Way Up Art and Frame has great service and attention to detail. We had wanted an international threading artwork to be framed with a single mat and outlined frame to put on top of the fireplace, but didn't know where to start. Way Up had pre-selected and well-priced deluxe packages (for labor, framing, mats, and glass casing) to choose from which made the process much easier. You can also go outside of the pricing packages for more customization but we had no need to go to that extent. The framing was done in a timely manner and I received good notification when it was done! To add to the level of service, a week after hanging my painting on the wall, it seemed to have slipped the nail one night and fell, severely chipping the based of the frame. The nail positioning was my own mistake; I was shocked and worried about having to pay again for the full frame. I took it back in to Way Up, explained the situation, and Sierra and the team did an amazing job re-framing it in less than a week and at a small fraction of the original cost. I will definitely be thinking of Way Up Art and Frame for my future artwork and framing needs! read more

I was blown away by the extremely friendly service I received from the business' owner when I brought in a nursery art poster to be framed. I had some ideas about matting color and frame color, but the process was extremely collaborative. Some gentle suggestions were offered with expertise that minimized the chances of drowning out the features of the art. He took his time to lay out lots of different options before I made my selections. Ultimately I am thrilled with how the piece turned out. This business provided me with professional consultation on matting and frames. The result is a museum-quality hanging that exceeded my expectations. I entered the shop with a a worn poster board wall hanging, a decade old, that was headed to the trash. I rescued it for its beauty and after a thorough cleaning brought it in to be framed. I received professional consultation on matting, with the employee riffling through hundreds of colours until he settled on one that referenced the tones and technology of the image. After a discussion of frames and glass, my order was placed. While I awaited the finished product, I had concerns about the framing of the artwork. Would the logos and text be too close to the matting? Would the crushed backing that held the poster board cause issues with framing. The final result was flawless. The attention to matting colour, frame, and glass transformed the poster board into art. The placement of the matting provided the perfect amount of whitespace around logo and text. My go-to store for most of my art supplies. "I LOVE THIS STORE" - again, my go to store... especially any hard to find stuff! Great pricing, superb help - Shakeeb is very attentive to anyone that walks through the door - if you need something, he's there to help you dig for it as he knows every crack and corner...and if he doesn't have it - he will order it. Plus my daughter adores him (as he's a father - also with little one) he dotes on my little one - she asks to pop in every time we drive by and when there, she spends most of the time talking his ears off. I want to emphasize that Way Ups prices, for a small local store...you would expect there to be a huge mark up - but the prices there are very competitive - many times lower than what I can find at other stores or online - and they carry very quality (some actually very hard to find also) materials... for example: - Robert Bateman sketchbooks. For anyone that has not used one (which are very difficult to find elsewhere) at spiral bound, very thick stock - smooth like bristol, and great for illustrating. My favorite - and they also carry very high end Rendr sketchbooks by Cresent. These are absolutely "bleed proof" - I mean you can paint! on these and it will not bleed....and Way Up carries them at prices lower than anywhere else you can find - cheaper than Dick Blick bulk stores. He has these in bulk of various sizes - they are excellent. The above examples are just a few of the great finds there. Great prices on paints, pens, canvas (another goodie that's priced well), just about everything packed into that store - Copic and Prismacolor pens, Molotov and Sharpies galore, acrylics, screen and block printing supplies, etc, etc...everything! Plus, Way Up usually has some good sales on items - I mean great mark downs to take advantage of. PLUS...great repeat buyer reward program - spend a bit, you get some in return. For art supplies, hands down better than the huge chain stores like Micheal's. Better prices, better materials, better quality by far. read more

If I come back here, it'll be for the supplies. This place stocks paint supplies that Michaels doesn't. Having been to the store in Brentwood, I loved the selection there and the owner, Shakeeb was super welcoming and helpful. However, the woman tending shop at this location was kind of off-putting. She said hi and seemed friendly when we walked in, but that changed when I asked for some help. She was dismissive and had her tone was less than appreciated. I was looking for a couple of specific items and while I understand that stores can only stock so many items, she acted inconvenienced by my questions and annoyed that I'm asking about what is available. Definitely did not like her attitude when she said "Well good luck finding that." I want to support local business as much as I can and that's why I'm asking. I'm hoping that this isn't a common occurrence and that she was just having an off day. Whatever it is, I hope her mood improves. read more

Great place for supplies. I know many come in for the custom framing, but I can tell you that this place has some of the best professional artists supplies available. AND...if they don't have it, they will order it for you. They also carry some of the best illustration paper and sketchbooks - i.e.: Robert Bateman spirals, which are some of the best for illustrators - very smooth similar to bristol and non-bleed. They also carry a great selection of paint, brushes, pens, etc. Just a great place. Prices are always pretty good - and even if something may be a little more than what you can order at some huge supply house online, you don't have to wait - and plus Way Up is a cornerstone business in downtown Livermore...so support them. They also host all types of classes and misc...have yet to take part in these, but hope to at some point. Staff is always the greatest - friendly - professional. Came back for the second time after a 5 year hiatus and it was just as great as my last experience! They always have sales going on so all the supplies I needed were very affordable. The sales associate spent a lot of time helping me pick out the right acrylic paints and answered all my questions with patience. They have a reward program now too! It's free to sign-up, they just enter your name, e-mail, and phone number into their system so you don't even have to fill out any forms (love that!!). I don't remember what the reward is but you get it for every $100 you spend in-store. I am definitely coming here instead of larger art supply chain stores. They are more knowledgeable about the products they are selling and aren't just there as a retail drone working for minimum wage. Thank you for the great experience :) read more

I have used this place on several occasions and they always do a fantastic job! When I had a hard time deciding they took their time with me and helped me until I was happy. Even when price became an issue there was an alternate option (frame from the retail section) that allowed me to lower the price on one item in order to get a pricy custom option I wanted on the other. Way overpriced! I love going to mom and pop shops because I like supporting local small businesses but it's always a hit or miss. Came in a few weeks ago with a signed record i had spent quite a bit of money on and wanted to frame it but was shocked when I was quoted at $550. Granted, the shop was very nice and the designs we planned out were good looking but I still just couldn't justify paying that for something I could do myself if I absolutely had to. The owner was really helpful he took the time to sit with me and lay everything out but still even after quoting me for the basic stuff (no museum glass, plastic frames, etc.) it only went down to a little under $400. I'm sorry but I ended up taking it to Michael's in Dublin and they did the same exact thing for $200 and that was with museum glass and a nice wood frame and suede backgrounds. read more

I called for a custom made frame for my flat panel TV which hangs on our family room wall. Shakeeb was so friendly and helpful and understood exactly the concept I wanted. Here's the great part...he took the measurements over the phone, text'd me some sample frames and built the thing in 1 day for a reasonable price. How's that for service! As a contrasting story...I had just had two pieces for art work framed my Richard's and it took 3 trips into the place for them to get the order correct and 6 weeks for the frame to be made. This place should get negative stars. The worse customer service I have ever had and I have lived all over the world. I was told about this store by another ART store in livermore. Micheals and the other store didint have the brand I needed. The young man who works there was very helpfull and informed me on questions I had. He didint seem to know about the Art College I am attending(strange). Not more then a minute after he leaves me to compare the paint shades i want to buy a woman walks up to me. This store is very small and I am very sure she knew the guy just talked to me. She walks up and asks if i need help. I tell her no and the young man just helped me. She stands there for 2-3 minutes just looking at me! she leaves but less then a minute later she walks by again and looks at my hands. I am feeling very uncomptable at this time and I know whats going on. about 2-3 minutes pass and I see someones head loking around the shelf.( spying on me) another few minutes pass and she walks up to me again asking if i need assistance! I tell her no and I am picking out my colors. A few more minutes pass and i see her head poking around the shelf again!! By this time I am very pissed and its clear whats going on. I am satisfied with my color choices and walks around the very small store. I am in an aisle when she comes speed walking down the main aisle. her shoes actually made a sound from stopping so fast! She stares at me before even talking. Problly looking at me up and down to see if i have stuff in my pockets. Then she askes if she could get the paint tubes i have and put them behind the counter! She also asked what brand they were and how many I hand! I tell her no thank you and i can carry them just fine. She stands there staring at me for about 5 minutes not saying one word after. I ended up buying about $35 in paint, but wish i didint. They were the only store in the area that had the paint I was working with. The owner helped him choose the most economical quality products and when he came up a little shy with cash, helped him further.
