Flew from Long Beach to Camarillo on a Saturday specifically to visit Waypoint Cafe. Entered from the airport ramp side. Lots of people on the outdoor patio enjoying what looked like great food. Got to the hostess stand and found 80-100 people in line who had arrived by car. No joy. Though it's an *airport* restaurant, it's every man for himself. Bummer, had hoped to have lunch. We've been here several times before. We always make sure to stop by when we are in town. We arrived and there was a line. They had some sandwich boards outside with the menus printed on them but I thought it was just for people who were waiting to get an idea of the menu. We got up to the host stand and were told we needed to order there and would then be given a table. Back out to look at the menu. We ordered and were seated outside. It was a beautiful day. Someone brought out our drinks and milkshake. After a short wait our meals were delivered. I asked for Ranch dressing and was told they were out. My husband had ordered a smokehouse burger without lettuce and it came out with lettuce and no sauce. My beef dip was as ordered. They brought out the sauce for my husband and he ended up enjoying his burger. My sandwich was okay and my fries weren't very hot. A little disappointed with this visit. read more

Came here Saturday brunch time for the first time and what a fun cafe! I was warned that the line is always a bit long but they did a great job in seating us and taking the order ahead of time so you don't have to wait too long for your food. Filled him up. The fries were average. My half tuna salad sandwich with salad was also delicious and filling. Nephew had the tuna salad on a bed of lettuce and ate every bite. Niece had the barbecue chicken salad, also good and filling. So this is a popular spot for pilots to take a break and enjoy a meal! I was super surprised to see that there was also a lot of people driving in as well! The line was a little imposing, but the staff did a great job keeping people comfortable and safe. To be honest, my expectations weren't that high as usually "tourist" spots often are rated more on hype than their food. Spoiler alert, their food was sooo good! I love me some burgers, but I opted for a spicy crispy sandwich. My brother got the serrano burger with pepperjack cheese - and we waited patiently for our food. When it came, a quick few photos (haha) and wow. They hand out menu's while you're in line, as you order your food here right away and then get seated. They serve breakfast and lunch all day. The menu is plentiful. The food came out quick and all the plates around us looked delicious. The ambiance is unique and the outdoor sitting nice. Pup friendly as all of Ventura County is. My food was good and my milkshake was really good!! A bit pricey, but their not shy with the portions and the food was good. We had been eating here for years, and it was always fantastic. We just went again for the first time since the pandemic (5 years ago). In the past, we'd tell them our party size, wait if necessary, then be seated at a table and be given a menu. Then we'd order, be served by our waitress, eat, leave a tip, and pay the bill. We were a bit perplexed at their current routine. At the register, all in the party put in their orders (you have to look at the menus ahead of time), and, before you're seated, pay the bill AND leave the tip. As for the tip, you're given 4 choices: 18.8%, 20%, 22% (I think), and no tip. We usually tip 20% (we round up) unless the service is exceptional, then we leave more (we prefer leaving cash tips). We received our meal, which all in our party found delicious (and you don't walk away from this place hungry), but we had no consistent wait staff. Tipping before we're served seems gratuitous and arbitrary. I'd give 5 stars, but not under their new system. read more

We stumbled on this cafe while we were shopping at the outlets. It's tucked away and you wouldn't know how cute it is from looking at the outside. Once you're inside, it's chic and cozy with a great view of the cool planes on the airfield. The food was delicious. We ordered the veggie omelette with the fresh-baked biscuit and homemade salsa, and it was delicious and filling for two people! We also ordered the chicken and waffles but could barely eat it because we were so full after the omelette, but the few bites we had were so good. The waffle was perfectly crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. The syrup is honey-based so that was surprising and wonderful. The fried chicken was flavorful. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly (shout out to Marcello and the sweet guy who has small dogs like me). The reason why I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 are because: 1) The host ignored me for a good 5 minutes because he wouldn't stop talking to the customer before me. He really should've at least acknowledged me and handed me menus since you have to order and pay before you are seated. 2) For this kind of establishment, I want to be seated and have my order taken. 3) My latte was pretty bland and awful. It tasted like old coffee with some foam milk poured on top. I had to add honey to make it taste decent. If you're a brunch spot, you have to make great lattes! First off, the way you peruse the menu while waiting in line then place your order and pay with the host before you even get seated is a stroke of genius. Some folks have an issue with that because it might take away their coffee time. Go to Denny's. Waypoint is all about getting your grub on. Get the Cinnamon Roll French Toast. Sure, it'll probably give you a heart condition and go straight to your hips, but it's great and serves as a great accompaniment to everything on their menu. The tri-tip sandwich, which is only offered on certain days, is among the top three I have eaten up here in the Santa Maria area. I am a tri-tip expert. Everything else looked pretty good. Pay at counter( including a tip?) , various people bringing you food and drinks, food did come out quickly, but they couldn't wait to take away our plates. Food was mediocre. I really do like Waypoint Cafe. Its just nice sitting outside for lunch on a sunny day watching all the planes on the runway take-off and or land. I tend to go here for friend lunch dates and its great. The first time I went here I had a burger and I wasn't really expecting much from it, but boy was it pretty good. The buns kind of remind of Hawaiian bread and the patties themselves are always on the juicier side. Also the shakes here are huge and can usually satisfy multiple people (granted you're willing to share it). One tip I can give new customers is to arrive early or come with extra time because the line to get in can get rather large sometimes. read more

I like this place very much. I'm not understanding the paying and tipping up front. Especially the tipping. Food was very good but I did get the feeling that the second I started eating, some of the staff was in a hurry for me to leave. It's a strange vibe there. Has a Twilight Zone feeling. This place is definitely one of the most popular cafes in all of Camarillo. The cafe oversees the small airstrip in Camarillo and it definitely adds to the ambiance. It is usually pretty packed but the servers do seat you fairly quickly. They have a pretty decent sized menu and it includes both breakfast and lunch/dinner sections. Even though their breakfast did look good, I decided to get their spicy chicken sandwich and it was good. Definitely not a Howlin rays but very good for a cafe chicken sandwich. We always bring our guests from out of town here; as the vibe is relaxed, the food is great and there are fabulous views of aircraft. Everyone always love it. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating as well. Everything from omelettes to burgers and salads are consistently delicious with generous portions. What a lovely little place we found tucked away at the airport. We were skeptical at first as we did not know the area well, but decided to give it a chance and so thankful we did. From first walking inside and greeted with excellent customer service to being handed our food, the service was perfect! Now the foods, we opted for breakfast as it was still a bit early and it met our very expectation! The food was delicious and healthy portions given. I have to say the banana walnut pancakes were probably some of the best pancakes I had ever had. So thankful we went out of our comfort zone and opted to try something new. Pretty vast menu for having to order as soon as you walk up to the cashier after waiting in line for over 30 minutes and a long line of people still behind you wanting you to hurry up. Would have been helpful to have menus well in advance. My bill came to $34.56. He took my $35 and closed the register. I asked for my change and he scoffed and said we don't carry coins. We don't give change.... As busy as this place is if they keep even 1/4 of peoples change, that's pretty significant revenue probably not being reported to the IRS.... Stood with my friend as she ordered her food and paid on credit card. Tipping options were immediately available... Since when do we tip in advance on $35 lunches? What if the wait was long, what if the sandwich was bad, what if the sandwich was made Incorrectly, what if the service sucked.... Tipping in advance for what I considered to be a high dollar lunch, ($35 per person) is a little ridiculous. Especially after I stood in line for 30 minutes, was rushed to place my order while standing at a counter and not given my change. I did end up, leaving a cash tip on the table because my server was excellent. Now onto the food, the portion is quite small for the cost. I got the tri-tip sandwich. The french fries were not hot. The food came out extremely quick. It crossed my mind that the food, that is a popular sandwich on Wednesdays, was made in advance, and as soon as I sat down within a couple minutes, it was brought to me, so as busy as this place was made me feel, it was not prepared to order. So my overall review is, it's expensive, the portion was not befitting to the price, super long line, rushed to order standing up, not given my change, and food was not stellar.
