I was hoping to find good BBQ here, but that didn't happen. I met a friend for lunch. I had the beans, without pork, greens and coleslaw. My friend had the pulled chicken sandwich. I had a glass of rose. The coleslaw had fennel seeds. They might as well call it licorice coleslaw. I was not a fan and only took one bite. The greens were bland. I put Crystal hot sauce and my beans in them and it was a big improvement. I loved the beans. My friend said the sandwich was bland. I ordered the Pinot Noir and the very friendly and nice counter person offered me a taste before committing to a glass and I was so glad she offered. It was by far the worst Pinot I've ever tasted. The Rose was nice. I've had Texas, Kansas City and North Carolina barbecue and this food doesn't come close to those three. I can't say that I will be back. read more

Father's Day Fiasco! I brought my husband and his cousin to celebrate Father's Day outside, hopefully to enjoy the Way Stations' claim to fame - slow roasted pork ribs. We arrived with our kids around 5:30p (senior citizen hour), and waited in in a rather long line to order. By the time we got to the counter, we were told "we ran out of our pork ribs about and hour ago!" Wait, what? It's Father's Day. Wouldn't that incentivize the owner to make extra for the dad's looking forward to this specialty? We ordered nachos. When they were served, I was shocked to see the "pump Velveeta-style cheese) dripped over the very average tortilla chips. How difficult would it be to use real shredded cheese and just melt it? So not appetizing, and not what I would expect to find in a Marin dining establishment. If I wanted pump cheese, I would go to the Giants game for stadium nachos! The pulled pork sandwich was lacking in flavor and in size. Very average. The cole slaw seemed to be from a bag, not freshly made. I will give props to the broad beer and wine selection. I also liked the outdoor setup, great for families and people with well-mannered 4-legged friends. I know this restaurant is new. I want to see it be successful. I hope that they take the honest comments and make the best of them to improve their menu. We love the concept of a outdoor beer/bbq with music restaurant. Ordered online, called direct to establishment when order did not arrive only to be told they were just cooking it now, food was not waiting for pickup, it will not be cold - but upon hanging up we saw our order just left to be delivered and arrived in 3 minutes cold. I also like the idea of being able to order the littles just a slider which is really the perfect size for them. I had the pulled pork sando, smallerish portion and very delicious pork and bbq sauce with yummy seasoning on a brioche type bun, if your really hungry get 2 if thats the only thing your getting? why is pulled pork always cold , got a salad generous portion , good dressing. Well, this is a fun little stop and eat in Fairfax...sorta just fun being in Fairfax...my first time at this eatery. I had the pork sliders and the meat was very good with the house made BBQ sauce but the buns were stale or old. You can refresh day old buns with a little butter and put on the grill. I wouldn't be nit pickin' this if were a full meal, but the bun is one of TWO ingredients in this sandwich! With three owners milling about, someone should pay attention to what's coming out of the kitchen...even something as simple as a pork slider. Stopped here on my way home Friday evening to pick up a quick dinner for 2. I arrived before my order was ready (the hubby called it in from home) so I had to hang around a few minutes. The staff were friendly and welcoming while I waited. But the food was not quite what I had hoped for. Although Way Station has been around a while this was my first visit. We ordered a rack of ribs, the brisket combo, and a green salad. So full disclosure: I'm from the South so my BBQ standards may be unnaturally high. Upon opening the brisket I was disappointed by the unappealing grey color possibly caused by the brisket being portioned and wrapped in foil Well ahead of serving time. But I was not deterred by that and pressed on only to find the flavor was VERY bland. I had to add all the sauce provided and the flavor was still not great. It was wet but not necessarily moist, almost like liquid was added after it was portioned. It was very tender, however. But that hardly made up for bland, grey and dry. I didn't finish the brisket. That rarely happens. The ribs were also an unfortunate disappointment. The rub which contained way too much paprika and/or chili powder was caked on. But again, the actual meat had ver little flavor. And again, the meat was wet but not moist. There was quite a lot of liquid inside the foil when I opened it. The green salad was forgettable; tomatoes, lettuce and corn. It did contain fresh white corn which was a nice touch. But the lettuce appeared to have been poured out of a bag. The spicy BBQ dressing was yummy. They do have a nice beer and wine selection. And their outdoor dinning area is comfortable. I would go again to have a snack and a drink. But this was not the BBQ heaven I was looking for. read more

While the tap numbers are limited, what they carry is a good selection of unique beers, not the typical selection of West Coast IPA's that one see's everywhere else. I really wanted to like this place. It was a nice day and the place didn't seem very busy. We ordered a Caesar Salad and my boyfriend ordered a sandwich w/ fries (we paid $48). We waited 30 minutes for the food which was surprising. My salad came on a paper plate but looked more like a cheap/gross airport salad. It had old looking lettuce with cold chicken on top. They squirted bb'q sauce across the top of the chicken. The whole experience was totally disappointing. I ended up coming home to make lunch after because I didn't eat much of the food. This is a fantastic spot! Ribs are great and so are the pies! They often experiment with different dishes (going back in a couple weeks to try out their tri tip)! Stopped in on the way home from a hike. Loved the outdoor patio and the music, but the food was terrible. I had a Cesar salad with chicken. Not sure how one can mess that up, but the dressing was flavorless and the chicken tasted like it had been simmered in Tabasco sauce - slightly peppery, but not good. Really the worst salad I've ever had, and I eat a LOT of salads. I couldn't eat it. My husband had the brisket, which I thought was OK, but he said it was one of the worst briskets he's had (he loves BBQ). And the mac & cheese was a firm square of mostly pasta. Maybe some people like it that way, but I prefer my M&C to have some give and to taste like cheese. The pretzel we shared was the only thing that was good, but the cheese sauce they served it with was drippy and grainy. Won't be going back. read more

3rd time here and equally impressed every time. The food is actually very good. The ribs are Smokey and fall-off-the-bone amazing! You add the BBQ sauce to your liking. If you like IPA's, please try the Bare Bottle on tap. It's on the fruity side and You won't regret it! My wife was very happy with her wheat beer selection on tap. The service is efficient and friendly. We sat outside with our dog while our kids played corn hole and super-sized Jenga! Some people were watching sports on the screen inside. Mediocre BBQ: dry sliders, both pork and chicken; bread was on the stale side. Without mention on menu, the coleslaw is LOADED WITH FENNEL. (Why??) Austere appearance. Right next to very busy and noisy road. They provide tiny 8oz plastic cups for water, but you can ask for a 16oz. The service was okay, except they forgot to bring one of my friends' orders and he had to go back and ask. Be careful of steel paper towel dispensers on tables- they can come apart if lifted from top... the heavy steel base fell off and sliced open my finger to the bone. read more
