This typical but authentic French brasserie is located on Place de Clichy, and it looks like it's been there forever, at least I know of it's existence last 10 years. It's close to movie theaters so a lot of people drop by after or before the movie or if you stroll around Paris. Or just go there on intention.
The interior is all characteristic, nice cozy red booths, tables at the window that I personally like, little patio outside open during spring and summer to enjoy the delicious lunch or dinner or just a glass of something.
I'll begin with the seafood. All is super fresh. And they have also takeaway service if you want to buy oysters and enjoy them at home. There is huge variety of oysters, about 10 different kind. They all have difference in the taste and varieties for the size. You can order #3 which would be medium size or #1 which are huge. My personal favorites would be La Special tres grosse Gillardeau (they are really enormous with delicate taste).
If you don't want to bother choosing what exactly you want to eat among Seafood, you can order one of the Seafood Plate they have, there are different options to choose from - smaller sizes for one or two and bigger - for the whole big company or for two if that will be all your dinner meal. Or just go a la carte - there are mussels, bulots (sea snails - so yummy!!!), tourteau (very delicate crab) and a lot more.
Of course as in any typical brasserie there are options to get a menu composed to your choice. Which wouldn't be 180-200 € like in some places, but decent - 24.50-34.80 €.
But having so much delicacy a la cart I'd prefer to choose all personally. As appetizers if you skipped Seafood like oysters or bulots, try salmon tartar or tartar de boeuf, or carpaccio de boeuf. And for the main... I feel dazzled. Magret de Canard (duck breast) is superb, tete de veau (veal head might sound distastefully, but that's not the right impression), burger Wepler with their fries is really something. Of course cheese selection, but with no cheese cart, just a cheese plate. And for 9 €, not for 30:). And dessert of course. Huge Macaron Citron is amazing, or profiteroles or daily special tart, or assortment of their ice-crème or "glace" as they call it. Pare it with a glass of desert wine.
As for the wine itself: the choice of wines by the standards of Michelin star restaurants is not very extensive, but more than decent for a brasserie. For this kind of format is presented maximum varietal and geographic diversity of French wine, for every budget with no large overpayment: from typical Muscadet for 14 € to Batard Montrachet Grand Cru for 280 €.
The service is typical for a popular brasserie in Paris. They might forget to bring you bread or water, but if you ask - you'll hear their usual: "j'arrive" and everything will be on your table soon. The waiters are friendly and nice.
I'd recommend you make a reservation in advance, cause in the evening time it might be pretty stuffed.
Enjoyable experience and definitely recommended. I come back there every time I'm in Paris. If you want simple and delicious food with no overpayment or circus around, it's definitely the place! read more
