Wayback Burgers is OK, hence the 3 stars. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here, but it's also not the worst place in the world. We ordered take-out, so I can't comment on the inside of the restaurant. We ordered two burgers - a double bacon cheeseburger and a regular cheeseburger. In my opinion, the burgers were perfectly cooked, not greasy, hot, and most of all, juicy. I wish the burgers were larger in size, but I guess size isn't everything. We also ordered chicken fingers and onion rings. The onion rings were below average and the chicken fingers were just about average. Again, it's not terrible, but it's nothing to brag about. I ordered ahead of time as I was leaving West Chester. I saw that it was going to take longer than I thought, so I did a quick errand and showed up 5 minutes before my order was supposed to be ready. I come in. There is not a single other customer. My order is not sitting at the order pickup and there is no burger on the grill or fry basket down. They ask me if I am picking up an order, and I say yes. They ask what order and I tell them. They then tell me it will be just a few minutes. I watch as the two chatting employees now throw my burger on the grill and get out the fries and rings for my O'fries. It is now several minutes past the already long time to pick up my order. Don't waste your money !!!! Was there today, the burger is no different than a McDonalds burger, same size, little meat, not much taste. Fries were bland and rubbery. Shake was okay, best part of the meal. To think the regular single burger, fries and shake only cost $20 !!!! By the way, they will ask if you want whipped cream on the shake, if you say yes they charge you 50 cents for the cream. Complete rip offs, the place and food sucks!! I wish I could give this zero stars. I've never eaten here before I will not be returning. The only salvageable part of this order was the side of mediocre Wayback gold sauce. I ordered the Impossible Melt and O'Fries. The o'fries barely had 2.5 onion rings and most of them were burnt. I guess the fries were okay, relatively speaking. The impossible melt was DISGUSTING. I'm a fan of impossible patties, and this patty wasn't bad. It was the overall product. It was missing the grilled onions which were a critical ingredient. The melted swiss cheese was hard like leather and impossible (no pun intended) to eat. And what sauces? there was like a smear of them that you couldn't even taste thanks to the buns drenched in grease. I definitely did not even attempt to finish this. read more

WORST MEAL EVER!!! Placed an order online for pick up...arrived at appointed time only to find out that my order "never went through" but yet they saw I had placed an order....gave a half assed "sorry" and said it would be ready in under 5 minutes. As I waited several other people came in for pick up and they gave the same excuse. Finally got my order home and was so disappointed I ended up throwing it out. I ordered "O'fries" and the fries were cold and stale and the onion rings (there were only 2) were way overcooked. The burger was so thin I couldn't even taste it with the bun (granted I ordered a single...but still I should at least be able to taste the burger). Only ate half the burger and maybe 5 of the fries. I will not evaluate the quality if the food. There is no way I am stuffing anything of that grease, fat, cholesterol, trans fat, or fryer grease down my gullet. If you enjoy the food, you are a braver human than I. Maybe at age 105 I will regret life decisions such as this. That said, the three brave family members seemed to enoy their chicken nuggies and burgers. Food was hot, no hair was included in the secret sauces, and the counter help was friendly and focused. All participants came away satisified. Bsthroom was clean (in my mind, always a symbolic indicator of overall kitchen and resturaunt cleanliness ) and dining area was reasonably tidy. Update..the owner contacted me after seeing the review I had left and he was very professional. I went back tonight and my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed EVERYTHING! Both of our burgers were exactly what we wanted..cooked how we wanted and the toppings were great! The cookies and cream milkshake was amazing and the cheese fries were exactly how I love them!! The staff were all attentive and the boy her rung us up at the cash register was awesome..I wish I had his name ..he's tall and had a hat and glasses on. The other staff came out and checked on us and others in the building. Everything was on point tonight! This is the Jake's Wayback Burger that we love to frequent!! I had a large order and it was ready just a few minutes passed the time I asked, no big deal, the employees were transparent and communicated to me how long I would need to wait. I placed an online order for the West Chester location for curbside pick up. I did not receive a confirmation. I also tried to call, but their voicemail was full and I could not get in touch with anyone. Once there, I waited in my car for a few minutes, and when no one came out, I went in to check. The young man behind the counter (he did have a mask on) said that they did not have an order under my name. I said let me check to see if I have a confirmation. He said they don't send confirmations, was I sure that I ordered from the correct location? I said this is the West Chester location, correct? This is the one I always order from. His response was "Don't get smart with me. You are going to have to go outside, call me on the phone and place your order." I said I tried to call, but no one answered the phone. He assured me he would answer, which he did and I placed my order and gave my credit card information. I then went back outside to my car and waited. He came out a few minutes later, waved at me, put my bag on a table, told me to have a nice day and went back inside. Once home, I realized I did not get any napkins, utensils or even a receipt. The part that bothers me most was when he told me not to get smart with him. I have gone over the conversation many times in my head and do not recall saying anything that could be considered "smart." I am a pacifist and generally quiet by nature. I would also never get "smart" with someone preparing my food. Something must have been misconstrued. Was one of my favorite places. It is no longer. Sorry, guys. When it comes to eating out, I have an exceptionally high tolerance. I can abide bad food and less-than-rigorous standards of hygiene. I can handle poor service, lousy decor and terrible music on the PA. Hell, I can even abide children screaming like little ham-fisted hellions. But I hate going out to eat and paying for a meal that I could have easily made at home. That's one of the biggest issues with being a vegetarian and ordering a burger. There's a high likelihood that you're going to get screwed and you would have been better off grabbing a pack of Gardenburgers at the store and cooking them yourself. And that's pretty much what happened to me at Jake's Wayback. An anemic Gardenburger slapped on a mushy bun with a slice of mealy tomato, some fairly decent lettuce and chopped onions. I don't understand the logic behind putting chopping onions on a burger. The circular shape of the burger insists on a ring of onion. And speaking of onion rings - my favorite fried treat did not fare well at Jake's. Imagine slimy, mushy onions encased in a sweet batter reminiscent of donuts. Ever had a fried onion flavored donut? It's not good and no amount of ranch, ketchup, barbecue sauce or honey mustard can save it. The fries aren't anything special either -- frozen, bland and generic. One tiny saving grace could be the fact that they use two kinds of real cheese on their cheese friends. But dudes, I live in the Philly suburbs. I'm a Whiz kinda gal when it comes to my cheese fries. I want really crispy fries under a blanket of molten, yellow barely-food product. I can understand the futility of a vegetarian eating at a burger joint but the toppings are lackluster, the sides are mediocre if not downright bad and the entire experience had me thinking I would have been better off had I gone to Burger King. This is for the West Chester location, the Exton location seems to be much better. The special on the day of my visit was a Turkey burger with stuffing and cranberry sauce. OK, I will try it - make it a combo. What?!? $10.47 for a turkey burger, onion rings and a soda? OK, I am willing to go with it if it is really good...unfortunately, this was not. The burger was missing the stuffing, the cranberry sauce was missing the signature tanginess, Turkey juicy but tasteless and the onion rings were oily. I am a fan of Jake's Wayback credit the Exton wayback. This place at West Chester Sucks. Poorly trained staff. They keep saying "wah?" "Meh" "Duh" upon every thing you say. And serve your food on the table in such a way the way that you would not throw plate at your dog. Half of the staffs sit outside making merry, while there is a queue at the counter. Well, where do I start? Ordered food online, but the order never came through because a storm in the area knocked out their fax machine and it had to be reset. Understandable... There were four teenagers there working the grill, counter, register, and milkshakes. They finally get the order out of the fax machine, enter it manually, and I wind up waiting for 40 minutes for two classic burgers, two milk shakes, and an order of onion rings. Ridiculous. For a lunchtime order we waited over 20 minutes and the staff couldn't find our orders. They told us they were too busy to find it. $40.
