After a pleasant visit with Diana, the salesperson, my fiancee and I found a wedding ring with a distinctive design that would work for both of us. Diana wrote an estimate on a card, but the price was higher than what she had first mentioned. When we asked, she said she had misspoken. The total pushed a little past our budget, but after some thought we decided to go for it. I called a few days later to place the order and got Mel, the owner. He asked if we had received their email correcting the price. We hadn't. Well, it seemed that they hadn't taken into account the increase in the price of gold (!) and therefore the real price was twice what we had been quoted in writing (and on their own website). But because he was such a nice guy, he would give us 25% off. I asked about the weight of the rings, and pointed out that even with gold at $50 a gram, the cost of the gold was only about a quarter of the new price. Not to mention that they would already have bought the gold they needed at a lower price. Oh no, he said, they only buy the gold as needed. What kind of jeweler doesn't pay attention to the price of gold? Or doesn't know the weight of a ring? Or claims to buy the gold he needs for each ring only after it's ordered? Or lies about having sent an email? Or reneges on a written estimate? Avoid these people. read more

Terrible experience. The salesmen at "Wedding Ring Originals" and "weddingrings.com" are horribly aggressive and pushy, and they all contradict each other. We thought we were doing right by finally talking to the owner at "Wedding Ring Originals" who convinced us to buy a very expensive ring in a much bigger size and width than we wanted. But he yapped and yapped about how what we really wanted wouldn't fit for all these reasons that us laypeople just couldn't understand, and we needed to trust the professionals. A few weeks later, we received the ring. It's got tiny cracks in it. We brought it to an independent jeweler who said it was absolutely defective, and that time and water and exposure to the elements would worsen and widen the cracks. The workmanship was so shoddy, which is unacceptable given their outrageous prices. The only reason I entered the store is because my parents purchased their rings from these gentlemen a long time ago, and I thought it would be meaningful to buy ours at the same place. Terrible place. I had a hugely disappointing experience at "Wedding Ring Originals" (followed by a great experience at Frank Pollak, who I highly recommend). I ordered a nice floral design wedding band. The sample was really well done and didn't have any seams or breaks in the pattern. When I received mine, it had a big awkward seam. My husband said it looks like something I could have bought on St. Marks Place for $20. To make matters worse, it was the wrong size. The salesperson admitted that it was made too small, until Mel (the owner of "Wedding Ring Originals") overruled her and said actually it was my fault because I didn't specify that I wanted a "center" size. What does that even mean? They measured my finger and knew the size to order for me. Overpriced, subpar. read more

I recently helped my good friend's boyfriend design her engagement ring (a complete surprise for my friend). We were lucky enough to meet Mel at Wedding Ring Originals and have him escort us through what could have been a nerve-wracking, anxiety-provoking, uninteresting experience. I have to say, as the owner of a 5-carat diamond engagement ring and several lovely diamond eternity bands (one from Tiffany), the ring that Mel designed for my friend is the most gorgeous ring I have ever seen.
