I took a solo vacation a few weeks ago and happened upon this spot while wandering around Gaslamp and kept going back for the fun vibe and friendly staff. JP, Curtis, Manny, and Chris were absolute gems of humans and fantastic bartenders, but what stuck out most was how aware they were of the guests they served. Being alone each night, I felt super safe because I knew they had my back. Art was such an awesome karaoke host too and kept the energy up all night long. If only every day could be a full moon. Our team took over Werewolf on a Monday for an evening of libations and snacks. The atmosphere is dive bar-esque, with an elevate food and beverage menu. Inside TVs line the walls with music videos from the 90s and a large bar hosting a multitude of beer taps. We ordered a number of appetizers to share, some of the highlights included the nachos, tacos, and their famous sliders. Werewolf's menu is pretty extensive with other items such as poke, burgers, and burritos - you're guaranteed to find something for everyone! My favorite was the cauliflower tacos! Breaded cauliflower on a corn tortilla with scallion cream, red onion, cabbage, and pickled jalapeño. I also ordered a variety of cocktails throughout the night, including the traditional Redbull Vodka, and their signature Juicy K, gin, strawberry, hibiscus syrup, lemon, and champagne. Delicious, but the gin is strong with this one! Plus, the bar hosts complimentary popcorn for you to snack on throughout the night! It's between a 4 and a 5 but a 5 just because the bartender got all our orders right without even writing it down. That was impressive. We came in after a harbor cruise and we were hungry. When we walked in we were a little confused as to what to do but the bartender told us to sit anywhere and when we were ready to just go up to the bar and order. It was a little strange but ok. When all the party had arrived we went up and placed our order and waited at out table. We were a little nervous about getting our orders since we didn't see many wait staff and it looked like only the bartender was working. But sure enough we got everything in about 15 minutes. About the place, it's a quintessential dive bar with loud 90's hip hop music and bar food albeit very good bar food, some of the best I've had. There's old werewolf comics wallpapering the hall to the bathrooms. The tables were sticky but it didn't bother anyone really. We ordered the pork belly BBQ Nachos, grilled garlic ginger wings (one with sauce and one dry-get the sauce for an extra dollar. It's worth it.), triple threat burger, bourbon bacon burger, waterfront sliders, and wonton sliders. I had the triple threat burger. It was very juicy and messy, lots of napkins to soak up the mess. All worth it though. The patty itself could have used more seasoning but the pork belly was perfectly smoky and delicious and really elevated the burger. The Bourbon burger patty had more flavor, I thought. I had mine with a side of Brussels sprouts that were deep fried and doused with vinegar. They were crispy and sour which helped cut some of the fat. The nachos with all the fixings was also messy to eat but very good. The big pieces of pork belly was basically thick cut bacon with cheese, tomatoes, and sour cream. Not the healthiest. The wings were great with a nice grilled flavor, the sauce being the best. The sliders I was told was also very good. The bartender was awesome. I wish I got his name. We had so many alterations on some of the orders and he got them all right without writing it down. read more

Went for brunch after church and the wait list process was super easy on Yelp. It's nice because it alerts you of how long you'll have to wait and how many people are in front of you. I was able to tell the sever my name and we got a good table right in front of the DJ booth. So what do you do when you find a place so great that list fades away? You come back for breakfast, lunch, and dinner! Day one was lunch, trying to kill time before our Air BnB opened up. We came in, sat ourselves, and were soon greeted by Zack. He was the bartender but happened to walk by our table and took our orders immediately. This guy had way cool vibes, also he asked us our names and remembered them later! For lunch we had the chicken wings which were garlicky and gingery with a yummy sauce. Our main was the Pho King Amazing sandwich which was more of a riff on Banh Mi than Pho, but still delish. We needed breakfast the next day and apparently the Gaslamp district wakes up a few hours later than we do at home, so options were limited. So, we found ourselves back at the Werewolf. This time we had Bloody Mary's and biscuits and gravy. Now this shit was fire. The biscuits were golden with a bit of a crunch but flaky and buttery on the inside. The gravy? I'd bathe in it. Overall, fabulous vibes in this place. Bathroom is covered in comic book pages and Christmas lights - and are super clean! This is a must - stop anytime one visits San Diego. If you're visiting San Diego, Werewolf is a must. On this visit we were in town for the Dodgers vs. Padres final game. We took the Amtrak from L.A. to San Diego. As soon as we arrived, I started looking for a place to have brunch. Werewolf, with thousands of reviews, seemed to be a safe bet. Even with high marks, I'm careful not to set my expectations too high. When we arrived, the place was packed and several people ahead of us but we didn't have to wait long. We scored two seats at the bar. We scanned the menu and see that they had a Werewolf Bloody available. Yes, please! Spicy goodness poured into a skull glass. As for food, I ordered the Chilaquiles Roja & my hubby got the Breakfast Burrito. Wow! Both were delicious! As we were eating, we noticed a post about their Happy Hour from 3:00 - 7:00pm. Well, fast forward to after the game, we went back to Werewolf's Happy Hour for cocktails & snacks. Twice in one day! The service is great and staff very friendly. What a cool breakfast place!!!! First off, don't be discouraged if you're on the yelp app and there are no reservations. I almost opted out of going here this morning because I figured it was gonna be paaaaaacked. Thank you to the Werewolf breakfast Gods because we got here around 9am and got seated right away!!!! We were stoked because we actually got in AND we were starving! This place is def one of coolest looking places I've seen. The booth we sat in was covered with beer stickers and there was an entire section of the wall that looked it was made of bullets. The vibe is positive, the customer service is awesome, and after eating, I'm glad to say that our food was delicious. Attention for all you coffee drinkers! There is a "coffee bar" here meaning you order coffee and then go to this little coffee bar area (aka table with all kinds of coffee sides!) and can add diff types of creamers, syrups, chocolate sauce, almond milk (yesss!!!), and even whip cream to your coffeeeeeee!!!! Ok back to the food. When I checked out this menu, the Kim Chee bulgogi hash caught my eye! So I knew I had to get that and it did not disappoint! The meat was very soft and tender, the easy over eggs were just perfect, and the potatoes were just the right size. It was a little spicy which I love so yeah, I guess you could say i inhaled my breakfast. My son got the "Homer pancakes" which I'm sure kids just LOVE. It is sweet and def doesn't need any added syrup! Now that I'm writing this, im surprised my son wasn't crazier after that meal hahahah!!! Holy juicy burger Batman! I was staying downtown and stumbled across Werewolf in Gaslamp for dinner. Werewolf has a weird ambience and odd lighting, but in a comforting sort of way. I came in hungry and was overwhelmed by the menu because everything sounded fantastic. With some help from the staff, I went with the mushroom melt. The patty was perfectly cooked and juicy, the bun was buttery and fluffy, the cheese perfectly matched with the mushrooms and aioli. A truly mouthwatering burger, served with some crispy fries. Really amazing burger, I'd say best burger in downtown for sure. And that includes hodads. read more

The Bulgogi Burrito tasted amazing. Well balanced of meat, rice, veggies, and sauce. The puppies as well tasted good along with the dipping sauce it came with. Service is good. The interior of the restaurant is something I appreciated because it is like looking at memorabilia of vintage 90's movie props. And behind them is a family of 4 that are just eating a casual diner-esque meal. If you're not sure what you want with your night out, come here, it's bound to have something that you're into. Unless it's a quiet night. This is def not that. Food? Ate here 4 times on a San Diego weekend. Dishes ranged from B to A-, all good and better than average. Service? Like any popular place, depending how busy it gets, but ... it was clear staff made a real effort to keep things rolling and people happy. Karaoke? Why I went ... and why I'd go again. To be clear, there were 3 different KJs on the 4 nights I went. I'd rate the from C-not really friendly; B-OK, but a little into packing the rotation with regulars and/ or friends; and, A-ran a tight rotation, very welcoming and friendly. Apparently there is a business in San Diego that hires lots of KJs and farms them out to different venues using the Triceratops system. Luck of the draw on the KJs, but the music collection is good. This is a hoot and holler place. The crowd is going to sing along ... so save your sensitive ballads for another place. It gets packed and the crowd gets really excited and into it when someone sings well ... and there were a lot of good to better singers wailing their 'go tos.' But it's not mean or rude either. Like any good karaoke venue you get props for just having the guts to get up and sing and will get your ovation no matter how your singing turns out. There are a few things I didn't care for. There is no stage or really reserved space for the singer. You are standing in the entrance to the building and people are walking by to get in and out and when it gets crowded you are packed in like everybody else standing shoulder to shoulder. As far as I could tell there was no screen for the audience and the karaoke text was projected and not of a monitor. But, heck. You know the song anyway, right? I was drawn to Werewolf because of the 4.5 rating on Yelp and the high praise on the food. This is an American Pub with a cool vibe. Menu is available with the use of their QR code. You have to order at the bar, which a downside for me, because it's an inconvenience when sitting at a regular table with your party. On a slower night, like tonight, it wasn't too bad ordering at the bar, but I can imagine it being stressful on the weekend when it's pack. I ordered the Bourbon Burger, which was damn delicious. The fries that came on the side were very crispy, hot, and fresh. The bartender was very friendly and even walked to our table frequently to check on us.
