Truly worth a visit!! Wells Brothers has expanded greatly since the new ownership. So may new products, bedding plants, and expanded lines of pet and chicken products. They've even added some home goods, toys for kids and so many seasonal items and gifts including memorial items for pets. They really support and promote local businesses by carrying local honey, mealworms, dog treats and lawn products. They offer ready-made compost tea and have a monthly free pet flea dip during the spring and summer. There is a wall with numerous samples of lawn care products and information on usage. amazing!! The owners are knowledgeable, especially about raising chickens and lawn care. the even offer a chicken class for residents who need the certification for backyard chickens. I've been buying rabbit food at Wells for the last 5 years. I've priced the pellets at all the stores in town that sell similar food and Wells has the best price, 25 lb bag is $11! They carry a variety of items, staff is friendly, only negative is they close early, 6pm, which makes it hard to get to after work and a lot of traffic. read more

I stopped by Wells Bros this week looking for a special sized bucket to use for a project at home. You can not beat the selection and customer service here. It's not a big store, but what they carry is top of the line and not what you'd find everywhere else. If you are a Dallas-area resident, think of Wells as a small version of Elliott's but for garden/animal care only. This reminds me of the great local-owned shops in my small hometown. UPDATE Mar 2021. Customers don't have to wear masks anymore. We have shopped here for years mainly to get wild bird food. They sell large (50lbs) sacks so one doesn't have to shop too often. Nice service pay inside then drive around back and stock guy loads into trunk for you. read more

So, my husband usually picks up our big dog's food, but since we were getting low, and I was off of work for the day, I decided to take this task. I walked in and was greeted by a young woman, the another lady had her back to the door. I was asked what I was looking for and I replied dog food and started digging for my phone to see the text of what I was to buy. Caitlyn turns around and says that we buy Excellence Chicken and Rice. I asked how she knew, and I was told it was her job to know these things. LOL! She checked our frequent buyer card and she was right! She rang me up, and then grabbed a big bag of food and loaded it for me. Folks, this is old time small town service in the middle of the big city. Thanks for taking care of Thomas and me. Wells Brothers is a tidy, organized, and friendly place to get your goat chow, horse gear, bulk pet food, or gardening supplies. We went there to check out chicken stuff; their prices were better than the next nearest feed store (Roach in Garland) but lacks the Old Time Feed Store vibe. I suspect I will still shop at both, depending on the mood. Exceptionally friendly and helpful staff. Added bonus: there's a gun store next door, so you can check out that new carry sidearm while your spouse picks out tomato plants. read more

I have 3 Flat Coated Retrievers, they only eat Exclusive Dog Food which cannot be bought just anywhere. I was out of the country last week and had a house sitter taking care of the dogs. Needless to say when I came home Saturday late afternoon I did a few choirs. At 5:40 I went to feed the dogs and to my surprise the food container was empty I called Wells Brothers and explained I just returned from out of town and that it would take me at least 25 minutes to get there. The gentleman on the phone said no problem that he would be there. I raced to the store, made it there straight up 6:00pm, walked in and he had my order ready to go. Wells Bros. has been my primary go-to for vegetable gardening needs, whether it's plants or seeds. over the past several months, the quality of the plants and service from employees has severely gone down. every time I go, the plants are dry and wilting/dying and when I let them know the plants need to be watered, they reply "well, we water every day" very rudely. today I asked about the rhubarb plants they had up front. I asked the older man if he had grown them before and what kind of needs they had. he told me they were like potatoes. I said "no, they aren't at all. you harvest the stalks, not the roots" and he said "well, I mean you plant them like potatoes." which also makes no sense and is not true. rhubarb has no similarities to potatoes. it's ridiculous answers like this that turn me away from the VERY unknowledgeable and rude staff. another visit a few months ago, I asked about sweet potato slips. they told me they didn't have them and it was too late to plant. that's odd because the planting calendar they have AT THEIR STORE said right then was the time to plant. I ended up purchasing sprouting sweet potatoes at the store and planted them. a few months later I dug up 20lbs! another complaint: in September I asked them about onion sets. they said they wouldn't have them till October. That doesn't make sense either because, once again, their store planting guide said it was the time to plant onions for winter harvesting. October is too late to plant unless you overwinter them, which I don't like to do. overall I'm VERY disappointed and will not be going back if I can help it. I will be ordering plants and seeds online from more reputable places. I would NOT ever recommend this store. read more

I get soybean meal and other organics for my yard here. Most places in the area don't carry SBM so I'm happy to be able to get it here. Their prices on propane are really good too. I just wish the were open Sundays. read more
