurant replaced a failed little Mexican joint in the small plaza at the corner of Madrid and Solano. Wavez Food is certainly small but oh is it worth your time and attention. Inside there is a counter from which you order your meal. Upon entering one notices the wonderful aroma emanating from the kitchen. There is not much dining available inside since there are no tables, just some chairs along a small bar area lining one wall. I found the folks working at Wavez to be extremely pleasant and helpful. The young lady at the counter handed me a menu which explains the ordering process. The customer selects one of three sized bowls (or meals) and chooses a base, proteins, and sides to go with it. As of now their "express bowl" or meal is $9.99. You choose one base (e.g. Cajun rice), and one protein for your meal. In their "signature bowl" ($14.99) you choose your base, followed by two proteins, and two sides. Finally, their "Big Wavez Bowl" for $19.99 comes with a base, three proteins, two sides, and a drink. This meal is a lot of food. Today, with the intention of experiencing a variety of food I chose the Big Wavez Bowl meal. My bowl began with Cajun rice. I then added Aloha Chicken, Kona Kalbi Ribs, and Katsu Delight Chicken. For sides I selected the Cajun Mac and Cheese and Cajun Fries. I chose one of their Aloha Hawaiian drinks (Passion Orange) as a beverage. This was a lot of food and I struggled to finish it all. The Cajun Mac and Cheese was fairly good...better than a lot of casual restaurants serve. Rate it a "B"...good but nothing too special. The Cajun Fries on the other hand were tough and chewy...not good. I finished few of the fries. Rate them a "D"... meaning poor. They really need to rethink this offering. My base was Cajun Rice and it was above average. Rate it a "B" meaning good. The Kona Kolbi Beef Ribs were a little tough and could not be cut with the plastic forks and knives provided by the restaurant. I had to eat these by hand. The ribs were charred on the grill and had a decent flavor, but at the end of the day rate only a "B." The Aloha Chicken was grilled and had a nice flavor and tenderness. It was exceptional. Rate it an "A-." I would advise folks to order this. The Katsu Delight Chicken was lightly breaded and sweet with a sweet sauce covering it. It was "exceptional." Rate it an "A." This is a most unique offering for around these parts and one I'm sure you will enjoy. The Hawaiian drink (Passion Orange) served in a can was refreshing but the flavor was a bit understated. Rate it a "B." Dining out on the patio on this nice day was just fine. Overall, the dining experience at Wavez was FOUR AND A QUARTER STARS...meaning very good for a casual restaurant. With its very pleasant service, nice patio dining, moderate pricing, and exceptional chicken dishes this unique little restaurant brings a refreshing change to the Las Cruces dining scene. read more

The food is phenomenal. I lived in Hawaii and this is the closest you'll get to getting ono kine food. The moment I walked in I was greeted by the wahines with gratitude and urgency.
