This is a no frill restaurant that provides excellent food options and quality food. Some updates to the place don't go unnoticed but the food keeps me coming back. Their sweet fire wings are to die for! Wings are large and crispy and there is so much sauce! Service was prompt- had to ask for refills or extra napkins but quick. Their steak sandwich is definitely a go to. Tip is to add cheese and grilled onions to it- delicious! I don't live in the area but when I'm close by, wayside is also on my list of places to stop. Love the deck and slushies and crushes in the summer. My son swears the buffalo chicken sandwich with a side mozzarella sticks is his favorite meal from any restaurant. Servers are great and attentive, even when it's insanely busy. My only wish is that the menu was updated occasionally and they never have the steak for the Pittsburgher salad, but the specials usually have something good to offer. Still, it's a family favorite and we visit often. read more

Took my mother here for lunch. Nice place to take her. Fish wrap was awesome. The menu has lots of great things to choose from appetizers are a sweet selection too. I'm coming back to try The tenderloin sandwich and the boom boom shrimp for sure. The Bartender/waiter who asked to stay anonymous was very nice. I was told he's been there forever and everyone knows him so, obviously he's the best. This place is a must for a quiet afternoon weekday lunch. I'm curious about the weekends. Our server/bartender was awesome. I didn't get her name but she was very upbeat and friendly. The tenderloin sandwich and fries were delicious and the everlasting orange crushes were a great beverage to have sitting on the patio watching Last Call Beautiful band who are a very good band. A conveniently located local bar with great outside seating. I never did go inside, maybe next time. I had a nice drink while looking over the menu. Was rather annoyed with the waitress/bartender as I truly felt like I was being rushed, but anyway I chose the Carolina pulled pork dinner, which came with 2 sides. I chose slaw and fries ( Mayo on the side for these) the food was pretty much as I had hoped, the portion size was generous, allowing me to have some leftovers to bring home. The locals really seemed to enjoy themselves but it didn't offer me an experience that makes me want to return. I do however think it's got a great atmosphere and very popular food selections. read more

Discovered this place during the Shamokin Ice Breaker event! Read a few reviews and once we read a few whining liberal reviews we knew we had to try it. Let's just say the staff did not disappoint! The food was excellent!!! Service was outstanding especially given the very busy night! Plus we were able to support an awesome cause of the FFO. Freedom Fighters Outdoors!! Great group of people. My husband and I have been searching for an eatery that pleases our taste for good food. Wayside is an adequate place to eat, and we will go back to try other choices. Tuesday is the wing night where you get an extra two wings for the price of 10. Well, I enjoy wings, and these were meaty, but the bbq sauce was mediocre. It tasted like canned spaghetti sauce mixed with bland bbq sauce. My husband got the dry bay wings which were just that...dry. The atmosphere is friendly and service was pretty attentive. I was happy they had the wine I liked. We are new to the area and have had to adjust our expectations of local restaurants. So far the Wayside is a better place than most we have tried. read more

We stay here whenever we visit Shamokin where my boyfriend is from. Just an Fyi room 11 is a big room with two beds. Its great to have the restaurant and outside bar right there. Not to mention the rates are very good. read more

Text limit prevented me from posting the original, detailed experience we had at Wayside Inn so I will try to sum it up. We seated ourselves and after 10 minutes of waiting for a waitress, one decided to finally show up. We ordered just 5 waters and a mozzarella stick appetizer & a cup of French onion soup which arrived shortly after. However, we waited over an HOUR for our food (no exaggeration). Nobody ever came out and offered us refills, or a status on our order. Just when I tried to flag down a waitress to tell her we were done waiting and wanted our bill, our food came. By the time our food came out, it was burnt, dry and warm. We obviously weren't waiting the hour+ for the food to get done cooking considering it wasn't even hot when we got it. The table next to us was also waiting the whole time JUST for their appetizers (and they were seated/ordered before us). They finally had enough and asked for a manager. Well the lady that came out was dressed the exact same as a waitress and must've personally knew them because she was calling them by their first names. She profusely apologized and gave them free drink tokens. However, the "manager" we got, used the excuse "were not a fast food joint" and literally put his hand up and told me to be quiet so he could talk, when I told him about the quality of our food. He NEVER apologized, nor did he even try to act like he was concerned. He used the excuse that they had patio entertainment and they were busy (as if it's the guests faults that Wayside Inn holds entertainment their kitchen/staff can't handle). We will never step foot into this disgusting, unprofessional joke of a business again. read more

Went there for a reunion dinner and was surprised. Drinks were inexpensive and the waitresses were on top of things. Ordered a tenderloin sandwich on a recommendation and wasn't dissapointed. It was tender and delicious. Everyone else seemed pleased with there orders. Definitely would go back! read more
