I was hesitant to try the nc pulled pork sandwich bc of the pix others have posted. One related it to canned tuna and I despise that mess. That being said, I bought one anyway. You can see the other pictures look just like mine. But omg the flavor of this sandwich is It is a bit dry, but I'm not a fan of coleslaw so I'm assuming that helps. I'll still crush this sandwich. There are little flecks of red pepper, I like my food spicy, and while this isn't exactly spicy, it does have a slight kick which I appreciate. I wasn't given hot sauce, my genius self forgot to ask. Had a horrible experience today. As I pulled up to get lunch a guy pulled up on the 27th st side in a large moving truck and hadn't even stopped the truck nor gotten out and a lady came out screaming and yelling. The guy kept apologizing and said he was going to move the truck and she told him he wasn't moving fast enough. I then told her to calm down so I could ask the guy to move and she told me she didn't need to calm down cause he wasn't moving fast enough. It's not like the guy even put the truck in park nor stopped it and gotten out. The guy seemed nice enough if you just asked he would have moved it, like he did. The only reason I walked over was because I though he ran over a small child with how frantically and hysterically she was screaming and waving her hands and jumping up and down. Yes the guy was blocking the side entrance but there wasn't a car or patron trying to enter the establishment. Her actions of screaming and yelling were not called for. I'm not sure if it was a race thing or the lady was having a bad day but I couldn't eat there after seeing how she treats other humans and I will not be going back ever again. We had the "half smoked" dog with "everything", French fries and Onion rings. The onion ring were as good as it gets; large, crisp and hot. The large order of fries were quite large. With large potato wedges. - enough to share among 4. Now to the main course: large grilled hot dog, split in two with assorted toppings. It is a little sloppy, so don't think you can drive and eat - it is going to be a mess! What a dog! I would have ordered a second but it was a large meal. Just stopped off to get breakfast. I got a simple bacon and egg sandwich. Its pretty darn good. The egg was fried perfectly, the bacon was thick, not that thinly sliced precooked bacon most places slap on everything. The egg was not nuked. I just had a sip of my coffee and it on the money. A little line built up after I ordered, but they were rockin and rolling with the orders and everyone in and out. Well, not IN so to say as the is a window ordering type of restaurant like Checkers. Only weird thing is a bunch of what look like day labors that seem to hang out in front of the window. They should really have them step away so paying customers can do their ordering. I took the photo of this place a few years ago, but this place never changes. The cheeseburger sub is fantastic. I used to work a few blocks from here and ate here weekly. If, like me, you like diners, dives, dumps, greasy spoons and the like, you need to go. Eating there just makes you feel cool somehow. Update: Went here for a light --and I do mean light-- lunch after a trip to the DMV on Four Mile Run to renew my ID (no stars). Had a light appetite but a need for a solid, comforting grilled cheese. Just something to sit on my empty, harrassed stomach. $2.38 with tax, and out came a perfectly grilled in butter, golden brown white bread (all the palette colors of a giraffe) with generous --but perfectly proportional to the bread-- molten-but-firming-up American cheese. With two packets of no-brand ketchup, this was actually a memorable meal. Mmmmm! I'd always passed by Weenie Beenie but never had the opportunity to try it as they close pretty early! I got my chance tonight as I was in the area. The guy in there was friendly and stated that they've been around since 1954. There seemed to be a lot of locals coming in to get some orders to go. There is some limited tables outside to eat your food as well. They have burgers, fries, hot dogs, as well as breakfast items (in which I've heard was pretty popular). I tried their half-smoke chili dog (you can get everything on it, which is mustard, onions, and relish; I opted for just the chili and raw onions). The dog itself isn't too big, but I thought it was a cute size; it tasted great! I liked the savory chili on top and the raw onions complemented it well. It was slightly salty and the dog was cooked perfectly ;D I also got a side of onion rings that were forgettable. I would definitely come back here if I get a half-smoke chili dog craving! A Walk Up Window in tha ghetto. Pure and simple. They have the best Half Smokes in the area. Yes, Better than the Overpriced Ben's Chili Bowl. Half Smokes are a local food that one must try while in the DC area. Most places no longer flat top grill them split in half, but this place does. I think Half Smokes taste better when they are grilled split in half. It makes them crunchier and renders more of the fat off. Some say the name Half Smoke is because it is made of half pork and half beef. But I say it's because, authentically, they are grilled split in "half." Order you a $3.09 "Chili Smoke with Mustard & Onions & extra Chili" - You can't go wrong. Their Onion Rings are good too, also the steak&cheese isn't bad either. I don't however, enjoy their prepackaged & breaded wedge cut fries. This is simply what we need more of in life: An Inexpensive Walk-Up Food Stand. Enjoy your dashboard dinning. The only bad thing about this place is that they are only open from 6am to 6pm. No dinner... After a failed attempt a few days ago to visit WB late at night, we rolled over during lunch hours to make sure we'd catch this local hole-in-the-wall during operating hours. For a place that seems clearly to me to serve late-night drunk food, WB has strange opening hours of 6am-6pm. They are also closed on Sunday (which isn't surprising, considering the Ten Commandments that are prominently displayed in English and Spanish on the front of the building). We shared a half-smoke with egg and all the toppings, and the NC BBQ sandwich with cole slaw. Now, I've never had an NC BBQ, and was surprised to find that the pork had the consistency of canned tuna. Perhaps because of the consistency, I couldn't help feeling that it also tasted of tuna. The cole slaw wasn't as tangy as I had feared, but was very finely ground, to the same consistency of the tuna-like pork. This wouldn't have been a huge problem, except for the fact that the bun also had a similar consistency. The sandwich essentially disintegrated upon my touch, and I felt like I was eating a burger that had been passed through a blender. I wasn't a fan. The half-smoke fared much better. The sausage was nice and smoky and had plenty of flavor. The egg was cooked all the way through, and I wouldn't have minded it to be a bit runnier. A lot of people seem to be comparing the half-smoke to Ben's, and I actually liked the home-cooked flavor of the WB half-smoke to Ben's. As much as I liked the half-smoke, WB would probably be better for satisfying late-night greasy-grub craving. Considering the early hours, I suspect I won't find myself in this somewhat out-of-the-way part of town for a mid-day snack. read more

It's a hole-in-the-wall, but a damn good one it is! No shoes, no shirt, no problem here--considering there is no indoor seating. In fact, you order outside as well. I picked up a Bologna & Egg Sandwich for breakfast and it was great! Not much to say about the customer service since it only takes all of 30 seconds to order pay and move to the side for the next customer to approach the window. I did get some smiles out of the staff, so let's say 5 stars for that :) The sandwich was good, but the Bologna was cut very thin so it wasn't a true fried bologna sandwich. The service I received was timely and the food Was fresh and tasty. I ordered the jumbo royal cheeseburger for myself and a chili cheese beef hotdog for my wife, both of which were delicious. I also ordered onion rings which were to my surprise Panko breaded and potato wedges that were good And would've be great with some chili and cheese. They knew this was a good lunch spot. What enticed me over the edge was a recent newspaper article saying Weenie Beanie had some of D.C.'s best hot dogs and half smokes. They were right. The half smoke with chili and onions was pure comfort food. The French fries were served piping hot, crispy and flavorful good. This lunch spot features any number of sandwiches, hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken - all fast-food and all for well under $10. There are two picnic tables around to the side if you want to sit and eat there. Otherwise I expect you should plan to eat in your car or take it to the nearby park. I like how they're open early, but I hate how they close early, too, but I find myself coming here when I just need to fill that oily, junky food craving. Parking: Plenty. It doesn't look very clean inside, and I've caught the cooks dip food in the batter without gloves. I kindof ignored it since it went into the fryer, but that's still highly unsanitary. Food: If we just ignore the health code, the food is delicious. Really hits the spot, especially if you want fried food. I've actually never had their half smokes, but I've had their burgers, and I always get their barbecue pork. Both are juicy and fills you right up. I've never eaten anything from here and not felt satisfied afterwards. But I do wish they had actual fries instead of giant potato wedges, which needs more seasoning. I'd read good things about the chili half-smoke so I opted for that over one of the more time appropriate breakfast sandwiches. I got mine with just chili and onions, skipping the mustard and relish which would complete an "everything" order; I also got a medium coffee. Total came out to $5 and change - they do accept credit cards. It seemed a little small, and I would have liked more chili. However, it was very tasty and I gobbled it down fairly quickly. I'm new to the area and have eaten at this place four times (so far) and I really like the food here. I consider it "comfort food" without a dining room. I'm guessing that the name "Weenie Beenie" is sort of another way of saying "Hot Dogs and Beans." These people have been around for many years (from what I'm told) and for good reason. They make really delicious food. My girlfriend has frequented WB so often they acknowledge her as a regular. They are a religious bunch as evidenced by the 10 commandments on their facade and the fact that they're closed on Sundays. They also find it in their hearts to feed the day laborers who congregate in the lot next door. That shows that they care for their fellow humans - nice to see. I love their BLT sammich. It's always fresh and quite tasty. Another thing we love are their "Half Smokes" - I just wish they offered Brats. They told me that they used to sell them...bummer. Though their vast menu specializes in breakfast and lunch, this comfort food is good anytime. Great food and service, close to the Shirlington dog park but demerits for the fact that they close at 6pm and that they don't sell brats. This little shack sports the ten commandments in both Spanish and English- half smokes that probably are about as good as Bens, home fries that are thick cut and tasty, and a down-home feel that you just can't find in Shirlington. GOOD FOR: Pre-prom, late night, and dinner with the in-laws. DON'T: Come expecting a sit-down meal straight out of top chef. I love this place. I have been coming here since I was a kid in the 1960's when Four Mile Run still flooded all the time and the neighborhood wasn't as yuppified as it is today. The building looks like it being held together by rust, they have the ten commandments posted, the crowd gathered at the ordering window is a mixture of suits, punks, blue collar and immigrants. This place has character and characters hanging around. I go here for one of two things. Either the Half Smokes or the hamburgers. I love both. Both have a nice taste and I love the pop of the half smoke when I bite into it. I also like the smoky almost burnt taste of the burger that comes from being prepared on a grill not flash cooked in some machine like the chain places use. The Royal Burger will fill you up. Is this a fine dinning experience? No. Its a HOT DOG stand and should be enjoyed as such. read more

This humble little place was exactly what I needed today. Simple and good - nothing else. No lingering for a chef to arrange my food just so in a take-out container. No fussing. No endless search for a place to park. Just in and out and on my way. I'm glad I only ordered one hot dog as it turned out they use 1/4lb dogs and 2 would have been more than I was looking for. But my dog was great - nicely grilled and no char, soft bun, perfectly topped with ketchup, mustard, relish and onion. My onion rings where great too. I've driven by Weenie Beenie for years and have no clue why I've never stopped before today. This place reminds me of so many little spots I've found great eats growing up and in my travels. With other Yelpers touting the BBQ and spying several items on the menu that sound hearty and yummy - I know this is the first of many Beenie trips.
